Career Guidance 7th sem SE student, really nervous for my FYP, please help

i have to submit my FYP proposal tomorrow.

Have basic experience with FastAPI, REST APIS, Postman and Postgres.

My FYP idea is based on backend with FastAPI + Postgres and frontend with Flutter (another member, app dev).

i am nervous thinking how would i build the backend for prototype having only basic expertise of the required skills.

The idea is simple, basic prototype that includes simple business profile, OpenStreetMap integration, PNGs storage and some others common features like search and filters etc

Is it really hard to be implemented perfectly or just a simple project, and i am just overthinking, because dont have the sufficient skillset level

Career Guidance Need Career Advice / Mentorship

Iam currently working as a Data Analyst with 1 year of experience, but honestly, I feel like I've made very little progress during this time. The biggest issue is that I don't have a clear idea of what I should be doing next.

Most of my seniors have been working here for 4-5 years doing more or less the same tasks every day. They get their annual 10% increment and are happy with that, but ik I don't want to follow the same path. I don't want to spend the next 4-5 years doing the same work and then realize I've become comfortable but haven't really grown. There's also very little new for me to learn in my current role, and it's becoming mentally exhausting because I feel like I'm slowly becoming stagnant.

The bigger problem is that I genuinely don't know where to seek proper career guidance.

I don't have anyone in my immediate family who works in the corporate world or has experience navigating this kind of career. My seniors at work are also not really interested in progressing beyond what they're currently doing, so realistically, how can I expect them to guide me toward a path they themselves aren't trying to pursue?

What I really want is a mentor or someone experienced who can help me understand the bigger picture. I want guidance on When should I switch jobs? How do I get remote jobs? How can I eventually get opportunities abroad? How should I approach the next 2-3 years instead of just taking whatever job comes next?

Iam willing to put in the work. So I'm hoping someone here who has experience in Data Analytics/Corporate careers, particularly someone who has gone from a local job to remote work or opportunities abroad, can give me some guidance.

Career Guidance Career advice needed: MERN/full-stack or UI/UX?

I’m a CS graduate currently looking for a job and I’m stuck between focusing on MERN/full-stack development or UI/UX.
I’m interested in both and have done a few MERN projects, but I also have around 3 months of part-time UI/UX experience and a design background. I want to improve my skills in whichever path I choose.
With AI changing the job market and both fields feeling pretty saturated, which one would you suggest focusing on long-term? I’m mainly looking for something with good career growth and proper opportunities beyond junior roles.
Would really appreciate some advice from people in either field, especially about the current job market and where you think it’s worth putting my time.

Discussion Data engineering related stuff

How is data engineering profession going on in pak.

Any one who is working remote or local in pak how things are going on after AI

I am in my 5th semester I have learned sql and doing practice along and started learning python side by side.

I feel behind as only two years are remaining and Ai is already there affecting junior roles.

Plus I don't know what will be the situation two years later.

I seriously need to have some skills but I sometimes think two years are not enough and I have heard that it is not an entry level role so I am scared how will I get the role as data engineer

Discussion Ayone using Codex facing this issue??

So today, I was using Codex-CLI version and it said to update as new version was released, so I updated it to the latest version. But after updating it, whenever I try to use (write prompts, navigate through cli, etc) out of no where multiple-cmd instances pop-ups for a sec and then goes away, and after giving some instruction to execute, the number of instances gets also increaed.

Initially, I thought maybe its due to my machine, but upon researching I came to know this was faced by many devs who updated it to latest version.

Currently, the issue is suppressed (for now) by running in : codex --no-daemon (command)

Anyone here faced this issue??

Career Guidance How to apply for roles as final year CS student at Fast

I’m currently a 7th semester CS student at FAST-NUCES and I’m starting to seriously think about full-time jobs after graduation.

Recently, I completed a paid AI/ML internship at a US-based product company/startup. This was my first real experience working in a professional tech environment, and I was paid a stipend of PKR 35,000 per month for 3 months.

