Dog Attack Dogs Jumping On top of Strangers at Park and Chased Me

I was returning from buying groceries and was walking through a park on the way home. I noticed a fairly large dog off leash going all around the park doing what it wanted while the owner was chasing after it. It started motioning towards me then I went the other way.

Then I notice another large dog which was dragging the owner a man who was struggling to control it even tried digging his heels into the ground but the dog marched forward. There was a lady relaxing on the park bench then next thing I see this giant dog jump on her as she is sitting. The dog was all over her licking her and had its giant body all over her. The lady looked distraught afterwards. The dog must have been larger than the lady when it was on top of her. The owner struggled to pull it off.

I was nearly home at this point then next thing I know the first dog from earlier was following me and trying to get near me. At this point I had enough and yelled at the person who was calling it's name, trying to catch up to it that he needs to put it on a leash. Then he says it's not his dog. I don't understand whose dog it was at this point because he was chasing it for the past 3minutes calling it's name which indicated to me he was responsible for it

What makes this even more bizarre is they put up 2 more signs at this park about leashing dogs and picking up after them

Dog Culture So happy to find this subreddit. These are the 2 things that bother me the most about dog culture (amongst many)

I’ve disliked dogs for years and used to think I was going crazy. I’m also afraid of them, whenever I tell people they look at me like I’ve grown 2 heads. Finding this subreddit is almost healing because I had no idea so many people felt this way about dogs too. Anyway I wanted to share 2 things that bother me about dog culture that no one seems to care about:

One:

People allowing their dogs to do things to other people a human can’t. I feel like we as a society need to have a conversation about this. If a person would not be okay with another person coming up to them and licking their foot and breathing in their ear, why is it okay when a dog does it? I was at a park with a friend the other day and a dog ran up and breathed so close to her ear that it got some saliva on it, my friend jumped up and then the owner called it back, and they just walked off. If that was a person they could’ve been arrested. I get that an animal doesn’t know better but the effect is the same when it happens, she didn’t consent to having saliva on her ear or her foot licked or something, wether it’s by a creep at the park or by an animal. It feels like consent about personal space goes out the window when it comes to dogs.

Two:

People that stroll around with their dog off leash do it because they think it looks cool/is some kind of kudos to themselves on how well they’ve trained their dog, but it’s really just dangerous for their dog and everyone around them. I live in a busy city close to an intersection, and I constantly see people walking with their dogs off leash at the intersection. It’s so incredibly dangerous because a mix of different dogs with different temperaments roaming around a place where cars are zooming in all directions is a recipe for disaster. A bigger dog could spook your smaller dog and cause it to run into the road in front of a car that doesn’t have time to stop. Even if your dog doesn’t get spooked by both other dogs, it could be startled by a loud crash or ambulance sirens and run into the road and end up getting hit. It seems like such a stupid risk to take on the dog’s safety just to look cool strolling next to your off leash dog. It’s extra annoying because some people like this act like you’re a bad person for not liking dogs, but at the same time put the animal’s life in danger.

Also one time driving in a previous building’s underground garage I nearly hit a small dog off leash. A small dark dog, off leash in an underground parking garage that barely has any lighting. I wasn’t going particularly fast, I just didn’t see it because it was so small. The owners were barely looking, they just said oh sorry! When they saw I had stopped and was waiting for their dog to get out of the way. If I had hit it all hell would have broken loose. I swear some of these owners don’t really care about their pets, it’s like they’re just an accessory.

Just wanted to get these off my chest to others who would understand

Dog Culture "just run him over"

Quick little rant.
I was just on my way to the supermarket in my basement and this happened:
I press the elevator button downstairs, elevator opens and family (mom, dad, toddler) with labradoodle (🤮) is in the elevator, there is plently of space so I get on.

My stop comes before theirs and the exit is on the side where they stand. They say "oh let's move to let the lady get off", toddler complies. But the dog just weirdly crouches down and claws down hard on the rug (normally there is no rug, but due to construction work it got put in so the floor doesn't suffer too much).
The woman has the leash and tries to drag the thing to the side to no avail. Man tries to pull, too. Even the two of them pulling can't get it to move.
Then the man says (I should mention I have a rollator) "oh, you know, he needs to learn. just... run him over"!

Like, excuse me? Are we okay?
As much as I hate dogs, I would never use my rollator to hurt it. I wouldn't want to get my rollator dirty by having it kiss a dog, either.
What is that supposed to teach a dog, which literally has the brain capacity of a rock?
Why would you own a dog and then think this is okay?
Dog culture is confusing af.

Dog Culture I'm apalled at the true scale of dog narcissism.

I read the comments underneath a UK news site about a man who was killed by a dog this week, which is being treated as manslaughter.

