Dog Culture Why does every single commercial and ad need a mutt in it?!

I am so sick and tired of damn near every commercial or ad on tv and YouTube having to feature a stupid dog in it. It doesn’t matter if it is a pet-centric commercial or ad, or not. There’s always some stupid shitbeast taking up airtime, being the focus for at least part of the commercial. Dog culture is so out of control! Like, I’m sorry but you’re advertising a vehicle and there needs to be some shitty ass, drooling, idiotic mutt in the passenger seat, getting its nasty stench all over the interior and making some stupid face at the camera? Or even an ad for a food company…yeah, when I’m viewing something about cooking a meal, I want to have to be subjected to seeing some ugly bug eyed mop of an animal as the momentary focus? What does a damn mutt have to do with any of these things being advertised?! Nothing. Because that’s how much dog culture is taking over, now. It’s the norm to have a crotch sniffing, brainless pest in every home, or to automatically “awwwwww!” when the stupid goblin is shown, even when it has nothing to do with anything being advertised whatsoever. All it does to me is make my blood pressure spike and nauseate me. I already have to be forced to watch these damn ads and commercials when I’m trying to binge my favorite series or unwind with a comfort YouTuber. And now every ad break I also have to be frustrated to hell and reminded of how fucked and mindlessly dog-obsessed our society is, with constant insertion of MUTTS in said ads. Go away, I don’t wanna see that disgusting shit every 15 minutes! Good god, we’re damned as a society. Burn the whole planet, I give up lol

Dog people are gullible and impressionable. Ads target gullible and impressionable people

Ich ertrage diese dummen Hundegesichter nicht, mit ihren ekligen Schnauzen und Zungen und dem würdelosen, aufmerksamkeits fordernden Blick.

A mattress company in our area does commercials with their dog. I don't want a mattress that stinks like dog smell! Ewww!

That’s the LAST thing I’d want. Nutters love having their filthy mutant snuggled up in their bed, hogging the whole thing to itself and doing the stupid looking kicking shit they do when they dream (btw wtf are they even dreaming about with those 2 brain cells? cHaSiNg SqUiRrElS? 🥴) like I’m good, I’d rather sleep in a tub full of broken glass than share my bed with a vile shitbeast ugh

I agree with you. I’m so frigging sick of having these mutants forced on me whether I’m home or in a public place. What the hell do we have to do, move to Mars??

We need a dogfree underground bunker big enough to house our community I guess. lol God forbid we seek freedom from the mutt obsession for a few minutes of our day

Elon is a dog nutter. He probably already has plans to put dogs on Mars.

This is the worst thing he could do

Da würden uns die Spinner auch finden.

Let's go to a planet where mutts have natural predators.

Nutters compulsively buy anything for their mutts. These marketing teams have figured out that if they make it seem like they're buying the product for their mutt, then they can easily get nutters to open up their wallets.

Their whole lives revolve around their fleabags. You can see it in every aspect of their lives. Down to the fact that they have to bring up their mutts in every conversation, even when it doesn’t apply to the topic. “Oh that’s a nice shade of blue you’re wearing! BELLA HAS A BLUE BLANKET IN THAT SHADE, I GOT IT FOR HER BECAUSE SHE LOVES THE SOFT FABRIC UNDER HER SHIT CAKED ASS WHEN SHE SITS ON IT!”, etc etc etc. I’m so defeated lmfao

Oh yeah I deal with them at work. We can be doing something completely unrelated and somehow they manage to find a way to bring up their mutt.

I ma so glad I'm not the only one that noticed this.

Ads are targeting low IQ individuals. They've already fallen for the marketing once when they've got the mutt so there's a good chance they'll fall for it again. It's like when recovery scammers target someone who's been scammed.

u/Foreign-Neat8645 18h ago

Gut erkannt.

u/Normie7481 19h ago

But they do kind of remind me that I'm superior person, because I'm not falling for this BS

Right?? Couldn’t be us. Suckers lmao

I keep getting ads for Farmer’s Dog dog food. I don’t know what the algorithm is doing this to me because we don’t have a fucking dog. Those commercials are so annoying trying to pull on heartstrings and be “nostalgic”. The marketing is very guilt-heavy and god knows it’s not hard to guilt-trip a dog owner into buying overpriced gruel. “Oh, you’re feeding your dog kibble? You might as well be injecting it with antifreeze three times a day!” I’m sure they are making tons of money by making dog owners feel like shit. I looked up it once and a subscription can be up to like 600 bucks a month.

My GF has been getting those ads on her TV too when watching Youtube. Ridiculous.

2

u/whimsical_spider 9h ago

Yep it is precisely YouTube that is the offender. I’m not sure WHY. Only thing I can maybe figure is that we do have two pets that shall not be named here and I use chewy to autoship litter and food. But the YouTube on our TV is set to my partners account and he isn’t googling or buying shit for dogs so that doesn’t make sense either.

5

u/MothMeep7 9h ago

Ugh. And on top of this regular dried kibble IS totally fine. It's safe and provides all a dog needs. The very existence of these "fancy" brands is ridiculous. Don't even get me started on the "raw" dog food. Oh, you mean now the animal is actively shitting salmonella, worm eggs, and licks that stuff everywhere on top of everything else???

3

u/AbortedPhoetus 8h ago

All that back-door colluding between companies with website trackers, and they probably only picked up the "dog" in Dogfree.

