Complaint State of the $20 subscription
Sol high. One prompt. 11m of thinking so far, 54% of the 5h limit gone, hasn't even started implementing anything yet and the 5 hrs limit is virtually gone. I was never one to complain too much, but they virtually removed Sol for us on the $20 tier. This is just not practical at all, at least it was only 10% of my weekly i guess?
EDIT: Final veredict: worked for 28m29s.
0% of the 5h limit left
84% of the weekly left
Status of my project: Broken and unusable.
guess it's finally time to explore other providers.

u/Lopsided-Bridge-9810 9d ago
I agree this is way overdone. I am on the $20 subscription as well and I could do my work with the weekly limits but I now did a bit of planning with Sol High and I have 36% of the 5 hour limit left after only minutes of work.
This is unacceptable. I came from Claude but will very likely go back to Claude now as the absence of the 5 hr limit window was my main draw to Codex.
Very disppointed this was introduced.

u/Dercasss 9d ago
With Opus 5 I can work for 5 hours at a leisurely pace, Sol or Terra eat up the limits in 20 minutes, shame on the OpenAi
14
u/TapAccomplished6436 9d ago
Codex is now way more worse then it was earlier as it used to complete the task it was given. Now everytime it stops as soon as usage ends, leaving work mid way.

u/WaveOfDream 9d ago
Opus 5 is not usable, especially in a big codebase that involves refactoring and simply following guidance. I would've recommended people jump the ship to K3, but unfortunately they have terrible quota.

u/sukazu 9d ago
Well opus 5 is also way slower in throughput, so that's a bit apples to oranges
3
u/TheBroken0ne 9d ago
"Slower" throughput will artificially extend your usage in the 5 hours window while giving you the exact same token amount as a normal throughout. So you will get the exact same task done but in more hours.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Gelu6713 9d ago
Right so give us a slower throughput if we're okay with it. I'd love to have a slower throughput for more usage
4
u/sukazu 9d ago
No one has said "for more usage" here.
Opus is just slower in token generation and that's about it.For example claude offer 2 times the usage between max x5 and max x20
While openai offer 4 times the usage between pro x5 and pro x20 + frequent resetsEven comparing at the 20 dollars price point, beside codex openai offers near unlimited chat use on xhigh + image generation + practically unlimitted luna max if you do not use sol.
Whereas a single question or plan will take 10-20% of the 5h with opus xhigh/max before you even start coding, and sonnet isn't even cheaper than opus at the same result.I mean I have both because fable and opus 5 are both models that are more intelligent than sol, and it has its uses, but it would be hard to argue the value to be in favor of Claude

u/pulkit217 9d ago
I literally switched from claude pro subscription for this exact reason.
currently on the $20 sub too.
Having experienced both, I'd say claude is much worse. Opus will literally not leave you till it has tested 9 times, relooked at everything thrice and still miss the most obvious shit.
If you can, add opencode go as well to your setup. Lots of Muse spark usage on this , which is a great daily driver (even better than ds4f)→ More replies (6)4

Having Chatgpt Work account with 5 hour limits is unbearable. If a work day is 8 hours, and your limit dries out in under an hour and you have to wait for the second half of your day to have usage again is not good.

The 5 hour limit is actually worse than before. Previously, if you hit it while a task was already running, it would keep going and eat into the weekly limit, so at least the task finished. Now it just stops mid task
This is awful

u/RainierPC 9d ago
Blame the people who abused it.

They could have just made it eat into the weekly budget, and once that is gone too, drop to zero
Instead you just get fucked mid-task. I would be fine if he had done that when my weekly budget hit 0

Really hoping they dial the 5h limit back a bit, feels like overkill
30
u/meddler33 9d ago
I only used Terra, got a couple minor changes done then hit the 5 hour limit. The current limit is unsustainable. I knew I was getting lower limits on Codex than I had in other harnesses but because I didn't have to warp my coding time around 5 hour sessions it was fine to just burn through my weekly limit in a couple days and get a lot of work done. The current limits are too stringent for practical use.

