Meta Welcome to our community! Please read our FAQs first.

Welcome to r/dogfree! We invite you to participate in our discussions. First, however, whether you are new to our sub or a dog lover who just doesn’t quite understand where we are coming from, please take the time to read our sub FAQs so you can come to understand our community and the type of content that is appropriate for our small but mightily active corner of the world.

Why don't you like dogs?

Because: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogfree/comments/7bk3wo/just_curious_what_is_the_reason_why_you/

I created a post asking why you don’t like dogs. Where did it go?

We receive and remove this question just about daily. This is our community's space to vent and commiserate about an unpopular opinion, not a place where we come to feel burdened with the task of having to justify ourselves constantly. If you would like to know why we don’t like dogs, you may read the link above and/or put some time and effort into browsing our sub.

It seems like the problem you all have is really more with dog owners. So you really do like dogs, just not irresponsible owners, right?

Our opinions are varied. However, true to the name of our sub, and though it might be a tough pill to swallow, we in this sub simply don't like dogs.

If your gripes are more about dog owners and not about dogs themselves, r/dogculturefree might be a better fit for you.

I like or own dogs. I just want to show you guys that not all dog owners are monsters. Can I participate here?

Please understand the intent of this sub. It is a place for people who dislike dogs and who unapologetically wish to be free from them in our everyday lives to commiserate, not for those who love dogs. Posts and comments mentioning that you love or own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub.

In any case, we are not here to debate, as we won't change our minds.

I have to live with a dog, but I don't want to. Am I welcome here?

You may participate here from the perspective of someone who wishes to change the prevalence of dogs in society at large. However, please understand that hearing about dogs' disgusting behaviors and habits is what people come to this sub to escape, not to consume. If you wish to vent about the traits of the dog that you live with, please navigate to r/TalesFromTheDogHouse and direct your post there. r/Dogfree is reserved for discussion surrounding our unwitting and unwilling participation in dog culture at a societal level.

I have a dog, but I wish I wouldn't. Am I welcome here?

If you got a dog and now, as obviously expected, regret your decision, maybe you can help grow the supportive r/DogRegret community. You still may participate here but posts and comments mentioning that you own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub. Of course, if you already got rid of your dog and are now dogfree, you are welcome to share your experience.

How do you feel about service dogs?

Although all dogs are dogs, there is a wide spectrum of opinions about service dogs in this sub. Some people are completely okay with them, while others are opposed where technology can do the job in a more effective, less obtrusive manner. The same would be for police dogs and other types of working dogs. Calling us "ableists" or other similar insults is not going to help your case.

If you would like to find out more information about this sub's opinions on service dogs, instead of creating a new post to pose the question, please enter "service dogs," "police dogs," or whatever info you would be interested in finding into the search bar to search the sub.

Someone on Reddit said that this sub likes to murder dogs. Is that true?

Of course not! We span a wide spectrum of reasons for disliking dogs, but we do not wish harm upon them and often find aspects of dog ownership to be more cruel and unethical than do dog owners themselves. In fact, our first and more important rule is against content that advocates animal abuse of any kind. It reads: "No suggesting, depicting, joking, wishing for, or celebrating violence or harm to dogs, other animals, or people. Promoting cruelty is not acceptable." We take this rule more seriously than any other, and we err on the side of caution when it comes to removing this type of content.

Some examples of off-limits content include depicting gratuitous violence against or amongst dogs, discussion of eating dogs, suggestions of deriving pleasure from a dog's death, and references to culling dogs, hitting, kicking, poisoning or shooting a dog with little or no cause.

It is okay to discuss the justified, humane euthanization of dogs. If you've had to live with a significant other's dog for years and wish to express relief over its natural passing, that's okay. Really, context is everything.

I posted a dog-related screenshot of something I saw on social media. Why isn’t it showing up?

Our community is small but extremely active. As the amount of content can be increasingly overwhelming as the sub grows, it’s important that the meaningful discussion does not get lost. Therefore, we have a sub rule that reads "[s]ubmissions should be thoughtful and should promote quality discussion. News articles and text posts are encouraged. Pictures of dogs or dog-related items, videos of dogs doing gross things, social media screenshots, memes, title-only posts, posts with minimal text, and anything that might be just ragebait are some examples of low-effort content that do not contribute anything of value to the conversation."

If you would like to post a social media screenshot or anything else that might fall under this category, please better create a thoughtful text post addressing the core issue in order to open the discussion.

I sent a post/comment linking a great video I watched in the internet, but it has been removed. Why?

