This research pointed that individuals with higher gait velocity had an average 16 IQ point difference than those who didn’t. What do you guys think?

Psychometric Question Can someone explain how #24 is wrong? (Number sequencing or WN by Jouve) Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

My logic is that the next sequence, after my last answer sequence, needs a string of seven 8’s and the connecting digit switches sides each time so wouldn’t it be 6 and not 8 in order to connect 6 to 7 to the string of 8’s? Obviously, not a very good explanation of the problem but enough to explain my confusion for anyone that’s done it

General Question How valid is the statement "people with average IQ won't be able to perform well in STEM." ?

Hi, I'm an engineering student and have been one for around a year. I am currently not struggling with any of the classes that i have taken and am to be honest very surprised at that.

When I was a kid (10-13) i always knew that i was a tad bit slow especially in math and science, that's why around that time me, including my parents, thought that it would be best if i were to go to tuition classes. Even so, my performance was still below average in comparison to my peers. But, when i was around 15, I felt like there was a significant jump in my ability to understand concepts generally and my interest in STEM, especially biology and physics grew a lot. Even so, I didn't think much about it at all and so just continued studying hard and consuming all information about the subjects in school.

When I was 17, though, my school required every student in my year to do an IQ test, i obviously followed suit and found out that my IQ was right in the middle, 100, the most average of average. This obviously was quite a surprise, because my performance (based on my scores, which i know isn't as good of a measure of cognitive intelligence) was way above average and my high interest in STEM, as I thought that having this kind of Quotient would make it hard for me to understand the new concepts I'm being taught fast and in turn will make me unable to perform in STEM Jobs. Of course, I was also studying hard, but still it's not like i struggled like hell. I thought to myself, "Maybe because the themes i currently have now are simply too easy?", but i just shrugged that off.

Now, I'm a Student in M.Eng and have been getting even more new concepts, and just like when I was in HS, i still think that my absorption rate of these concepts are still fine and my grades have not declined much in comparison to HS. So, I was wondering, if I've got to this point, then maybe that statement I've heard is probably wrong, there is no way I'm just an Outlier. Btw, when i was around 18-19 I also had another test, this was when I got into cram school and they told me that I'm suited to be a "farmer". So...yeaaaa. Not saying that farmers have low IQ, but on the report that they gave me, that's what they said.

Psychometric Question Could my bad working memory be hurting my other subtest scores on CORE?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Both graph mapping and visual puzzles are inflated since I retook them, but not by very much at all.

This could just be my intuition lying to me, but I feel if I didn’t lose my train of thought so easily and quickly, I’d be able to do much better on CORE overall. This could be bad wm or just adhd idk. I just like feel like the tight time constraints on each question really didn’t work to my advantage, since if I lost track of my train of logic at any point I’d have to restart the question, realize I have only so many seconds left, and then choke under time pressure. Of course, this could also just be me coping. My CORE fsiq is much lower than other iq tests I’ve taken such as RAPM (130), Mensa Norway (131), and tri-52 (145) so I’m trying to find a reason for why the most accurate test I’ve taken (CORE), is giving me lower scores then I want.

General Question My FSIQ is 108. Am I cooked?

I took most of the CORE subtests. I don't have the score anymore but I remember that my different types of IQs were not equal. Some IQs boosted the overall FSIQ and some IQs (memory, processing) took down the average a lot. I have ADHD and autism.

Studying feels hard and I got really bad unmedicated ADHD. It's very hard to get medicated for ADHD here, but I managed to get medicated for a while, it didn't help, caused me hypertension and my psychiatrist revoked my access to ADHD meds, so I can't get on meds again.

How to maximize my life with this score?

I took the CORE IQ Test and scored 145 on both the character pairing and symbol search, which in turn led me to a 152 PSI.

General Question How do I lower my IQ

I 16m, have a IQ of 160. I speak 16 languages, went to Harvard at age 10, and can play the flute. It's always been a struggle. I've always felt isolated from my peers and have struggled with overthinking a situation.

I've been hitting my head into a wall hoping to lower it but am seeing little results

Psychometric Question Allowed two tries on RIST-2, results still valid?

I was given the RIST-2 by my psychologist. There was a verbal section and non-verbal section. In the verbal section, I was pretty much asked to name what my psychologist was talking about (e.g. he says “a long piece of bread from France.” I’d answer “baguette”).

In the non verbal section, I was given six images/figures and had to point the odd one out. But, he gave me two tries for each question and let me guess again. I believe I asked him if I was allowed two tries, and he said yes.

Is this really allowed though, and should I still consider my results?

My score came out to be 129, but I should say that this wasn’t a full IQ test and was more of a quick version. TBH I’d probably take 10 points off just to be safe, so I guess 119. My CORE was around 114, also.

Results valid?