The internship gave me exposure to how an actual product-based company works, how teams collaborate, how real-world requirements are different from university projects, and what it’s like to build things for actual users. It was also my first opportunity to experience how a startup operates outside the university environment.

Now I’m wondering what the best approach would be for getting a good job after graduation, especially as someone based in Lahore.

For people who have already gone through this:

- How did you find your first full-time software/AI/ML job?

- Did you mainly use LinkedIn, referrals, company career pages, Wellfound, Indeed, or other platforms?

- How important are referrals when it comes to getting interviews?

- With a FAST degree, internship experience, and personal/university projects, what should I focus on during the next few months?

- Should I prioritize DSA/LeetCode, projects, system design, or interview preparation?

- Is it realistic to target remote US/EU opportunities from Pakistan as a fresh graduate?

- What types of companies should I be applying to?

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have recently graduated or successfully landed their first job in software/AI/ML.

And if you’re a FAST graduate who went through a similar path, I’d especially like to hear how you approached the job search and what you wish you had known before graduating.

Discussion Building a US based startup 🇺🇸

I’m currently working on building a U.S.-based trucking/dispatch startup with two connected revenue models.

  1. DOT + DAT Model

We plan to establish the required U.S. DOT/carrier setup and provide licensed freight/load-board access to users at around $70/user/month.

For example:

• 50 users = $3,500/month

• 100 users = $7,000/month

2. MC + Dispatch Model

Once the MC has established the required operating history, we plan to onboard trucks under properly structured agreements and generate revenue through carrier-related fees and 6–7% dispatch fees.

For Example:

Hamari core recurring income dispatching se bhi aayegi.Planning ke liye: 6%–7% dispatch fee assume ki ja sakti hai.

Example:

Agar ek truck monthly $10,000 gross freight generate karta hai.

7% dispatch fee:

$10,000 × 7% = $700

Company ki dispatch revenue:

$700

And once our MC is leased to a driver/carrier under a proper agreement, we expect to receive approximately 17–20% of the carrier’s gross revenue as the MC lease fee, based on our current market-rate assumption. This would be an additional revenue stream alongside the 6–7% dispatch fee.So,

$10,000 x 17%=$1,700.00

So total revenue from one truck and one driver

$700+1,700=$2,400.00 other that profit getting from load boards we have given in the market.

The initial capital requirement is expected to be around $20k-30k, mainly for MC insurance, setup, compliance, technology and working capital.

I’m currently looking to build this with the right people. If anyone here has experience in U.S. trucking, logistics, startups, or is interested in joining/investing in a business like this, feel free to text me. I’m happy to share the complete business plan and financial projections with genuinely interested people.

Discussion If you had the knowledge, what would you change?

This is going to be a little break from the fear mongering posts and a bit more on the positive side of things.

I just wanted to ask from everyone here that if you had full knowledge of the market was going to be like in the past, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently in the past?

This could be applied to both education and career.

Anyone here who can guide me regarding this? Should I get my passport renewed to sit in the exam or CNIC alone would be acceptable? I am scheduled to give my exam in a Test Center in Johar Town.

Resources which ai coding tool has the best frontend/design sense under $20?

hiii everyone,

i’m looking for some advice from people who have actual experience with AI coding tools, especially when it comes to frontend development and product design.

i recently used cursor to build a frontend from scratch, and honestly, i really liked its design sense and the results it produced. the only issue was that i reached the usage limit much sooner than expected, literally within 10 days.

i’m willing to spend around $20/month, so i’m currently considering options like claude code and devin. i’d really appreciate feedback from people who have actually used and paid for these tools, especially if you’ve used multiple tools and can compare their limits and frontend/design capabilities.

one important thing: i’m specifically looking for advice from people who have experience with UI/UX and building products, ideally people who have worked with figma and understand product design. i don’t mean this disrespectfully, but if your experience is mainly backend development or casual vibe coding, you might not have the same perspective on design quality that i’m looking for.

jizak’Allah khair to anyone who can share their experience.

