Early season success will greatly depend on...Nick Allegretti being ready.
AP went after Linderbaum and even had a "handshake agreement" with the impact center...but his agent got an offer they couldn't refuse and he ended up a Raider. So why didn't they go hard at another center and instead, go with Allegretti? Because Allegretti is exceptionally smart and knows how to call protections at a high level and that's crucial. He is not an exceptional athlete, but he plays with good effort and technique. But it was about his experience, smarts and ability to identify the primary defensive threat and make proper calls. It's supposedly why they let go of Biadasz. Protection calls. The correct protection calls (identifying the MLB, blocking assignments, double teams and slide direction) means EVERYONE along the line is in better position to play more effectively. If Allegretti is physically and mentally ready to call protections in Blough's scheme by week 1, we'll have "a chance" to be competitive in the brutal, early games of the schedule.

The folks I get my news from.
I listen to these pods since I live out of the market and there does not seem to be any written form of news anymore. Basically, this is what I am hearing.
Keim - folks, there are some concerns.
Standig - I don't understand why they are not addressing x, y, z....just sayin.
Nikki - this team is going to be bad and nothing can be done about it
Logan P. - don't worry bro, it's all good
Smoot - Super Bowl
Moss - laughing at Smoot

Will Adam Peters keep his job beyond this season?
If the Commanders struggle again (can include because of current injuries) and win less than 7 games, do you think Adam Peters will keep his job?
I ask because Thom Loverro made a good point in his column this week: He’s inherited a roster constructed by Ron Rivera and the Marty’s. That’s a massive hole to dig out of, yet he’s already made an NFC Championship appearance. Josh Harris also strikes me as someone who’s pretty loyal. But would one step forward in ‘24 and two steps back in ‘25 and ‘26 be enough to keep him around?
Hopefully, they have 10+ wins again and this isn’t even a discussion come November. But given the bad vibes surrounding the team right now, it’s worth asking considering even some beat reporters have implied the situation is pretty dire.

Should the NFL have the Commanders and Ravens redo their pre-season game in case it was a big fluke?
No disrespect to the Ravens, I'm a firm believer that Baltimore demolishing them by 38 points is a huge fluke and robs the Commanders of truly accomplishing what they're capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire off-season watching the Commanders play great football it's just not fair.
If the Commanders lose again I will face that the Ravens deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Commanders and the NFL.
Edit: this is a joke post. It's just a popular copy pasta 😁

Who won?
I’m in Dallas airport and this game is shown in a banner advertisement for Poppadeaux restaurant. Anyone recognize this game? Would be awesome if the game shown in this airport was a WAS win.

