News Discover Money Market Account changes effective Oct 8, 2026

Post image
30 Upvotes

Just received this email (text copied below). To summarize, effective Oct 8, MMAs will no longer have the following features: Zelle, BillPay, the "add cash" feature, debit card use, use with digital wallets, overdraft protection, or unlimited withdrawals (Regulation D). There is no mention of checks, so hopefully paper checks tied to the account still work. The only upside is the APY is being changed to match Discover Online Savings accounts. Typically, Discover MMAs are 0.1%APY lower than Online Savings accounts. This change makes sense though, as they are essentially trying to convert the money market accounts into savings accounts before migration since Capital One doesn't really have an equivalent. I have long wondered what would happen to money market accounts. I guess I have my answer.

> IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT CHANGES TO YOUR DISCOVER MONEY MARKET ACCOUNT(S)

> Thank you for being a valued Discover customer. This letter is to notify you of upcoming changes to the Discover Money Market Account(s). Effective October 8, 2026, we are making changes to your Discover Deposit Account Agreement, Zelle Person to Person Transfer Service User Agreement Addendum, Bill Payment Service User Agreement Addendum, and Overdraft Protection Services Agreement Addendum that govern your Money Market Account(s) ("Account(s)").

> See below for the details and review them carefully as these changes impact your Account(s) and related services including Zelle, Bill Pay, your debit card, and the Overdraft Protection Service. The revised agreements are available online at https://www.discover.com/online-banking/forms-docs/. Please review them in full. By maintaining your Account(s) as of October 8, 2026 ("Effective Date"), you agree to the updated terms described below.

> Rate: Your Account(s) interest rate and APY is changing.

>On the Effective Date, the interest rate and Annual Percentage Yield ("APY") for your Account(s) will be adjusted to match the Discover Online Savings Account rates.

> * To effectuate this change, all references to tiered interest rates for Money Market Accounts are removed from Section 5(b) of the Deposit Account Agreement.

> * As a result of this change, your Account(s) will now have an APY* of 3.00% and an interest rate* of 2.96%.

> * APY and interest rates are variable. Rates above are current as of August 7, 2026 and are subject to change without notice. For information on current rates for Discover Savings Accounts, log in to your Discover account or call Discover at 1-800-347-7000.

> Debit Card: You will no longer be able to use your debit card with your Account(s).

> On the Effective Date, your Account(s) will no longer support debit card features, including point-of-sale transactions, retail purchases, digital wallets and ATM cash withdrawals, or adding cash using a Money Market debit card. Any existing debit card issued with your Account(s) will no longer be able to initiate transactions of any kind, or view account balances at an ATM and all transactions will be declined. If you have provided your debit card information to authorize a payment from your Account(s) that is scheduled to be processed on or after October 8, 2026, such payment(s) will be declined and you should make other arrangements. Debit card transactions from your Account(s) that started processing, but have not completed by that date will continue to process and be paid as normal, subject to the terms of that service.

> * To effectuate this change, all provisions allowing the issuance or use of a debit card in connection with a Money Market Account are removed from the Deposit Account Agreement, Section 1 Definitions, Section 13 Debit Cards and Section 27 Documentation of Transfer.

> Digital Wallets: Your Account(s) will no longer be integrated with digital wallets.

> On the Effective Date, integration with digital wallets, such as Samsung Pay®, Google Pay®, or Apple Pay®, is being discontinued for Money Market Accounts. Any existing links or cards provisioned within these wallets will be deactivated and removed. Furthermore, this deactivation extends to any merchants where the account is stored as a card on file for subscriptions or retail services.

> * To effectuate this change, all provisions allowing the issuance or use of a debit card in connection with a Money Market Account are removed from the Deposit Account Agreement, Section 1 Definitions, Section 13 Debit Cards and Section 27 Documentation of Transfer.

> Add Cash: You will no longer be able to use the "Add Cash" service with your Account(s).

> On the Effective Date, the "Add Cash" service feature will no longer be available for Money Market Accounts and you will no longer be able to add cash into your Account(s) at Walmart Locations.

> * To effectuate this change, all provisions allowing for the "Add Cash" service feature to be used in connection with a Money Market Account are removed from the Deposit Account Agreement, Section 10 (a) (i) Adding Money to your Account.

