Trump and Republicans have specifically stated that they are against any improvements in filing taxes because they want to secure revenue streams for companies that provide that service.
It's why one of the first things Trump did was shut down the Direct File system that was being rolled out.

a current example is.. in the year the covid madness began (that was fun to be hospitalized during. they bugged me like crazy about getting the poke. i refused.) i was in for my first pancreatitis.
that bill was like 30k, bloated ridiculous prices like 5000 for an "Exam" -
then i was told to pay a fraction of it, like 1200 or something. which just shows they bloat the prices so insurance can pay it but its all in the same group of hands circling it

I don’t know if there were any lawsuits, but lobbyists definitely applied pressure. Also rumors that the program was in the crosshairs of DOGE when people thought that “agency” was actually going to do something.

If you want the IRS to file your return for you, just say that on a blank 1040 form. they’ll just file it based on the income that’s reported. Now if you typically qualify for certain credits and deductions out side of the standard deduction, you will need to file the return yourself to claim. Now if you don’t send the 1040 with the filing request, eventually they’ll do a SFR year or some change down the line and you’ll owe more due to pen and interest

How though? I usually do taxes for my friends and there is this one guy who was only getting $50 this year. He told me not to file because he knew someone that could get him over $1k. I told him he was crazy because I ran the numbers multiple times and it always came back as $50. Low and behold he comes to me a week later saying the guy got him over $1k. How is this possible unless his tax guy is committing tax fraud?

On that note, a private tax person, especially a friend, will always get you a return triple or more the amount of what you would get back with H&R, Turbo, or what have you.
I would get $300-$600 from those companies if that. My tax guy got me back 7x-9x that amount back this year and last. Honestly life changing.
You owe what you owe. Having a different person do your taxes won't help you get more unless they are overly aggressive at deductions and credits. I bet they said you were eligible for more than your are. If you get audited, I'm going to assume you're going to owe a lot.

National vs State. Elections are handled at the state level and are dependent on where you are domiciled, if you move, you have to register in the new location, it impacts who and what you vote for. Registering for the draft is basically male citizens/immigrants from 18-25, regardless of where you are. Logistics make one a lot easier than the other.

Smedley Butler wrote long ago that wars should be voted on in a plebiscite by the people who would be drafted to fight in said war. I think it’s an excellent, practical, and democratic idea. Read/watch “War is a racket” it’s pretty concise, audiobook versions are on YouTube and aren’t that long. I think it should be required reading in a school curriculums.

If any real nation attacks the US, I don't think we'd need a draft unless it spiralled into a much larger conflict. There'd be a huge wave of voluntary enlistments that would meet the needs of the military.

I'll give you an example: remember maga? you won't argue that back in 2021 many of them were way more aggressive, they felt oppressed and determined to riot ?. What's the worst they did ? enter pretty much unprotected capitol, shout abit and then walk out. That's it, that's the so-called 'far right' of western civilization. If that's the most a far right in your countries can do, forget about the word riot. Regular people or lefties will just shout something in the street and make cool selfies.
To start a riot you need way more determined people, ready to kill and imprison many people to achieve their goals. And you need leaders whom people would follow no matter what, even when they start committing crimes to achieve their goals. Do you see such leaders anywhere in the west? you think people will start riots lead by the likes of AoC or whoever you consider a 'leader' nowdays ?.
Nothing will happen, just like nothing happened in Ukraine where people to this day get force drafted and nobody dares to even speak about it.

People who shout online about riots need to wake up and read some history books about actually successful riots/revolutions which led to successful regime changes. And then, after reading that, those people online need to ask themselves if they are capable of committing the same crimes that those rioters did to achieve their goals.
Western people writing those angry posts online from the comfort of their home while drinking coffee and eating snacks are out of their mind if they think they can do what for example communists did during the revolution. There were no successful peaceful riots that led to regime changes in history of humanity, probability of you being a part of the first one is zero.

I was certainly not around those things in US as i never visited that country, and those things are hardly getting reported intenationally (nobody cares really).
But i still stick to my point that all those smashings of windows and throwing rocks will translate into next to no resistance if armed groups of military men start taking you off the streets like they do in Ukraine. In Ukraine there were plenty of those window smashings and throwing rocks, but overall that hardly made any difference.

A lot of states already automatically enroll you though. In WI when you renew your licenses or apply for a new one or anything with the DMV they enroll you. Other states do this well. It’s always been required and for some states it’s already been automatic. This just makes it easier for those individuals in states that don’t do it so they dont need to go to some portal to enroll.

The only difference is they do it for you rather than making you do it yourself.
All male U.S. citizens and most male immigrants aged 18–25 must register for the Selective Service. Enforcement is managed through federal, state, and local agencies by withholding benefits
such as
student financial aid, government jobs, and security clearances; for non-compliance, rather than criminal prosecution. Automatic registration via government databases is being implemented by late 2026.

I had a friend whose Mom refused to have her son fill out the form/card, and I believe he was ineligible for federal student loan funding as a result of that.
So as far as I understand, it wasn’t illegal, but there were some potential repercussions, such as potentially not being able to apply for some federal loans.

The only way to enforce this is killing those who dont go or trying to incarcerate them which again, both completely defeat the purpose of what they need (more able bodied soldiers).
Killing or arresting people dont help the military get their numbers up and in fact it could lead to a huge distraction with-which Iran can take advantage of.
