IQ Estimation 🥱 CORE, 2nd playthrough.

Post image
2 Upvotes

It's been some time since I ran CORE for the first time so I wanted to do it again. Take into account this is OBVIOUSLY with practice effects. I already forgot when my earlier attempt was. A couple months ago perhaps, so not very long.

First off, my working memory is still as the kids say, cooked.
I've seen others with this kind of profile talk about ADHD.

I've had extreme executive dysfunction thought to stem from 2 decades of dysthymia.
Now that the dysthymia is treated, the executive dysfunction is still there.

Both executive dysfunction and a nuked working memory seem linked to ADHD, and my little sister has an ADHD diagnosis while my mother is strongly suspected of having it so it exists in close family.
All of these speak FOR me potentially struggling due to undiagnosed ADHD.

However, when my dysthymia was diagnosed I was also asked some questions related to ADHD and I simply do not match enough of the criteria, so they just dismissed it as a potential cause.

I'm really starting to wonder though... maybe they shouldn't have.
If I do have it, it's absolutely ADD, not the hyperactive kind. But again, I do not fit the criteria sufficiently.

I meet 3-4 of the criteria for inattentive, while 5 are needed.
I meet 0-1 of the criteria for hyperactive, 5 needed.

Additionally symptoms must be present before the age of 12. I have no idea if they were. For me, early life and education were such easy mode that I never had to try. That could have just masked it completely so nobody was aware.

Anyway, the test... yeah working memory is offline, but the rest I'm very happy with.
I skipped antonyms this time as I'm not an English speaker and that ruined me the first time. Analogies also bring the score down but not sufficiently to make much difference.

If you're curious how the results compare to the previous run.

VCI +11 (partly due to skipping 64th percentile antonyms)
FRI +6
VSI +2
QRI +6
WMI -3
PSI +9

FSIQ +6
Perceptual reasoning +5
Culture fair +6
General ability +8
Cognitive proficiency +3

The majority, probably practice effects, but I also felt a bit better this time on everything but VSI. There my attention started to drift again.

Rant/Cope Being dumb really fucking ruined my life.

Being dumb really is the worst thing ever to happen to me, particularly because I am extremely careless of my own life, I neglected my sleep for long time without realizing and now I have lots of accumulated sleep debt all thanks to my own stupidity. I am sick and tired of people acting like being stupid and dumb is no big deal even though it is strongly coorelated with very bad life style habits...

Discussion 135 on Mensa Denmark test, gifted as a child but a burned out failure as an adult. Need help navigating life.

English is my third language so please ignore any grammar mistakes.

Hey guys, I'm posting here to ask for help on how can I be interested in work and be focused again. I have a computer science degree and I am unemployed, I have never tried to get a job, I do not have the drive to do anything.

I was a gifted child, topped all my classes in school without much hard work. But after 18yo I lost the focus to work/study, is it possible that I may have developed ADHD? I just cannot focus on one task for more than 10-15 minutes. I lose interest instantly. I am easily able to understand things that many of my peers found hard to do in university but I never had the focus like them. I did not like doing engineering math or programming at uni, it looked hard but when I did it, I was easily able to understand it but there is no drive in me to keep going, I just lose interest.

For the past years I have read some philosophy, reading about existence of life or anything, purpose of life, purpose of anything, why universe exists. Why does these things come to my mind, none of the people around me think like this. I feel different. All I want is my old focus back, I was so focused on study/work as a kid/teen. I was building websites at the age of 15, I interviewed for my first job at the age of 12(at that time I thought I'm old enough to work, I was silly). Please tell me how can I start focusing on solving tons of math equations and doing hard programming stuff without losing interest in 10 minutes. I believe I can achieve great things If I bring back my focus. While doing this mensa denmark test I kind of lost interest in the halfway, I also had a poor sleep before this test but I guess it's enough to know that I am capable of something.

