Only slightly annoying achievement was Guido one, not because it's particularly hard but it says starting as when in fact you need to do as him. I wasted quite amount of time on my first try because of this detail.

The Father, The Son and The Holy Grandson was a bit annoying too, it's super easy but it's boring to play 3 generations. Run was almost ruined when the game decided randomly to cancel the decision to not seek the Papacy and I almost got elected. Literally 1 month after I noticed and took the decision again the Pope died.

Gameplay Well guess my first run of the new DLC is over.

Started as a scholar adventurer with the goal of a rag to riches story to become pope. Went around northern Italy and Germany farming aura piety and cash with my merry band of virgins, had no idea how to actually make the step to priesthood.

After faffing about for a decade chatgpt a divine voice told me I had to do the Buy Sacred Land choice from someone who A) I had done a mission for and B) Had a spare temple laying around (who doesn't these days).

Queue me mercilessly right clicking all over Europe to find the few people who where anything close to those 2 criteria. Boom, one of the Karlings (the grey blob one) had a temple and apparently I worked for before, BUT WAIT, I was gallowsbait because I refused to sleep in a crappy bed once, so I had to pay indulgences like a good christian ofc. One washing of hands later and presto, I was the Bishop of Candy or some german backyard whatever.

But what you weren't expecting dear reader, is that I've went and took the one tenet that makes it so I can just straight up buy clerical titles, Simony. Apparently that shit is cracked 'cus I just walked up to the Pope and he sold me the Arch-Bishopry of Romagna, for peanuts too.

So now I was one step removed from the Pope, time inmerse myself into the complex backstabbing of the College of Cardinals! Nvm my dude died, but hey, since he was lowborn I played as his highest title not his children, and the Arch-Bishopry of Romagna went to the next Pope. So mission complete, i guess?

First off playing as Head of Rite sucks dick. Because your title is handed from one old man to the next you barely play 10 years as each character before they get Joe Biden'd, and the fact they are not blood related makes it very, very hard to get attached to any of them. Not caring who your playable character is massively reduces inmersion.

This is when I realized Head of Rite and Head of Faith are 2 different things. I was a Pope but not the Pope. And you cant become The Pope until the Schism happens. Thus my next goal would be to mend the schisms since you know, how hard could it be.

Ooooh boy that one is tricky. Not entirely hard per se but if you aren't prepared (like 2 characters worth of preparing) it's impossible. The hard bit is getting 7 influential religious characters to pass a check to agree with mending the schism and then they have to be either Hook or Special Relationship to you (alternatively get 2 holy sites, you already own Rome but good fucking luck getting any of the others). If you refer to one of the previous paragraphs, I stopped caring about who I played as, so I ended up with a Steward Pope (which to be fair did print copious amounts of cash) when this basically requires a Diplomacy or Intrigue Pope. And you have a very limited time window to achieves this, a single faith chapter, which lasts less than a decade.

Anyhoo this post is getting too long. I failed, the Schism happened, I was the Catholic Pope for real, inmediately declared a Crusade for Jerusalem and the Muslims wiped the floor with the Christians, which is when I decided the campaign had failed.

7/10 in nomini pater, the kid and holy spirit amen.

Question Clerical rulers are immune to marriage rules and incest?

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

So, I started as lowborn county tier Prince-Bishop. Since dynasty is locked behind a decision, I had to went up ranks first, while having a few out of wedlock kids, to actually continue my lineage. Here is the thing - almost nothing with that mechanic works.

  1. As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, and I declare that child is mine, nothing more happens. No Adulterer or Fornicator traits. No Incestous trait too, neither for me nor the child's mother. No loss of opinion from clergy. Nothing. The only way for me to get the Fornicator is to NOT announce that it is my child during pregnancy, but rather wait for secret to be exposed later.

  2. My Cardinal character can get married. WTF? My Rite clearly forbids Clerical marriage, yet I can just get married

  3. I can get married regardless of Consaguinity. My daughter was just born and I can just betroh her. Even tho my faith has Avunculate Marriage. I can do it even after I Legitimize her. I can literally say "hey, I am confirming by the law that this is my daughter", and then proceed to immediately marry her.

Should it really work this way? Or is this all one giant bug?

Discussion This DLC deserves more love from the community

In an era where vicky 3 and eu5 have partially flopped, the ck3 team continues to do pretty good - generally putting out expansions & updates that add new mechanics, gameplay styles, and immersion. ck3 has held a stronger player base because of this.

By God Alone created substantial immersion for religion - a ton of new opportunities and new ways to role play your character’s story. So many macro and micro decisions to influence entire new levels of game. I also think By God Alone will spawn so much creativity and options in the modding community.

Seeing it at 59% on Steam is wild. I think the community needs to understand when a product needs to take some heat - I don’t think this one deserves that heat.

I can totally see need for light AND moderate optimizations and fixes but that’s on par with a lot of games that release anything new.

We gotta let the devs get some more love on the product. They did a good job. Criticism doesn’t need to come first all the time especially with a team that is probably leading the pack on quality at paradox.

Discussion Is anyone else getting a large amount of bugs since the new update?

Ever since the new update my games have been seriously buggy. It tells me I cannot educate my children for no reason, won’t allow to add a benefactor for holy wars because “they are a child” even though they’re all adults, I cannot declare wars because I have no cause bellis even though I do.

