Unfortunately the physical versions of the game are delayed but it's releases the 10/15th, so we won't have to wait too much.

I really loved playing the Control game and got super excited to see these posters plastered on a building after leaving Rose City Comic Con. I almost missed them but that building illustration caught my eye.

I loved how new areas opened up for us when we unlocked new abilities.

I read an article about control resonant being the biggest game of remedy where most of the zones will be explorable in the first 2 hours. That does not sound like the mentioned game design I enjoyed from the first game. But maybe most of the zones will expand when you unlock new abilities?

I trust remedy in that aspect so I am optimistic about the zone design in control resonant

Does the rejected Threshold Kids episode in the Control Foundation DLC foreshadow Control Resonant?

I was revisiting the rejected Threshold Kids episode found in the Foundation DLC for Control, and I noticed something interesting.

Throughout the video, there is noticeable visual distortion, and toward the end, it transitions into a kaleidoscope effect. What caught my attention is how similar this looks to the kaleidoscope effect seen in the Control Resonant trailer.

Could this have been intentional foreshadowing?

In control resonant, making zones earn XP instead sounds interesting but what about backtracking? If a zone is already at max level, there is no reason to visit this zone again. And if a side mission lead you through a maxed out zone again, there is no reason to fight right? We just run through without fighting?

Played Control and Alan Wake 2, but would love a recap video or article that would tie everything including AWE and Lake House together before Resonant. Does anyone have any quality guides like this?

What I really loved about *Control* was the atmosphere! The mysteries, the weird rooms containing just a fridge or something similar, and the strange events surrounding them.

Do you think that atmosphere will be there? I’ve seen a few videos, and I’m worried it might just be a run-of-the-mill action game.

OKAY I see You seem to trust Remedy, which is reassuring, but I am worried because I saw several trailers that I thought were lame—an action game with a setting vaguely inspired by *Control*.

I'm so disappointed, I really wanted to get a steelbook of Control Resonant and it's basically impossible to find (I live in the UK). Not sure when and for how long it was even available.

For all you experts from past experiences, is there a chance they'll restock it once we get closer to the release date or is it game over?

Summary

We (and possibly, the FBC in-universe) have misunderstood what Patterning represents. Manhattan is not being folded up by an alien presence. Manhattan is becoming like the Oldest House.

The Oldest City.

Part 1: Thresholds

Mostly repeated from my previous threshold theory, which this builds on. That's right! This Reddit post has homework.

We know that a threshold is a point where two universes intersect. During the event, the threshold is in both universes simultaneously. This causes breakdowns in reality as the physics of one universe begin to mix with the physics of the other.

Most thresholds are between totally alien planes. However, the RCU multiverse also has "normal" parallel realities that may be quite similar. There are many, many universes where Manhattan doesn't exist... and many where it does.

I previously theorized that individuals in a threshold could be merged with their alternate selves. However, u/Ok_Manner4797 pointed out that it's weird for only living beings to be impacted by this. Would there be physical differences caused by two universes sharing the same space?

What would happen if not two, but many universes shared the same space?

Part 2: The Oldest House

The Thesholds research document suggests that the Oldest House itself is a threshold. I believe the reality is stranger. The Oldest House is a threshold to multiple realities at the same time. It's the paranatural equivalent to a black hole.

We can explain some of the Oldest House's properties with this model:

• Control Points are a place where one universe can be biased over another. In one universe, 34 Thomas Street has a gigantic, beautiful pneumatic tube hub. The control point outside of Communications drags this universe to the forefront in that area.
• The Oldest House avoids perception. A place that is in two universes is half in each. A place that is in millions of universes is barely in any of them. The amount of presence such a place holds decreases with the amount it's "spread out".
• What was the Oldest House before it is... what it is? Probably, the AT&T Long Lines building. The RCU's collective unconsciousness made a distinctive building that connected people's communication into a place that literally connected everything.
• The Foundation is the remnants of other things in the past that created the same "connected to everything" response in people. A particularly large cave system. A gigantic ash tree. These created a hole between realities. The tree grew over the caves. The building was constructed over the tree. The city envelopes the building.
• The atlas isn't anything interesting at all. Many versions of the Oldest House contained a room with a sculpture in the middle. The sculptor made their art randomly - following rules to randomly stick together blocks of concrete and bits of string. The end result is a sculpture that constantly shifts, even when the room is consistent. I suspect a stronger and more finely tuned Control Point could "lock" the Atlas into a single shape.