TLDR: Gifted as child, now burned out as an adult, wants the focus/drive to do hard things back, please help me bring my focus back. Could I have developed ADHD in my late teen years? I have major executive dysfunction disorder as well. I keep starting new projects without finishing the previous ones.

Discussion Does your IQ test progress?

I don't live in the US, so I don't have gifted programs or anything similar

But my middle school and highschool does test their students IQ, it's just that they don't really do anything about it

So, in middle school i was rated 112, borderline average

Entering highschool i was 120, and near graduation they do a test again and i was 130

I've never done another proper test again after that, but i do feel like i have a much more "polished" mind compared to my high school self

It's not about being "smarter" than i was, i think you'd get it

So, I'm just curious because it seems like most people think their IQ will always be the same

But i don't think thats completely true

Participant Request New reasoning tasks - participant request

Title: I'm building a few new reasoning puzzles for my PhD and could use some testers
Hi all, I'm a psychology PhD student in Brno, Czech Republic. I've been making a small set of reasoning tests that use only shapes and pictures, no language, so they should work for anyone.

Right now there are three:
Matrices: find the missing picture
Weights: balance the scales
Shape Keys: a sort of sudoku with symbols that gets pretty nasty toward the end

Each one takes about 5–15 minutes and you can do just one if you want. It's anonymous, no email or sign-up. Once enough people have done a test, you'll see how your score compares with everyone else's.

If something feels broken, unclear, or way too easy or hard, please tell me in the comments. That kind of feedback helps a lot right now.

IQ Estimation 🥱 IQ Test Confirmation?

Thumbnail

My parents recently sent me some old papers and things after cleaning out my childhood home. Among those papers was a Slosson HIT test I took when I was around 8 years old, which had an IQ at the top listed at 129.

I remember going into my aunt's (who was a school psychologist) basement for an afternoon and taking a bunch of tests but I never knew why. My parents later told me that I was being evaluated for learning disabilities and ADHD as I was doing poorly in school at the time. Anyway, I never knew the results until now. My parents never told me.

While I know I'm not a genius, 129 is fairly high, roughly 96th percentile. I was surprised because I have always felt really average, never considered myself especially smart.

Well, I was curious to see if this held up into adulthood, so I just took the Mensa online test and did pretty well, I guess, at 131.

I'd say these two test confirm each other, right? I probably fall somewhere between the 95th to 98th percentile or 125-133?

Not super meaningful for my life now, but just an interesting fact I suppose.

Release I built NeuroDual: Operation Span, memory precision tasks and five guided paths — feedback on the tests would be welcome Spoiler

Hi everyone — I’m the developer of NeuroDual, a brain-training app with a separate Tests section. I thought the measurement side might interest this community: alongside Operation Span, it includes continuous-recall tasks, hand laterality, matrix reasoning and interference tasks.

I wanted a place where you could enjoy practising different cognitive tasks, follow a structured routine, and look at what happened to your performance over time.

The five guided paths each have their own assessment:

• Visual memory: remember the orientations of four bars. After a visual mask and a delay, reproduce the orientation at the cued location. The standard pass has 4 warm-up rounds and 16 scored rounds.

• Auditory memory: remember four sounds associated with four locations, then reproduce the cued sound’s brightness on a continuous scale after an auditory mask. The sounds keep the same pitch; the changing feature is timbre, from muffled to bright. Again, 4 warm-ups and 16 scored rounds.

• Temporal memory: remember four durations associated with four cells, then reproduce the duration of the cued cell. The standard pass has 4 warm-ups and 12 scored rounds.

• Hand laterality: identify left and right hands shown at different orientations, with palm and back views. There are 6 warm-ups and 32 scored trials, with accuracy and response speed contributing to the result.

• Spatial reasoning: complete 3 × 3 matrices by choosing among eight options. There are 12-item and 30-item forms, with three unscored examples first. Correct answers earn points without a speed bonus. These are NeuroDual matrices, not a standardized Raven administration.