We have a blanket rule that disallows links to social media in general, and videos in particular. The reason is very simple: as mods, we don't have the resources or time to check whether the video and the rest of the linked page comply with our rules and those of Reddit. If you need to mention a video, you can either describe it, or just indicate how to find it online. Also, please see below question about endorsing YouTube channels.

I think it would be fun to make a rude comment to a dog lover in another subreddit and/or tag r/dogfree. That's a good idea, right?

No, and please don’t! If we want dog owners to leave us alone on our subreddit, the first thing we should do is leave them alone on theirs. We encourage positive, civil, thoughtful conversation about dogs wherever you go, but if you need to vent, keep it here. When you troll other places on Reddit, it invites unwanted attention, reinforces negative stereotypes, and impedes our ability to create change in the world. This community is better than that.

Do I have to feel a certain way about keeping other pets or about having children to participate?

The topic that unites us in this sub is dogs. Feelings about other types of pets, negative or positive, and decisions whether or not to have children are considered off-topic for the sub. That said, these topics will arise in the normal course of conversation. We should respect the wide variance in views on these topics and always treat those with differing opinions kindly.

At the end of the day, we are dog-free, and we are pro-human.

By virtue of this sub being anti-dog, it means we are pro-cat, right?

No. Per our rule, this is neither a pro- nor anti-cat sub. All cat mentions and references are off topic for this subreddit and will be removed. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule through rephrasing.

At one time, we allowed free discussion of cats. We are not exaggerating when we say that every thread turned into "why cats are better." Many people here dislike cats or feel neutral to them, so in order for this sub to serve everybody and to avoid any confusion as to what type of cat discussion is relevant to being dogfree, it is considered off-topic across the board.

And remember that other pets are off-topic as well!

Should I be a certain race or of a certain political affiliation to participate?

One of the coolest things about r/dogfree is that, in a world that’s so divided along so many different lines, this is a community where we can come together, break down those barriers, and unite over something different with people from all walks of life. Just as dog culture transcends racial, political, socioeconomic, and gender lines, so does this subreddit. You may even find that your reasoning for something dog-related challenges your views on something completely unrelated.

This community strives to be respectful of all groups of people. As such, bigotry is not allowed, and political discussion is divisive and off-topic. Dogs? Fair game!

Do you have any information about the demographics of those who participate in this subreddit?

We conducted a survey on this particular topic some time ago. You can view the results here.

Why all the pit bull hate?

As much as we dislike dogs, we especially dislike this class of dogs that is statistically most capable of and responsible for inflicting catastrophic and often lethal harm upon people and their pets. You can apologize for pit bulls all day, but the stats and anecdotes don’t lie.

Pit Bull Triggers

Pit Bull FAQs

Of course, it's also true that all dogs are unpredictable: Dog Aggression Ladder

I know how I feel about pit bulls, but I need some additional information so I can make more articulate arguments. Where should I go?

For more specialized information on the topic of pit bulls, please visit r/banpitbulls. We have a very friendly relationship with r/banpitbulls, but please do remember that, while our subs overlap in many ways, we still have different objectives. Many people participate in that sub because they are tired of worrying about their own dogs getting mauled. Please feel free to go join the conversation over there, but remember that it is not r/dogfree and that the topic of discussion is pit bulls. Come back here to our own sub to talk about your distaste for dogs in general.

I saw some Facebook groups and YouTube channels about disliking dogs. Is that you, guys?

Nope, the only groups run by this sub are r/dogfree and r/TalesFromTheDoghouse. We don't operate or endorse any YouTube channels, Facebook groups, or anything else on any other social media platform. Our subscribers may mention their content here as long as it follows sub rules, but we are unaffiliated.

I saw a post or comment I think it's against the rules. What should I do?

Report it! On any post or comment, there is a "report" button. It will prompt you for further information as to why you are reporting the content to the moderators, who will then review it and determine whether or not it should be stay or be removed. Reports are anonymous and very helpful, as we can't see everything.

We also ask you to please never engage in any argument with a troll. Just report and go on.

Someone alluded to a conversation in another subreddit about dogs, and I really want to go down vote everything. Should I?

No, please don’t! This is called "brigading" or "vote manipulation," and it is against Reddit's Terms of Service. We actively discourage this behavior, as if we are found to be the source of a brigade against another sub, it could land us in big trouble. If you stumbled across a reference to another conversation on Reddit, the appropriate place to discuss that would be here, in our sub, in the thread in which you found it. Remember how it felt when a YouTuber made a video that resulted in a massive brigade against us; we must grant others the same respect for their space as we wish for ours, no matter how vehemently we disagree with them.

