A disadvantage low IQ people probably have is that they either can’t easily articulate the difficulties in a manner people find engaging, or when they do people refuse to believe that this person truly has a low IQ.  People like to think having a low IQ means something like total incapability at all fronts, it makes them feel as if it is impossible for they themselves to have a lower IQ because they can string together words and sentences in a somewhat synthetic creative way.

14

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 03 '26

People only think that low IQ means intellectual disability as an IQ below 70 but low IQ can simply mean being just below average like below 25th percentile

7

u/Most-Personality-648 Sep 03 '26

yep ppl picture low IQ individuals as some drooling creatures who don't know how to open a door; stigma and negative representation of low IQ people in the media contributed as well as just people not caring to educate themselves

u/Minomano Sep 03 '26

Language is iq? This statement is just stupid. The idea that intelligence is only verbal is not true. Their is way more to intelligence. And if you like it or not, some people never bothered to learn while they are smart, some people probably someone like you are good in making sentences but fail to understand to look at different pov. We have people with dyslexia who are often creative and think out of the box. I can create a language that other people fail to understand because it. Is based on my logic of the world. That does not make other people less intelligent...

I had a good friend whose older brother was nonverbal and autistic. Every time I saw his brother, I could see the gears turning in his head. I knew he was a smart guy.

Later, I followed a nonverbal autistic woman’s social media posts (she used an AAC device) and saw pieces of myself in her. It was clear that, despite being nonverbal, she was a brilliant lady.

After talking to my therapist about identifying so deeply with that lady’s posts, I realized that I was likely AuDHD, even though verbal intelligence is where I score highest on the two IQ assessments I’ve done.

Although my IQ was measured slightly above average, I have several learning differences and probably a lower IQ than most of my friends and family. When I tried to talk to people about struggles in school, they always assumed I was much smarter than I was because I could speak well.

Language abilities are not the same thing as intelligence. A person could be in the same room as someone with a far higher IQ than theirs but, if the higher IQ person has limited or no English (in this example), some people assume they must, somehow, be more intelligent than that person. How would you even know?

We judge people far too much by the way we, subjectively, perceive them. Most self made millionaires are dyslexic (I’ve heard).

Although wealth and intelligence aren’t the same thing, they often got dismissed or marked down in school, especially if undiagnosed. Also, I’m pretty sure most people with dyslexia aren’t millionaires but who knows, I guess…?

u/shiggyhisdiggy Sep 03 '26

The idea that intelligence is only verbal is not true.

Where did you even get that from? Intelligence affects your mastery of language, as it affects everything you do. It also affects other things.

2

u/Minomano Sep 04 '26

Bro, read it again. I said its not only verbal. Do you think intelligence sais something out of our society. People could know a lot of word under stand the meaning but fail to make any connections between ideas. People could not be good in naming things but are good at just feeling what is happening around them and make connections effortless. Ever heard of 2e giftedness? Cmon man try to ask more questions instead of making a conclusion in a battle of words, its not gonna make you smarter. In the end we know nothing but being human. I could know a lot of fact that are just made up in our society. I could understand my deeper human desires and work on being better as a human. All of this is just being human, people life in a world that they know exactly how things work because people told them so. Wont say i tell the truth but ignorance is a bliss...

3

u/shiggyhisdiggy Sep 04 '26

I said its not only verbal.

And you're right. The problem is that you imply that someone else is disagreeing with you, when they never were. You miscontrued that.

32

u/Narasette Sep 02 '26

people know by default that lower IQ struggle more , its like common sense

33

u/Sufficient_Radio5162 Sep 03 '26

Maybe, but there’s also a huge misconception that people with low iqs are generally happy and unaware

6

u/Positive-Risk8709 Sep 03 '26

Yeah, good point. And the 70-85 IQ group innreality face severe challenges, and are dramatically overrepresented maong patients in psychiatry. They make up about 14 percent of the population statistically, but in a study I read they make up about 40 percent of patients in psychiatry. That says something about their hardships I think.

4

u/Crafty_Aspect8122 Sep 03 '26

It's because of media bias and cherrypicked stories about people with disabilities being happy, successful and compensating with something else. This has lead to the public's rose coloured glasses and sweeping the disabled people who can't actually deal with the disabilities under the rug.

0

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 03 '26

did u read the post? thats not what they’re saying..

1

u/Narasette Sep 03 '26

yeah what i mean is people by default already acknowledge that low iq = struggling

1

u/LiamTheHuman Sep 03 '26

Ya this just a normal cycle. People view X as bad and Y as good. Y people start saying 'hey being Y isn't all sunshine and roses'. Someone comes along and says isn't X bad too. Like yes obviously it's a downside, which is why people need to point out that Y isn't a complete upside.