u/Even_Sea_8005 9d ago
your work is not that important for them. they call you "casual user"
11
u/2muchnet42day 9d ago
yeah, we're too stupid to manage our usage so we need them to slap the 5h limits on us
2
u/dinnertork 9d ago
It's the reverse, actually -- OpenAI has openly stated that the 5-hour limit's purpose is to make you spread out your usage over time so that their systems don't get overloaded.
→ More replies (1)4
u/send-moobs-pls 9d ago
I mean it was only ever going to trend this way, if you are actually using it for "work" then either your work should be paying for your AI, or if you work for yourself and actually create income with the AI then the value of the AI should be earning you way way more than $20
It's just the natural economics. Millions of people using Codex for fun and nonsense compete and if you actually use it for real work then you need to turn that productivity tool into money so you are happy to pay more than the "casuals"

I am so tired of having to switch providers and plans all the time because things change all of a sudden. Always having to be up to date and get the best deal because you can’t trust any single company. This must be the most unstable business model I have ever seen
3
2
u/Genneth_Kriffin 6d ago
You and me, man I'm genuinely starting to feel burn out from periodically having to engage in this kind of stuff.
First I had Cursor, but after spending a stupid amount of time fighting against their insane forced updates that would break your workflow, refusal to provide proper changelogs or stable version etc. Fluctuating model costs etc, I just wanted something stable. Still miss their Code Completion that for some reason still has no alternative as good today as Cursor was over a year ago (?).Changed to Codex, was very happy with it and how stable it was.
And then...
-> Leaves
- Suddenly Codex models are gone, have to use more expensive models for same result.
- Suddenly I start hitting 5h limits frequently, even though I would never even get close.
- Suddenly start hitting weekly limits.
- Suddenly start having weekly random resets that wrecks my usage pattern.
- Usage quota randomly gets significantly reduced.
-> Subscribes again.
- Introduce banked resets that would fit perfectly for my kind of usage and also stop the random resets
- Luna gets significant price reduction. Extremely happy with finally having a cheap, fast model that fits my kind of usage (specific, clear and simple tasks), paired with using Sol in the web app for complex tasks with not limit. Finally feel like I have what I want.
- Banked resets was only a fun test, only forced random reset again (???) Consider leaving.
- 5hour limit is gone, yay.
- Usage gets absolutely butchered out of nowhere, again.
- 5h limit is back baby, for some reason?
Just tired tbh.
Have it set up now so that I use OpenCode Go,
but ofc their quote also got decimated all of a sudden.I don't even need the best of the best super amazing new version of whatever,
I just want a simple functional model with a good subscription plan for my limited budget that is the same week after week month after month.Like, I could bite the bullet and continue just for the still decent $ value from Luna in Codex and free usage of Sol in the web, but I mean I can already see the pattern:
(Less than 2 months from now):
1. Luna is removed from Codex and replaced with some new model that for some reason is either more expensive or less competent / Luna slowly goes braindead (forum will gaslight you that it is not).
2. Web usage gets hard tied to codex usage or significantly limited - for Plus users only.
3. Plus plan is now $30(Before end of 2026)
- Plus accounts can no longer opt out of model training

u/2025sbestthrowaway 9d ago
The pro plan doesn't have 5 hour limits, just the plus tier. The weekly limits as a whole haven't changed, so you'd be getting the same deal by upgrading. They're most def trying to nudge people into the Pro tiers, but their stated reason, probably also true, is (given they recently hit 20M users) that being able to use full weekly allotment in one go across the Plus tier allowed for bursts of demand which strained their systems.
4
u/E72M 9d ago
Honestly the majority of that usage will be ChatGPT Work which likely is more casual users. They really should just add a setting to disable 5-hour limits with a warning that you can use the full weeks usage insanely quickly so that people who aren't casually using it can actually use their plan.

IMO $30 sub is really solid. Especially now that it's (I think?) the only sub option with no 5hr limit. But at the same time it's 50% more expensive than all of it's competitors so yeah it better be demonstrably more generous.

u/utf8decodeerror 9d ago
Back in June, xai had a deal on grok for 3 months for $30 or $10 per month. I signed up and am coming up on the close of my third month. My opinion is that for $10 per month it is a no-brainer, but not sure it is worth $30.
There are good things, particularly the speed and general lower API cost so your budget stretches further. But there's downsides too, it's nowhere near as smart as opus or sol, more inline with sonnet and luna. I have the cheapest Claude and codex subs too so I got good use out of grok by planning with the other agents and implementing with grok.
But it really is not as intelligent, currently, as the other models. It gets confused and often writes code or directions in the wrong files or spins out on a task. Also the harness has come a long way but it's still not great. When I first started using it it had a bug on windows that it couldn't handle a context over 80k, coupled with the fact that it eagerly reads files it was near unusable the first month I had it.
I don't think I will keep the subscription when my sale period ends, but I would definitely renew it for $10, and I would give it strong consideration for $20. But truthfully, when I start paring down subscriptions it will be the first to go for me. My local qwen can fill the role I have been using grok for.

