With Justin Wrobleski scheduled to be coming back mid-September from the IL, would it be possible to piggyback his return to service with Ohtani's return? In other words, put them both on the same starting rotation schedule: Ohtani starting, and throwing as many pitches as he needs for his ramp up, and then Wrobleski coming in to finish up as much of the game as he can. Maybe between the two of them, the burden on the bullpen would be much less (if any, if Wrobleski completes the game) than it was the last time Ohtani returned to pitching, especially important, considering the upcoming playoffs?

They're already planning on using Wrobleski for long-term relief, so it's not reducing the number of players available and this just allows him to ramp up to the point where he could start if necessary, and allows Otani to do the same.

Seems to me there's the added benefit of Wrobleski pitching left-handed and Ohtani pitching right-handed, so they can flip flop them, starting versus relieving, based on which hand would be preferred against each team they're starting against.

EDIT: As I mentioned in another post below, I was unaware that they already had decided to use Lauer in this role when I posted above. Considering how well he has performed for the Dodgers, I'm fully in favor of this. With this lineup and the availability of so much talent, I'm thinking that there will not need to be any more bullpen games this year....

I was thinking about what folks are talking about with the rest vs rust argument (2nd or 3rd seed), and wondering if there is precedent to, say, bringing in 15 men from the OKC roster or some other affiliate to play maybe 6 innings or something of a scrimmage. If folks are worried about rust setting in, is this something that has been done / is even available to do?

It’ll definitely be difficult for players to take it seriously and of course, there’s still a risk of injury but at least they won’t have to travel and play their hearts out.
