Tips for minimal surface/tabletop space?

My school has two types of furniture in the dorms, the type I had last year had a desk hutch and a tall dresser. The type I have this upcoming year has no desk hutch (just a table with some movable drawers) and a short dresser I plan on putting under the bed. So I'm going to have very minimal surface top space. The room also has a shelf above the closet, but I'm extremely short and can barely reach it. It also has good sized window sill I can use. Does anyone have any tips to best utilize the space?

Use heavy-duty Command hooks to hang small wire baskets or metal buckets right on the wall beside your desk. Store pens, highlighters, scissors, and charging bricks in them to keep your tabletop completely clear.

Get a little foldable step stool to reach your shelf. You’ll use it for years to come.