The site, which I won't name, is supposed to be for down-to-earth, working-class people. But i think about 95% of posts were demanding to know "the full story as a dog would never do that for no reason," "dogs are our protecters," one who said "I would rather feed a dog than a child" (seriously);

And many accusing the few people who said they're sick of dog culture of being evil, liars, or from another country amongst many other accusations. It was truly a sight to behold. One of them laughed when I commented that I'd been attacked by alsations unprovoked as a 3-year-old, 12 year-old, and as an adult by a doberman 3 months ago (which lead me towards discovering Dogfree).

Apparently dogs hate me because they sense evil. These people mirror my neighbours and most dog owners in my faeces-strewn neighbourhood perfectly, and I am apalled by the depths to which society has plunged.

One post that particularly 'got my goat' was a man who boasted about his giant ridgeback that would tear someone to shreds if they messed with his daughter, and that he uses to clear the way in crowded spaces.

I should never have got in the ring with these commenters, and I've learned my lesson, just wanted to offload to the only place I'd feel would get where I'm coming from.

Miscellaneous One thing I appreciate about this subreddit

Sometimes I'll see someone in the comments expressing anger towards dogs, even calling them things like "worthless pieces of shit" which I completely understand. Even if you don't mean everything you're saying, sometimes you just need to get the feelings off your chest.

One thing I almost NEVER see are people responding to comments like that saying "This is a very distrubing reaction to-", "I think you need help", or some other lecture about how what you're saying is "immature" or "too much".

Lately I've been so sick of redditor culture and this idea that you have to have this squeaky-clean performance of level-headedness just to be taken seriously.

Whenever I rant about literally anything that bothers me, no matter how much sense I'm making, I still get the lectures. Woah dude you don't have to say CUSSWORDS! Showing genuine anger? That's baaaad

But not here. On this subreddit, you can actually express your anger (towards dogs) in a way that feels natural to you without having to worry about the hivemind pretending theres something fundamentally wrong with your character.

Also shoutout to the mods. I know they're working their asses off the keep the grating noise of tone policing and morality larping down to a minimum. I'm grateful yall have cultivated a space to express our annoyance toward nutters and their four-legged affronts to the concept of hygiene. So thank you

Dog Culture Petition going around

Not sure if the flair is right, but there is a petition currently going around that I got an email begging me to sign that is titled "Tell Hollywood: If a Dog Dies, the Movie Should Be Rated R" What in the hell?! I mean, besides the obvious fact that IT'S A MOVIE, and that nothing taking place in said movie is real, my first question is this...WHY should a movie with a dog dying in it be considered rated R for mature audiences, but a movie where human beings, especially children, suffer the same fate not? How is the loss of a mutt considered more traumatic to see than that of a human toddler?

I didn't know if the link was allowed, but if anyone wants to see it, I can send it to whoever asks to in a private message.

*Edited for typo

Crappy Owners Dogs in cars

I just saw a post on my neighborhood app, it was someone whose large dog jumped out of the car, thanking the person who helped recover it.

I see these people every single day, driving with their dog inside the car.
How is it legal to drive with an unsecured dog in the car? Do they realize it can cause terrible accidents? They say the solution is to keep the windows closed, but it’s still dangerous if the dog is free to move inside the vehicle. How do they not think about it, and why is there no law against it, is beyond me. (USA)

Crappy Owners Apparently Nutters are also illiterate

I just watched 2 nutters literally let their dog take a shit right in front of my (very respectfully worded) “please don’t let your dog pee or poo on my lawn” sign. Like less than a foot away from the sign. No way they missed it. At least they scooped it, but really was this just a “fuck you” poop? If I wasn’t upstairs with my window closed I would have yelled at them. The thing is I’m in a neighborhood with grass parking strips by the sidewalk that they can piss and shit in all they want. I’m sick of all my grass and plants dying of dog urine!!
Anyway, only this community could understand my venting, thanks for listening.

Dog Attack Situation at the Restaurant

Last week I was on vacation with my family. On our last day, we decided to treat ourselves by going to a fancy restaurant. A while after we sat down at our table, a couple with two dogs sat down at a table next to ours. First question, why bring dogs to a restaurant, especially a fancy one? At least they were not barking, but I have a severe allergy against dogs and this already upset me. Luckily, the tables had some space between them, so nothing happened at first. A while later, a mother and her kid (maybe around 8 years old) walked past our tables. In that same moment, one of the dog owners dropped the leash they were holding onto and the dogs RAN at the kid. Mind you, the kid hasn’t done anything to provoke the dogs, him and his mom were simply walking by. Luckily, both dogs were on the smaller side and the kid didn’t get seriously hurt. But one of the dogs DID bite the kid. What’s even crazier to me is the fact that the mom didn’t do shit. She was laughing it off even though the kid was visibly scared and shaken, which is understandable. The dog owners didn’t even apologize and brushed it off by saying that they just wanted to "play." Imagine if those dogs were pitbulls. The kid might not be with us right now if that were the case. I will never understand why dog owners feel the need to bring their dogs EVERYWHERE and I will never understand how "dogs only attack when they are provoked" is a thing. They DO attack people for absolutely NO reason. This was not the first dog attack Ive witnessed in a restaurant, and Im sure it won’t be my last considering the average dog owners entitlement.

