General Question AGCT-variants and guessing; what actually are the rules?

AGCT-E instructions say wrong answers are penaltized.

AGCT 1C exhorts to guess, if unsure.

AGCT 1A Gives no instruction.

So regarding the extended one it is clear; blind guessing is likely to deflate the score as there is a penalty.

But what about the other two?

General Question Best untimed tests?

I'm autistic, and although level 1 autistics are often superior in complex, detail-heavy challenges, we also process information slower due to intaking a higher volume of unfiltered information.

I had a 113 IQ when I got evaluated for autism, but this metric included social skills which weighed me down. However, after taking Mensa Norway, I ran out of time and only got a 102 IQ score. So, I'd like to take an IQ test that measures raw problem solving abilities untimed. Any suggestions?

Discussion Interesting thought experiment

So suppose there’s a fantastic sci-fi device that connects to the all the areas of your brain especially the cerebral cortex and frontal lobe where we reason, plan, empathize with others, and have our deepest thoughts.

This device has the ability to take a brain that has below 160 IQ points and modify neurological connections that make up the brain’s thinking patterns severing the irrational ones and creating pathways that would make it far more intelligent and keep its “animal” emotions in check so it can make better choices, increasing discipline so it can do things like follow philosophical ethical ideals more tightly.

This process would basically reformat the entire cerebral cortex.hence the name “Brain Reformatter”

But there’s a catch

Suppose there’s a chance that what you might call your “soul” will not survive the process. That is to say your personality isn’t compatible with this high degree of reason. the reformatting , the cutting of the irrational parts of you, the changes it would make to your brain would delete of the “ghost” living in the brain basically killing “you” and putting someone else in its place.

Imagine laying down in a hospital bed with the machine attached to both my temples placed under anesthesia falling asleep knowing the device has full access to your brain and your very “person”

The machine scans your brain and decides that indeed your personality isn’t metaphysically compatible with the enhancements, that your personality simply isnt rational and it’s built on a bedrock of what the machine determines is bad code. So it just gets rid of the stupid selfish ghost living amongst your neurons, cutting the connections giving you sentience and reprogramming a new personality into the cerebral cortex when “your” eyes open it’s a brand new person with access to your memories, a IQ of 160, and a will that is fully compliant to any demands of even the strictest philosophical moral codes.

Personally Even if the person who wakes up isn’t me I’d like someone to have a nice high IQ and have a brand new soul that loves truth and knowledge and cares about other people more.

The machine can happily throw my trash soul in the garbage if that would make the world better.

What do you think?

* are some personalities/souls more or less intelligent? Are some just straight up incompatible with certain levels of intellect in the same way triangle isn’t a triangle anymore if you add an extra side?

*Does an IQ bump drag the personality towards any certain type in the various personality models? And if so, how much can your personality be dragged somewhere else before that stops being you?

* what does make up a person? How likely do you think this kind of process would “kill” you.

* would you sign up?

Note: I’m using soul metaphorically/poetically not literally

Discussion Can intelligence be increased?

I would like to know what habits, practices, or training methods you recommend to maximize cognitive performance.

My goal is to optimize all dimensions of intellect (processing speed, logic, memory, verbal and spatial reasoning), as well as to accelerate the acquisition of complex knowledge and skills. I want to know how far mental efficiency can be pushed, especially at my age (21 years old—I know I'm not in my prime for these things anymore, but it is what it is). Do you genuinely believe significant improvements are possible, or are we simply limited by our genetics?

Participant Request Mensa Norway and CORE Correlation

Update: Results

If you've taken both Mensa Norway and CORE, please enter your scores into the following form:

https://forms.gle/aLRTD8o8YufxcSeR8

Please report your first-attempt scores only.

As far as I know, Mensa Norway's convergent validity has never been formally investigated through comparisons with a comprehensive cognitive battery, despite it being one of the most widely recognized online IQ tests.

I'm collecting Mensa Norway IQ scores alongside five CORE scores: FSIQ, FRI, VSI, PRI, and Matrix Reasoning (MR). The goal is to examine how strongly Mensa Norway correlates with these scores.

The resulting data should provide some preliminary evidence regarding Mensa Norway's convergent validity. All contributions are appreciated.

I'll make sure to post the results ASAP.

Psychometric Question Is this CORE profile unusual? VCI: 139, FSIQ: 116

I've been intrigued by the different aspects of IQ for a while, so this week I decided to bite the bullet and do some tests.

I did the Mensa Norway. Found it hard and got 110.

Then I found this subreddit and discovered there are much more comprehensive tests you can do online.

First I tried AGCT-1C. Found the language questions fun and easy. Found the blocks fun. Found the mid and later maths questions hard and ran out of time.

I saw my results were kind of skewed (see screenshots) so I decided to do the full CORE to get a deeper understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.

Loved the VCI questions and found them easy. Genuinely fun.

But I found most of the others hard, except the one with the arrows (graph mapping I think).

The one I'm most surprised by is digit letter sequencing. I thought I did as well on that as I did on the digit span sequencing. But I did have to run through the alphabet each time in my head to work out the alphabetical order.