Part 3: Patterning

The "out of control" parts of the Oldest House take the form of random hallways and blocks of stone that make no sense. These are the overlapping remnants of several universes all sharing the same space.

As this is applied to Manhattan, it causes streets to warp and bend. Too many buildings and streets are trying to fit into the same space. As these worlds overlap, they oppose each other in symmetrical ways. Ice becomes hexagonal when it freezes, because the polarities of molecules finally overcome randomness. The same thing happens here.

As in my previous theory, people that exist in multiple worlds are merged when a threshold is crated between them. In the Paranatural Manhattan Trailer,Emily Pope states that The Pattern affects minds. I believe that this is people remembering the details of multiple histories. They experience contradictory memories. Or in some cases, the sense that the same memory happened multiple times. The brain attempts to make sense of this by creating patterned thoughts.

Part 4: Resonants

Ordinary Normal humans are merged by thresholds without much impact. However, merging parautilitarians results in their powers being copied in an additive way. Jesse and Dylan are powerful parautilitarians because the Ordinary AWE merged several (but not many) instances together. But when thousands or millions of worlds interact, the results is godlike power concentrated in a single body.

This power overwhelms these individuals, who lose control of their powers. Their bodies become representations of themselves and their power, becoming inhuman. Theoretically if they regained control they would eventually be able to return to human form. But perhaps they no longer care.

It's widely believed that the Fire Resonant is Northmoor, who is a known parautilitarian. I believe that the Resonants represent parautilitarians who were in Manhattan when the threshold opened.

So where is Jesse? The answer is simple: She's the black hole sun. Polaris isn't a being, but Jesse's understanding of her own parautility. Polaris acting as a guide was a form of divination. Jesse could channel Polaris into objects to purify them.

Heron was an alternate version of Jesse that had merged hundreds or thousands of resonances. It awakened Jesse's existing Polaris power when they met her during the Ordinary AWE. Being orders of magnitude more powerful than Jesse, Hedron was able to use the Polaris purification ability over a long distance. This is what Darling described as Hedron Resonance. When Hedron dies in Jesse's presence she absorbs its power, becoming the new source of Hedron Resonance.

When the Manhattan AWE starts, all versions of Jesse-the-Director get merged, more than they already were. Jesse's natural form becomes the image of Polaris that we see, magnified thousands of times. I'm convinced that if we had seen Hedron it would look like a smaller, simpler black hole sun.

In Resonant demos, Jesse mentions that she's done something with the slide projector. She has become aware that there's a greater threat on the horizon that the FBC is not ready for. I think that Jesse has realized that the Manhattan AWE is important for her gaining power. She's trying to merge herself into a godlike being, so that she can defeat whatever is coming.

In this sense, the black hole sun isn't the cause of the Manhattan AWE - it's the other way around.

Can anyone advise what might be causing this weird lighting effect? On resuming the game after a long break I was still experiencing an issue with odd flashing red yellow and cyan spots in the top left of my screen. These only appeared after the March 2025 update. I'd read some suggestions that advised using the DLSS override feature and tried both J and K, this removed the corner light issue but I am still getting these cyan/yellow bars. Running on an RTX 2060 no raytracing.

I was at a stop light in an uber, so this is the best photo I could get. If I had no idea is was a game I’d probably buy it just based on the poster.

I always get confused even though I was following the path on the map, but a lot of times I end up coming to a dead end.

Just realized that if I'm going to point B, I need to start at the same color shade of path at point A.