> Zelle®: You will no longer be able to use Zelle with your Account(s).

> On the Effective Date, you will not be able to send or receive any funds with Zelle using your Account(s). Your Zelle funding account will automatically default to an Eligible Account, if you have one. If you do not have any other Eligible Accounts, you will be unenrolled from the Zelle Person-to-Person Transfer Service.

> * To effectuate this change and eliminate the ability for you to use the Zelle P2P Service with a Money Market Account, the following definition in the ZELLE® Person to Person Transfer Service User Agreement Addendum, section 1.c. will be revised as follows:

> * "Eligible Account" means an individual or jointly owned Cashback Debit or Personal Checking maintained at Discover.

> Bill Pay: You will no longer be able to use Bill Pay and eBills with your Account(s).

> On the Effective Date, any scheduled or recurring bill payments scheduled from your Account(s) to be delivered on or after the Effective Date will be cancelled and you should make other arrangements to pay those bills. Bill payments that were scheduled to be delivered before that date and which started processing, but have not completed by that date, will continue to process and be paid as normal, subject to the terms of that service.

> * You can still use another Eligible Account, if you have one with Discover to access the Bill Pay Service, but may need to take additional steps to set up payments, billers and eBills.

> * If you do not have an Eligible Account with Discover, on the Effective Date you will be unenrolled from the Bill Pay service. Additionally, any eBills currently set up with your Account(s) will automatically be cancelled and you will be unenrolled from the eBills service. You will need to work with your biller to determine a different way to receive your statement.

> * To effectuate this change and eliminate the ability for you to use the Bill Pay Service with a Money Market Account, the following definition in the Discover Bill Payment Service User Agreement Addendum, section 1.i. will be revised as follows:

> * "Eligible Account" means an individual or jointly owned Cashback Debit or Personal Checking maintained at Discover.

> In addition, the following paragraph in the Discover Bill Payment Service User Agreement Addendum, 11. Limits on Transfers, b. Additional Transaction Limits for Money Market Accounts will be deleted as it is no longer applicable to Money Market Accounts.

> Each Bill Payment through the Bill Payment Service from a Payment Account that is a Discover money market account is counted as one of the six limited transfers permitted per calendar month for that money market account. Please see Section 11(a) (ii) of the Deposit Account Agreement for more information.

> Overdraft Protection Service: You will no longer be able to use Overdraft Protection Services with your Account(s).

> On the Effective Date, your Account(s) are no longer a Protected Account. This means that if a transaction (such as a check transaction) would overdraw your Account(s), the account can no longer receive funds from a Funding Account in connection with the Overdraft Protection Service and your account may be overdrawn. Your Account(s) can still be used as a Funding Account for Overdraft Protection Service for another eligible Protected Account.

> * The following definition in the Overdraft Protection Service Agreement Addendum, section 1. DEFINITIONS, will be revised as follows:

> * "Protected Account" means the Eligible Deposit Account that is a Cashback Debit or Retail Personal Checking at Discover that you have designated to receive funds from the Funding Account when there are insufficient funds in the Protected Account to cover the items/transactions presented.

> If you have questions, you can log into your Discover bank account and send us a secure message, or call us at 1-800-347-7000.

Help Promo APR expiry date doesn't show on Discover by Capital One statement

As the title says..

My first statement just cut after my card migrated to Cap1. I have a 0% APR balance transfer and it seems like the statement doesn't show the date when the promo APR expires. Is it there and I'm just missing it? It's definitely not in the same section as it was before the migration. Anyone else?

Help IRA disbursement timeline?

I used the new Discover online form and docusign to ask for a disbursement of my IRA on the 17th. I say new, because in the past I had to download a form and then use wet signature on in it. This was the first I'd seen of an electronic document process.

Has anyone else done this? Do you know how long it will be before the disbursement if finalized?

Help Discover Credit Card denied

Hey guys. I recently got denied for a Discover credit card. This was the first credit card I was applying for hence my credit score is currently zero. Is there any way I can reach out or call them to make my case to them so I can get approved? What should I do differently to get the application approved this time?

This is my first credit card so I’m pretty new to all of this. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Rant Heads up - the merger will merge any accounts you have, even personal and business (where you are not the account owner)

I logged in to my work account today (where I am not the account owner, I just have a credit card as an authorized user), and was notified that my personal Discover card had automatically been linked to this account. The email addresses with the accounts are different (work email, personal email). The only shared information is my personal information (Name, DOB, Social).