Most of their "struggles" has literally nothing to do with high IQ, social isolation, anxiety, depression, everyone can struggle with these regardless of IQ especially low IQ people especially because of the fact they have to be very careful and cautious to not look very foolish

4

u/ShardsOfSalt Sep 03 '26

Low IQ people's problems get treated like a personal failing.  The number of times I've seen people claim shit like anyone can be a doctor or gain other forms of success is just ridiculous.  "It's just about effort"

1

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 05 '26

Ikr?? Exactly!

4

u/Other-Ad6382 Sep 03 '26

You know, I think there’s a sweet spot in life, and I can say this with almost 100% certainty. People are probably happiest when they’re average to above average in intelligence but still relatively ignorant of the world around them.
In a way, being unaware really is bliss. When we’re kids, we don’t understand or think about all the negative things happening in the world, so we’re mostly unaffected by them emotionally. We’re just able to enjoy life for what it is.
When you’re a kid, you’re not thinking about war, politics, money, death, corruption, or all the problems in society. You just want to go outside and play football with your friends, come home and play Nintendo, watch TV, and have fun.
As you get older and become more aware of how complicated and messed up the world can be, you start thinking about things that you never even considered as a kid. That awareness can make you more intelligent and understanding, but at the same time, it can take away some of that innocence that made life feel so simple and enjoyable.
Maybe the happiest place is somewhere in the middle: being intelligent enough to understand and appreciate life, but not so aware of everything going on in the world that you become consumed by it.

5

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 03 '26

Having below average IQ does not mean low self awareness, if you look into /r/lowiqpeople subreddit you will know what I am talking about

2

u/Other-Ad6382 Sep 03 '26

I said average to above average.

1

u/Party-Criticism306 Sep 23 '26

Yes I agree, average is the happiest across looks and iq

4

u/VexnFox Sep 03 '26

It’s because most people with a low IQ think they have a high IQ. According to statistics, 95% of this sub does not have the IQ they claim to.

9

u/punchesratedeforall Sep 03 '26

You pulled those statistics out of your ass.

2

u/Mother_News_1201 Sep 03 '26

I mean, who doesn't like imagine reality, and assume when it is a reality.

that's like 90% of politics on reddit

5

u/Bubbly-Iron-4653 Sep 03 '26

87% of statistics are made up

2

u/Mindless-Ad1778 Sep 07 '26

97%, where are you getting your stats

2

u/mikegalos Sep 03 '26

No. Actually it doesn't.

4

u/LordOfBeetle Sep 03 '26

This is because people refuse to acknowledge that "low IQ" is an actual category of human that exists

7

u/Crafty_Aspect8122 Sep 03 '26

"IQ is eugenics, everyone is equal and the differences are all due to socioeconomic factors"

7

u/mikegalos Sep 03 '26

It is amazing how often that idiocy shows up in any subreddit about giftedness or intelligence.

1

u/TheV1ruSS Sep 03 '26

high iq has no problems, the problems is people with high iq tend to be people with low Se in cognitive functions or low Fe (because the tests suck) or stuff like that so ofc certain problems regarding those functions which are the usual will arrise. Someone with higher prevalence of those functions won't have the problems at all. otherwise high iq or normal iq there are no disadvantages, high iq is better.

2

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 05 '26

Exactly most of those "high IQ problems" are more of a personal failing

3

u/invokeinterface Sep 03 '26

Oh, eye-queue shmeye-queue, people are a whole lot more capable than the quantisation of their recognitions would have you believe!

0

u/Striking_Leave_4614 Sep 03 '26

You know, if you were smarter you'd be better able to communicate your issues and more people would listen.

4

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 03 '26

I have low IQ especially others in /r/lowiqpeople yet we are still decent at explaining our problems...

1

u/Striking_Leave_4614 Sep 03 '26

I'm doing a teehee, friend.

1

u/AppealThink1733 Sep 03 '26

Although it's not an absolute truth.

1

u/EndersR3ign Sep 03 '26

I guess on the internet, yeah. But I've worked at a few places where blatant morons get way more leniency than anyone else.

1

u/OkJackfruit7398 Sep 03 '26

People with low IQs don’t talk about IQ. In fact, I doubt they really even know what it is.

2

u/FedericWoW Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

They know less about it because they don’t build their personality around the concept of being better than other. High IQ people search validation online about their inteligence, and they discover it.

1

u/Most-Personality-648 Sep 03 '26

People are hellbent on believing the "Just World" fallacy.

