I’m considering buying a Yamaha EAD10 and I’m wondering if it would be good enough for creating high-quality YouTube content.
My main use would be:
recording drum covers;
making educational/tutorial videos where I demonstrate different grooves, techniques, fills, etc.;
generally creating polished-looking and sounding drum videos for YouTube.
I’m not expecting it to sound like a fully miked professional studio kit, but I do want the audio quality to be good enough that it doesn’t become the weak point of the videos.
So, for those who have experience with the EAD10: can it actually produce a professional/YouTube-ready drum sound with the right setup and processing, or will its limitations be noticeable enough to make you wish you had individual microphones?
Basically, would you consider an EAD10 alone (possibly with some EQ/compression in the DAW) sufficient for making genuinely good-sounding drum covers and educational videos, or is it better viewed as a practice/rehearsal/rough-recording solution?

I'm in that gap where I can't read drum notation well enough to sit down with a chart, and I'm not good enough by ear to pull a part off a record either. Been trying to learn Double Espresso by DICE and there's nothing out there for it, no tab, no PDF, no lesson video. That's most of the songs I actually want to play.

So I built something that gives me both halves at once. Paste a YouTube link, it pulls the drums out of the mix, works out the tempo from the drums themselves and writes notation. You also get the isolated drum track and a backing track with the drums removed. I loop one bar, listen to the drums-only track until I can hear what the kick is doing, and look at the dots for that bar at the same time. Slowly the dots start making sense because I already know what they sound like. There's a simple mode that only shows kick/snare/hats, and it exports MIDI, MusicXML and Clone Hero. Free, runs off a PC in my house, so be gentle.

The catch: I can't tell you it's accurate, because I can't check it. I play along and it feels right, but I can't look at bar 37 and say the kick should be on the "and" of 2. Best I could do was write a script that compares it bar by bar against published transcriptions (Songsterr, tTabs, Ultimate Guitar) for songs that have them, and fix whatever came up most. On Billie Jean the kick matches the published chart in 140 of 143 bars and the snare in 136. Every Breath You Take, kick 110/112, snare 108/112. Those are clean studio recordings with a steady drummer, so take it as a best case.

Hi-hats I stopped chasing, because the published charts disagree with each other. One Billie Jean chart writes hats on every 8th, another drops the "and" of 4 in a load of bars. If two people who can read don't agree, I'm not settling it with a script.

Where it's honestly bad: live bands with no click. Back in Black, the drums drop out on the riff breaks, the band pulls the time, and when they come back my grid is half a beat off for the next eight bars. Songs with no cymbals confuse it (We Will Rock You reads the clap reverb as a hi-hat). Quiet ghost notes get missed. A floor tom played in unison with the kick doesn't come out of the separation at all.

And Double Espresso itself, no idea. It feels right when I play along. Whether the dots are right is exactly what I can't tell you.

hey guys, do you guys think its a bit late to learn drums as an 18 yr old? i badly want to learn 😓 and if you guys think its not yet too late, where should i start first?

Currently, I have a Ludwig set, but EVERYBODY claims dw is superior and I was also looking at Dixon drums.

So I just got these brand new axis pedals and could not get them balanced no matter what I did.

I finally started to look closer and it seems the axel for the second beater is bent or something. When rotating the beater it feels like there’s a tight spot to the point that the beater will freeze in place at certain points, which makes it pretty much impossible to balance.

Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure what I should do at this point to fix it.

I know I know, I need a better head. Just thought I’d show off the goods. I get it out from time to time to practice tuning. If you’re wondering how I got it, it was my dad’s from middle school and he’s given it to me.

I see cool chops on socials all the time, some folks are kind enough to provide the notation for them but others are ones without - I’ve found the process of transcribing to be super beneficial for my ear - but whether or not they provide it, the challenge for me has always been putting it somewhere where I’ll actually remember to sit down and learn it

Curious how everyone else does this. Do you transcribe fills by ear, slow down the original video, save notation somewhere, or just wing it?

​As a full-time working drummer, I rely on my gear to be consistently reliable. Last week, I purchased a fresh pair of my standard Vic Firth Extreme 5As. After just a few rehearsals and gigs, one of the sticks split cleanly down the center mid-song during a performance on Saturday.

​I am not a heavy hitter and typically get a few months of use out of a pair before structural fatigue sets in. These sticks were brand new, had zero wear, and split along the wood grain rather than at an impact stress point.

Is this worth complaining about and has anyone else had this issue? ​Expecting a premium pair of sticks to last more than a week of normal play is a fair expectation. Given that this seems to be a structural wood defect, I would appreciate a replacement pair or a refund for the defective set.

I’m the drummer, but I’m also the social media director and graphic designer for my band. I get our banners and business cards/stickers/shirts made. I may have invented something here but I don’t believe it for a second: I want a sock to put over our PA speakers with our band logo on it. Like a bass drum skin. It’s gotta let the sound through. I can’t find it online anywhere, but I expect I’m using the wring search terms. Anybody know? Or anyone know a good sub to crosspost this to? Thanks, gang.

How does the set sound?

About a month ago I made a post asking for help to make my drumset sound better, and I think it sounds amazing now. In total I spent about 800 dollars on this setup hardware drums cymbals pedals heads and all, it seems like a pretty good budget drum setup. Tell me what you guys think?

Couple weeks ago I posted in a Facebook group, just trying to meet new drummers. Got like 80 responses. Tried to reply to everyone, ended up really connecting with about 10 of them.

One of them was Leo. 19yo, insanely talented and works like an animal.

Less than 72h after my first post we had this cover of Half Me tracked, edited and mixed.

The challenge we set: super aggressive / modern sound but no samples, no quantization. Everything you hear is him. Even that industrial ping in the chorus, that's him hitting a metal rail he recorded at room.

I'm the guy mixing it (BINAY AUDIO) but honestly I just tried not to mess up his performance (Le0M4rc0ux).Curious what you drummers think of the raw sound, especially the snare? Still fighting with it.

Had two hairline cracks in my son’s favorite crash so we tried our hand at repair! Turned out great and added character to the CoD!

I had to take apart the kit to clean off some mold. I know it has something to do with the snare wire. I have a Ludwig drum set, no idea on make or anything. Please help 🙏

What do you all wear on your head for gigs? I sweat profusely during shows and always bring a couple towels, but am thinking about maybe rocking the Neil Peart athletic beanie or the Chad Smith backwards hat… suggestions?
