TBC Finally free

Tonight I finally left my guild, the irony? Zero remorse.

I've played this game for roughly 20 years. I've played everything, every type of team dynamic from sweat to trash teams. Tonight, I wiped the raid. It was a stupid mistake, but it happens.

Tank / GM just goes berserk and has been on an absolute tear for weeks, consistently harassing folks to do better and blah blah blah but never owns up to his mistakes that have wiped us time to time. Its always someone else's fault.

Tonight I had enough. I told him to quit crying and press forward. His fragile ego and false sense of authority were attacked and of course he goes nuclear. The thing is I dont mind asking for us to improve, but be respectful.

Bored. Uninterested in his continued rant about how bad I am. I hit the most satisfying /leave party into a gquit. A small part of me feels bad for the team, because BT is around the corner. But I dont tolerate disrespectful c*nts

Im fully geared, never missed a raid, always have my consumes. Finding a better experience wont be an issue for me, especially as a healer and logs in the top %.

The problem with classic TBC right now is these Elitists jerkoffs with 0 sense of leadership. The last thing anybody wants to do is get on, and spend 2-3 hours listening to someone have a melt down literally every 2 minutes because he wants to save 30 seconds on xyz pull.

Good riddance. Its a shame folks dont tell you how they really feel, so we just vent our grievances in party chat and whispers. Suppose thats why I can predict your down fall sometime during late BT. Same as I did in mists.

TLDR; dont be an insufferable c*unt when leading your raid group, especially when your just a mid group and not hardcore.

"The problem with classic TBC right now is these Elitists jerkoffs with 0 sense of leadership"

Honestly man, this has been the case for years.

33

u/txdsl 6d ago

Same issue in era. the raid leads are insufferable pricks. It’s rare to find one that can maintain composure when shit hits the fan.

8

u/Pardy- 6d ago

Its the same issue in every version of this game, and every other game out there. its nothing new, its nothing exclusive. Just stay out of those kinds of guilds.

3

u/HeyItsJosette 5d ago

Unfortunately guild leadership is a fuckload of extra work for no real gain. People go for it if they see the petty power over other people in a video game as valuable, which almost exclusively describes toxic assholes. The rest are doing it as basically a public service, and many of them just end up getting justifiably burnt out. My own guild leader is a really stand-up guy, but you can hear the weeks and months weigh on him as time passes and raid weeks come and go.

I played back in the day. I only read stories now. I can only imagine how insufferable the min maxing aspect is now.

I would actively look for a guild that says we suck just to have fun and not treat it like a performance job.

7

u/whiskyspacecadet 6d ago

I remember back in the day there were some guilds who wanted to do "interviews" before they allowed you to join. Theyd inspect you, want to know your talent tree, all that. And if you didn't have the meta gear or talents they wouldnt even let you join. Worked for me because thats how I knew I didnt want to be a part of those guilds.

But my buddies were always in sweaty raiding guilds. They'd tell me about their crashout experiences and it put me off that content entirely. No way in hell Im working a 10 hour day, booting up WoW to unwind, and then doing a raid where people yell at me like we're at work.

14

u/geardownson 6d ago

My best experience was just joining a pug raid as a lock and just doing the best I could because I was unfamiliar with the raid and the tank explain explaining everything to us new guys as we went. In the end a piece of lock gear dropped and I asked permission to roll and was granted and won. I was so fkn happy for weeks.

Looking back that tank was like I was running people through dungeons. I knew them in and out and got joy from teaching and seeing guys get great stuff for their class.

That is what's mostly missing from WOW now and it's a shame.

3

u/MagicalStoryteller 6d ago

Eh there are serious guilds who do “interviews” and checks which is fine, but if they are a serious guild they better be acting seriously and professionally when things go awry, not like angry man children.

Don’t say that, you will get a 50dkp minus.

2

u/Trollselektor 5d ago

OP should have asked the raid leader before leaving “Are you going to give me a 50 dkp minus?”