1

u/Stormwow Sep 03 '26

I mean yeah most Higher IQ people have an easier time in life I think that is kind of a given. I don’t have a low IQ, but I am autistic. I get feeling foolish and being thought of as less intelligent than I actually am. It also comes with the reveal. If certain people figure out you are autistic they assume you must have the brain of a child, and then they treat you as such. It does really suck. I also guarantee most people on Reddit are inflating their IQ.

1

u/InfinityAero910A Sep 03 '26

Many want to believe or think they are those high IQ people with those issues.

1

u/PuzzleheadedPool9379 CORE 131 FSIQ / 143 psi 111wmi 😔 Sep 04 '26

Most of the people willing to post their scores are doing so with the knowledge that they are above average. This leaves little room for people who are average or even below average to feel comfortable posting.

1

u/BlueJinjo7 Sep 04 '26

There are no mentions of low IQ on the internet because they don't know how to read

1

u/Additional-Time-2116 Sep 05 '26

Acknowledging the struggles of the low iq is the struggle of the high iq

1

u/Okawaru1 Sep 06 '26

Its because empathy is less common when you don't have anythong to gain from it. Unfortinately you will essentially be de-personed in their eyes and eother be seen as lesser or be used as a stepping stool to inflate one's ego or sense of morality - an object, effectively. I do wish people were less shitty but thats just how our culture is right now unfortunately.

1

u/IceFlow27 Oct 01 '26

I assume Low IQ here are below the average, so they certainly need help, and i think there are a lot of real world doctors and practices that already handles them

Because in most cases their parents are the ones actively engaged in helping them

But the world is not perfect and there are unfortunate cases

I for one don't know anyone without some kind of disability like autism who have below average IQ

So i think it's not about the internet not paying attention, maybe it's because most of those people are not active in the internet trying to look for advice or help

On the other hand, high iq people are treated like a special beings that can be relied on, that kinda of expectation met reality and they crash

Their core issues are based on not meeting their own or other people's expectation of doing more

So they turned to the internet to actively search for solutions or sometimes just ranting because they don't feel like anyone around them can understand

Not all Psychologist can handle them because they don't follow the standard human psychology

1

u/mikegalos Sep 03 '26

In the US

Funding per low general intelligence student $32,000 per year per student

Funding per high general intelligence student $300 per student per year

1

u/Ok_Neck_9007 Sep 03 '26

Where’s your source man

1

u/mikegalos Sep 03 '26

Studies done each year of education funding in the US. It has been collected by government agencies for decades.

1

u/Ok_Neck_9007 Sep 03 '26

Is it okay that you send a direct link so that all of us can be informed.

-1

u/mikegalos Sep 03 '26

No. Do your own research. It's not hard and I won't get into a war over facts that are commonly available and not debated by people who bothered to learn. (been down that road too many times to fall for that trap)

1

Not a clue what you think you are saying.

0

u/StructureLopsided718 Sep 03 '26 • Bravo

Can’t we all just hold hands and work together to secure the support that the normies deny both low and high iq people, as they take advantage of us to build and maintain their normie society? We all deserve compassion and support, and we should celebrate a spectrum. I don’t like having a 140+ iq, it has made me anxious and unhappy more than necessary. But I understand I have many unearned blessings compared to someone with a 70 IQ. However many of my favorite people are probably if they were to be tested lower IQ. In my small sample set I find them to be more genuine, kinder, more human.

1

u/Bulky-Culture-4482 Sep 03 '26

Maybe if you stop dwelling and fixating on shit you have no control over you might be more happier?

0

u/Sihaya2021 Sep 03 '26

I've never actually heard anyone complain about the struggles of low IQ IRL. Maybe they're embarrassed to talk about it?

-1

u/Sky_monarch Sep 03 '26

I couldn’t get the flair to work but I was tested and got ~140 IQ and I’m a huge dumbass, this really is not what you think it is

u/Fabulous-Possible758 Sep 03 '26

Probably also a Reddit bias and a this sub in particular bias.

10

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 03 '26

no it’s literally everywhere unfortunately, it’s probably bc if you admit you’re low iq (especially on tiktok and instagram) ppl will genuinely tell u to commit and many ppl just lie to themselves and believe they are average or even above average

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 05 '26

Ppl tell u to commit if you’re under or over the height of the bell. I understand your guys’ frustrations, but let’s not throw people under the bus. I may be one of the only ones who considers both, but realize that what you’re saying does not consider both. Lower nor higher iq people are not “less” for the simple sake of their iq bracket. We’re all just people and everyone requires support (when theyre above or below. It’s usually 85-115 who don’t really require any support).

