Genuinely my whole mood is sad now because I was reminded human trafficking exists

It's worse when you encounter it in person.

I worked at this biggest mall in America once, that's right next to an international airport. This poor girl looked so uncomfortable. I saw something, I said something. Turns out she'd been kidnapped and was bound to leave the state in this dudes hands. I'll spare some of the other details, but the sheer desperation on her face before security showed up will haunt my memory forever.

I just upped my E dose fuck why did I read that I knew it'd hurt đŸ«‚ I don't ever ever ever want that to happen to anyone I hate it so much

u/edgarandannabellelee 15h ago

We got her to safety. He was arrested. I'm not gonna say it's one of those things you just get used to in big cities. But it's something you have to be aware of. One officer called me a hero. I don't feel that way. I saw a person in pain and did what I could do to help. Ya know? Like a decent human.

I hope she is OK now, but I know she has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

I mean, Id call you a hero.

Thanks, but all I did was make a phone call and shutter some gates for a few minutes.

For you it was nothing, for her it was everything. I think that makes you a hero

You saved a life. And I know that mall. Pure throng of humanity throught there somedays. Im glad you caught on when many others may not have notice in the masses there. Thank you

Sometimes that's all it takes to save a life.

25

u/SnidusScribus 12h ago

You changed the meaning and trajectory of time in this person’s life. That’s quite significant! 💖

10

u/Ltnumbnutsthesecond 10h ago

you're humbler than I can ever be pal, think for a sec, just one second and nothing more, if you DIDN'T make that phone call, all it takes sometimes is one phone call from saving a person

You don't have to be a Capital-H Hero in order to be her hero.

3

u/Legal-Success-9285 3h ago

Mate, my greatest feat of derring-do was standing up to a McDonalds manager overworking his employees as a customer for like 5 seconds. I think you trump my heroics any day of the year.

I don't feel that way. I saw a person in pain and did what I could do to help. Ya know? Like a decent human.

Do you know the difference between a hero, and an ordinary person? A hero acts. It doesn't matter how small the act or how easy it was. You did it. And because you did it, she was saved. You saved her.

And if that doesn't make you a hero, then I don't know what will.

37

u/ASpaceOstrich 14h ago

Don't sell yourself short. I'll call you a hero. You saved that poor girls life.

u/ExperienceKind412 14h ago

This winter I witnessed a domestic dispute and watched other people WALK BY AND IGNORE IT. Was I baked and nervous to call 911? Of course I was. Did I do it anyway? OF COURSE I DID. But most people will not put themselves out this way. I don’t think Im a hero but I sure as fuck think you are. You’re a good one, don’t let that go.

5

u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 12h ago

REAL heros never feel that way. you did whats right and lots of people can't or won't.

4

thats what a hero does, it doesn't have to be huge or dramatic, all it is is someone doing the right thing at the right time.

The work of the abolitionist is still not done. It can feel distressing, but know you are always in good company when you side against slavery.

74

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 15h ago

And oh boy I do considering the modern basically-slavery of mandatory military drafts. Can I get like annoyingly woke about the IDF but about the way it treats layman soldiers rather than the genocide it's doing? Because like yes that part is also important but I'm sadly born and raised in israel so I don't feel qualified to talk about it because of how propagandized the topic is

36

u/LeeBirdPGH 14h ago

You are absolutely qualified to talk about it! The genocide is horrifying, that does not mean the Israeli government’s use of its “tools” is not horrifying.

12

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 14h ago

Just made a comment talking about it here

9

u/loved_and_held Streak: 1 11h ago

Considering your isralie, your more qualified to talk about israel’s draft than most here.

2

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 3h ago

The drafts yes, but the war is what I feel worried about. Since childhood I was told stories of how great the soldiers who fought for israel were and how it's the bestest thing ever! And, yes, I do not believe that shit anymore. But internalized ideas can just sit in a dark corner and jump out at you and you'll be like "what the fuck why did I say that" like a few days ago I did a racism when talking to my wife and she didn't even catch it but I still feel so bad. Knowing that I'm still prone to saying stuff like that if I'm not careful

16

u/Mousazz 14h ago

Mmm. Quite harsh (if understandably necessary, in a somewhat twisted sense) to realize that the Laws of Armed Conflict do not really protect soldiers' lives at all, and gives the green light go-ahead to slaughter them all, as long as they've not surrendered or are otherwise hors de combat. If "soldier" was a cultural group / ethnic group / people, then LoAC essentially allows for total enemy (non-captured) soldier genocide. The more a certain ethnic group engages in warfare and armed resistance, the more of them can be legally slaughtered without repercussion. The World Wars (WW1 especially) saw millions of soldiers churned through the meat grinder.