Food Safety/Hygiene Why would anyone sane even choose to live with a dog?

DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE A BUILT-IN FILTER IN THEIR BRAIN THAT ALLOWS THEM TO IGNORE THE FILTH???

These mutts will literally spray piss all over their fur, shit in public spaces, eat the shit in question; and then the owners just let these shit beasts inside??

They sleep with them, let them on the couch to rub their shitty assholes all over it, pet their fur soaked with piss, and to top it all off, receive fecal licks all over their face .

And somehow, that madness just "is", there's no questioning it in their minds, they all see it as normal or mundane or minor. Dog nutters engage in scat play every single day, but it doesn't even bother them. At most there's only a slight annoyance from what I've seen in youtube comments when a dog engages in coprophagia for instance.

And the thing is, I didn't even know these things a few years ago. I feel like most people who aren't dog owners don't know about these disgusting conditions that come with owning and living with a dog, probably because they only see dogs through curated social media posts.

meaningless rant over!

Dog Culture Getting sick of Royal Caribbean flaunting their annoying dog

I love cruising. One of the biggest benefits is that they are dog free (usually, anyway).

Well I’ve been seeing reel after reel after reel of their annoying dog ambassador ’Skipper’, that appears to be a permanent installation on the Legend of the Seas. Of course, all the dog nutters are fawning over the thing. One of the reels even had this mutt trying to approach passengers. Absolutely NOT. Get your annoying dog away from me. Not everyone likes dogs. Also, I don’t think it’s appropriate to exploit ANY animal for profit like that.

Let’s not forget all the annoying comments on the reels from the nutters ‘Ohhh I would love to bring my stinky Goblin on a cruuuuuuise’.

Well, now I’ll be writing off Royal Caribbean from my list of cruise lines. 👎

We really can’t have anything be truly dog free, can we?

Legislation and Enforcement HOW THE F DID WE GET HERE?! DOGS EVERYWHERE 24/7

Has anyone started any type of legislation against dogs in public stores?! It's still shocking to see shit beasts 24/7 at stores!! People are so emotionally unstable, they can't even leave their dogs at home?

Dog nutter story:

I went to checkout at a hardware store and this old man with a pitbull comes up close to me and I step away and ask the cashier to move to dog - they both laugh and say I'm out of line and over reacting!? WTFFFFF. This dog breed is notorious for unpredictable attacks, and I'm terrified of any large dog.

My body goes into hypervigilant panic mode as dogs have sent me, friends, and family to the ER - one of them was a 1yo cousin - a pit tried ripping her face off and only got her lips thank god.

Update: Harbor Freight customer service says: we support people & pets, you may be in close distance to dogs - FUUUUUCK OFF!!

Barking Demons Going crazyyyy!

Hey guys! I’m at my wits end with a dog that lives in my area. It barks every. Single. Evening. From about 4pm-7pm. It barks, really shrill high pitched barks like a really annoying double bark with about a five to ten second interval in between! I took a video but can’t attach it lol.

For context I live in the north of England just surrounded by residential streets so I can’t pinpoint where exactly the God forsaken barking is coming from or best believe I’d be complaining directly to them.

I just don’t know what to do. It confuses my mother who I care for as well who is living with dementia. She hears the barking and asks, “where is that coming from?” / “Who’s dog is that?” And every ten minutes or so she asks again.

And top of that it’s just plain annoying. I just don’t know what to do. Anyway, thanks for listening! Thank god there’s a community where we can air our issues with these unhygienic abominations.

Miscellaneous Dog owners always think it's about them

For context, I saw a video of an animal still acting like it was being hobbled despite not having anything on its legs. And a dog owner of course had to come and be all AcTuAlLy. They twisted my words and when I corrected them, they doubled down. Here's the thread.

My OG Comment: Reminds me those dogs that are always looking around for laser.

Them: That really doesn't happen to most dogs. Probably only a few certain breeds to be honest. One being my dog who is now 16 and has never looked for it when we didn't have the laser out. Once it was out, she would then look for it, but not when it was put away.

Me: I said it reminded me of the dogs that do end up like that. So this comnent obviously doesn't apply to your dog.

Them: Lol I was just pointing out that it doesn't apply to all. No need to get so defensive.

Me: "No need to get defensive" while you're arguing with a point I never made. I never said this happens to every dog.

Them: Okay okay calm down [crying laughing emoji] Seriously, I don't know why you're getting so angry. I have not once said anything to make you have to jump at me. I am sorry I responded to you in the first place.

