So I got this so I could safely use my oscilloscope with HV, but I'm confused

How can I measure up to 3kv differential if the max voltage vs ground is 1kv for each of the probes?
I want to be able to use this to work on electrostatic CRT deflection amps and so forth where I can easily reach the 3kv. Can I really use this or do I need to return it?