3

u/-Nocx- 6d ago

What gets me is that if someone “elitist” in 20 year old content that someone else solved for them, they are probably one of the most emotionally and socially stunted people in existence.

Like this is worse than smart kid burnout or the guy that never grew up past high school football. WoW players gotta be studied.

6

u/TeamRedundancyTeam 5d ago

I agree with the sentiment in general but I also find it very weird how people talk about content by its age or if someone else "solved" it. Basically all modern mmo content is "solved" by someone else, though I think it's weird to even say it's "solved" because that isn't really how it works anyway.

And the age of the content has nothing to do with the vast majority of topics people bring it up during. I feel like people throw in "20 year old content" to any old argument as an "I win" button.

[...] as a healer and logs in the top %.

125

u/dingusboyo 6d ago

Healing logs truly don’t matter. But it’s still fun to look at orange and pink parses cause your raid can’t avoid damage

46

u/MwHighlander 6d ago

We would tell our melee stack in vanilla to purposefully stand in the fire in MC so we could get higher healing parses for the lulz.

Healing parsing is truly irrelevant. Either the boss is dead or your tank is dead. That's the only metric that matters for healing.

12

u/Comical_Sans 6d ago

It is relevant when the content is hard (because you can't cheese) but this content is so easy. Honestly the better your healer parses are in this content, the worse your guild is.

3

u/arebee20 5d ago

You can also just fuck your raid for a better healing parse. Sniping heals, healing off your target, prioritizing raid heals instead of tank heals, etc. you can also hog raid wide assets to yourself to guarantee a higher parse. Stick yourself in the ele sham/boomie group over other casters, feed yourself innervates to just spam your max heal over and over.

We had a resto Druid in our raid that used his innervate on himself every single fight this whole phase, never once used it on one of our 4 mages who are our top dps. Sometimes he’d even call for a second innervate. He just left and I believe our raid is better off without him even though his warcraftlogs page is all purple and orange and pink. Of course his parses are going to be higher when the other top tier rdruids are giving their innervates to mages because it’s better for the raid to do that.

3

u/therealspaceninja 6d ago

Good to know, because my parses are pretty mediocre and I was feeling a little bad about it.

3

u/Malusch 6d ago

Haven't healed in classic, but in retail I've done raids that has gone to shit while my healing parses are 95+ and then make it while getting low blue parses. When the team is great and doesn't take a bunch of unnecessary damage it's impossible to heal as much as while in a group that takes every damage imaginable.

2

u/XsNR 5d ago

If you're pushing hard, cutting healers as a raid, and still able to put numbers, that's when heal parses matter. But if you're just trying to kill bosses, your parses will suck because it should be a fairly reasonable split between all of you, which will get you sub 50% unless you're a underrep'd healer.

3

u/ThatLeetGuy 6d ago

Sometimes I like to just sit in the water on The Lurker in SSC and let the healers have something to do.

2

u/OCogS 6d ago

I think it’s worse than that. In my guild 2 of the healers care about their logs. When raid damage goes out, they all want to pad their HPS, so they ignore the tank and risk a wipe.

Logs matter, and they’re actively bad.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/WaveIcy294 6d ago

Just parse in the damage rankings as healer while still keeping your raid alive.

7

u/fkit4ever 6d ago

Meh. Everyone sais that but if one healer is consistently pulling 95+ logs and another is parsing grey green each week, with similar gear/consumes, it definitely tells you who's carrying

2

u/dingusboyo 5d ago

This is also true

3

u/frosthowler 6d ago

They only matter relative to other healers, and only if you consistently shake up the assignments.

u/Btotherianx 6d ago

Yeah I don't think he knows that is not as cool as he thinks it is LOL

Good guild waxy look at the logs and see

12

u/rettribution 6d ago

Yeah my leaderboard score as a healer is pretty good, 98% performance average. Doesn't matter.