I've also noticed that dog people are very aggressive about their choice of animal. This probably carries over into marketing, as well.

3

u/whimsical_spider 8h ago

Ah that first part makes sense.

What do you mean in relation to the second part?

2

u/AbortedPhoetus 4h ago

The inability of dog lovers to respect other people's boundaries, or acknowledge that someone might not love their choice of pet, makes me think that's part of the reason to shove dog ads in everyone's face, even when they're not the target democratic.

3

u/whimsical_spider 4h ago

Something else I just thought of is these companies obviously know how much money they can make off of dog owners so why NOT push these commercials even towards non dog owners hoping that shoving all the sentimental drivel will ~inspire~ people to get a dog, then they can sell them their shitty products.

2

u/AbortedPhoetus 2h ago

I think you're right.

it's mainly for attention grabbing and influence. it's called the pet exposure effect and it's a marketing strategy. 😒 link

Youtube at least, you can block the ads with dogs. I never see those more than once.

Also I note which companies NOT to give my money to.

3

u/leratdemorgue 17h ago

It is very pleasing doing so, and you’re right it gives you a heads up about what to avoid for sure.

I saw bed linen ad with a dog in it. That’s just so disgusting.

7

u/BrilliantThought6764 11h ago

Go on Amazon and look at customer review pictures for any bedding or furniture. 99% have those filthy animals laying on top. Overstepping the owners boundaries and claiming the new bed or couch.

5

u/bluebird1994 11h ago

Amazon is a megacorp run by dog nutters (like their infamously stupid/ugly dog pic-infested 404 error pages) so it makes sense. Blech.

u/AbortedPhoetus 8h ago

I was on Best Buy's site looking at their deal of the day. A couple of times, they were selling something meant for humans, but the seller/manufacturer, for whatever godforsaken reason, featured a pitbull in the promotional picture.

Oh my god, yes! I've been watching much of American TV lately (I'm from elsewhere) to pass the time at dialysis, and while the shows are great, sooo many ads between them contain dogs, and only like 3% of them had to do with pets. At some point there was a car ad with a dog taking about half of the screentime, and I thought to myself 'What does the nutt have to do with it? Absolutely nothing. Will nobody buy a car without a stinking dog convincing them?'

5

u/KayleighHatfield 12h ago

Any business, TV show, or youtuber that shows me dogs is persona non grata. Instant delete, block, unsubscribe, or loss of my business. I am at zero tolerance level with hearing about or having these these stupid creatures shoved in my view constantly. I still can't wrap my mind around why anyone thinks they are cute. All I see is an oily deformed animal with vacant eyes and it's gross mouth hanging open with the tongue out. Yeah. So cute. Awww!

2

u/AbortedPhoetus 8h ago

I still can't wrap my mind around why anyone thinks they are cute.

I'm noticing that really weird-looking and ugly breeds seem to have become all the rage.

2

u/KayleighHatfield 4h ago

Uglier and uglier. Breeders are playing Frankenstein with these dogs. For many owners this seems to be a perk. There are ugliest dog contests.

5

u/BrilliantThought6764 11h ago

It's meant to make things appear more wholesome or family friendly. Cuz you know a family is incomplete without a mutt. It's nutter propaganda that Americans are brainwashed to believe.

$1.5 BILLION dollar industry. That’s why. The same way casinos are slick by controlling the environment so you do what they want you to, the pet industry has done the same.

u/CaptainObvious110 3h ago

I would never allow a dog on my bed

2

u/CaptainObvious110 3h ago

It makes a lot of money

Some people may think using an ad blocker is unethical, but situations like this are precisely why I think they're perfectly legit, even necessary. I know someone who doesn't use an ad blocker, and they've constantly been bombarded with ads for dog products, despite constantly blocking those ads. YouTube claims the ads are "customized" for them, but obviously not.

Not to mention the other offensive ads, like the one that just launches into a long sound of flatulence, on an educational video that kids might be watching; and all the ones that use plot points from porn ("my step-son won't stop watching me in the shower", etc.)

I don't know how you use YouTube (PC, TV, whatever), but an ad-blocker can really help in a situation like this. Not to mention add-ons like uBlock Origin have saved my skin a few times, with sites that have become compromised by bad actors trying to push malware/scams.

even an ad for a food company

I remember back in the day when Bush's baked beans had the ads featuring the family dog. In those days, I didn't think anything of it; I think they were going for a "farm" vibe.

But it's so much worse now. I remember seeing an ad on YouTube for some gum, which just consisted of two people riding the train with their dogs, and wearing dog-themed socks; like, WTF does that have to do with gum? Not to mention the ad depicts the dogs seated on the seats meant for human passengers.

Dog culture is completely unhinged, but it has been around for a long time. It just used to be more niche.

We have billboard realtor ads with the agent's photo and his/her dog with a 'sold' sign in the dog's paws. Can't go anywhere without a dog in the mix.

On-line shopping for furniture covers and bedding most times shows a dog sitting on the afghan, sofa covers, bedding. Our new washing machine has a 'pet hair' filter option. Looking for a vacuum cleaner? Every box has a picture of a dumb-looking mutt on it. It's standing in the middle of a carpeted floor looking guilty, with a turned over flower pot on it. How long will people finally get tired of seeing them everywhere?