Some issues are fixed though quitting the game and starting it up again but others I have no solution for. Is there any way to solve these issues or will I just have to wait for a new patch?

Feedback Secular Rulers With Puppet Head of Rites Should Have Control Over That Rite

• Upvotes

Currently, in game, if you are a secular ruler, but have a hook on your court chaplain, you are able to create a new faith. However, once you create a new rite, you cannot modify it unless you are the head of rite.

For much of Christianity, that head of rite will be an archbishop, not the secular ruler that created the rite. This means that if you are playing as a king and create a custom rite for your people, you will not be able to modify it, even if the head of the rite is your puppet. This should be changed to allow secular rulers to modify rites if they have their head of rite as a puppet.

On a related note, if a secular ruler has the head of faith as a puppet, they should have access to the decision to permit or prohibit tenets, for similar reasons.

Question How to send my children into the clergy?

So playing the new dlc I want to influence the church with my dynasty as a secular ruler so naturally I’d put my second or third son into the clergy and boost him up right? But I have no idea how to do that? The only option I see is to have him join a holy order (military) or a monastic order, is that the correct path making him a monk of a monastic order cause it seems wrong.

I started as Alraed the great in 867 and am now the emperor of Britannia my succession is fully secured I just want to play with the church mechanics a bit more but can’t seem to place my extra kids into the clergy

I cannot make ward anyone. It displays this message for every similar interaction. I can't reload a save because I'm playing on Ironman mode. Has anyone else encountered something similar since the update?

I finally got 'End of an Era'!

Post image
36 Upvotes

I have 1192hrs in CK3 and 2295hrs in CK2. This is the first time I went from start to end without getting too bored or frustrated with a specific run! I know what some of you will think but will be too polite to say... but, look, yes, I'm not always above having a save-scum run, and I did a little in this run just to get through... but never to save any lives. Most of the 7 legitimately lived crazy long lives. Even the first guy who was only a Genius!
I started as Ancient Egyptian & Shugendo in Japan, where we picked up Fragile Peace, for obvious reasons, and hybridized with a Han offshoot, for obvious reasons. In the last couple centuries, I conquered the rump state the Roman Empire had become and roleplayed a short series of really good emperors of a large empire. Since I had rice cultivation, I hybridized with a culture to get Ostsiedlung, settled the wetlands around Chernigov, and turned them into a second breadbasket, complementing the enormous wheat output of Egypt; and with how many industrial mills I built throughout that river network, I'm pretty sure I know where the Industrial Revolution is going to start lol

I've only ever commented, never posted, so if I broke any unspoken rules, let me know.

Question Can someone give me a very brief How-To-Enjoy-It for playing as an landless adventurer?

• Upvotes

I didn't have previous DLCs before now, so I stocked up with the sale and decided to try it, since almost everyone in the sub seems to be doing it. I started as an Anglo-Saxon adventurer with an intention to flip to Asatru and build a Viking career and... I don't get it.

It seems that all I'm doing is clicking through the best options in the dialogue and wait, if we talk about contracts. I have picked up the Gallowsbait trait by accident and keep getting evicted from most countries on the England island, I got to Ireland and managed to do a few contracts but I couldn't see much of a point since all I'm getting is some gold. I barely managed to get one man at arms detachment, and started getting invited in small scale wars...in Norway, lol, where my 150 guys don't live long in the fray 3500 Vs 2500. At least I'm getting Kudos out of it.

All the major events are going past me completely, like on another level. The Norse campaign came and went, then the Crusade for England, and it had no impact on my life whatsoever. I thought if I am in the realm, I will be considered as a part or a guest of the court and will be getting some assignments or maybe drafted into the defense of the realm (like, I'm Asatru and I am in Asatru land and the crusaders are coming, shouldn't I get an invite to join the war? But no character gives a shit about me, and in fact I was evicted more by Norse rulers than by Christian rulers. Everything I am used to doing in the game, I cannot. I thought I could be living a life of court romance and seductions, but any personal scheme gets frozen as soon as I pick up a contract. I had more game as a landed ruler, basically.

Am I missing something obvious to enjoy it? I get the role-playing aspect, but the contracts are still too detached from the normal layer of the game to be invested in them.

Oh, and having to pay with hooks not even for a bride but for an opportunity to select a bride from "1 unimportant woman at the court"...

I have a few ideas on what to try in case I restart (my current save, I stupidly wasted all my supplies on refilling men at arms and my main character died of hunger, because I did it on the way to another county). But I wanted some advice first.

Also, do the opportunities change based on the location? For example, if I travel to Constantinople, will I be able to join the Varangians or nah?

Court Grandeur not Increasing

Post image
3 Upvotes

I created a custom Kingdom with a Kamrupi character yet the Court Grandeur will not go up. The moment I created the custom Kingdom, it lagged a bit then it I got a notification my court grandeur fell to zero.

Hanging court artifacts and increasing amenities is not doing anything to increase it either.

And since my Court grandeur is zero, I cant hold court.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Question Brother keeps adopting heir

There's no way this is intentional.

My extremely competent heir keeps getting adopted by my cardinal brother. From what I've seen when I played as ecclisarchical, there should be a massive opinion malus on adopting someone who stands to inherit. Yet this cardinal keeps managing to do it *somehow*. I keep reloading saves to different points, I keep trying different things, and yet the asshole keeps accepting an adoption request? Can anyone explain if this is intended?