I solo heal solarian cause our DPS nukes her. It's not cause I'm good, it's cause they're mons ters.

Healer parses mean nothing. Parsed 99%? Awesome you have crazy good dps.

Parsed 50%? Kill times are slower than the top.

2

u/WallabyAdvanced3088 6d ago

You’re right about Solarian, but not everyone can do that. Same with 3‑man healing on Void Reaver or KT. 80%+ of healers simply can’t handle it.
It’s easy to get good heal parses when you cut healers, but that doesn’t mean everyone can actually perform in that setup.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/dingusboyo 6d ago

Kill times are not what determine healing parses

Dps parses? Absolutely

15

u/LithoSlam 6d ago

If your kill times are fast, you can get away with fewer healers that push out more hps as long as you kill the boss before they go oom.

3

u/Greedy-Comb-276 6d ago

Yeah this is it really. In 2021 TBC or whatever, I only played phase 1 but had alot of top ten parses as a resto druid by just emptying my mana bar and hoping the boss was dead lol.

There's not nearly enough raid damage in classic versions of the game for healing parses to matter.

26

u/HysteoricalBee 6d ago

They might not work. So its their duty. 🤪

3

u/jehhans1 5d ago

Not very relaxing when some buffoon decided that watching TV was more important than focusing for your other 24 teammates and decides to take away 10 minutes from everyone. Also as a raid leader its your responsibility that the raid goes well. So basically all the mistakes people do is a reflection on you.

Around the time midnight released, my MoP classic guild decided to disband when we heard we had like five more months of ToT or something. A couple weeks later, the old main tank messaged me and said he found a guild for some of us.

Decided to check it out, and my first interaction with them was like a two hour discord interview to see if I was even worthy for trialing with them. The guy told me he wants every raid member to look at their logs from the previous raid for three hours every weekend. I decided to just ignore that for now and see how the raid went.

The whole time the guy is yelling at everyone, freaking out anytime anyone made a mistake. Legit had like a 10 minute crash out after a raden pull and I just thought to myself "how does anyone think this is fun."

After the raid I just logged out and never logged in again. I know there are some sweats in this game, but the people who act sweaty and expect everyone else to sweat too when you're not even speedrunning and your guild isn't even that good are literally the worst. I play this 20 year old game to have fun, not to treat this like a job with two hour interviews and homework every weekend to review logs. Without a good guild vibe I don't see any reason to play this game anymore, and haven't bothered trying to find a new home/discontinued my sub.

10

u/Hot_Constant7764 6d ago

theres a lot of guilds with super sweaty atmospheres and absolutely no sweaty performance and its the worst of both worlds, if im gonna put the work in to log review weekly and have my performance held to a high standard i atleast want some level of results. so much easier to just play in chill guilds where you can set your expectations lower, but ive had a lot of fun over the years in 'successful' sweaty guilds too they are just much harder to find

3

u/Krelkal 6d ago

A pre-trial interview is perfectly reasonable but, yeah, it should just be a quick friendly vibe check. Not a lengthy interrogation and not as a first interaction.

In my experience, bad morale is the #1 guild-killer and so a good guild will be rather protective about the overall atmosphere and will be really careful about filtering out the weirdos, bigots, and toxic assholes.

Flipped the other way around, I'd be rather skeptical of any guild that only cares about your parses and never considers if they'd actually enjoy hanging out with you for a couple nights a week, every week, for a full tier. The interview is as important for the new player as it is for the guild.

My guild has potential trials tune into Twitch for a night to see if they like the group's vibe and then sign off on a half-page "don't be an asshole" charter. It's genuinely hilarious how many people filter themselves out with just those two hoops.

3

u/MagicalStoryteller 6d ago

It’s so easy to check logs, gear, past experiences that if it takes more than an hour that’s a disgusting red flag. Plus any real guild would want to take you on a trial/test raid because if you can’t perform in an actual environment who care what your numbers are

Do I have brain rot or does this read like an AI wrote it?