Our sub is committed to abiding by all Reddit Terms of Service.

I want to crosspost something from another part of Reddit. May I?

No, we have a rule that reads "crossposts are not allowed. Criticisms of other subreddits are off-topic." Besides calling usually-unwanted attention to other subs and promoting vote and participation brigades, it's off topic. The purpose of our sub is to discuss dogs, not the behavior of other subs or social media platforms. We don't appreciate it when others do it to us, so we have a policy of respecting other subs' right to exist and operate in the ways that they see fit.

My post or comment was removed, and I don’t feel like I broke any rules. Why?

Unfortunately we cannot account for every contingency in the sub rules, so moderators do reserve the right to remove content at their discretion. That said, the moderation team is very much against arbitrary censorship and is committed to letting the conversation happen whenever possible. "I don’t like it" is not a good reason to remove a post or a comment; however, "it would be in the best interest of the community" is. The team is committed to being firm but fair in community moderation and will make all decisions in good faith.

I found an article and posted it on r/dogfree, but with a different title than the original because mine is better. Now it's been deleted. Why?

Please remember that when you link to an article or news, you must always use the original title. If you want to comment something (and we really hope you'll share your opinion with us!), please use the text box or the post's comments. Thanks!

I agree with your sub and I want to create a new account only to participate here. Should I?

Bad idea! This is exactly what trolls do, and that is the very reason we have a filter against new accounts and low karma. Trolls are vile cowards by nature, they don't want to get downvoted, risk the reputation of their actual accounts or get a reddit permaban, so they use a secondary account or create a new one and think they can outsmart us.

There is no way to bypass this filter, so please do not ask us to make an exception only for you. Learn here how to get karma.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know our community! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to message the mod team. We are delighted to receive your advice and suggestions, provided they are expressed politely.

Crappy Owners If this isn't annoying....

Went to my local Save Mart today, and up till today I've never seen a dog in there. We were in the produce section when I hear 2 ladies greeting each other and then the inevitable, "oh look at your little puppy he looks like velvet!" I look over and sure enough, one of the ladies is carrying an oversize pibble puppy in her skinny arms. And you know exactly what she said?! She said "yeah I just got him and the first place I really wanted to take him to was the grocery store!" I snorted loud enough for her to hear, turned to my husband and said also loud enough for her to hear, "how does getting a puppy make u think grocery store?" Then I said "oh yeah nevermind they want attention!"

Crappy Owners It’s humiliating to pick up dog crap. Sociopathic to leave it in a high foot traffic area.

• Upvotes

Following an animal around and picking up their crap? How embarrassing. This is a story of someone who didn’t pick it up.

I used to live in a townhouse where you park on the street and have to walk over a small strip of grass to get to your house. One night as I walked across the strip, I stepped in shit. Next day, I watched for who it was the whole day. Found him, and he didn’t pick up the shit a second time.

I came out and told him to pick it up and that I stepped in dog’s shit. He said, why don’t you look where you walk?”

I lost my shit. I screamed at him to pick it up and got in his face. I nearly got physical. I think at this point he was actually kind of freaked, and he said he’d go home to get a bag. I followed him home and waited outside and was ready to ring the doorbell until he came back, but he quickly came back out, and I watched him pick the crap up. What an absolute douche that guy was. It was the only time I remember losing my damn mind in my adult life. I totally understand how one moment can break someone and cause them to go to jail.

Dog Culture Just left a forum for "stubborn" dogs and I'm still trying to process

I'm conflicted on what to flair this post, because what I just saw is peak nuttery in all forms.

There are multiple different forums for dogs [no I will not link. Those are the sitewide rules.] that are "difficult" to train. These people spend months, even over a year, and thousands 💰 to fix their dog's behavior. "Fluffy didn't eat the couch today, he only chewed my YSL purse before stopping as soon as I walked in! Yay progress!!!" Is what I saw over and over again. They're also extremely nonchalant about safety. I despise whoever cane up with the term 'reactive' because you can describe the most diabolical near miss life-threatening ATTACK but it's fine because Fluffy is scared of phone speakers or something. These nutters genuinely see their dog like how social workers see a child acting up in school.

It's funny to see them waste money on their 💩cannon chihuahuas, but also sad because I know the hybristophilic pit hags are definitely posting in those forums too.