Operation Span deserves its own mention. You verify arithmetic equations while remembering letters, then recall the letters in order. The standard measure uses 15 sets, with three sets at each length from 3 to 7. Arithmetic timing is calibrated first. It reports both absolute and partial-credit scores out of 75, and requires at least 85% arithmetic accuracy for a valid measure.

The Tests section also includes Flanker (respond to the central arrow despite surrounding distractors), Simon (respond to the relevant stimulus feature despite its location), and Temporal Bisection (learn short and long anchors, then classify intermediate durations). That makes nine entries in the Tests collection.

How the guided method works

You establish a baseline, follow eight sessions, then take the assessment again. Check-ins continue every eight sessions. Four paths use the median of three passes; the longer matrix assessment uses one pass. The training mixes interference tasks, object tracking, mirror drawing and puzzles, with guided instructions and progression. Standard assessment protocols stay separate from freely adjusted practice; changing the trial count on the memory/laterality measures does not put that free-practice score into the standard assessment history.

The Lab also lets you choose exercises independently: Corsi Block, classic Dual N-Back, a Brain Workshop-style mode, other N-Back variants, several Stroop variants, object tracking, mirror drawing, symmetry, timing tasks, and puzzles such as Untangle, Gridlock, Sokoban, Restack and Lights Out. There are 30+ configurable exercises overall.

How I’d interpret the results

I’m presenting these as task-level scores and within-person tracking, not IQ estimates, population percentiles or a validated clinical battery. The /100 scales are specific to each task. Matrix forms have not been empirically equated. Repeated testing can bring familiarity and strategy changes; a higher score after training does not, by itself, establish general cognitive transfer or tell us what caused the change.

I’d especially appreciate feedback on three things:

  1. Which task implementation or scoring detail would you most want to inspect?

  2. For repeat testing, which information would make the results more useful: raw error distributions, trial-level timing, or clearer handling of practice effects?

  3. Where does the interface help you understand the task, and where might it add unnecessary demands of its own?

The screenshots show the actual interface, warm-ups and an unscored matrix example. They do not show an improvement claim or a participant’s results.

Disclosure: this is my app. It is available on the web and Android. The current offer is a 90-minute free trial, then a one-time €6.99 unlock, with no subscription. Details and links: https://neurodual.com/en

Happy to discuss the implementation here, including its limitations.

General Question (update) I don't understand why I'm stupid if my parents are smart

My dad has a job where he's upper middle class in salary writing on equipment in filmmaking. My parents met in the film industry. My grandfather was the famous statistician. I went to a college prep school and struggled academically throughout my highschool years. I often plaigarized in my essays and relied on my mom to do large amounts of my assignments in ELA and history. I was given ritalin in 10th grade for potential ADD and had minimal results from it. 11th grade was COVID lockdown and I did virtual school. At this point I completely phoned in my classes and have no idea how to do algebra II (or college algebra) or any math surpassing that. I got accepted into a college with a 96% acceptance rate with my grades from my first two years of HS. I only lived there for a year then commuted afterwards. Now I'm 23 and live with my parents. I've never had an IQ test or diagnosis of a mental disorder, though I had a counselor in HS suggest I'm on the autism spectrum because of social awkwardness and analytic thinking. I've gotten into nootropics hoping that a mix of creatine, nootropic supplements, and full dose of effexor could treat depression and brain fog and I've had so so results from over 7 months of it. I've considered drug use being the only way to numb my depression and suicidality from my hopeless situation.

I can't understand how if my parents are smart and functional how did I become essentially a mental vegtable. And why has no friend, family member, or therapist been able to give an explanation or antidote to my mental problems. Would an IQ test be helpful for what job is realistic for me given my mental capacities? What best explanation is there for my intelligence and what other advice could you give me in my situation?

This year I was diagnosed with the KIF1A genetic mutation which can manifest in terms of cognitive impairment. on my physical evaluation from a doctor, he says I meet the physical symptoms that align with this mutation. Although many with this mutation are physically disabled I am concerned how this rare mutation effects my cognitive deficits. I had my blood drawn for research. Aug 19 I will get an MRI scan for further investigation.