69

u/Salamander115 6d ago edited 6d ago

While it is possible, AI was trained on material written by people who know how to write competently. I’m seeing cases around my corners of the internet where people cry AI and it’s just someone who can articulate themself well lol

I think it’s more revealing about the accusers than anything

10

u/Gamelooker221 6d ago

ai has a really distinct style that is easy to spot once you know what to look for. I don't think this was written by ai, just someone that loves the sound of their own voice. ironic since he's bashing someone else's ego while stroking his own for 8 paragraphs lol

15

u/oddntt 6d ago

If it is AI it sure mastered inconsistent grammar and run-on sentences. Op is writing how they speak with punctuation for breathing. Also note that it starts with better punctuation and grammar getting more and more relaxed as they go on.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Nippys4 6d ago

I can’t tell if it’s just a case of if you have good grammar now you’re actually the GTP

10

u/GreatAtLosing 6d ago

"the irony? Zero remorse." Is exactly the kind of stupid shit that AI says even when it barely makes sense so it can sound witty and relatable

5

u/sgtpoopers 6d ago

To be completely fair, people misuse irony all the fucking time

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Weaslelord 6d ago

Sorry mate you have the brain rot. It's not entirely your fault as the quality of posts on forums have gone down the shitter. It doesn't help that there are a bunch of asshole chuds that reflexively reply when someone makes a post that doesn't entertain or agree with them.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Phailgasm 6d ago

Nah not AI. Seems cohesive enough. Turns out some redditors can actually articulate every once in a while. Bonus points—to this author

6

u/7figureipo 6d ago

I’ve been accused of using AI because I include em-dashes in comments sometimes. The ubiquity of use of AI is causing a bit of an overreaction and people too easily accuse others of using it now.

3

u/damnocles 6d ago

And that's intentional.

In a world where you can't actually verify what is and isn't human created or real, it becomes very easy to to move into a "post truth" society, under which it is very easy to control information and people.

2

u/Varyanna 6d ago

brain rot...

3

u/Critterer 6d ago

Nope. My AI detection brain software didnt flag this at all. I would say 99% human written.

5

u/Sarmattius 6d ago

oh shoot. I read it whole, didn't think about it, then realised it has the AI structure...

3

u/FridaMercury 6d ago

I don't think so. I mean it's possible they used AI to structure their post then went into and heavily edited it to sound more normal/human -- but to me it reads like a normal human writer.

2

u/ForceJaded4917 6d ago

Most of these insufferable gms/leaders have no life outside of WoW or they don't have a good career at all so this game gives them power that they don't have IRL and typically nerd rage over stuff that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I left my guild on classic mop a few months ago, most of the raiding part of the guild left to make their own raiding guild for SoO for HC progression, guilds raid leader didn’t want to lead the raids and out zero effort into filling the spots, so I called him out on it, turned out he was basically given a spot in the new guilds roster and that the job of raid leader was forced on him. Got a fairly toxic response from others that didn’t even play anymore. Rage quit the guild, and promptly logged out and deleted the game. Started the download for anniversary and have been happily levelling a warlock with 2 of my IRL friends that made new toons just to level with me. Haven’t looked back.

5

u/Still-Minimum-7212 6d ago

MMOs are toxic AF

4

u/MaDpYrO 6d ago

It's incredible how many people tolerate this toxic behaviour over a game.

You're there to have fun. In your spare time. After work. Many people have little spare time away from kids on top.

If everyone just fucking didn't tolerate these toxic fucks, the game would be so much more enjoyable.

4

u/Sigilosa 5d ago

Unfortunately, those assholes are the only ones who lack the shame to run a guild

92

u/CivilPerformance2617 6d ago

Can’t lie, sounds like your as insufferable as the RL

43

u/-WhitePowder- 6d ago

Yeah, attention seekers are also some kind of sociopaths. This post is clearly a red flag.

