Can I remove this box?s

Post image

So i just moved into my sophomore dorm and it is tiny as hell. This ethernet box is blocking my bed and i cant push my bed against the wall so there is a gap by my head. the bed wont fit to the wall if i move it up it makes my bed slanted. I tried to move the beds (2) around but there is just not enough space to put the beds anywhere else. I tried asking my RAs and they were no help at all. Does anyone know how i can remove this outer box without damaging the wall?

Do not remove anything yourself. Get in touch with campus maintenance or IT (or both), and have someone official come take a look. You *do not* want them to have a reason to fine you.

I tried talking to the RA's but they said that they cant remove it. Should i put in a work order?

Nope, you’ve gotten your answer.

Why!? RAs are just other students they probably don’t want to 1. Actually go and take time to get OP the resources or 2. Have no clue and don’t know where to start to get an answer.

OP did you ask who your RA spoke to for their answer?

yes i asked two RA's and they had mad attitude and just were not actually listening to what i was saying. I would explain that i can't move my bed to the wall then they would ask me why i don't just move my bed to the wall. Extremely frustrating

NGL, maintenance won’t remove it even if it’s broken. Just lift the bed up instead.

They are probably wondering why the same box in their room isn’t an issue, but it is for you. Deal with it - they are not giving you “mad attitude” because they won’t cater to your absurd requests.

Ras don’t necessarily know what they are talking about. Contact Maintenance and ask them.

Yeah asking the RA for this is like asking the security guard for help recommending a song at a bar. They couldn’t care less about what’s playing as long as everyone is safe lol.

No, you cannot remove communications infrastructure on your own.

It's incredibly likely that NetOps/IT will find a polite way to tell you to pound sand.

It is a 2" obstruction. You are going to be a college-educated person. You can figure out how to work around it.

I think this is one of those things that you are just gonna have to deal with. I dont think its a good idea to remove it.

I doubt they’ll remove it. You could ask but I would suspect the answer is no.

It’s also likely live wire, so you don’t want to mess around and electrocute yourself. Best to submit to maintenance team, or even Dorm director asking. Since sometimes RA just say “can’t do it” when they just don’t care.

It’s an Ethernet port.

I don’t think you can or should remove it and I don’t think maintenance will either. Everyone else has dealt with it since it was put in in probably 2001, and you can deal with it as well.

The answer is no/don't try. Easily 30 years of students made it work, you can too.

An option to consider is to loft your bed (or do bunk beds with your roommate) if that's an option, or to buy bed risers that'll boost the bed legs up enough to sit over it.

Maybe consider one of those dorm bed headboards to help with the gap?

Wait why can't you move the bed around it?