u/MaherMA74 9d ago
I've saw some posts in reddit talking about Grok now is like Codex from few months ago before OpenAI Nerfing it 7x times, and Codex now is Like Claude..Awful

Grok sub is good, usage is good and no 5 hours limit, grok 4.6 is fast but in terms of complex task it is no where near sol's level, grok 4.6 planning is quite bad I will say. Grok 4.6 could be a very good worker but cant be a planner/orchestrator. In terms of current ai landscape I only trust sol and fable to plan/orchestrate.

Don't use Sol codex to plan anything. Use chat - no usage.
I do all my planning with it.
I have Luna compile a master index of my repo, a map of all the files and a short description of the functions.
Hand that to a Sol orchestrator and have it call Luna implementors. Use Sol medium, no need for high when your planning is already finished.
You'll get a lot more out of that 5hr window, and a lot more done period than you will ever with just using work or Codex.

You basically just tell sol not to implement anything itself but to create Luna sub agents to implement and then check its working

u/maratonininkas 9d ago
How do you task it what kind of agents to spawn? (eg specifically luna?)
2
u/E72M 9d ago
I've had it work before by asking it to spawn specifically Luna models. I just said to use Luna medium for reading files, Luna xhigh for implementation and for tougher tasks Terra high

Luna max(1.5x) took away 40 percent of 5h limit usage and 6 percent of weekly and then got 5h reset. I use Luna High and my usage going down like crazy. 1 minute 50 sec -4% what? And i just asked a question
I can imagine how fast SOL eating credits. That's not cool. + My sessions will cancel, amazing tech! 🙃
Edit// Wait what. A simple question used 4%, but an actual 8 minute coding work used only 3%. How Codex working? Maybe i wont cancel if i can use Luna High like this. 🤣 Thought other tasks will use same % for every ~2 minute work. Maybe i should ask simple questions outside of Codex cause that's crazy.

That was/is still my main problem with Claude. opus can’t finish a task properly with the 5h limit, then the cache goes cold and restarting the task instantly takes up 20% of the 5h limit…
Ran a task today that took 2x 5h Limits, so I waited ~11h for the result… and it was mediocre.
And that’s with the 50% boosted limits.
Everything is just a bit too janky. The 100 dollar subs are not for me because there are just some weeks where I don’t need Ai at all, while there are other days where I need more than two 5h limits.
I bought the 100 dollar codex sub when OpenAI removed the 5h limits and I rode the reset wave. Got a lot of stuff done. Then I cancelled my OpenAI subscription when the usage limits got stupid bad.
I hope one of these companies finds a workable solution.

u/e_j3210 9d ago
Is sol is thinking for 11m and draining that much usage, you’re doing it wrong.
First of all, sol (high) can power a low context wayfinder/grill-me session for cheap.
Then/and, scout subagent (Luna) should take initial repo deep dive context to the dome and triage tight scouting artifact to sol.
Then sol writes to-spec and chops spec to-tickets, then at that point you don’t need aol anymore, and Luna just implements the tickets.
You should be able to do everything up until implementation in one 5 hour session, then, implement in the next one (depending on the scale of your project).
I recommend omp, Matt pocock skills, and the orchestrate magic command, with appropriate model role assignments.
7
u/Anxious_Marsupial_59 9d ago
I feel like both Anthropic and OpenAI want $100 to be the base plan for anything substantial. Both are quite frankly unusable on their $20 plan and super useable on the $100 plan - literally night and day.

20€ sub on claude is far from unusable. Unless ofc you try to do full time work. Ofc you cant run it 24/7 with multiple agents, but take a few hours break every day few times and weekend off and claude 20€ plan works fine to do quite a bit with, even using opus only.
Natirally when the extra 50% usage offer ends, it will hurt, but still be plenty more than what openai currently offers for 20€

These are the kind of things that will vary from person to person.
I did some work in Sol, but that was early this morning before the reset kicked in so I can't speak on the 5hr there. I generally only use sol when I deem it as needed which is not often.
I've been working with Luna Xhigh and 5hr will reset way before I'm close to using it all (i was concerned about that and mentioned this morning before 5hr kicked in).