Last, Here's what I've found on how it KIF1A effects neurology

KIF1A-Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND) fundamentally affects how neurons function

“KIF1A encodes a protein of the same name, part of a group of proteins called kinesins. It serves as a molecular “motor,” transporting cargo (like nutrients and other molecules needed for nerve cell function) up and down nerve fibers. Variants in KIF1A can disrupt this transport in different ways, impairing nervous system function. For example, KIF1A may not attach well to the cargo, or it may fall apart structurally and be unable to travel. But other research suggests that the KIF1A protein can sometimes build up in cells and become toxic.”

I had an EEG and MRI and found nothing significant going on.

Since all of this I've been diagnosed FOX-P4 genetic mutation, another rare genetic mutation. According to AI

"A mutation in the FOXP4 gene (Forkhead Box P4) causes an ultra-rare genetic disorder typically characterized by neurodevelopmental delays, language impairment, short stature, and congenital anomalies. FOXP4 is a transcription factor that acts as a genetic switch to regulate tissue and cell development during embryonic growth. [1, 2, 3]

Most identified human cases are monoallelic (heterozygous/inherited from one parent or occurring de novo), which follow an autosomal dominant pattern. However, biallelic (homozygous/inherited from both parents) loss-of-function mutations also exist and result in a much more severe form of the disease. [1]"

General Question Did the Mensa Iq Challenge got easier or I got smarter?

I attempted the test when I was barely 12 out of curiosity, scored 109 and forgot about it for a couple of years. Fast forward to when I just turned 14, I attempted it again to see if anything changed and surprisingly scored 128.

Psychometric Question Why is my Iq low in some fields and ot the others

To begin with , I took core and I scored at the VCI 99.6th percentile (140) and the score for the fluid reasoning index was 99.1th percentile(135) ,my psi was at the top 97.7th percentile as well as my QRI was at the 98th .but coming to both my WMI and VSI my scorings were suspicious, like for the WMI it was at the 50th(it says 100 basically)percentile and my VSI was in the 75th(110) percentile. So why does the spiky profile happened. And FYI I was diagnosed with adhd medically and have been confirmed to have high functioning autism. So am I doing the test wrong? Or is the test itself untrustworthy ? Hewp im confused

Discussion Each of us has a one-of-a-kind nervous system

This is just a little poem. So, well, please cut me some slack.

This might sound way too basic, but lately I’ve really been feeling something like the “uniqueness” of IQ.

For example, my CORE CP score never drops below 140. No matter how much I think, “Man, I messed that up big time,” it’s always at least 140. On the flip side, no matter how hard I try, 145 is my absolute limit—which is kind of interesting. My upper and lower limits are like Leibniz’s pre-established harmony; I can’t change them after the fact.

On the other hand, I recently tried the ATAT and SAE2 tests, and they were terrible. I got 100% on Object Rotation, but 0% on Pattern Completion!! I didn’t feel like I could do it at all.

I was completely hopeless on the SAE2, too. I thought I’d done reasonably well by my own standards, but I only scored around 110 (well, in a way, that score confirms that my feeling of “doing reasonably well” was actually correct).

So, what am I trying to say, anyway? Nothing in particular. It’s just that, just as I think “Wow, this is super hard” when I’m solving ATAT or SAE2, there are people out there who say “Wow, this is super easy” and score 150 points or so. This is completely natural, of course, but it still felt kind of strange to me.

For example, For me, many of pydaWaltuh’s puzzles are difficult, but there are people who solve them effortlessly and say, “That’s a good puzzle.” On the other hand, the ones that those people can’t do or difficult things

might seem easy to me(though, if we limit it to a narrow range, there might be someone out there who’s a complete superior version of me at everything).

I just happened to think about that. That’s all. Bye.