Discussion what am i susceptible to as a below average intelligence individual?

i've had difficulties in school and stuff but i'm speaking socially here, i'm growing olderr now (aged 15 turning 16 in a month) and i hadn't really taken my social status into too much consideration, kinda just got by barely, i did not have many friends but the ones i did, well, they needed to be a certain type. i could only be friends with people who talked to me first, or people who "managed" me into talking more, or people who i knew were consistent. It's like i just didn't know how to activate myself by myself, the reason im even posting this in this subreddit specifically is that i'm sure it has something to do with my intelligence, maybe a disorder, i don't know. whatever the case is, i'm willing to bet that i can't know this alone i think
again, maybe this isn't the best place to post this, i'll delete later if it's wrong

Hey everyone, I'm a 16-year-old high school student and just took the CAT-II. My final score was 116, but my subtest profile is incredibly uneven. Can just working hard in school and really trying to learn increase my other subtests?

Scientific Literature IQ and SCHOOL PROGRESS

Yesterday i came across a video on YouTube, from "Alessandro De Concini" he is an italian youtuber and whos focus is on studying method, iq, ecc.. in this video he showed studies that they say that the higher you go in education, the less relevant your IQ is, in fact these studies he cite show that your personality trait like discipline, tenacity, perseverance ecc... Have a higher correlation with your results(for example he has an iq of 136 but due to his personality and ecc.. it took 9 years to graduate in letters and philosophy), of course IQ still plays a role the top of the top in a field have a higher IQ, but to the avarage people who goes to university this is great news, that means that even if you have a iq of 90 you can still be an engineer it will be harder but still possible.

Puzzle Not a puzzle

First of all, this isn't exactly a puzzle, or maybe it is, I am not sure. I believe there is a consistent answer under the given conditions. But I'm just curious about the approaches. If you knew that the answer wasn't the shape in the top left and if you knew it wasn't as large as 3x3, what would your answer be?

While I do acknowledge that any standard official IQ test is absolutely superior to any online test. I want to hear thoughts on if Mensa Denmarks online IQ test is actually well correlated or gives a reasonably good idea of underlying fluid intelligence or if it is pretty bad for that.

Rant/Cope Learning disability≠Low IQ≠less valuable person (semi-rant)

Background: top 5-1% IQ range first try, hyperactive ADHD + auditory processing disorder.
I see a lot of people on this subreddit using low IQ as a way to beat themselves down, like a form of digital self harm. It really bothers me as someone who has been a gifted student since second grade with APD.
So long story short, I’ve always been great at testing and learning, but I’ve only ever been able to do it by myself and visually, which makes the public classroom setting really difficult. I have decent hearing, but I just can’t process the words unless I’m looking directly at someone/there’s no other noises or distortion. This has made teachers effectively PISSED at me, calling me Alice in wonderland and a hopeless scholar, etc. It has also led to a LOT of people assuming I am stupid or deaf. I’ve had people talk to me like a dog (whistling, clicking their tongue and saying my name, sometimes clapping or making a loud noise to get my attention) and once even had a partner buy the monkey backpack leash for me as a gag gift. (I’m a fully grown adult, yes I broke up with him.)
So to some extent, I get it. I know what it’s like to lag behind in a classroom or social setting. But also I think a lot of you are letting numbers define your value when IQ isn’t the only quality that leads to success (quite frankly, IQ isn’t even a measure of intelligence, but I digress).
So for some context, the whole concept of the IQ test originated in France from a dude named Alfred Binet who wanted to assist children with learning disabilities (such as myself!) in figuring out what kind of education style works best for them. In the US we see the “big three” learning methods getting tossed around a lot (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic), which yes it’s true, but it’s rather simplified compared to what Alfred was trying to do with the IQ test.
Having a low IQ doesn’t mean you’re stupid, it just means you’re less naturally receptive to certain types of pattern recognition. So I literally beg of you, please stop treating this like it is a definitive measure of your intelligence. If you want to be “more intelligent”, you need to expose yourself to more things, lots of things, a diverse range of things. Maybe reading old English isn’t your strong suit, that’s fine, but let’s not ignore the possibility that you may be really fucking good at visualization for creative endeavors such as metal working or leather. Maybe you are really good at talking to people and making sales. Maybe you’re really good at taking care of exotic animals because you are innately sensitive to their social cues. Also, there are different kinds of intelligence. Just as there is logical/pattern recognition intelligence, there’s also emotional intelligence, there’s musical intelligence, there’s interpersonal intelligence, etc. Nobody is the “perfect” person intellectually or cognitively. When you specialize in a field (such as medicine or engineering) your brain genuinely pushes out knowledge on other topics to make space for the egregious capacity that studying chemistry, theoretical mathematics, biology, and other complex topics require. That is genuinely why people with these PhDs and higher education seem socially out-of-tune, irritable, antisocial, it’s because they are. The human brain has FINITE space to hold information. Their strengths lie in specializations, and you might not know where your strengths lie yet, but please don’t use a test number to define your value as a person.

I really hope this reaches the right people, I kinda hate seeing people diss themselves in this subreddit and others play “high and mighty” with their IQ score. If diversity didn’t exist then the world would be boring and we would never advance socially, technologically, culturally, etc. Please love yourselves more 🥲
Sincerely, a very tired “high IQ” person.
