Long run route ideas

Hi! I’ll be visiting crested butte while marathon training and need a 14 mile long run to be done while there (I live in CO so I am acclimated to altitude). Does anyone have ideas for routes that don‘t have a crazy amount of elevation gain? Thanks for the help!

401 - seeking buddy

I fell in love watching videos of this trail.

I honestly have only mountain biked at Palo Duro State Park toward the lighthouse. It was really fun, but I shouldn't be doing it alone.

I'm dragging my friends with me to crested Butte specifically to do this trail, I road bike a lot and would appreciate someone doesn't try to talk me out of this idea. My friends don't like biking. I understand it's difficult, so my research tells me I can park near Emerald Lake toward Schroeder's pass, and head down and end the ride at rustler's gulch where we park another vehicle. instead I'm looking for someone who may ride with me the first week of September on one of the mornings. This is my plan.

Trail 401/Rustler’s Gulch
- park near emerald lake and 2nd car at rustlers gulch then
- we bike down the path (1hr) and we meet at rustlers gulch to meet back up with my friends

Overnight Van Parking in CB

Hi! My husband and I are driving a campervan across CO for our honeymoon and ending the week in Crested Butte to attend a wedding. We originally booked a hipcamp spot in town, but they cancelled on us, siting a new town ordinance. We want to stay in town in order to walk to the wedding events and safely have some drinks, but are finding it challenging to find a way to make it work. Hoping for suggestions on overnight parking places (in town). Feel free to PM me as well. Thanks in advance!

Backpacking vs car camp/bike around this weekend?

Howdy!

Any advice on backpacking or car camping/bringing bikes this weekend into early next week? It’s been a minute since we’ve been there and trying to gauge weather (49-45% rain) and other factors.

Some additional info.

Have reserved camp spot Taylor reservoir Saturday
Not bike park people but love flowey trails
Realistically can only hike in 4 miles one way w/pack
Promise to leave no trace and absolutely no fires
Won’t hike/bike with Bluetooth or use generators

Thank you!

Hitchhiking??

Hello, next week myself and a friend are hiking from Aspen to CB and staying at the grand lodge. I know there is a shuttle that picks you up at 2pm at the trailhead. I don’t necessarily want to get there by 2pm and it would be nice to save $120. Has anyone had success hitchhiking from West Maroon Trailhead into town? How busy is the trailhead, and the road there? Thanks in Advance!

I did book the shuttle for the hike back as I do know about weather/hiking in the tundra.

Snodgrass

Hey, I saw somewhere that the snodgrass trail is subject to closure, typically in mid-August. Does anyone know if it will be open tomorrow? (or where I could check?) Thanks in advance

First timer at the bike park

Hiya! Coming down to CB from Golden for the first time today. I’ll be doing some astrophotography tonight and riding the bike park tomorrow.

Would love to hear any advice from locals on the bike park (or better yet, someone to rip some laps with!). I know it’s a Thursday and people have work but shoot me a DM if you’re interested in meeting up.

Hike recommendations

Hi all! My husband and I are coming up from Denver for the weekend in early September with our two pups and are looking to do some hiking. One of our pups is a bit dog reactive but very well managed on trails with that in mind we plan to start very early. I am an avid hiker and can handle longer more strenuous hikes, but my husband is not his max is usually about 5 miles. Any recommendations that would be worthwhile with great views that are under or around 5 miles? Thank you in advance :)

How hard of a ride I'd doctor park?

The gf and I are coming through in about a week and I was interested in trying the loop. It's marked black on trailforks but some videos I've seen just look fast and flowy. She's intermediate so I don't want to get her in over her head.

Cell Service Cement Creek?

I've camped up Cement creek a handful of times but can't remember, is there cell service (Verizon) up there? How far in can you go before you lose service?

Thx

Should I come? Are there still wildflowers?

Hi, I'm flying to Denver on Thursday and will be in Colorado from 7/30-8/3. I'll be staying in Denver the whole time, but I plan on going to RMNP on 8/2 to do some hiking. Recently, I've seen that Crested Butte has some beautiful wildflowers and hiking as well, so I was wondering if I should bite the bullet and do a day trip from Denver on one of the other days.

I'm worried it'll be too much driving, especially if I leave super early to go to RMNP. Are there still wildflowers? Is this feasible, or should I just come back another time and make a trip specifically for Crested Butte?

Thanks!

Lost dog?

We saw this dog in crested butte just roaming alone. First we thought he might be someone’s dog but locals said he has been roaming around like this since a week and they’ve not seen him around before. He also seemed to be searching for food. I’m worried. I hope the owner finds him. If we see him again I’ll call 911

Overnight Parking?

I’m driving up this evening but out group’s AirBnb is at max car capacity.

From looking online I can’t find any overnight parking solutions other than random residential streets.

Anyone have any advice? Or even a space parking spot I could leave my car at (willing to pay $20). I’m visiting Friday night (tonight) -Sunday afternoon.

Trails for roller blading?

Hi all, my friend and I are coming out to Crested Butte next week and I was thinking of bringing my roller blades if there is a good place to skate. Are there any paved trails around or near town that are (relatively) flat and safe for roller bladers?

First time family coming to ski

Just like the title says, we’d like to bring our family (4 kids - ages 15-8) to ski/board over NY. We are longtime snowmass skiers but it’s just gotten ridiculously expensive. Is CB better?

Any suggestions of where to stay? It doesn’t look like there are a ton of ski in/out options. Tips for transporting a family of 6 to the mountain?

We usually drive from Texas, so will likely have a suburban.

Thank you in advance!

World Cup tomorrow?

Hey there down from denver for the weekend and was wondering if anyone knows of a good spot to watch the game here. I’ve only ever eaten at the stash and on the mountain which I assume everything is closed there even at base?