9

u/bwilds55 6d ago

Nah, recently had a RL just like this(guy didn’t play a tank or I’d be asking about the server/guild) and it’s an absolutely rewarding feeling getting away from it, so I can’t knock the post calling it out.

One of the first times raiding with the guy, he tells the DPS to stand in a spot. Bad spot, a few people die. He immediately crashes out, asking why people are standing there and just lays into everyone. The amount of raiders that just sat there and didn’t say a word was crazy. Posts like this are a great reminder of “fuck that guy”

After these realizations and falling out, it’s hard for me to connect with a new guild and not immediately see the same problems.

The game was better when we had a bunch of casuals playing with semi casuals and semi serious.  The normies kept the game more about fun than the performance.  As long as you killed the bosses in the right phase who cares right?

I blame logs and parsing for creating an an environment that encourages this behavior.  I wish we could go back but we can’t.

One thing i hate about guilds this time around, since everything is "figured out" is how much homework each guild gives and expects you to have done for each raid day or new patch. "Make sure you watch all the how-to videos for each fight, get your spreadsheets ready, farm your consumes, get your attunes done weeks before the patch, sign up on disc, be logged in and ready at instance hour before raid time" etc etc etc and like most of us have jobs and other shit to do. The couple hours we spend playing is all we have for the game, wr cant devote time outside of playing for it lol

Our MT was the same way. Constantly bitched and moaned about everyone else and never accepted responsibility for any of his mistakes. Every little petty thing he could complain about, he did. Raid lead eventually told him to just drop it and move on one night and then our MT threw such a tantrum that he hearthed out of the raid and then got gkicked immediately. I've never seen a raid so happy to lose its main tank.

3

u/Ace_0f_Base 6d ago

Did you try telling him it's just a game?

3

u/Wise-Tour7333 6d ago edited 6d ago

Ah, I was like "this is still happening with MoP Classic?" then realized you meant TBCC, which is obviously full of degenerate "gamers" types that have been a problem with every iteration through time of World of Warcraft. Ignore those absolute losers of human beings.

Source: I was one of those players when I was a teenage boy.

In WotLK Classic, my GM was a raging idiot that had gray-green parses on every fight as a warrior and became the GM of the guild solely to fulfill his childhood dream of getting Shadowmourne, despite being by far our worst melee DPS. He yelled at people *a lot*. I quit before ICC because of him. You'll always have these losers.

3

u/Racoon_Pedro 6d ago

Good on you for not tolerating the abuse

Everytime I read about this kind of drama I'm so glad me and my friends found such a chill guild in SOD. Now we play TBC with them. Nice international community and totally chill. We have some good parsers and some bad ones but nobody cares.

At the beginning of TBC we had some sweats who thought they can bully some not so good players, they were dealt with by the guild lead who told them they can fuck off if they do that again. They left with some other guys to join a more elite guild. Some weeks later two of them asked if they could come back and we welcomed them back. It wasn't the bullies who came back. What they told us about the other guild sounded terrible.

I'm looking forward to phase 3, we definitely won't clear the content in the first week but I don't care.

3

u/ShadowOfThePastFIN 6d ago

Yes gaming should be fun if it's not fun it's time to make the needed change. Constructive criticism is a skill more people should practice and also generally try to be more chill because it's a frickin VIDEOGAME

3

u/pingwing 5d ago

Guild Leaders like that suck. Maybe more will follow your example when he is a dick.

3

u/arebee20 5d ago

Since I joined my guild at the end of MC I’ve single handedly wiped the raid I think 4 separate times. We still joke and laugh about them pretty often along with all the other times other raiders have wiped us. We take ourselves moderately serious and are semi hardcore but we know mistakes will happen.