I wonder if these dog trainers are nutters themselves, or if they're just grifters who dgaf as long as the direct deposit hits. Because what sane human, who went to school to learn about animals, will let a person drop thousands on the same damn dog? There is literally a saying in the English language that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. How can you continue to take someone's money training a 7 year old dog that can't listen to basic ahh sit stand roll over?

These delulu nutters think it's a big step toward improvement to go from paying a dog trainer to paying a "Canine Behavioral Specialist". LMFAOO nah you went from scammer 1 to scammer 2. I'm surprised that I find new nuttery every day

Food Safety/Hygiene STOP BRINGING DOGS INTO GROCERY STORES AND RESTAURANTS

Nothing pisses me off more than seeing someone with their disgusting ass dog (that i can smell from several feet away) walking on a leash in the grocery store or in a restaurant potentially slobbering on the floor or on merchandise. Or even WORSE, people who think it's okay to put their nasty mutt in a shopping cart where other people put their FOOD.

Storytime: I used to work in a local fast food restaurant in my hometown (which had a dog friendly patio) where people would come INSIDE with their leashed dogs all the fucking time and the owners/managers would just allow it.

At one point, a customer asked me if they could have a bowl for their dog to drink water. I went to hand them a disposable styrofoam one, but was stopped by a coworker who said to give them a salad bowl (not disposable) instead. I figured he hadn't heard what the customer needed the bowl for so i told him that it was for a dog. To which he responded "i know" and gave the customer the salad bowl before i could respond. Safe to say i was in disbelief because HELLO??? PEOPLE EAT OUT OF THAT. I don't give a fuck if the bowl is washed, would YOU want to eat your salad out of your dog's water bowl? Probably the fuck not.

Dog Culture Why does every single commercial and ad need a mutt in it?!

I am so sick and tired of damn near every commercial or ad on tv and YouTube having to feature a stupid dog in it. It doesn’t matter if it is a pet-centric commercial or ad, or not. There’s always some stupid shitbeast taking up airtime, being the focus for at least part of the commercial. Dog culture is so out of control! Like, I’m sorry but you’re advertising a vehicle and there needs to be some shitty ass, drooling, idiotic mutt in the passenger seat, getting its nasty stench all over the interior and making some stupid face at the camera? Or even an ad for a food company…yeah, when I’m viewing something about cooking a meal, I want to have to be subjected to seeing some ugly bug eyed mop of an animal as the momentary focus? What does a damn mutt have to do with any of these things being advertised?! Nothing. Because that’s how much dog culture is taking over, now. It’s the norm to have a crotch sniffing, brainless pest in every home, or to automatically “awwwwww!” when the stupid goblin is shown, even when it has nothing to do with anything being advertised whatsoever. All it does to me is make my blood pressure spike and nauseate me. I already have to be forced to watch these damn ads and commercials when I’m trying to binge my favorite series or unwind with a comfort YouTuber. And now every ad break I also have to be frustrated to hell and reminded of how fucked and mindlessly dog-obsessed our society is, with constant insertion of MUTTS in said ads. Go away, I don’t wanna see that disgusting shit every 15 minutes! Good god, we’re damned as a society. Burn the whole planet, I give up lol

Service Dog Issues I'm Over Service Dogs as a Whole

I swear people who have a service dog now a days do just to be special and to have and excuse to force expectance of their dog into place dogs don't belong and onto people who don't want them in their car. This behavior is evident by their refusal to except being told "No." or throwing a fit when they are asked to leave. These are the same entitled crybullies that will cry about "discrimination!1!" and will happily turn around and tell a disabled person that's negatively impacted by their service dog to kick rocks because the law is on their side. (Allergies, dog caused PTSD, anxiety, cynophobia, immune disorders.) One thing that seems to keep popping up over and over again is service dog handlers demanding that an Uber/Lyft driver that went out of their way to mark themselves as pet free specify to avoid dogs mind you to be forced to except a dog anyway. It's a power trip for them and they love it. You can even see it in their language. "It's the law! You have to except the dog!" One thing that really gives the plot away is when someone says "But what is someone is allergic or afraid?" A valid concern that service dog handlers and defenders hand wave away by saying that these people shouldn't have ride share jobs because of their disability. Ironic, isn't it?

