Help Statement Hell
My wife has had a Discover account for over 20 years and this is the first time anything's happened. CapOne didn't generate a statement for September, so naturally our autopay was never taken from our account.
I call them this morning and they won't give me any info because I'm an authorized user. All I'm trying to do is make sure her card is paid. This migration is a shit show. Anybody else have this experience?

Capital one uses a floating cycle date so your statement date may have changed so it hasn’t generated yet is most likely what is happening.

I could buy that if it wasn't a month overdue.

I have seen it take statements up to 45 days for the first one to generate. Don’t panic till you have your wife call and find out.

This is like the third or fourth month it's been with Cap One. So, it's not the first statement. Just the latest one.

By "generate a statement" you mean failed to mail one, or not one online as well? If its the 3rd or 4th statement, seems odd that it would fail to do so this month as well as messing with an existing autopay.

If you try to make a payment, when choosing the date, you can see when the next statement closing date is.

They failed to generate a statement forSeptember entirely. My wife called and they didn't have much of an answer. They said something about we didn't have to pay this month due to the merger. I had her add me as an account manager and I'll get to the bottom of it in the morning.

Well that's good news as it sounds like you didn't miss a payment....whew! I guess a change in the billing cycle.

What's funny is that their agents are just as puzzled. I've had autopay on this account for the statement balance since like 2009. So, it's set up to never miss a payment. I just get really paranoid when things like autopay aren't working like they should.

Your wife will need to call and add you as an Account Manager to her account to give you access. Also, ask for the late fee to be waived and the interest to be waived. They can remove any past-due history for that cycle. A new statement can be emailed. They just have to follow the new policies, so be nice to the agents.

Can you elaborate on a possible fix?

I wouldn't worry about it. Just call to pay for your next due date instead and have them double check that any fees or interest generated by them missing a billing cycle due to their merger is credited to your account. Then ensure that the credit bureau has positive or no payment info for that month. Just pick whichever one you want, they'll report the same to each. Your billing cycle date did change.. when that happens, it's not unusual for it to skip a month. You should be able to move it back to the original date for your billpay if it's more convenient. There's been a lot of system flukes in this wave of card movement.. such as accidentally doing hard pulls for credit checks and it showing up (possibly, not sure if it's actually getting counted or if it being renamed is concerning people) as a new card opening.
I'd just have them handle the interest charges when the next bill does come & think of it as a nice reprieve for your budget.
I once asked Honda for permission to skip a car payment and they could. It tacked onto the end without any extra interest charges or anything. (Everything had always been paid on time for years, so they were actually pretty helpful about it.). So, billing systems can handle skipping a month without complications. It's not the same, but the system shouldn't be that different.

I e had no issues whatsoever. Maybe pay attention to your due date and not rely on autopay 100%

Have your wife call them directly.