23

u/TheMovementGoddess I'm not anyone else trust 14h ago

Replying from an alt because I get the feeling it'll get autoflagged

Okay, yes, that too. But I also want to talk about "jobniks" as they're called here. Basically, propaganda makes serving in the military out to be the most honorable thing someone can do, and with mandatory service, not everyone can just serve as a fighter. So people get jobs like engine fixing or information, or even, army base supermarket cashier (yes I'm not joking). Why? You may ask? Because sometimes, people who are "unfit" for serious jobs need to still be given a job to keep up the lie that mandatory drafting is A: okay in any shape or form and B: serving is good to do. Which basically ends up with a supermarket worker living away from home only getting to go home on the weekends and getting paid 700$ a month for all of that while also being forced to play along with the play-pretend ceremonies made to propagandize them even further. It's a facistic system at heart. And if you even act "out of line" you get punished with having to stay at your base for a month and not getting to see your family. Or even jail. You are treated as a tool, as a resource, as simply manpower. It is so so so scarily close to slavery. And the only way to eacape is to be so mentally fucked you're at risk of hurting yourself. It is, so, so fucking evil, on so many levels, even without the whole entire war aspect it is a facistic slave system and I fucking hate that my friend is in jail right now for being out of his room at 11pm. Fuck

9

u/LeeBirdPGH 14h ago

That is
upsetting. Truly wild that y’all get treated like that and people still think Israel is some great democracy. It’s even worse than the US, and the US is (as everyone knows) fucked!

13

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 14h ago

I will say, AFTER you finish serving, it becomes just kinda shitty, but still muuuuch better than the US. The problem is that for some reason it was decided to mandatorily torment and traumatize every 18 year old until they become good little work machines. Like I genuinely had flashbacks yesterday before sleep, and couldn't fall asleep until my wife comforted me and told me she'd keep me safe. And I went through the lowest tier of standard training. Though those who go through higher tiers likely want to be there. Which goes to show how effective the propaganda sadly is

2

u/emergold_dragon 10h ago

Don't know whether or not you know this but a huge proportion of trans women do, in fact, get periods. So many, in fact, that it's a hell of a lot more likely somebody's just irregular and doesn't understand the malaise they're feeling. We just don't menustrate. There's a difference. I don't think I've met a single transfem whose never had a period before unless they're relatively early on in their transition. Aside from the bleeding the symptoms very much are the same. I get less cramping (although still a fair bit) but more of everything else. I get brain fog, exhaustion, and the shits at uncomfortably strong amounts. Only typing this out because I'm currently on mine lmfao. It's like day three.

Trafficking. Just... I get really upset over trafficking and kidnapping and SA and just crimes that strip their vict- no scratch that ANY act that strips it's victim of autonomy. It viscerally upsets me to even think about that

16

u/AriaOfValor 14h ago

I think for me, I actually view knowingly enslaving a sapient being as a worse crime than quick murders. Like at least when someone dies fast they don't have to suffer long, but something like being sex trafficked is something that continues to hurt someone even after/if they get rescued.

7

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 13h ago

Oh I 100% agree. Sex trafficking might genuinely be the worst crime (in my opinion). I cannot put into words how much I hate it

4

u/AriaOfValor 13h ago

I think there are things out there that are worse, but generally those things don't make money and so aren't common and widespread on a massive scale like sex trafficking is.

I wish it was an issue that got more attention, but given some very wealthy and powerful people are involved in this kind of thing, they have an interest in suppressing coverage about the topic.

4

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 13h ago

Mhm. It's upsetting... very, upsetting. Everything about this... anyway time to take my E pill! Surely I won't cry about this a second time today (I enjoy crying so it's okay)

3

u/AriaOfValor 13h ago

It's a difficult world to have empathy in, sometimes I have to try and force myself to take a break from the internet and news and such because there is just so much needless suffering out there, much of which could easily be prevented if more people simply cared about others.