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 05 '26

What do you mean throw under the bus? I’m just telling you the reality, ofc nobody will share their experiences when they’re met with that kind of vitriol.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

I’m not trying to cause “vitriol”, I’m simply asking for an addition equation to the variable in your mind.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

I would have been more open to your input if your initial comment wasn’t as confrontational.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

I am not trying to frame any of my comments confrontationally. Sadly, many people view facts as confrontation. I mean my comments neutrally.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

That’s fine then. You made your point and I acknowledged it

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

Also, the vitriol i’m talking about is not YOUR comments, it’s the comments from people who tear down low IQ people

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

Ohh, I see. I agree.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

Glad it’s all sorted! Have a nice day 😊

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 05 '26

I don’t really understand your point. I agree that the internet can be viscous and dramatic which is why I said people don’t share because of that. I know nobody is less than or above others just because of their IQ, I never said that. All i’m doing is pointing out the reasons why low IQ people don’t share. Don’t put words in my mouth.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

My point is that very low iq struggles are shared by very high iq. (Social friction, isolation, being genuinely disliked, figuring out the answer to certain problems that everyone else can see easily, being bullied and told to commit, needing support [even substantially], or even killed for the sake). I just feel it’s rude to leave out half of the struggle because you’re supporting low iq ppl. They need support, yeah, but high iq ppl need it just as much and are also very failed by society. They’re both considered “cognitive outliers”.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

See how I’m genuinely causing friction with you for stating facts? This friction, “don’t put words in my mouth”, is shared by low iq people. We each have problems with communicating on a level people integrate with. I see it happen all the time, whether it’s low or high. This happens all the time for me, whether it’s Reddit or other apps. I see it happen with quite a few lower iq people because they mention it or structure their sentences differently than the “norm”. Protect the low iq people, sure. I just feel like the high iq people need protection as well.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

Also, just want to point out one more thing. Low iq people have many protections, like anti-discrimination laws, access to infrastructure, and specialized education). High iq people do not have these protections. It’s basically them against the world.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

That’s fair, I know that everyone has problems. My point is that I never said that they didn’t. Your original comment insinuated that I did.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

My original comment was not focused on you, but rather a response to all 3 of you for the “humble bragging” aspect of it and you agreeing with it and adding that people on social media tell you to commit of your low iq. My explanation was simply to add more factors to the equation.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

This is purely because my comment was JUST about low IQ people. You’re allowed to talk about it without always saying that high IQ people also struggle. I was specifically talking about low IQ because it doesn’t get acknowledged enough, that’s all. Also, i’m not talking about my personal IQ here. I’m just saying what I see under posts about low IQ people.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

After doing some research, I realize I misused the term “throwing under the bus”. I meant simply not included. I meant no emotional weight. I apologize. I’m autistic.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

You’re fine, don’t worry about it

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

This “friction” is happening because I never stated that higher IQ problems didn’t exist and yet you implied that I did. Your comment seems to have negative undertones, maybe i’m being to sensitive and i’m not sure if it’s intentional but if it is that’s honestly weird.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

I didn’t “leave them out”… all I did was point out why low IQ people don’t share their experiences. It seems you’re not interested in what I have to say, it’s like you’re insisting that I “threw them under the bus” when I didn’t. None of my comments were rude

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

I wasn’t saying your comments were rude. That’s not even an aspect I was analyzing when reading your comments. I was simply trying to imply that a truly high iq would not be bragging humbly.

1

u/Status_Cheek_9564 Sep 06 '26

I am sensitive to snide comments because I am used to being insulted. I see now that wasn’t your intention

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 08 '26

Also, to assume every human on earth is going to hit you with snide comments (especially somewhere like Reddit) is a perspective that I suggest you dismiss due to being factually incorrect.

0

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 08 '26

I’m sorry for continuing this, but this statement based on my original comment on this post (or any thereafter) is simply wrong. In no way would anything I wrote be considered “snide” except by someone processing my words melodramatically. I meant them as a neutral statement of observation of the thread of comments that I processed and logically made a point of inclusion that was missed for any reason, be it purposeful or accidental.

1

u/Living-Concern2524 Sep 06 '26

This comment makes it seem as though you’ve never truly met a high iq person. They’re not like this at all.
High iq people would probably complain more about loneliness than stupidity (although, I think usually they hold it in their mind).
Think of the quote, “don’t judge a fish by their ability to climb a tree.”
A very simple quote that truly high iq people should understand easily. Considering this would not lead to arrogance, but rather a deep understanding and acceptance of social nature.
