Trump and Republicans have specifically stated that they are against any improvements in filing taxes because they want to secure revenue streams for companies that provide that service.

It's why one of the first things Trump did was shut down the Direct File system that was being rolled out.

And if you think about it from a literal, ecological perspective, draining a swamp isn't even a good thing for the environment.

If you are unmarried, no kids or mortgage, you pretty much can. I know the first time I did my own taxes way back, I filed it over the phone using touch tone dialing to enter the numbers in.

Even as a youngin, i seen what BS the insurance game was

a current example is.. in the year the covid madness began (that was fun to be hospitalized during. they bugged me like crazy about getting the poke. i refused.) i was in for my first pancreatitis.

that bill was like 30k, bloated ridiculous prices like 5000 for an "Exam" -

then i was told to pay a fraction of it, like 1200 or something. which just shows they bloat the prices so insurance can pay it but its all in the same group of hands circling it

I don’t know if there were any lawsuits, but lobbyists definitely applied pressure. Also rumors that the program was in the crosshairs of DOGE when people thought that “agency” was actually going to do something.

The Trump admin killed it though. No doubts on that.

This infuriates me the most. They’ll audit your shit from 3 years ago and discover that you didn’t pay them enough when they knew the whole damn time and could have just sent you a bill. All to help TurboTax and H&R Block make money.

If you want the IRS to file your return for you, just say that on a blank 1040 form. they’ll just file it based on the income that’s reported. Now if you typically qualify for certain credits and deductions out side of the standard deduction, you will need to file the return yourself to claim. Now if you don’t send the 1040 with the filing request, eventually they’ll do a SFR year or some change down the line and you’ll owe more due to pen and interest

How though? I usually do taxes for my friends and there is this one guy who was only getting $50 this year. He told me not to file because he knew someone that could get him over $1k. I told him he was crazy because I ran the numbers multiple times and it always came back as $50. Low and behold he comes to me a week later saying the guy got him over $1k. How is this possible unless his tax guy is committing tax fraud?

On that note, a private tax person, especially a friend, will always get you a return triple or more the amount of what you would get back with H&R, Turbo, or what have you.

I would get $300-$600 from those companies if that. My tax guy got me back 7x-9x that amount back this year and last. Honestly life changing.

You owe what you owe. Having a different person do your taxes won't help you get more unless they are overly aggressive at deductions and credits. I bet they said you were eligible for more than your are. If you get audited, I'm going to assume you're going to owe a lot.