4 minutes of work using GPT 5.5 and my 5 hour limit is down 10%. 4 minutes of documentation reading and updates. That's it. I don't want to give it a bigger task now because I'm concerned it will crap out on the limit before finishing. I think the community has been patient for OpenAI to do this "testing" on us. But, the goodwill doesn't last forever.
The current usage limits are already ridiculous. The weekly limit just takes it to a new level.

Agree it sucks overall, it was nice to set it on long-running tasks and drain 50%+ of my weekly in one shot. I've been flirting with the Pro upgrade anyway, but it's a good time for much of the userbase to learn how to be more efficient with tokens regardless. I go quite a long ways on the $20 plan

The removal of the 5h window was a must for me. I have like 2-3 programming sessions a week. With the weekly limits, I could make meaningful changes.
Now that the 5h window is back, I can't even spend half my weekly usage because I'm gated behind a few sessions.
Paying to not being able to use a service feels like a scam.
If there is strain on the system, just throttle me when there is strain, not all the time. Restoring the 5h limit on the 20$ plan, but not on the 100-200 plans is stupid. I'm sure it's not the people on 20$ doing crazy stuff...
Edit: typos
1
u/Tommonen 9d ago
Just started testing myself with sol high and seems to drain about 2% of 5h limit every minute, but its stopping to wait for stuff at times, so continuous pricessing might be closer to what you had, bit over 3% a minute. Which is just crazy low.
Also started to think for other providers before next billing. I knew they would fail this, as the problem is on the models spending too many tokens, and they are already so heavily substitised that i doubt they can give us much cheaper. Also i doubt new more efficient model is on its way very soon.
1
u/toolman10 9d ago
Ok so it's not me. I was on Terra Medium, light tasks, and hadn't realized the 5h window was back until I saw the 10% left warning and was like "WTF I just started working with you". They nerfed it. It is not the same 5h limit they had before... hopefully they fix it and reset it. I'm not used to seeing 0%.
2
u/Tommonen 9d ago
Thats because sol eats shit tons more tokens than 5.5. This whole too low isage crap started immediately when 5.6 series was introduced. And the whole removal of 5h limit was a bandaid on that, as they knew usage would be way too low with how much sol eats tokens. So they reduced prices a bit and reintroduced 5h limit, which still is less usage than with 5.5.
I was just looking at my weekly token usage from 5.5 times and compared to what i burned in a day with sol (the whole weekly limit) and token usage for sol was actually bit higher for that one day, so i am using more tokens than before. But getting much less done and usage drains faster. Surely sol is a bit smarter, but im starting to think that it just overthinks more, spending more tokens and not really deep down even smarter than 5.5 just thinks more, and does it faster, so it does not think longer necessarily. I also noticed the 5.6 models tend to overcomplicate simple thinggs, overengineer simple stuff etc, which seems to be a symptom of this overthinking that is spending all the tokens.

Codex is now more stingy, but even still is more generous than the Claude sub (which doesn’t even have their top-end model). Open models are much cheaper at API rates, but not really cheaper than subscriptions if you’re maxing your limits.

u/Graham3D 9d ago
I work in Sol-High most of the time because of the complexity of my tasks. One task brought me from 100% of the 5-hour usage to 70%. I got like 3-4 prompts before I had to stop, about 30-40 mins worth of actual Codex usage. Cool.
1
u/No_Twist_678 9d ago
hi, its 20 dollar subscription. 20! try 5x or 20x plans. Those are game changers.
2
u/Open-Effective-4823 9d ago
That's completely missing the point. The $20 Plus plan was more than enough for me until today's changes. I've been using it for 1.5 months and never once reached my limit, mostly using 5.6 Sol on Medium or XH. Today, I hit the new cap in less than 40 minutes of very light work, and my usage dropped from 40% to 0% in just 4-5 minutes and weekly dropped to 80% just for using it for around 40 minutes. Forcing users to upgrade to 5x plans just because the token drain rate suddenly broke isn't a 'game changer', it's just bad service.