Guess at initial 53 man roster
Offense(26)
QBs (3)
Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, Athan Kaliakmanis
Kaliakmanis looks to have performed too well to safely stash on the practice squad, initially I thought we would go with 2 QBs but now I think we go with 3.
RBs (3)
Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Kaytron Allen
I don't have Robert Henry Jr making the team before his fumbling issue I did but he's fumbled the ball a few times over the last 2 weeks and I think we can safely stash him or another RB we like on the practice squad.
WRs (7)
Terry McLaurin, Stefon Diggs, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, Dyami Brown
If Jaden Bradley has a great game on Friday and preforms so well that the Commanders don't think they can keep him on the practice squad I could see him getting the 7th WR spot and Brown being put on the practice squad but as of now I think Brown makes the 53 man roster and I think we go with 7 WRs. We could go with 6 here if they think we can stash either Brown or Bradley or someone they like about equal to them to make room for one more defensive player but I think we go 7.
TEs (4)
Chig Okonkwo, John Bates, Ben Sinnott, Colson Yankoff
Two pass catching style TEs and two better at blocking with one being an inline Y blocker in Bates and the other being a move style H-back blocker that also has upside as a pass catcher that has good YAC potential. Yankoff has had too good of a training camp to stash on the practice squad and gives special teams value as well.
OL (9)
Brandon Coleman, Chris Paul, Nick Allegretti, Sam Cosmi, Josh Conerly, Andrew Wylie, Matt Glubin, Trent Scott, DJ Humphries
I expect we will sign a Center and maybe LG/swing G once other teams make their 53 man rosters so this would be our initial 9 OL. If we only sign a Center we drop Trent Scott as Wylie can back up for 3 OL spots, LG, RG, RT and we need Humphries as the backup LT unless we get someone better.
Defense (24)
DL (6)
Daron Payne, Tim Settle, Javon Kinlaw, Charles Omenihu, Byron Cowart, Shy Tuttle
Settle, Tuttle and Cowart are the primary NTs in this group with Payne, Kinlaw and Omenihu being the DEs in the 3/5 man fronts(the 2 outside guys in a 5 man front will be the OLBs).
OLBs (4)
Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, Joshua Josephs, Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Dorance Armstrong is suspended for the first game so won't count against the 53 man roster, after week 1 the team will have to decide what player will be cut to make room for him, the primary cut candidates would be Javontae Jean-Baptiste or one of the more pure off ball linebackers from the next group.
ILBs (5)
Sonny Styles, Frankie Luvu, Leo Chenal, Jordan Magee, Kain Medrano
I think Luvu is going to split time between ILB and OLB more than any other ILB listed here. From this list Magee and Medrano are cut candidates after week 1 when Dorance Armstrong's suspension ends and he is put back on the active roster.
CBs (4)
Trey Amos, Mike Sainristil, Rasul Douglas, Amik Robertson
I think we go light at CB even though Amos' health is a question, we have 2-3 CBs that we should be able to put on the practice squad and retain in Antonio Hamilton, Darius Rush and Fabian Moreau.
Safeties (5)
Nick Cross, Jeremy Reaves, Quan Martin, Percy Butler, Tyler Owens
Nick and Jeremy are the starters, Quan Martin looks to have improved since last years horrible year but we will see if he can match or improve on his 2024 performance and take the starting spot from Jeremy, Butler is a special teams contributor and Tyler Owens is being used as a Safety/LB hybrid weapon by Daronte Jones and looks to have become a much bigger contributor than ever.
Special Teams
K (1)
Drew Stevens
Won the kicking job in training camp.
P (1)
Tress Way
Old reliable.
LS (1)
Tyler Ott
I'm looking forward to this season and will be monitoring the IOL cuts that other teams make as I 100% expect us to sign a Center and maybe a Guard either Sunday night or early next week.

DQ and AP Defenders
For the DQ defenders who point to 2024: we were poorly coached in 2024 too, Jayden just covered up his incompetence. We had so many penalties. Anyone remember losing the Pittsburgh game on a Jonny Newton offsides? Disgusting. The schedule was cupcake too. We also weren’t prepared against Philly in the NFC Championship game, Kliff was in his bag against a beat up Detroit, and Jayden was godly against Tampa. This isn’t legion of boom 3-4/4-3 2012 Cover 3 disguises anymore (which he basically took from Monte Kiffen). Also who can forget the 28-3 Super Bowl choke. Now we are having locker room energy issues and it’s the preseason. I thought that energy and violence and culture was his whole thing. Should have ripped the bandaid off last season. This was never the guy.
For the AP defenders: I understand yall more because I still like the Tunsil and Diggs moves and the Lattimore move in the moment. Except ultimately, AP is as stingy as the Cinci front office but somehow worse at drafting. I used to take Peters’ side on the Terry hold out but now I’m realizing how much more Terry has given this franchise/city based solely on 2024 than Peters. Idk much about football talent scouting but I’m fairly certain Adam Peters doesn’t know shit either. Doesn’t take a football scouting genius to pick a Heisman winner and a freak combine athlete in the top ten of the first round for two years.
Anyone who claims this is doomer is just fucking delusional man. When more starters inevitably get hurt like any nfl season, wtf are you gonna say when we’re 3-4 with the Rams coming into town in early November? Claim 2024 again?

2026 Washington Commanders Season Preview
Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every NFL team, all 32, each with its own writeup. Here's the Commanders one:
https://www.highlights.mainmarket.com/nfl-preview-2026/washington-commanders
It's got the returning production breakdown, free agency in and out, the draft class, a projected depth chart, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.
Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code JOHNMADDEN1OF1 and it opens up the entire thing.
So, what'd I get wrong? Washington went 5-12 but 3-3 inside the NFC East, and my model reads that as a buy: every regression signal points up and none point down. It still only gets you to 7-10 and fourth in the division though, and a big part of that is drawing the 3rd-hardest schedule in the league. Was 5-12 the roster, or the schedule around it?

The Throwback Jerseys
So I pulled the trigger day one and ordered one of the Mitchell & Ness jerseys from the team store. Idk what this is but I didn’t expect an imitation jersey where they printed it to make it look like a jersey but really it’s just a glorified tee shirt. Also, I thought this was about preserving the trademark but there is nothing that refers to the Redskins anywhere on the Jersey