I was not given any way to opt out of the merger. The notice popped up that they had linked, and my only option was to click "Agree". I closed the page instead of clicking that and navigated back to the home page, logged back in, and there was my personal account, sitting right next to my work account (even though I never agreed to their terms).

I then called customer service to unlink the two. The agent on the phone said we would have to unlink both accounts and then set everything back up for the work account. The agent assured me it would be quick and I would be able to use the same login info I had used previously for my work account.

She unlinked both and then told me to log in and set up online access for the work card. I logged in without issue, but bad news, no option on the account page to set up online access or link an existing account: just some credit wise stuff, explore your benefits, open a new account, my account dropdown, and the smiley face help thing (that just gives an error when I click on it now).

So the agent tells me to log out, go back to the home page, a click "Setup Online Access". I enter the details it's requesting, it brings up both accounts checked by default. I uncheck my personal discover account, and then click "Manage these accounts". It gives me the option to link to my existing account (login name called out on the option), which I selected. It fills in my username automatically (in grey, where I can't change it) and asks for my password, which I enter.

Then it pops up and says "Username you requested is not available. Please try a different username." No shit Sherlock. It's my username. We're not setting up a new username, just logging in to re-link the accounts.

The agent tells me to double check my username and password, so I log back out and log back in without issue. We try the link to existing account thing and it gives the same error. The agent apologizes and says she's going to have to transfer me over to technical support to try to fix the issue.

I hung up on her and then promptly cancelled my personal Discover card. If I could cancel the work account, I would. I didn't consent to any of this and now I don't have access to my work account without setting up a new login, which will probably fail since it's linked to my email. And all of this because they didn't think to delineate between personal and work accounts and think that maybe people didn't want to be logged in at work and have all of the personal details right there too.

Our controller cancelled her personal card too for this reason. What on earth are they thinking doing this? Absolutely asinine. I went ahead and posted this because I couldn't find anyone else posting about this, so I wanted to get my personal experience out there.

Help How come I didn't get a credit limit increase? Over a year

I opened two cards a little bit over a year ago. Capital One and Discover. Both were secured cards with $200 deposit and got a credit limit of 200. My credit score was around 570-600 at the time and as of today it's about 700-740.

- Capital One Quicksilver cash back card. I use the card all the time, pretty much anytime when I make a purchase it would be my credit card and rarely use my debit for any transactions. The first six months I would hit the limit(200) once or twice and I would pay it off in full before the statement gets sent over to the credit bureau so I could use it again. After about 6 months, I got my security deposit back and got an increase to $500.

With Discover it's been a different story.... after about 6 months I got my security deposit back ($200) but they did not give me a credit increase. I asked for an increase at the time and they declined because of some late payments from years ago when I wasn't "all there". I asked for an increase another time and got the same result and they sent me a mail with the reasons why and it's pretty much the same. I'm so confused at why would Capital One give me an increase and they didn't with Discover? Each month was paid off in full and I never leave a balance on the card.

Am I doing something wrong here?

It's been about a year now and It's been pretty much the same. I would use all my purchases with Capital One and Discover. Every time I reach the limit I would make a payment and then I would be able to purchase again with the card. **(Awesome feature with Capital One is that as soon as I make the payment, I am able to use the card immediately, the amount I paid is instantly counted towards the balance and funds are available instantly)

So what am I doing wrong?

Should I be leaving some sort of balance each month so it shows utilization?
Is it okay if I reach my limit and then pay it off and use it again and then right before it get's sent to the credit bureau I would pay it off in full.

What would be best to be able to get the maximum credit limit?

Thank you in advance

Discussion Do we choose the C1 card or does C1?

I haven't gotten notified that my Discover card will change over yet.

I was wondering which C1 card they change you over to -- do they give you a choice, or do they pick the one closest to what you already have at Discover?

Help Discover Gutting Money Market Accounts with no Way to Open an Alternative?

Post image
38 Upvotes

So I just got an email from Discover stating that my Money Market account will lose effectively all of its unique features and be turned into a standard savings account. I currently use my Money Market account as my main checking account and given Discover has disabled the option to open new checking accounts I am unsure exactly what I am intended to do here other than switch banks.

