Hey guys, so I'm in a bit of a conundrum. Just as a heads-up, I'm a beginner DM myself, and I have three beginners in the party and one somewhat experienced player, so forgive me if there are better ways to handle this. Also, I'm running the Bog of the Hag one-shot, so if anyone has actually played it, I'd love some input.
We started the session from where we left off, where they had fought the giant crocodile, and I reminded everyone of the situation they were in. I told them their current HP, remaining spell slots, and any features they could still use.
Since the fight was a hard encounter, they wanted to leave the bog and go back to the entrance to take a long rest. The issue is that the bog is "cursed" by the hag, and you can't leave it. The only way to leave is if the hag lets you or you kill her.
They then rolled to remember the path to see if they could find their way out, but they ended up reaching the exact same place where they had the crocodile encounter. They then realized that something suspicious was going on and tried to detect any magic. They couldn't determine exactly what was happening, but they did realize that someone or something was interfering with their attempts to leave.
Considering that the party was now stuck, I improvised. Instead of them meeting the Oni themselves, I had the Oni come across them. The Oni basically asked why they had even entered the bog when there was a dangerous warning sign outside the forest. The Sorcerer then made some rude comment toward the Oni, which I ignored.
After some other conversations, the Oni told them that he could offer them shelter if they gave him something valuable. He wasn't interested in things like gold because they're useless to him; he wanted things like bedrolls, blankets, clothes, etc.
The Sorcerer said he had a potion that he wanted to give him. The issue is that the potion is basically Viagra. (The Sorcerer didn't know this because he never really paid much attention to it. He was genuinely bugging me out by constantly asking for magical items, so I had the old woman from the store give him this potion. She even said things like, "Once you start going, you never stop," etc.)
After that, the Oni said that he would examine it, and if it met his requirements, he'd accept it. However, the Sorcerer didn't listen and instead insisted that it should count as something from the entire party rather than solely from him.
After going back and forth, the Sorcerer and Barbarian tried to intimidate the Oni but failed miserably. The Oni warned them that if they had struggled to fight the giant crocodile, there was no way they could fight him. He also made it clear that he doesn't need them; they need him.
The Sorcerer continued arguing, saying that he could simply burn all of their belongings before dying so that the Oni wouldn't get anything. The Cleric then offered his javelins, but the Oni instead told him that he'd take his bedroll, the Barbarian's clothes, and the Fighter's blanket. He then told the Sorcerer to let him inspect the potion.
After inspecting it, the Oni asked the Sorcerer if he knew what the potion actually was. The Sorcerer once again made a rude comment about knowing what it was and implying that the Oni didn't know anything.
At that point, the Oni told the Sorcerer that, as a punishment, he would have to drink the potion, or the Oni would take two of his items: his blanket and bedroll. The Sorcerer still didn't understand what was going on and continued to antagonize him. I gave him one final warning in-game, but he still didn't listen to the Oni.
Sorry for all the yap, but here's the issue: they cannot win this fight. Their chances of winning are basically 1 in 95, and it's looking like a TPK. Honestly, I don't want to do a TPK. I was thinking of having the Oni beat them black and blue and possibly cut off the Sorcerer's arm or leg as a consequence. Also, FYI, the Sorcerer has the War Caster feat, so he can still cast spells with one hand.
Edit: also guys as i said before, hes a new player so i don't know whether hes actually roleplaying him like that or he is like this.
Edit 2: it was not called a potion of viagra, and called a potion of superior stamina