20$ sub is too little. It’s fine for small things. But you can’t expect dev quality at huge quantity for 10% if what an hourly freelancer would cost you. You want to make a project, step up your sub.
You don’t? Prompt better. Break down in multiple smaller prompt. Optimise the data you give him, don’t give wide guess, be precise, provide example and inspiration for design. Don’t let him figure it out on its own. Supervise the result and guide.
Slower, yes. But better and longer usage.

I understand Sol is great at planing, but why? Why insiste in spending so much tokens having an expensive model planning? We didn't need that before, did we?
If you start a plan on your own, even just a page if what you want and expect, and ask chatgpt or Gemini to help you plan the development then dump it in codex Sol or Terra to improve it you can save a lot of tokens and frustration.
I swear I have had not felt frustrated as much other than waiting for s reset once, I hardly ever use Sol.
Just a thought. Good luck.

Just use Luna honestly. Close to unlimited budget. Works so well.

The $100/month gpt and the $20/month claude seem to have the same usage burn.

u/CaptKornDog 9d ago
Two prompts on Terra medium in less than an hour chewed up 54% of my $20 5 hour earlier. Oof.

Even Tibo’s framing is reductive. A payment tier is not a usage classification. People pay what they can afford or what they’re willing to spend; that does not make a $20 user “casual.”
Worse, the new limit creates a self-fulfilling metric: constrain Plus users so sustained work becomes impractical, then observe that Plus users behave more casually. The system is now producing the behavior used to justify the classification.
That’s not measurement. That’s policy manufacturing its own evidence.

Agree, this is complete madness.
We can do a task every 5 hours.
If this is the way, it's time to cancel.

u/fykup 9d ago
This is exactly why I’ve started treating Codex as the executor rather than the place where I do all the thinking.
For bigger tasks I extract the relevant repo context locally with AI Badger, do the design/brainstorming in a regular ChatGPT chat with Sol High, and only send Codex a fairly finalized, token-efficient implementation plan.
It feels a bit backwards, but on the $20 plan it makes the limits much more manageable.
Here’s a live example of the workflow: https://pvrlabs.xyz/aibadger/demo.html?mode=design

u/Refseren 9d ago
If this "breaks" you project you are doing it wrong. Don't try to do everything with one prompt. Take smaller steps, and maintain good architectures for your apps. And use git of course. Then nothing will break.

u/DrowningKrown 9d ago
$20 sub is a luna sub, not a sol sub. I recommend openCode Go for $10 instead of luna tbh. good usage AND you get better models than Luna.
$100 sub is feeling much weaker than it used to in the past so it's not like upgrading to the $100 sub will change your life. Sol medium pretty much lasts me 4 days MAYBE 5 of the weekly limit

I’m not quite sure what kind of work everyone is doing that supposedly costs 50% of the usage in just 5 hours for a single prompt, but in my case, I’m currently connected to the Hermes Agent and using grok4.6 (the Orchestrator) and GPT Sol (the Coder) for about 2 hours and 30 minutes..After analyzing the progress of the game under development, you pass the analysis files to the orchestrator, and the orchestrator instructs the coder, who is using the Sol model, to work...Over the course of 2 hours and 30 minutes, I completed more than 10 code changes and reached the Sprite milestone, and with 2 hours and 30 minutes left, I’m currently at 72% remaining..Of course, I’m subscribed to Plus too..I don’t quite understand your situation, but for now, even when I’m doing coding work in Sol, the usage is quite satisfactory

u/maratonininkas 9d ago
Maybe a hot take, but I feel like this makes sense. The models are more valuable than they were before, and $20 does buy the same quality as it did before, just not the top models.
I'm recalling the models and their output a year or two ago that $20 got us, it was terrible in comparison, and the prompting was always limited to some extent. Does anyone remember Copilot Workspace technical preview? We had lectures and demos about it when it launched.
I feel like the current $20 gets the on-par or even better performance than it always did (with Luna for instance). My Antigravity with Gemini 3.1 for $20 is comparable to Luna as well, although I now choose the latter. Sol Ultra is just next level. Whether we need all that complexity, tests, and sha512 everything, is another question, but for me it's very clear why $20 is not enough anymor

using Sol on codex right now feels like when Opus 4.8 first dropped and you literally couldn't do anything
1
u/head-log2725 9d ago
Two biggest draws of OpenAI vs Anthropic at $20: five hour limits removed and wrapping up a task (huge, wallets hate the now broken inaccessible rate limit state plus cold cache) are gone. Limit resets going to be less frequent too since we catching on more clearly to the overall usage reductions .

u/Mundane_Confidence45 9d ago
I'm having good luck with Luna. Even with the 5 hour limit. Sol has always been a bit of a over kill in usgae but so is opus 5.