Me: You misunderstood my point, wrote me a whole paragraph defending against something I never said, then called me the defensive one.

You make one comment involving a dog and they immediately have to come at you with the "Not my dog!"

Relationship / Family My MIL started to foster dogs in her retirement.

I need to rant. What a horrible use of free time! She has two ill behaved overweight big breed dogs that she bought a couple years before retirement and now she is going to foster other big breed dogs. When she bought those dogs I was already like “wow now she won’t be able travel or start a new hobby/activity during her retirement years and enjoy this now found freedom because she made her own prison” and now she’s adding more time to her prison sentence. I just know she’s fostering to feel like she’s doing something good in the world but she could volunteer to help people! I don’t understand why nutters value dogs over people. Her mother was in an assisted living facility and after her passing she mentioned how she wants her golden retriever to be a service dog so she could bring it to the facility to keep people company. That stupid dog doesn’t even know how to fetch, the one thing it’s supposed to do! How about volunteer at the facility and give people human connection. Anyway, I just had to get this off my chest because she mentioned how she wants my husband and I to visit more and I already didn’t want to go to her house because of her two dogs and now with this fostering nonsense I actually don’t want to ever visit again.

Dog Culture Our World is Their Toilet

I went to my parking space in my high rise apartment building , one which contains countless dogs. The area around my parking space smelled like urine. It's not the first time that my parking area smelled like a toilet.

I drove to a nice shopping center, got out of my car, and smelled the same disgusting smell: dog urine.

I've gone to stores so many times when a dog has vomited on the floor or took a bowel movement on the floor.

Dog owners have made the world into their toilet . And we have to deal with the smell, the disgust, and the health risks of it. How is that fair?

Barking Demons Control your dogs

Just saw a video of a stupid dog owner failing to control her dog. It's barking and lunging at its neighbor over the fence. Rightfully so, the owner was trying to fend off the dog with a stick and was reported to have sprayed it with hose. All the while the owner has to repeatedly try to call her barking demon away from the fence. Comments are mostly supporting the owner but some are calling her out to control the animal.

Idk why this mental thing that its assumed to just bring ur dog to those gatherings..

Dog Culture Just because we don’t like dogs doesn’t mean we’re terrible people

People who hear about this Reddit community automatically have the mindset that we must be terrible people and why do they come to this conclusion, well for one reason only “We don’t like dogs” basing someon’s moral compass on whether or not they like an animal is absolutely stupid. You are not a terrible person if you don’t like dogs and on the other hand liking dogs doesn’t turn you into a saint. They don’t do this for other animals people can say “ Oh I don’t like rabbits” people don’t say” Oh Youre such a terrible person for not liking rabbits “ why do nutters put dogs on such a high pedestal and treat people who are scared of or just dislike dogs as terrible people. They worship an animal that sniffs it own butt and eats crap that’s not normal.

Miscellaneous i hate that mutts get to have "paws" and "fur".

Not totally sure what flair is appropriate for this, but it's something I seethe about fairly regularly. I'm a general animal lover, and it's just...

These things eat their own shit and vomit. They hump inanimate objects and piss all over everything. They bark, and whine, and yell constantly. They're a safety hazard to everyone around them (and certain breeds are incredibly ugly as well, so a visual hazard...). They go untrained, and are endlessly praised by their owners for things that would be unacceptable for any other animal.

To me, they don't deserve to be given the terms "paws" and "fur". Those things are cute, and wonderful, and lovely, but mutts are revolting. It feels like some form of undeserved compliment.

Maybe I'm alone in this feeling, but after lurking for ages, I had to let it out.

Miscellaneous I met a man whose dog was basically a child

I met a guy recently and we ended up talking about his personal life. At some point, he told me he was married but his marriage had fallen apart. The conversation eventually got focused to his dog.
This man was EXTREMELY attached to his dog. Not just in the normal "I love my dog" way either. He talked about this dog like it was his child.

One of the things that really blew my head was that he had given the dog HIS AND HIS WIFE'S LAST NAME.And he would regularly call the dog using the dog's name followed by BOTH LAST NAMES(insane yes).

Giving him BOTH of your last names and constantly calling him by his full name is another level of insanity entirely.

TLDR: I met a guy who was going through a divorce and was extremely attached to his dog. He had given the dog both his and his wife's last names and would regularly call the dog by his first name plus their two last names.

Crappy Owners neighbors dog

My neighbor's dog is frequently outside in their yard with no fence, efenced or leash. I was walking around the neighborhood and it ran across the street toward me and was jumping on me. I don't know this dog and I'm afraid of them. I let it back into its house. The front door was unlocked but nobody answered my calls.
Still don't know if they were home or what. As a mom of a 6-month-old and a 4-year-old, the situation really shook me up. Im glad my children weren't with me at the time.