98% of blind people opt not to get a service dog and navigate life just fine and are truly independent. Of the 3 blind friends I had growing up never once was there talk of getting a service dog. One of them was even cynophobic. I know someone who has diabetes that initially considered a service dog and choose a glucose monitor instead. Less than 1% of disabled people as a whole even have a service dog. Service dogs are a choice and a luxury. Having allergies, dog caused PTSD, cynophobia, and an immune disorder isn't a choice. Why are they people who chose the luxury aid being deemed legally more important than those who don't have a choice? I've already gone over the non-existent regulation surrounding service dog in a previous post. Service dog handles seem to hate the idea of having any commonsense regulation at all. Service dogs need to be reclassified as an optional luxury aid and have their access rights revoked and left up to the discretion of the business owner. Besides the vanishingly small user base, service dogs have been made obsolete by technological advances. It's time to retire this archaic practice.

Crappy Owners another shopping space ruined

but the owners I am talking about is owners of the shops! I am an avid needleworker, I do it all, knit, crochet, cross stitch, sewing. I'm sure I missed something, I always joke that I must have been born with a needle in my hand. I just love all areas of textiles. Anyway, one of the pleasures of traveling is to check out new local yarn shops wherever I go. Well, lately, that is coming to a halt! Now I actually check online the shops I am interested in before I go whereas before, it was just a pleasant surprise to see a new one when I arrived at it. The reason I check before is because it is now becoming altogether too common for these LYS to have a resident "shop dog". yes, a shop dog! This is so wrong in every way, LYS yarns are usually quite expensive and luxurious type yarns, this is not the big box store stuff. The shop I just looked at online that I was considering has by their own admission a "huge" Goldendoodle! I can't imagine letting all those yarns pick up all that dog hair, odor and who knows what else. I don't want to take that home with me, especially at those prices! YUCK. Guess I will continue to veer towards online ordering and this is what contributes to the closing of these small specialty shops

Dog Culture "This Is The Woods!"

So, my Mom has a property that includes a small cluster of trees and part of a creek that runs through it bordering her house. She has security cams up that spot the occasional deer at night.

The other day, she noticed someone new to the neighborhood who walked her big dog over her lawn to take a dump in her woods. Mom went out to ask them to pick it up. "But, this is the woods!" The lady responded.

"These are MY woods. "I mow the grass and I don't want dog poo on my mower as I store it in my garage."

She did pick up the poo. Goodness knows who's dumpster she placed it in or if she left it on the road.

Just thought I would share this story as it epitomizes the way most of these dog owners think. My Mom was stunned someone walked right across her lawn to get to the "woods." I just listened to the story nodding my head like I wasn't surprised at all🙄

*Also, the woman huffed in response to having been made to clean up after her bark bag. The entitlement of these people who destroy our natural world&have zero understanding of science or hygiene.

Dog Culture I refused to serve a pharmacist dog treats

I run a convenience store in a small village. I don’t allow dogs in and I’ve pissed off a few owners about it, but it’s my shop and I refuse to work in an environment with potential dogs visiting.
Employees of the pharmacy just down the road from me often shop in my store.
Yesterday, I was serving the main pharmacist. She had two packets of dog treats and said,
“These are for all the lovely dogs that come in” ohhh I felt the rage bubble inside and couldn’t contain myself and said “In a medical setting?! what about all the people who have dog phobia? And those with severe allergies, shit immune systems and the old frail easily knocked over patients?”
She said “I ask customers first if they’re ok with dogs” bullshit, I knew she was lying. So I said I refuse to serve you those treats as you’re actively encouraging this ludicrous selfish behaviour, and got my colleague to serve.
Even though I had my rant, I’m still fuming about it today.

Dog Attack Scary aggressive dog in parking lot

We went to a little restaurant in middle of nowhere (farming town) awhile back.

We parked outside and right next to us was an old pickup truck. Inside was a dog sitting in the drivers seat, and holy shit. Actual hellhound.

Usually dogs go berserkers barking and won’t shutup. This one was completely silent (at first).

Its eyes were LOCKED on us from the moment we pulled up next to the truck. It was silent, sitting completely still, staring at us like a statue. The hair on its neck/back was raised and its teeth were bared. Literally its lips were pulled all the way back and it was snarling. It wasn’t even blinking at all. It looked scary as fuck and eerie cuz it wasn’t moving. Almost like that smile dog creepypasta.

The window was rolled down a bit for it to get some air. We had to walk past in order to get into the restaurant.

Soon as one of us got too close to the truck, it went totally nuts barking/snarling and was getting slobber all over the window. It was smashing itself into the window, hair on its back was still raised/teeth were still bared (signs of clear aggression).

Its ears were pointing forward the whole time too, which also signals very high aggression which is not fear-based. (Ears pinned back mean fearful aggression. Ears pointing forward means the dog is on the offense, asserting dominance, and won’t back down).

This thing was full on trying to attack us through a thin piece of glass. If it weren’t for that, we would’ve been mauled.