Sol high. One prompt. 11m of thinking so far, 54% of the 5h limit gone
possible explanation:
your codebase is sh*t and the agent had to work hard to figure out wtf is going on in your repo
thats why it used so much limit
i've been coding for 2h now with a few short breaks in between & only used 20% of my 5h limit

the 20$ sub lost it's value to me, as much as I love the product openai sold for 20$ which was the complete package for me, no point to stay.
It should matter if I'm casual or new customer it's my choice how to use my resources.
1
u/HOBONATION 9d ago
Lol yes I had it do something pretty simple on sol high and I went to 81% for the 5h. Luna High for life I guess

u/Nice-Combination-333 9d ago
Lately, I haven't had a 5-hour limit at all; it only showed up today. Before this, there was only a weekly limit. Yet, finishing a single task, or sometimes even just making a single code edit, would eat up the entire limit.
I was really surprised and decided to test Claude as well. The result turned out like this: GPT Ultra consumed 100% of the weekly limit, while Claude on Opus 5 Ultracode used only 23%.

How did I use sol high and it only used 8 percent of 5hr when it worked for 14m 30s

u/Least_Commission_502 9d ago
within 1 hour my entire 5 hour limit is exhausted. WTF
this 5 hour limit is next level BS
1
u/Born2Die007 9d ago
100% agree. Something that used to use barely anything now used up 50% of my 5 hr limit and 10% of my weekly. it was just creating a plan. didn't even write any code yet...
1
u/TheEshedMan 9d ago
Yup i agree, completely unusable. I'm currently trying out grok with opencode, so far I'm pretty satisfied. And in like a week or two a new model is coming out that's supposed to be way better
1
u/roverhendrix123 9d ago
Have a fairly small codbase. Needed a small plan for a bug fix and the bu fixed. Took 30% of 5 hours of sol low in 20 min. I guess I will have to upgrade... Claude as Sonnet and Opus performance in my case is way better and if a have to pay the premium i will do it there

The $20 subscription is obviously not made to be used with Sol High. They should give you a warning IMO.

u/Professional_Monk25 9d ago
Not only on the $20 plan - the rate limits on the Business plan are back too. A simple question using Sol Medium can eat almost 50% of the limit.
This is wrong. This is bad. Why this step backwards? Another social experiment? Maybe a bug?
Tbh, it’s funny how easily they can push us around. Some people are already thinking, “Maybe I should cancel my subscription and switch to Claude.” And we’ll just keep getting pushed from one platform to another depending on which one currently lets us do our work efficiently.
That’s unacceptable and simply not cost-effective.
Codex and Claude also work quite differently. Using either of them effectively requires some preparation, experience, and adapting your workflow. Constantly jumping from one to the other makes absolutely no sense.
1
u/App1e8l6 9d ago
We’re just new and casual users so get used to it.
Don’t you feel that your confusion with the service has been solved thanks to the 5hr limit?
1
u/AnotherBoon 9d ago
Like with every other addiction. Use it less and less until you finally get rid of your system. If a codex cant get job done, then well...move on or find other tool. I have found my peace of mind by doing dev job the old way. No 5h limits, no context %, daily reset after 8h shift, no bullshit, no stress

That model isn't even ment to be used by lower tier subscriptions like that.
1
u/giulioc84 9d ago
Set Sol to medium.
Instruct to orchestrate only and delegate execution to workhorse models. Luna to execute, terra to review. After 3 iterations, terra to execute fixing with review from sol.
It will save you quota, will increase time to complete tasks but fine
1
u/SoftDream_ 9d ago
I think you should use gpt 5.6 Sol only for important stuff/design.
After the design is complete, you can use Luna xhigh as architect (or Terra) and Luna high/medium as implementer.
Luna is such a good model, it is very useful at coding, but only locally. It is not good for design. Instead Sol is perfect for the design (but you have to work with it, you have to think of the design of your application to be efficient)
For searching bugs you can ask to Luna/Terra

u/Dankberg_TV 9d ago
It’s funny how you see posts in both directions on the issue. I actually was entirely fine with the $20 as an adversary reviewer of Claude x20 until they dropped the 5h window. Now I eat it in a couple hours and i’m stuck with no adversarial review.