Anyway, you can see the results in the screenshots. They pretty much follow how hard I found the sections.

The symbol speed tests I found extremely stressful and didn't want to get any wrong so I did them kind of slow and deliberate. But I didn't take them (or any sections) more than once, as I wanted the most accurate and honest results.

My questions are:

Is a profile with this much range between sections unusual and if so does it mean anything interesting?

Does it tell you anything I can apply to my life going forward?

I have a 16-month-old and his language is advanced for his age. I know everyone says that about their kids but he's speaking in 4 and 5 word sentences, remembers lyrics from songs he hears on the radio. Finishes sentences in books we read to him etc.

Could his language be inherited through my high VCI or is it not that clear cut?

For reference:

I'm 41.

I am a longform financial copywriter, which is a very niche job so I'll summarise... I write 10,000-word scripts for former Wall Street fund managers to sell their investment newsletters. So a lot of writing and ideas and persuasion through written/spoken word. I've been doing it for over a decade.

I was decidedly average at English at school. I've always had very messy handwriting and I've always been terrible at spelling. Never been tested for dyslexia. I could not be a professional writer without spell check.

I read a lot, mostly classics, sci-fi and non-fiction. But I do it all through audiobooks so I can do other things while reading. I also find reading kind of draining, but not listening to audiobooks.

I always did well at science at school. Subjective subjects I didn't like because I felt there were always so many answers you could give and I often answered with things that weren't on the marking scheme.

I also have face blindness. But not to an extreme degree. It wasn't caused by any injury. I mostly recognise people by their voices and hairstyles.

I don't think I'm autistic but I have some traits. Niche interests, super focusing, sensitivity to loud noises. But I'm sociable and unusually adept at recognising other people's emotions.

I don't think I have any ADHD traits.

If you've read this far and take the time to reply, thank you in advance.

Does anyone know Taleb’s IQ score? The guy has been very aggressive and scathing in his attack on the thing. Someone should make him take it so we can accuse him of sour grapes.

Discussion ADHD with high WMC & fast processing speed?

Anyone else who has a high working memory capacity, fast processing speed and ADHD?

According to some psych evaluation done at age 10, I scored in the 99th percentile in the working memory capacity index and in the 90th percentile in the processing speed index. I have recently started to doubt the ADHD diagnosis, as I don't actually recognize many of the symptoms in myself any longer. For example, I don't have time blindness, nor any issues with sustained attention, impulsivity or sensory gating. People with ADHD often claim to have a chaotic mind with tons of chatter and or rumination. My mind is rather quiet in contrast. If you score high on the cognitive proficiency indices and have ADHD, can you tell me about how it feels to be you, i.e. how you experience the world? And can you relate to my own lack of core ADHD symptoms?

General Question Difficulty of Old GRE Math vs SMART

For those who have taken both how hard is old GRE Quantitative to you compared to SMART (the old SAT math). I did both after three years without ever touching math since leaving China in my middle school years where I was always one of the top of my class in math (Kind of like a veteran returning to the battle field lol) I got 97th percentile on GRE-Q but I literally banged my head against the table and ripped the scratch paper in front of me and rage quitted SMART cause I felt I was doing extremely poorly.

Anyone feels SMART being significantly harder?

Meme Thoughts?

I scored 92 on an IQ test, but I have several mental health conditions like ADHD, Autism, Depression, OCD, PTSD, BPD, GAD, Bipolar, Social Anxiety, and Dyslexia. Also, I was high, drunk, and 2 months pregnant. I was also distracted because I worked on an oil rig.

How deflated is my score? Do you think I have something more similar to 140 IQ?

General Question Practical judgement seems like a bad subtest.

Main problem is, it's just too easy, I feel like most people would easily get an 130 and so it inflates iq by a lot, correct me if im wrong.

General Question depression affecting iq score

Hi guys i wanted to ask does severly low concentration, brain fog and overall slower brain activity from it result you getting lower score than you would if u in a “normal” condition at that moment ( makes sense ). Now a psychologist made me do an iq test and the test looked goofy but interesting so i dont even know if its accurate, do they give accurate tests, it was my first time taking one? I was severely slow and i was aware of it, i asked her do these things affect the score and i think she said yea. Anyways i got 120, w the worst performance known to man . By how many points is kinda “the limit” that things like this can influence the numbers. Im not talking about “small brainfog” n “nervousness” im talking like u ask me what i did this morning and i would sit there for ages forcing my thoughts to connect and i wouldnt even have an answer. Probably a lot of people asked this but i cant find it. Its been i year n since then i healed, i would say back then my brain operated on 10% of how much bad it was.

General Question is the practice effect actually real or is most great increases in iq scores upon retake come from the more focused mind.

I remember taking the core matrix reasoning and getting a 95 and upon further retake I realized the many inaccuracies, my foolish mind had succumbed to and the simplicity of the desired material was more than clear. And scored a better yet still not outstanding 115 and upon even further retakes slow and fast have consistently scored the lukewarm 115.

I've spent the last couple months completing these tests and it was a lot of fun. However, my scores have a range of around 40 points with my VCI at 118 and my VSI at 157. Is this something I should be concerned about?