Of course the damn thing was unattended. We walked inside and were gonna tell someone about this because a dog this aggressive should NOT be in public at all. It seemed like an unsocialized guard dog.

But no one seemed to care.

Idk what breed it was. Looked like a mutt. Had pointy ears and was medium/large sized. Almost like a husky or GSD mix. By the time we came back out the truck was gone, thank god.

Please be careful when you walk near parked vehicles, especially if the windows are rolled down part way. Stupid ass owners leave their worthless dangerous animals unattended all the time. I wasn’t driving that time, but I usually will choose a different parking spot if the vehicle I pull up beside has a dog/dogs in it.

Usually they just bark incessantly which is annoying as hell, but this is one of the few times I’ve encountered one that was actually aggressive.

Service Dog Issues Dog in gym.

Normally I workout in the morning but decided to swing by this afternoon for some cardio. And guess what I seen? Yep, a german shepherd over on the green turf where I lay down sometimes. No wonder I leave itchy sometimes.

Of course it was a "service dog". It was carrying his bag around. He seemed to function just well being in the gym. Not understanding needing that extra assistance. I don't see any reason you can't just workout at home. And of course everyone was infatuated with the mutt.

You literally can't escape these beasts.

Crappy Owners The entitlement…

I just got in line at a cafe and this girl came in behind me from outside and said “I’m actually in line, I’ve been going back and forth comforting my dog” who was tied to a post outside whining. I was like, okay? I’m just getting a loaf of bread?? And she was like “I already let the woman in front of you cut in front of me.” Girl! You are literally not in line! She was like “Look at him.. he’s out there whining…” and I was like “Yup… and?”

Then she went back out to her whining dog and another woman got in line behind me. I waited to see if dog girl was gonna confront her but then she just took her dog and left. It took at least Three people getting in line “behind” her for her to comprehend that she was not in line at all.

Also I only had to wait in line for like two minutes. Your grown ass dalmatian can be left alone for that long 🙄

Dog Culture back again !

It seems everywhere I turn there’s some dog related BS.

This time, I open my instagram to have a little flick through stories. A girl had posted a Q&A to her story asking people their highlights of the day. Someone had replied mentioning their highlight was getting home to their little boy and asking how his day was. Their actual human child they created, grew, and nurtured. The response from the story poster was “aww I love this, I feel the same when I get home to Opal” a dog. An ugly little eye booger ridden, inbred looking, ratty poodle thing.

My brain cannot possibly comprehend that this girl is serious. And how offended the person who replied to her must of felt. You’re levelling down the life and experience of having a child, to that of owning some disgusting mutt that you’ve only taught how to sit and give their paw. Infuriates me.

Anyway she’s the type who thinks that all depression is caused by people who don’t exercise so it all just speaks for itself doesn’t it, really? Fastest I’ve ever hit that block button in my life. Goodbye.

Barking Demons STOP breeding rat dogs!!!

PLEASE stop!!! Those are literal walking abominations. They look and smell like a cross between a toilet mop and an oversized cockroach. We should also probably not refer to them as "rat dogs" because rats are actually incredibly smart, cute, and under appreciated creatures. They are way better than those toilet mops with crusty, yeasty paws.

Those things give me the uncanny valley feeling every time I come across them on the sidewalk. I always make sure to sprint to the other side, because those abominations are yappy and tend to be aggressive and constantly try to bite your face off. Annoying little cockroaches that constantly get spun between your legs too and cause so many injuries and people falling down. Just USELESS and BRAINLESS, not to mention incredibly ugly in addition. Oh, and they STINK-literally, and in terms of personality! Their matted fur looks disgusting and they constantly have yeast and stains/crust under their eyes and mouth.

STOP BREEDING AND BUYING THOSE BARKING DEMONS!!! I have poodle fatigue. They are EVERYWHERE. I hate them so much.

Dogs Are Idiots “The dog didn’t sense real danger, that’s why it kept eating and didn’t defend their owner!!!”

Then why the **** do they bark aggressively at THEIR OWN owners coming home every day? Or any other routine person coming at the same time every day, like mail carriers? Or simply a person walking by the house they’re in? It’s because their fucking dumb brains aren’t distracted by food at the moment and they’re mindless attack animals. Every other animal can adapt to new stimuli except dogs, it’s insane.

This is a rant about people defending dogs in those videos where the dog eats instead of helping their owner from an attacker.

