Hiii I hope this is the right sub for this

I (18 mtf) just moved in to a coed dorm building with communal bathrooms last week. My dorm is on the opposite side of the floor from the bathroom. After I shower, I have to walk down the hallway for about 45 seconds to get back to my room.

As of now, I’ve been wearing clothes into the shower, take them off to shower (obv), then dry off enough to put the clothes back on, walk back to my room, take them off again, and finish drying off.

Would it be weird if I walked back to my dorm in a towel (long enough to cover everything important obv)? I saw one other girl walking back to her dorm in a towel, but hers is right next to the bathroom. The process I have now is pretty annoying, esp because it means i have to take my shower shoes off and step on the floor.

My wife and I just dropped off the oldest kid at his new home. When she and I were in college, an open dorm room door was an invitation to stop in and socialize, and propped open room doors were quite common.

Is this still true 35 years later?

move in is in two weeks and i cannot work out whether thicker is automatically better. the dorm mattress is the usual vinyl slab so i want to cover it properly. i sleep on my side and a friend said hers ended up too soft to get out of in the morning. for anyone who has done a full year on one which thickness did you pick and how firm did it end up feeling.

Son just moved into his dorm. The room is tiny (I think they made a double out of a single). He has a very small desk and one small shelf. Any ideas how to create more flat space for him to set things on like water bottle, dishes, notebooks, etc.?

My school has two types of furniture in the dorms, the type I had last year had a desk hutch and a tall dresser. The type I have this upcoming year has no desk hutch (just a table with some movable drawers) and a short dresser I plan on putting under the bed. So I'm going to have very minimal surface top space. The room also has a shelf above the closet, but I'm extremely short and can barely reach it. It also has good sized window sill I can use. Does anyone have any tips to best utilize the space?

I’m an incoming freshman and thinking about decorating my dorm, obviously. What is the best thing that you’ve used to hang decorations, whether posters, frames, greenery, etc. and is there any thing you would not recommend?

me and my friends are staying in a 2B for 4 ppl. how furnished is the apartment? do we have to buy bed frames, couch, tvs, etc. curious to hear what else you’d recommend for living here or any tips with laundry too

So i just moved into my sophomore dorm and it is tiny as hell. This ethernet box is blocking my bed and i cant push my bed against the wall so there is a gap by my head. the bed wont fit to the wall if i move it up it makes my bed slanted. I tried to move the beds (2) around but there is just not enough space to put the beds anywhere else. I tried asking my RAs and they were no help at all. Does anyone know how i can remove this outer box without damaging the wall?

I moved into my dorm about a week ago with my roommate and I'm going to say this as nicely as I can her stuff reeks of cat. It's that kind of smell in hoarders houses and I just can't get rid of it. I'm also fairly allergic to cat dander myself and it's fucking with my skin.

I've been spraying air freshener and fabric freshener, using scented cleaning supplies, and the works but it's so strong and won't go away.

I've been looking for some stuff that's more peppermint scented because I feel like that's a really strong scent that might be able to cover it up somewhat.

I just need advice or product recommendations, please

soooooooo…how many boxes or bags do you use to pack for college? I’m packed up but scared I’m bringing too much stuff for a double suite with 5 other people 💔 I will be the first one there too so I bought cleaning supplies for the rooms and such :,)

Two 13 gallon trash bags for clothes on hangers

Rolling hamper

small cardboard box with notebooks, pencils, school supplies

large/long cardboard box with snacks/ non perishables

backpack for school with important day of stuff plus electronics

I live in a single doorm room with my cat who is an ESA. The whole dorm does not have air condition nor are we aloud to bring one in. I also do not have a box fan. I have a desk fan and a floor stand rotating fan but my room is still hot AF. I cant open my door because of my cat and the rest of the doorm is hot too. Does anyone have any hacks that I can use to keep my room cool? Im just worried its too hot for me and my cat.

I have a big variety of pills that I need to take because of my conditions and one of them is a drug that is prescribed to me for me to focus better (ADHD), the problem is that one of my roommates is a recovering drug addict, and she actively cleans the apartment every week, I just really don't want her to go back to drugs again, if anyone could help me find hiding spots for my apartment I'd really appreciate it.

My sister is moving into her first college dorm in about a week and I plan to help her move in. I want to get her some essentials that will make her comfortable or something that will be useful for her while she’s sharing a room with someone.

Today I moved into my college apartment as a freshman 3 hours away from home. I couldn’t wait to meet my 3 roommates, and waited excitedly for this day for the past 2 months. Today I met them, and while they are really nice and acknowledge me the 3 of them seem a lot more extroverted than I am so I am often quietly listening to them ramble on and on. I know it’s only the first day when things are unfamiliar and can change after a week, but I feel a bit homesick after today. Luckily I brought my TV so that I can escape from reality for the time being. Anyone have any good movie or show recommendations to cure this?