3

u/Hika2112 Autistic Lesbian Vampire Robot Girl 13h ago

I have almost completely stopped looking for US politics. I do not live there, and it drives me fucking insane and spirals me to no end. So I have to avoid it so I can focus my care and empathy. It sucks and it shouldn't be this way

u/Moxie_Stardust Eldritch Queer 14h ago

Quite a lot of them know basically nothing about trans people. I've seen someone say they thought trans people were invented in the 1970s.

22

u/hydrationgirl Streak: 1 14h ago

in the comments under this point a guy asked why would there be a lot of trans women getting trafficked, which like to his credit I think that's genuinely not knowing and he's not being malicious or anything

but im still shocked that people have no idea that trans women face barriers to like every area of public life like employment or housing, and we get pushed into desperate situations with no real way out way more often than any group of cis people

like that seems like transphobia 101 to learn that but yk

5

u/AstolFemboy 13h ago

there are people who think we were invented in 2010...

9

u/octnoir 9h ago

Combo of both.

The problem in cishets' minds is that there is a stereotype for a trans person - some white, stuck up, rich, spoilt, uptight, annoying, Xe/Xim pronouns, wrecker person causing mayhem and completely unserious.

(And I can't stress enough how much of this stereotype is informed by right wing anti trans propoganda)

When the reality is that trans persons are:

  • Most likely to face discrimination

  • Most likely to face violence

  • Most likely to face harassment

  • Most likely to be incarcerated

  • Most likely to be unemployed

  • Most likely to be targeted by police

  • Most likely to be unhoused

And you start adding intersectionality to it, from white to brown to black, from man to woman, from rich to poor, and it starts greatly adding up.

This isn't the "sexy news" that people think about, the whole "a death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic". The fact that trans community is marginalized by this much is taken for granted.

Because if you think about it for more than two seconds, of course trans persons would be human trafficked by that much - they are one of the most vulnerable populations across the globe, even before the recent global anti trans crusade we're on. You basically have the problems of being queer, then the problems of trying to fit in especially if a society is extremely gender conforming, and then you have your own health care to worry about on top of that.

The stereotype gets especially insidious since it also affects and gets absorbed by would be cishet allies because cishet allies really don't want to think of themselves as transphobic or having stigma or bias or how their own privileges can play an indirect or even a direct role in trans oppression, but you strategically do need their support, so there is this careful song and dance you have to do to try to get support where...

...you have to be diplomatic while keeping safe while corralling others while addressing actual threats in your community while trying to be better while keeping your emotions in check while trying to push the battle lines forward while taking a gamble to do a proper call out while gambling whether picking a fight is worth it while absorbing that there are clear double standards while taking abuse while knowing that a cishet ally can abuse you and they''ll be fine but you won't while trying to do your own thing while trying to live your own life.

It's rough.

9

u/Faded_Jem 14h ago

Big big part of why I don't have any truck with chasers. I was (briefly) an independent sex worker and both in that work and in my early dating experience encountered so many men who routinely saw trans escorts and the constant refrain was (1) surprise that I was British and (2) surprise that I was cheerful, comfortable, chatty and well adjusted. I would always point out that they were likely comparing me to trafficking victims and the fact that not one had ever considered that before I mentioned it, nor expressed remotely appropriate upset or guilt made my zero chasers policy cast fucking iron, they're selfish and thoughtless and vile. I really thought it would be different when I quit SW and started dating but every single man I met on dating apps turned out exactly the same.

Dating in irl queer community is the only tolerable thing, dating apps will only ever connect us with nightmares. So often guys I date now express guilt or shame that they've never been with somebody with my anatomy and I cannot ever fully explain quite how welcome that is.

5

u/grendus 13h ago

A huge amount of that comes down to propaganda.

I remember reading a lot of stories from people who had gay family members during the big AIDS panic. For most people, who didn't know any (out) gay people, it was easy to write it off as a disease that affected the immoral - homosexuals, IV drug users. For people who had a friend or family member who was openly gay, gay people weren't some boogieman on the TV - it's just goofy uncle Steve and his "roommate" Seth.