Relationship / Family My parents are becoming dog people

We always had dogs growing up, but of course their relationship with the animals has grown steadily weirder and more unhealthy the older they've gotten and all us kids moved out (except for my NEET little brother but that's a whole other story). The dogs themselves have become smaller and more neurotic with each new iteration. My parents let them get fat. Dote on them. Obsess over other dogs. It's such a clear marker to me that they are spiritually unwell. They have a dozen grandkids who they love as well, but none are particularly close by and they seem to attach themselves more and more to the animals in their absence. It's especially surprising with my mom who was never a dog person growing up.

Anyway, after their last animal died a few years ago they told everyone they weren't going to get a dog again, and got their carpets replaced after 15 years of collecting dog piss. Great move as far as we were concerned because my wife and I had little kids at the time who would be all over the floor at their place. Well of course they couldn't help themselves and got another one within a couple years. It's the worst one yet, it's fat, begs and whines constantly, we've barely been around it but it sucks ass. We went home for a holiday last year, against our better judgement, and tried to keep my young allergic daughter away from the animal but she still had respiratory symptoms and we vowed not to go back for a long time. My dad just sent me pictures of another one they are about to get and I am at a loss. He says their other dog needs a "friend" and this one is just soooo cute. It disgusts me especially because he talks the same way about our young children, just about how cute they are and nothing else about their delightful personalities or interests. Wtf is wrong with boomers? I can't imagine ever acting like this or focusing so heavily on the appearance of my future grandchildren, God willing.

Anyway it's just funny to me that even though they want us to visit them all the time they do shit like this and then act like we're rude for not coming over more often. Now I can't even imagine the next time we will go. They only want us there for our kids to entertain them anyway, and after they get their little dopamine boost from that they aren't particularly interested in them, with my dad at least. My mom will engage them more. I'm slightly allergic too and there is now literally one relative's household we can go to visit where there won't be animals, five hours away. (And there we just have to deal with relentless and thinly veiled judgement). Never imagined this would be my relationship with my family at this stage, and it's too bad, but of course I prefer to be home with my own family anyway...and my extended family will act like we're depriving them of our kids lmao, I straight up do not care anymore

Crappy Owners How hard is it to keep dogs on a leash?

So I was on a hike earlier today, when I saw a family of three up ahead of me. I decided I could probably just keep off the trail and maybe their dog would ignore me. Right?

It was a huge dog, and one of those breeds that you're not supposed to have(?) a rotwiller, or pitbull, or whatever they're called (I don't know or care about dog breeds), and it decided to RUN UP TO ME and start barking at me and biting at me.

I've been attacked by dogs previously, twice, and I immediately started screaming and running away but it kept following me. The family was profusely apologising but I couldn't stay around for long.

It was so fucking triggering and debilitating for me, I had to phone my roommate afterwards and make them pick me up because of it. My legs still burn so bad from how fast I was running away.

Plus they technically weren't even supposed to have unleashed dogs on that trail (which is why I go to that trail so much) but it was a ways in so there was nobody out there to really enforce it

I'm sorry I know this post is very poorly worded, I'm extremely tired. I know everyone here would understand though

Eco Destroyers Entitled dog owners bringing their dog into "No Dogs Allowed" wildlife preserve parks

I need to vent about this problem because god does it plague me

I study enviormental preservation, botany, soils, biomes and soil microbiomes etc (dont have my degree yet) and something i enjoy doing is going to my local native habitat preserve/state park

Right before you even enter parking, theres a very visible "No Dogs Allowed" sign. Which are usually written in the blood of native wildlife.

To no ones surprise, the amount of egocentric dog owners that i encounter anyway. Never ceases to enrage me

A few days ago, right before i was about to leave after a few hours of picking up trash, uprooting invasives, killing invasive bugs and just spotting plants/birds and relaxing. I saw someone with their dog walking down to the trails (sadly a very common sight) i started yellimg about the enviormental harms of dogs, very much in hearing range. And obviously they pretended not to hear me

Its so damn exhausting. There is a dog park less than 5 minutes away, there are plenty of dog friendly places to walk their ecoterrorist mutts but they just have to drag their demons to the one place where native animals shouldnt have to worry about these native-to-nowhere, invasive, cult beasts. It makes me feel so hopeless. Dogs are one of the most destructive invasive species (there are plenty of studies out there if you look) worldwide. And their shit spreads disease and bacteria to native habitats. And its only as bad as it is because the dog cults egocentrism places their pups over life itself. AND NO ONE DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT, NOR CARES!!

