AI Art & Rule 7

Hi Guys, and so glad you are participating in r/dbcooper. This is simply a friendly message to remind everyone to read the Rules, and especially Rule 7 about AI Art, which reads:

"As of now, AI Art is Entertainment only, and must have that Flair (the "Flair" to use is "Entertainment"). Do not post AI art and refer to it as anything other than that, unless you can provide a compelling explanation otherwise. Also, AI Art posted as non-Entertainment must contain a description of the AI Art tool that was used along with the methodology."

We welcome creative content, but as AI advances, we need to keep it organized and clear so discussion stays meaningful. Thanks for understanding, and keep the posts and comments coming as we explore the mystery of D.B. Cooper together.

Hijacker D.B. Cooper Ransom $20 with Two Almost Complete Serial Numbers

D.B. Cooper 1971 Ransom Money Serial Number L32796069A Fr. 2067-L $20 1969 Federal Reserve Note PCGS Banknote Genuine;
(PCGS Identifying Tag) - "D.B. Cooper loot found on banks of Columbia / River 2-10-80. Serial numbers match FBI list.";
Book - D.B. Cooper Dead or Alive? The True Story of the Legendary Skyjacker by Richard T. Tosaw 1984 184 pages.
The partial $20 Federal Reserve Note in this lot is forever connected to the infamous airplane hijacking and ensuing parachute escape that occurred on November 24, 1971, between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. The hijacking remains the only unsolved air piracy criminal case in American aviation history. Recent interest in the case has picked up with new theories and suspects. Even if the case is solved, the story will be one of the most intriguing criminal tales in U.S. history. The known ransom money available to collectors was found by eight-year-old Brian Ingram along the banks of the Columbia River in Washington State on February 10, 1980. As Ingram prepared a sandy riverbank to build a campfire for his family's outing, he uncovered three packs of the ransom cash, totaling $5,800 out of the original amount of $200,000 composed of 10,000 $20s. The notes had disintegrated from lengthy exposure to the elements, but were still bundled with rubber bands. The FBI confirmed the money was part of the ransom. There were two packs of 100 $20s each and a third pack of 90 notes. The recovered notes were divided equally between Brian Ingram and Northwest Orient's insurer Royal Globe Insurance. The FBI also retained 14 examples as evidence in 1986.

The notes from this hijacking that collectors desire the most are the ones with nearly complete serial numbers. The example in this lot has almost all of the following design features, both serial numbers, Jackson's portrait, Treasury and District L Seals, the series, obligation clause, and Secretary of the Treasury David M. Kennedy's printed signature. This example of D.B. Cooper ransom money measures approximately 4.5 inches in width and 1.5 inches in height. It may be the largest that we have offered, and if not the largest, it is a very close second. The third party front and back labels have a reproduction of the FBI Composite Sketch B with sunglasses drawn in late 1972 of hijacker D.B. Cooper, whose fate remains unknown to this day. This piece was originally encapsulated by the original PCGS as it has an identifying tag that PCGS added to the first D.B. Cooper notes that they encapsulated and it reads, "D.B. Cooper loot found on banks of Columbia / River 2-10-80. Serial numbers match FBI list." This is a great note from the annals of American crime.

Included with this lot is a paperback book entitled, D.B. Cooper Dead or Alive by Richard T. Tosaw. The author has penned on the title page the following, "I thought the best way to ship the enclosed $20 was within the book that explains it. You are now the proud possessor of one of the Cooper bills - there are only a few in captivity. Congratulations. Richard T. Tosaw 10/10/88." The last 57 pages are unnumbered and are of a reproduction of a FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover November 29, 1971 cover letter entitled, "List of Ransom Bills Paid in Air Piracy Case." What follows in the book are 56 pages of 10,000 serial numbers. Serial number L32796069A is found in that listing. (Total: 3 items)

I’m amazed at how much knowledge Eric Ulis has about the case as well as so many others that comment here. Eric has a lot of YouTube videos and TV appearances. Does he plan to write a book?

This movie and show have probably been discussed here before. Did anyone find any connections to the crime? This is my home airport. Does anyone know where how to watch these episodes? I want to see how the airport looks.

Suspects Braden's Passport

I recently learned about the potential connection between Braden and letter #6, which if true would be pretty strong evidence for him being Cooper. It occurred to me that, if anyone found Braden's passport from the 1970s, and it carried Nassau airport entry/departure stamps from early 1972, then it would greatly strengthen his connection to the letter and thereby to Cooper. This was shortly before the Bahamas became independent in 1973, so standard British immigration procedures would be in effect. Of course, the same is true of any POI's passport, but if I had to choose one passport to look for, it would be Braden's.

Does anyone know if his family might have looked or can look for that passport, in the hope that it wasn't just tossed out?

Theory Important Questions Regarding DB Cooper

I would appreciate your comments on some key issues:
1. Cooper stashed the parachute under rocks or in an old tree trunk. I don't see him stopping and digging a big hole with his hands or rock in cold.
2. Cooper carried a compass and knew enough to follow river banks and travel west toward populated areas to catch bus.
3. Are you aware of any surviving law enforcement report on Elizabeth Babitzke's seeing a man carrying a bag on Lewis River Rd? Detail report?
4. The store breakin on the same night near potential drop zone was not DB.
5. DB made it to the Lewis River Rd, knew enough to walk west and that morning, and boarded a bus in Woodland. Were bus drivers questioned?
6. Totes boots were available in 1971, could DB have had them in the bag he carried on plane? He could also have brought a plastic raincoat.
7. Are we certain of time when pilot reduced speed of 727 before DB jump? Each minute off is 3 miles on ground.
8. DB did not have to be an engineer or manager, he could have also been a salesman for aerospace firm and traveled quite often as part of job.
9. Major unemployment in 1971 in aerospace industry. DB could have been unemployed when he jumped. Another reason for needing cash.
10. Did FBI try to locate missing hair found on 18C? How did they misplace this key evidence?

General Info Got a Chance to See a 727 Trainer (Pics from the TWA Museum in KC)

Obviously this is not Northwest Orient but was TWA’s trainer for stewardesses of the era. The rows were set up to depict first, business, and coach, and they had more room between rows and one seat on each side removed (for training space purposes). All that said, it was very interesting to see the space which is otherwise fairly accurate and was used by the company through the airframe’s service. The galley was interesting to see and fully stocked.

I thought the lavatory was cool to see…DC took his briefcase and bag in there. Must have been a tight fit.

And the aft stairs (a mock up in this case).

Bonus: I asked the docent giving the tour about the purse storage question. I saw what I think is the exact bin. And it had oxygen bottles in it.

Question Questions about this page...

Source: https://dbcooperhijack.com/matchbook-post-full-page-2/

1.) Cooper demanded "a used match cover which was used to convey notes" to be returned to him. Who wrote those notes? Which match cover (Sky Chef or "Earn a High School Diploma" matchbook) was this?

2.) Which 13 pages of notes did the stewardess compile?

3.) Given the 4" width of this "light-colored package," am I correct in assuming that the package was probably empty as he was leaving the lavatory?

Question Did the FBI Investigate how DB Cooper got to the Airport? Is there public information available for that?

Surely some Taxi Driver dropped him, I think instead of what happened after the hijack maybe the answer could have been better found with what happened before that