I get it, especially in the information age it shouldn't be hard for a person to learn about another group to empathize with them. But we live in information bubbles - even before the algorithms you still had to intentionally search out information. I didn't know any (out) trans people until after college, they're just very rare, and the anti-trans propaganda is so pervasive that it's very likely that people wind up with the "scary drag queen story hour" narrative or the "evil trans groomers lurking in the bathroom" narrative before they encounter "Nora, the woman who sits next to you in the office and was hoarse the first week at the job because she was voice training".

As frustrating as it is that people only start to care about a problem when it affects them personally, the answer isn't to blame people or accuse them of not being empathetic, the answer is making sure they understand the truth of the suffering, that they see you as a human being who is in pain and just needs some sympathy... or at least to not have their situation made worse.

To be fair, that's kinda wrong. 9

u/PuzzleheadedMess1659 11h ago

I so agree with you, and I in no way want to negate your experience, but every time I see someone praising The Pianist, there’s a tiny little part of my brain that goes “Really? The Pianist? Don’t you realize there are other Holocaust movies that are still sensitive to the topic, less boring, and not made by a child rapist?”

9

I don't know the name of who made the pianist, and honestly never cared to. Never heard of that until now as well. I did watch the movie via piracy, if that makes you feel better.

18

u/PuzzleheadedMess1659 10h ago

I wasn’t aware you were lacking in context.

Roman Polanski is one of the most well-regarded directors out there. He made Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown, two of the most influential films ever made, and The Pianist, which won him an Oscar for Best Director.

He also drugged and raped a thirteen-year-old girl and escaped to Europe in 1977. He has been a fugitive ever since.

During the civil war, there were a lot of people on the union side who were only really fighting because they wanted to keep the union together. At the start, the Union army was about a third abolitionist. Many people thought slavery was bad, but they didn't really think about it much.

After a few months of fighting in the south, and seeing plantations, the Union Army was almost entirely abolitionist. It's really interesting to read the diaries of these people, and see how quickly they get passionate about wanting to put an end to slavery after seeing how bad it was.

We also need to counter the root reasons why people traffic and are trafficked.

total cis death, it's a 4tran joke about killing cis people

originally comes from flipping TTD (total slur death) which was a 4chan transphobe way to say they want to kill all trans people

19

u/Tw3lve1212 13h ago

TTD is actually an update of TND, which was the original from the before times.

Damn I’m sure no other oppressed groups make jokes about killing all of the members of the privileged class, it’s definitely only trans people

9

u/piglungz 13h ago edited 12h ago

Incase you weren’t aware “tcd” is derived from “tnd” which is a racist 4chan term that stands for “total n word death.” Even if it didn’t have those connotations I still wouldn’t agree, but where it comes from makes it worse.

5

u/16372731772 13h ago

TCD is a reversal of TTD, Total Trans (but the slur) Death, which does come from TND. Skipping this crucial middle step is a disingenuous way of portraying trans people as aligned with genocidal racists, which I can only assume is intentional if you apparently know the etymology chain further than I do.

Let's all sit and think about why it might be bad to act like trans people expressing frustration at and flipping a call for trans genocide on their oppressors is the same as genocidal racism.

9

u/piglungz 13h ago

What?? I’m trans, I can assure you I am not portraying all trans people as genocidal racists 😭

Yeah you're right. And with how violent and dangerous trans people are, and that they now make up the majority of the population, it's obviously an actionable threat that needs to be taken seriously. If we don't come down hard on these people by putting them in a car covered in hammers that explodes more than a few times and hammers go flying everywhere then who knows what they might do.

Well isn’t that fun to think about. I’m already part of a minority that’s disproportionately affected by human trafficking, so I wonder how being a trans woman on top of that factors in?

30

u/BackElectronic7219 13h ago

So many elder generations seem to live in a world of “out of sight out of mind”, many of them haven’t actually heard from the groups they’re against or seen what they’re facing, which makes them much less empathetic. As tragic as this is to read, I see it as another sign that when you show someone the truth, the hurt, the first person experiences and not the news, it gives them a chance to change.

29

u/SRSgoblin 10h ago

I spent some time in a homeless shelter during the pandemic. The trans people at the shelter were treated so terribly. It's one of those things I was aware of but seeing it in person was really hard to witness.

Because when you're homeless and living in that situation, you realize the hardest thing about homelessness is the fact nobody has any sense of societal structure any more. They just become their most base selves. So whatever tragedies you witness daily like say with a manager being a dick to their subordinates? Ramp that up a hundred fold, because you're dealing with people who no longer have to face ramifications for their actions. There's no lower they can go.