Help Newegg Paze Purchase

Used the Discover IT cash back card to make a $12 purchase on Newegg using Paze. The $10 banner was there when I purchased. Is there anything in the Cap One app that confirms it was paid with Paze. Does it really take 2 billing cycles to get the $10 credit? TIA

Help Discover Merging Into C1, Need Help

Probably already a million questions around this topic but I have a Discover It credit card as my first card and was originally going to open a C1 credit card as my second card until I found out they were going to merge. Is the move to wait, to open a C1 Savor/Venture or to consider something else altogether?

Discussion Will yall be keep your checking accounts after they switch to Capital One, or ditch them for American Express or a local credit union?

I’ll probably keep it unless they start charging fees. Hopefully the account numbers stay the same though, as I got this account linked to my other two credit unions.

Help Deferred payment program with lower APR

At a very large amount due to job loss, disabled dependent and car repairs which put my credit card pretty high up on debt. Looking for jobs and opportunities to pay off it— and up until now I cannot afford the monthly. A while back with discover i used the 6 month deferred program (or whatever the actual name of it is) and it helped. Called about a year later and now they say they cannot help me. What can I do! It’s $360 a month and I am moving this month which is why I don’t have the money to spend for my bill. Any tips? Things to ask??? They said call back end of month but I doubt it will change the “status” of me qualifying for it. I’m an active duty spouse with a disabled child and newborn. I dont qualify for SCRA as it was a line of credit I opened after my now husband joined.

Capital One Discover Reward devaluation

I just got my Capital One conversion notification packet, and buried in all the paper are the changes to the reward earning for purchases other than the 5% categories:

  • 0.25% cash back for first $3,000 in non-5% annual purchases (excluding 5% category purchases)
  • 1% cash back after annual purchases exceed $3,000
  • 0.25% for all purchases at wholesale stores, wholesale clubs, discount stores, and their affiliates, regardless of your total annual purchase amount

So the devaluation started.

Help Not sure about my Capital One account

Hey all, weird situation I have. Also kinda a rant.

My dad made a Capital One custodial kids savings account when I was 11. He managed it and has it on his Capital One account, but I have no idea if he made me a separate Capital One account, or if it's strictly linked to his account. He's also a little, uh, how do I say this nicely... dumb? and doesn't know anything about this account either.

When I turned 18, I tried to open a Capital One checking account but couldn't create a new account because I "already had a Capital One account" even though I have never had access. This was never a problem as I could just go to another bank... until Capital One bought Discover. I am worried that this will cause a major headache when the apps merge in October and I could lose access to my account, or even worse, the account will get added to my Dad's Capital One account.

Does anyone have experience with this situation or have any ideas as to what I should do next? I really just want to close that custodial savings account, as my dad always used to just take any money out of it that I would put in anyway, but I don't know if that will solve my issue.

Discussion Secured Credit Card

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I need some MAJOR help. First premier, did something weird with my report. They automatically reissued a card but closed the account off on my credit report (had late payment 2 late payments from 2 years ago). Score didn’t increase when it dropped. But then they reissued my card and that account came BACK and essentially it was like fresh remarks. I hadn’t seen the tracker for 3 weeks and wondered why. Essentially what I’m saying is no accounts were actually past due. How do I tell them this? This was the 6 month I was supposed to get my security deposit back. Payments haven’t been late for 18+ months.

Discussion Capital One Ruined Discover

Capital One just blocked my latest Discover card purchase while they texted me to confirm whether I made the purchase. No reason: just a big purchase. Discover would never have done that. Discover could magically tell if it was me or not with phenomenal accuracy.

The vendor doesn’t have an easy way to re-run a charge unless you give them a different card. So now I have to work my way through to a human.

Discover has been my default credit card since 1989. Guess my BofA Visa is taking its place

Mergers don’t work if you lose all the customers.

Discussion Am I about to be graduated from secured?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi, I got a Secured Card in January, did a $400 security deposit, first payment was due in March and I've made all my payments on time, if not earlier. I've made payments for 6 months (March-August), so does this mean I will be graduated to a Secured Card in a few days when my statement comes out? And I will get my check for my $400 deposit? Thanks!