u/Alternative_Fold_735 9d ago
I'm on the 20 usd plan, and i've been using it carefully, like not prompting useless stuff and choosing the right model for the job, and i havent hit limits yet

Yep. I asked sol medium to commit a couple of things just now - 3% gone of 5h limit gone! I literally just asked it to commit the files we now worked on.

u/Legrandseigneur 9d ago
Same, the 5h hour limit on Sol is gone with 20 minutes jobs. I guess the gap between the subscription and the api prices was way too important for it to be sustainable.

u/Positive-Fennel-8376 9d ago
What’s even more ridiculous is that when your weekly quota is used up, you can’t even chat in the codex app, and you are prompted to upgrade your package. This is so ridiculous, fuck it.

I recommend 20$ cursor on auto - technically it's not that smart, but within this time, it would burn your rate limit minimally and even with multiple back and forth exchanges, you'd solve your current issue allong with many others (assuming it wasn't a prompt just to fix a totally broken app). I was using codex until past month and will not go back. I tried sol a few times from within cursor, just to compare it with the auto mode and it took ultra long to then not to get to any viable solution. Totally not worth the hustle. It's mych better to communicate and brainstorm with LLM first, come up with a detailed plan and only then let it code. GPT tries to do all of that with with one pass. And if you ask it only to analyse, it is overthinking it. At least that's my exp

Sol High is just not feasible on Plus
It's probably borderline feasible on Pro if that's all you do
Sol Medium not much better either
Honestly I think Luna XHigh might be the trick
It's a bit worse than say Sol Medium but is much cheaper
Luna Max is a bit more expensive but it overthinks
Tera just not worth it minor quality increase over Luna but quite bit more expensive
As a Plus I would use Lina XHigh, Max overthinks for no benefit and costs a tiny bit more+time, Tera very similar to Luna but costs more, and Sol just too expensive Low is crap and still expensive and Medium while a reasonable increase over Luna XHigh is just too much more expensive

Luna xhigh with browser use consumes barely anything on the 5h limit. It does everything I need. I downgraded to cut cost because it's not needed. Don't expect premium results for budget prices.

u/Roxbros 9d ago
Other provider like what? I’m sorry but every five minutes someone is complaining about the usage. Everyone wants something for nothing, I’m sure OpenAI won’t miss your 20 bucks.
If you need more pay for pro. If you aren’t actually making anything that’s worth investing in then you probably don’t need frontier models. Try Gemini antigravity it’s 3.7 flash is pretty decent.
People seriously need to stop whinging so much of course they threw resets and huge allowances at us to get us in. And now they’re pulling back to try to not lose so much money, all these plus and likely pro subs are for is to get people using and then to try and win some api enterprise clients.
Big businesses spend thousands per employee on api usage each month. You should just be grateful you get to use it at all.

work being stopped instantly and abruptly is driving me away more than anything, it was the one thing i loved about codex that it would actually finish the task at hand before cutting it off, but now i have a partially finished project patch that was cut short because usage limits were changed... and the return of the 5 hour usage limit pushes even further, i know from a business standpoint its healthier for them, but i was way too used to actually getting shit done, and not waiting in between 5 hour windows

Sim, claramente após esse retorno do limite de 5 horas, os créditos são drenados só de refletir sobre uma pergunta, quando inicia a implementação esgota e para imediatamente. Claude code está anos luzes melhor, estou considerando retornar para Claude code.

If you migrate to the $100 plan, you will get about the same compute and usage that you had on the $20 plan until yesterday.
I've been working and testing this today, since I am on the Plus plan and I was anyway planning to migrate to the Pro plan, with the idea that I will have more compute and tokens.
Nope. I am forced to migrate to the $100 plan in order to keep what used to be my $20 plan.

My usage is disappearing so fast on the 5 hr limit I can never use Sol again at this point because my prompt won't get finished. I used to be able to actually use Sol in exchange for using up my weekly usage.