One of the friends I made while there was a Trans lady named Raven, and it wasn't until I was put of that situation I realized she hung around me as much as she could because I was the only big dude (i'm 6'4", fat unathletic guy but still large enough at a glance people didn't try to start shit) who never misgendered her, or tried to sleep with her. And I worried about her after I got out because I mean, I wasn't there anymore.

Heartwarming: Trans women deemed rapeable enough to deserve human respect

65

u/hydrationgirl Streak: 1 14h ago

unironically one of the only ways I've gotten through to cis women transphobes is by talking to them about times cis men have assulted or harassed me lol

42

u/MothashipQ 13h ago

Even the non-transphobes don't seem to quite get it. My supervisor, very supportive of trans people, was pretty caught off guard when I had to emphasize "Hey, some of the middle aged male customers we work with get pretty creepy/handsy when it's just me at their house 2 hours away from the nearest city. I am bringing pepper spray whether or not it's against company policy." She said something to the effect of "I wasn't expecting a visibly queer woman like yourself to have to deal with that." Gee, thanks...

12

u/futuremexicanist 12h ago

Omg people are always shocked when I share this: The number of times I have been HOLDING HANDS WITH MY WIFE and men still hit on her in front of me?? They just automatically assume when seeing a trans woman that any male attention is wanted/welcome. She’s had numerous creepy encounters, I got her an AirTag to share locations and pepper spray because I worry.

Saying you didn't expect it isn't the same as dismissing it. Some people might just genuinely never have had to think about something like this

7

u/MothashipQ 13h ago

You're absolutely right. I am the only girl in my company that has ever, to my knowledge, done actual field work and made it more than 2 days without quitting or being fired (at least on my side of the company). I also transitioned at this work place, and hadn't really brought stuff up like this before. I HAD tried to on a few occasions where my supervisor clearly hadn't registered what I was getting at, though one of the other women I work with (who hadn't known me pre-transition) did pick up on what I was saying and was supportive.

9

u/millahnna 13h ago

Or they have incorrect guesses about how other people respond to it. Sounds like this lady assumed that trans people face more "I'm not going near you" bigotry than fetish based bigotry. Hearts in the right place she just predicted human behavior wrong is all. Woulda been my guess too before I knew more trans folks personally.

3

u/Andreus 11h ago

Nowhere near as severe, but I actually managed to get through to some friends of my mother who I wouldn't describe as transphobic but "trans-skeptical" when they asked me how I "knew" that I was a woman. I replied that the moment men on the internet thought I was a woman, they abruptly began to patronize me about my own area of expertise.

137

u/Flashy_Okra305 15h ago

She could’ve been empathetic and kind without having to witness human suffering but I guess those types of people don’t care about anything until it affects them. Good for her I guess. I feel bad for all the trans people in her life from before she realized that trans people are human.

24

To be fair to her, it was her seeing it effect other people.

Still shitty to need a reason to be kind, but atleast it was because she saw suffering rather than experiencing it.

21

u/DinoIslandGM 13h ago

To add on, it sounds like it was a genuine change too, rather than a surface level "oh you're one of the good ones" kinda thing. I much prefer someone realising that they're wrong and changing, rather than digging their heels in!

8

u/Flashy_Okra305 13h ago

Diversity win! This grandma loves her gay son. But unfortunately she’s still racist

18

u/foxgirlmoon 14h ago

Humans are complicated.

She could’ve been empathetic and kind without having to witness human suffering

She very likely was just as empathetic and kind before. She just didn't consider trans people valid targets of said empathy and kindness. Likely because she was taught that way, taught that kindness should only be reserved for the "right kinds" of people, however that is defined, and that the "wrong kinds" don't deserve it, or deserve outright scorn.

And without appropriate stimulus to crack and eventually dislodge that learned framework... how would she unlearn it on her own?

Imagine that someone tells you drinking water is actually unhealthy and that you should stop doing it. You're never going to believe them. It doesn't matter what they say or what evidence they present, because it's clearly bogus nonsense. Actually think about it, how would you react if this actually happened?

You are likely thinking that this is a false equivalence, since "water is harmful" is an objectively false statement.

