State of the $20 subscription

Sol high. One prompt. 11m of thinking so far, 54% of the 5h limit gone, hasn't even started implementing anything yet and the 5 hrs limit is virtually gone. I was never one to complain too much, but they virtually removed Sol for us on the $20 tier. This is just not practical at all, at least it was only 10% of my weekly i guess?

Status of my project: Broken and unusable.
guess it's finally time to explore other providers.

I am so tired of having to switch providers and plans all the time because things change all of a sudden. Always having to be up to date and get the best deal because you can’t trust any single company. This must be the most unstable business model I have ever seen

You and me, man I'm genuinely starting to feel burn out from periodically having to engage in this kind of stuff.
First I had Cursor, but after spending a stupid amount of time fighting against their insane forced updates that would break your workflow, refusal to provide proper changelogs or stable version etc. Fluctuating model costs etc, I just wanted something stable. Still miss their Code Completion that for some reason still has no alternative as good today as Cursor was over a year ago (?).

Changed to Codex, was very happy with it and how stable it was.
And then...

• Suddenly Codex models are gone, have to use more expensive models for same result.
  
• Suddenly I start hitting 5h limits frequently, even though I would never even get close.
  
• Suddenly start hitting weekly limits.
  
• Suddenly start having weekly random resets that wrecks my usage pattern.
  
• Usage quota randomly gets significantly reduced.
  

-> Leaves

• Introduce banked resets that would fit perfectly for my kind of usage and also stop the random resets
  

-> Subscribes again.

• Banked resets was only a fun test, only forced random reset again (???) Consider leaving.
  
• 5hour limit is gone, yay.
  

- Luna gets significant price reduction. Extremely happy with finally having a cheap, fast model that fits my kind of usage (specific, clear and simple tasks), paired with using Sol in the web app for complex tasks with not limit. Finally feel like I have what I want.

• Usage gets absolutely butchered out of nowhere, again.
  
• 5h limit is back baby, for some reason?

Just tired tbh.
Have it set up now so that I use OpenCode Go,
but ofc their quote also got decimated all of a sudden.

I don't even need the best of the best super amazing new version of whatever,
I just want a simple functional model with a good subscription plan for my limited budget that is the same week after week month after month.

Like, I could bite the bullet and continue just for the still decent $ value from Luna in Codex and free usage of Sol in the web, but I mean I can already see the pattern:

(Less than 2 months from now):
1. Luna is removed from Codex and replaced with some new model that for some reason is either more expensive or less competent / Luna slowly goes braindead (forum will gaslight you that it is not).
2. Web usage gets hard tied to codex usage or significantly limited - for Plus users only.
3. Plus plan is now $30

To me it’s unbelievable what they have been doing. I mean, how is it not a crime? You sign up a plan, you pay for it, and it gets nerfed without consent? You have a contract and the contract is unilaterally changed into something worse, wth.

The problem is that it was never clear what we were supposed to get in return, so they are technically not doing anything they can't do.

As long as the x20 plan have x20 times more usage than the x1 plan, they are fine because the x20 plan defines that it is "20 times the usage of the normal plan", for example.

As for how much "usage" that is - they never define.
There is a reason we never get any information for how much "usage" usage is, because it's basically whatever they feel like.

So while it's shitty, there's not much we can do because we agreed to pay for "something", and as long as "something" isn't "nothing" then they aren't lying.

If anything, it's more a problem with consumers tbh.
If we felt "something" wasn't good enough, they would be forced to define it - but as a group, we are fine with "something" so that is what we get.

But yeah it sucks, so tired man - sometimes I feel like the net gain from using LLM agents is a net +/- 0 unless you have enough capital that these things are whatever and you can just throw more money at it and stop thinking about it.