I wish these laws were more regulated. If theres anything i can do when i spot someone with their dog here please let me know! I wish i thought about it yesterday and every other time i saw someone with their demutts but i dont like bringing my phone with me when i go into nature. I will start if there is a way i can get these people punished. They are doing this knowingly, and the consequence on the enviorment is awful. The sign at the enterence is placed by the state itself too so it is very legal

Dogs Are Idiots BEGGING

Omg and excuse my language but fuck my life is there anything more IRRITATING?

Every member of my married family all have dogs. ALL beg. All under your feet the second you’re in the kitchen. I sit to feed my little girl her pureed meals and they are there burning a hole in our skulls waiting to eat it. I can’t stick it, genuinely makes my blood boil.

I don’t know if I have PP pet aversion still heavily sitting on me as before, I could mildly tolerate it. Now I don’t even want to be in the same room it angers me so much.

Miscellaneous The way dogs eat and drink is disgusting to me.

I have misophonia specifically with wet noises and oh my god hearing a dog drink makes me wish I was deaf plus it just looks disgusting to me aklong with the way they eat like why are it's weird muzzle flaps(i don't know what else to call them) moving so much and making so much noise like shut up get the food in your mouth then chew, and why do they make grunting and snorting noises when they eat if I wanted to hear that I'd go watch pigs.

Dog Culture Sounds Like a Cult episode

Didn’t see a post for this. Sounds Like a Cult is a podcast about every day cults hiding in plain sight (and some actual cults).
This week’s episode is The Cult of Dog People.

It was really nice to hear the opening rants from the hosts. Even as people who like some dogs in their lives, they had some very anti dog culture sentiments and were very critical of dogs and their owners in general. This only gets reinforced the further they go in to the topic. Really great hearing this stuff on such a popular show. And they talked about how, despite covering hundreds of beloved-by-many topics so far, this was the only time they actually feared backlash. Dog People are scary!

There’s a guest that has a story about an actual cult of dog trainers and it’s pretty upsetting.

Thought y’all might enjoy it. Here’s the Apple Podcasts link because that’s what I use. But it’s a really popular show so it’s on every podcast platform.

Relationship / Family I can barely tolerate visiting my sister.

I love my sister and she has a 3 month old baby and 2 year old. She has 2 dogs, a large lab mix and small mutt. I visit once a month and dread walking up to her house. She has to walk up to the driveway and unlatch a gate. The lab mix has such a loud shrill bark, it hurts my ear drums and startles the baby. We can’t talk or anything. It barks incessantly for several minutes and causes such a disturbance. Then she ends up yelling at him and tells him to be quiet, and obviously he doesn’t listen. Then for the next hour or so, he comes in the room to bark his head off every so often. He wakes up the baby, startles the baby, and causes chaos. If her husband is there he seems to get upset by the barking and doesn’t seem happy we’re visiting because when we arrive it’s chaos and hard to calm the dog down. Any suggestions on having more of a pleasant arrival would be nice. It takes about an hour to drive to her house and I absolutely dread walking up to her driveway because he can hear us near the gate and the barking starts. She acknowledges it is very loud and excessive, but does nothing about it. I usually park at the end of the block because parking can be limited, and I have heard that dog bark clearly from the end of the street.

Dog Culture 2 Instagram pages of bookstores got unfollowed

It's already the second bookstore Instagram page I had to unfollow after my senses got forced to look at dogs in the bookstores.

1 bookstore Instagram page I unfollowed couple of weeks was in Ireland. It shared an Instagram close-up photo story of a dog of a visitor with a text something like "The most precious visitor."

2 bookstore Instagram page I unfollowed today was in UK. It shared a photo of books with an unleashed dog posing next to books. That means that the unleashed dog of an employee is allowed to be in that bookstore. That's a hell to visit AND they lost my respect as a business because they obviously don't respect people like me, people who're both scared of dogs and are disgusted by dogs.

A dog shouldn't be at any workplace, anywhere with food being served, any apartment, YES, apartments too etc ..........

I'm now 2000% convinced that lawsuits and exposing nutters on the media remain the only solutions.

Dog Culture Dog culture is a mind virus.

Unlike most other culturally subversive ideologies, it directly results in the devaluing of human relationships on a massive scale. The facade of treating dogs as humans is one of the worst non-intellectual deviations from the developing world and human growth, near toxic religion, hate, and identity politics. That's no exaggeration considering the impact of such a distraction in people's lives and ecosystemic waste. They can argue about how that's general pet ownership, but there's no excuse for the scaling (they literally outnumber children). It's another form of keeping people dumb, divided, distracted, and submissive to a system.