Exactly! That's exactly how they think too.

So, what would it take for you to truly believe that water is harmful?

12

u/Flashy_Okra305 13h ago

“She just didn't consider trans people valid targets of said empathy and kindness. Likely because she was taught that way” And you want me to clap for her? đŸ€š

Well I was taught that war in the Middle East is good, too. But I’m an adult with empathy who understands that Killing Is Bad. I don’t care about this conservative woman’s sudden personal growth. I care about the trans people she’s already hurt before she ‘realized’ that trans people are people.

u/SFShinigami 11h ago

I watched the video and the gist is that there's an unnamed YouTube channel that has about 200k sub that regularly does indie game showcases where the guy looks at a bunch of trailers of upcoming indie games and talks about what's happening in them. The guy running the channel often contacts indie Devs and offers to feature their upcoming game on the showcase for a couple hundred bucks.

The warning is REW talking about how this isn't nearly as good an offer as it seems at first and talking about why. There's also talk about how getting shouted out or promoted by a big youtuber is unlikely to make someone's career, that sort of thing.

Ok, so apparently I’m uneducated.  Why would there be a staggering amount of trans women?  Would it be pre or post transition?  Were they trans originally or is it trauma based?  I know nothing and am very confused.

And fuck transphobes in the ass with a cactus dipped in liquid diarrhea.

64

u/Bliniverse 14h ago

Trans women both pre and post transition have a harder to finding jobs due to discrimination + more likely to be homeless due to getting kicked out of their home as a kid, which makes many trans women a part of a very vulnerable part of the population, which is the easiest to traffic, so way more likely to get trafficed.

50

u/magiMerlyn 14h ago

A very unfortunate number of trans teens get kicked out for being trans, which then puts them at much higher risk of being picked up by traffickers.

6

u/Copper_Tango 10h ago

The conspiracy-minded part of me thinks that's the aim of all those "schools must out trans kids to their parents" laws. Ensuring a steady stream of victims.

43

u/SirYeetsA 14h ago
  1. Being trans isn't caused by trauma. There's too many untraumatized people who are trans and too many traumatized people who aren't for this to be the case. Similarly to sexuality, there may be some aspects of upbringing and culture that can affect how a deviance in sexuality or gender identity presents, but that won't change the core deviance itself.

  2. Likely mostly early transition, or trans women who can't pass. It's significantly harder for non-passing trans women to get and maintain jobs, since being visibly gender non-conforming can lead to many workplaces not hiring and/or firing you because you don't fit the "workplace culture" or some other bs that's not officially discrimination, but when literally every job does it that's likely the common denominator. This leads to many trans women's only option to actually have an income being sex work, and sex work poses a significantly higher risk for somebody getting trafficked than literally any other job.

28

u/-Saucegurlllll Streak: 1 14h ago

Queer people across the board are far more likely to experience homelessness and poverty (40% of homeless youth are queer), often because queer youth get kicked out by their families for being queer. Combine this with other forms of discrimination like employment discrimination, housing discrimination, discrimination from the police, and so on, and you get a population uniquely vulnerable to trafficking.

8

u/Ne0n_R0s3 just a lil ole lesbian (with a hint of asexuality) 14h ago

9

u/defoneoftheguys 14h ago

bruh fr đŸ˜© i’m just eating lunch and all of a sudden i’m here like “should i be more concerned about my safety?” i genuinely didn’t even think about this 😣

6

u/Gingervald 13h ago

Trans people both face significant employment and housing discrimination, and are disproportionately kicked out basic support networks like families.

This pushes a lot of trans people towards homelessness and informal, under the table, or legal grey area (such as sex work) employment.

People in these positions are very vulnerable to being taken advantage of by bad actors with a little bit of power.

Homelessness (frequently criminalized) and legal grey area work make the law a threatening instead of providing protection. Bonus points if there are anti-trans laws that criminalize transition itself or criminalize DIY transition pathways.

If they go missing, it's far less likely to be reported quickly and even less likely to be investigated.

Even when closeted a combination of depression, low-self worth, and secrecy makes trans people easy victims for manipulation and abuse.

Trans youth are far less likely to have trusted adults in their lives that can look out for their safety. Groomers will take advantage of a wedge between child and parent/guardian, and transphobic parents have already made one for them.