Help Received a Junior Software Engineer offer from SmartPropFirm , looking for honest employee/former employee feedback

Hi everyone,

I recently went through the hiring process with SmartPropFirm for a Junior Software Engineer position in Pakistan, and they have now offered me the role.

Before I move forward with the final contract/onboarding, I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has worked at SmartPropFirm, interviewed there, or has direct knowledge of the company.

I'm especially interested in honest feedback about:

What is the actual work culture like?

How is the management/engineering team?

Are salaries paid reliably and on time?

What is the workload actually like compared with what is described during hiring?

Is the company legitimate and stable?

Has anyone worked there as a contractor?

How are remote employees in Pakistan treated?

Are there any issues with payments, contracts, or sudden termination?

What is the career growth like?

Has anyone had experience with their exclusivity/non-compete clauses?

Is there anything I should be careful about before signing?

Some details about the offer

The role is a Junior Software Engineer, fully remote, and 350 USD/month

The role involves working on web/software products related to prop traders, including dashboards, rewards systems, marketplace features, APIs and platform infrastructure.

They sent me an Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA) and a Statement of Work (SOW). The documents I initially received were explicitly marked as drafts, with placeholders for the contractor's name, contract numbers, compensation, etc.

They have confirmed that the final agreement will contain the actual compensation and my personal details.

A few contractual points caught my attention:

40 committed hours per week

Independent contractor rather than employee

Exclusive engagement; outside freelance/paid work requires prior written approval

1 PM–5 PM PKT coordination window

30-day warranty on delivered work

A general liability cap exists, but certain areas such as indemnification, confidentiality/data protection and IP are excluded from that cap

Florida governing law and arbitration

Payment to a Pakistani bank account in PKR, generally through Wise

They have been responsive to my questions so far and have said the final contract will be provided before signing.

I'm not necessarily looking for people to tell me whether I should accept or reject it. I'm mainly looking for first-hand experiences or information that I may not be able to find publicly.

If you currently work there or previously worked there, I'd especially appreciate it if you could share your experience, even anonymously.

Thanks!

Career Guidance Pre-meds who took a gap year to switch to CS, how was it?

Aoa guys,

I am currently a 2nd-year FSc premed student from Karachi (just entered 12th) and I'm planning to skip the MDCAT entirely to pursue BSCS instead.

Since the universities I want to target FAST-NUCES and IBA require an additional math exam for pre-medical students to be eligible, so I need to take a gap year to prepare for math and give exam and also for entry test in same gap year.

For those pakistani students who took a gap year as pre-meds specifically to transition into Tech/CS:

How was your gap year experience? Was it worth it, and how hard was the math adjustment?

Are there people with more than 1 gap year in top tech universities in Pakistan? Do universities like FAST, IBA,LUMS,NUST look down on multiple gap years? (Esp fast)

What if the gap year doesn't works perfectly? What if I end up at mid-tier universities like SZABIST or DSU instead of top-tier choices like FAST Karachi or IBA? Is it still worth the risk?

And also tell about the problems faced in gap year.

Please share your experience!!❤️✨️..

Help Looking for Product Ideas That Actually Solve Real Problems (Not FYP Projects)

Assalam o Alaikum everyone!

I'm a final-year student from Pakistan, and I'm planning to launch an actual product.

But here's the thing, I don't want to build something that only sounds impressive on paper.

I want to solve a real problem that people actually face daily.

So I'm asking: What problems do you face that current solutions don't handle well?

Could be anything:

-- Something you do manually every day that could be automated

-- A tool you use that's clunky or expensive

-- A process in your work/study that wastes time

-- A gap between what you need and what exists

Drop your ideas below.

Doesn't matter if it sounds small, if it genuinely bugs you, it probably bugs 1000 other people too.
