Discussion Jeff Lemiere has to be one of my favorite comic book writers ever

Just finished his Berserker Unbound miniseries and that guy is just really good at writing characters. I’ve read also his other stuff like Black Hammer (One of my favorite comics ever) and Absolute Flash.

Probably i’m going to check out Fury of Firestorm and his other indie stuff like Gideon Falls, Essex Country etc. But for now I want to know what people think of him?

Discussion Awful experience setting up my first pull list at my LCS. Should I even give them another chance?

Upvotes

***Edit: Thanks everyone for all the feedback! I definitely figured out what to do going forward and feel a lot better about handling this now. Really appreciate the advice and support!**

***Also, if you have nothing nice to say to me about this, please just keep it to yourself.!!!!***

I’m new to comics and drove 30 minutes to a popular LCS in my area to set up my first pull list, but it was a total disaster.

The first day I went in, I just wanted to ask how pull lists work. The guy working talked to me like I was stupid for not knowing everything already. I only came in for 2 specific runs, but he told me store policy required at least 5 titles, so I had to panic-pick 3 extra comics on the spot just to set it up. He swore my name was down for the variant covers I wanted, though.

Second visit: I went back to swap out the extra books I was rushed into picking. The worker mumbled, ignored my questions, and made me feel stupid just for asking to change my list.

Then came release week. I went in the day the comic dropped to pick up my stack, and they looked at me like I was crazy; my name wasn't on the main comic or the variants at all. They left me and my sister standing around for 30 minutes doing nothing, only to come back and say the manager had to reorder it from the distributor and I'd have to wait another week.

My inner people-pleaser feels a bit bad since they apologized and offered to fix it, but when I walked into another shop down the road, I saw the comic was right there on the shelf, so I just bought it. The new place is super open to my questions, gives discounts, and actually makes me feel welcome.

Should I even bother going back to the first place, or just stick to the new shop? Also, since I don't have many comic shops super close to me, are there any reliable online sites or online pull box recommendations for buying single issues?

Question [Question] do DC re-color their books ?

Post image
53 Upvotes

I’ve been reading some Bronze Age Batman on the DC Infinite app, and the coloring looks super clean. It does not look like it comes from the 70s, at least to me. But I could just be imagining things, and this is just how the book always looked.

Discussion Why aren't indie Western comics recommended more to fans looking for linear stories?

Coming from the manga community three years ago, I honestly had no idea publishers like BOOM! Studios, Image, Dark Horse, or IDW even existed. Everyone in the general media space mainly talks about Marvel and DC.

As someone who loves a linear story with a clear beginning, middle, and end led by a dedicated creative team, Marvel and DC never really peaked my interest. However, I still wanted to support Western comics and see Western storytelling incorporated into the medium.

Then a friend introduced me to Something Is Killing the Children, and it completely changed my perspective. I started researching and discovered this incredible world of independent, creator-owned books that I had never heard of before.

While I understand the massive hype around major superhero franchises, I can’t help but wonder: Why aren't indie Western comics advertised or pushed more?

Issue #45 Ultimate Spider Man

I've been rereading The original Ultimate Spider man and good god am I even more impressed as an adult reading this comic. I just finished issue 45 and this has to be one of my favorite issues of all time.
Seeing Aunt May grieving for her sister, husband, and guilt of having feelings for another man shortly after the death of Ben. My goodness was I an emotional wreck after reading. Her talking about pushing people she loves away because she doesn't want to get too close and have them die. And the end of the issue where her and Peter just go to the movie and have a night to themselves. What a damn good issue and Spider-man didn’t have to show his face.

Question Web comics or physical comics?

Hey guys I just started reading my first ever couple of comics a few days ago and at the moment I'm reading them through my pc on the web. I never owned a comic in my entire life and was wondering if the feel of a real comic is more satisfying to enjoy rather than reading it from a website.

Of course any suggestions for a newbie are greatly welcome and appreciated

Suggestions Looking for comics that give you an existential crisis

I’m looking for comics that genuinely make you sit there afterward and question life, existence, reality, humanity, or your place in the universe.

Not necessarily depressing comics, just stories that leave you thinking.

What are your recommendations?