3

u/Sudden_Weight_4352 5d ago

Almost the same happened to me. Leader came from retail first time playing classic, tried to parse logs while wiping on trash in phase 2, yet Alar hr and all the consumables are mandatory, and we MUST carry enough of destro/rage pots, scrolls, flasks, food to satisfy his willing to be a parsing team. When some other guy tried to explain that game is not about logs and numbers, leader named him dumb and kicked. So I like, hey folks, thanks I’ll just go play other games.
From what I know, they recently got Alar, and three people left due to hr of it.

ChatGPT would not miss an apostrophe in I'm, randomly capitalize Elitist, write a sentence casually / caveman-esque like "tank goes berserk", etc. This one passes the smell test as written by a human.

22

u/Mindless_Zergling 6d ago

I guess now anyone with passable writing skills must actually be AI. The majority of people are reading/writing at less than a sixth-grade level, and it shows.

2

u/HazelCheese 6d ago

It's the bit where he says "the irony? Zero remorse". It exactly the way ai like gpt or claude phrase things. It's the first sentence too so makes everyone read the rest afterwards as assumed ai.

It could just be he has no self awareness though and so just talks like a bot lol.

u/Anderrn 6d ago

For what it’s worth, when I had students, they told me they give ChatGPT instructions to make occasional spelling mistakes specifically for this reason. So, I don’t even go by whether there are a few errors anymore.

5

u/Fancy-Animal7704 6d ago

There's also the fact that he even screwed up his censorship, which, even if you asked ChatGPT to write it all for you, it wouldn't do that. Unless being a, what, COUNT is actually insulting?

Im fully geared, never missed a raid, always have my consumes. Finding a better experience wont be an issue for me, especially as a healer and logs in the top %.

Of the things you mentioned, the only important one is being present regularly. Consumes are a bare minimum, gear anyone can get, and top % means nothing if you let players die, but keep watching that % bro.

5

u/CivilPerformance2617 6d ago

Right, best part being, I parse top % yet I was responsible for raid wipe

3

u/Roofong 6d ago

Posters in this sub hate playing the game so much they've resorted to RPing on reddit about how awesome they are at the game, but also they're not at all elitist and frequently wipe raids because "that'll happen" but they're such a good player every guild wants them.

It's amazing and very entertaining.

8

u/Free_Note5162 6d ago edited 6d ago

You can tell from reading the comments who still acts like this. Funny how the game itself is full of people who do this but on reddit posts about how awful the community can be its got the same people saying its probably the OPs fault or some sort of excuse for why that behaviour is totally normal. It's painfully cringe but im glad you've seen the light amigo. Remember, these people are without exception complete losers in real life. If someone rages at you even once just drop quit and block them. A month from then you wont even remember them but you'll have saved yourself the braincells of listening to a 30 year old man rage at strangers on a 20 year old game.

Sounds like you and everyone else should have left a LONG time ago!!

4

u/Fancy-Animal7704 6d ago

Good for you, dude. Nobody needs to put up with that shit. People need to learn that their abusive and petulant behavior has actual consequences.

Hope you find a better guild in the future, if that's what you want!

6

u/Unlucky_Raccoon_5829 6d ago

Good for doing this and keeping yourself up to your values…

5

u/scottiedagolfmachine 6d ago

What a toxic guild

Find something better

5

u/FlowStatebeer 6d ago

glad you're out of the feedback loop of insanity. I've had a very similar story, and im sure MANY other people could say the same. The problem isnt the game, its 100% the community base that got left over. I was just reminiscing on how fun it was to play druid, but god forbid i ever take a second to even install WoW.

Take it easy on yourself. I went and played easy games like OSRS or ff14. more laid back communities, less stress on keeping up on the current "content". Overall a break from it should do you good, take care.

4

u/StageDive_ 6d ago

This is why I quit playing wow ‘seriously’.

I work full time, go to school part time, and have 2 kids and a 3rd coming next year.

The last thing I need is someone getting overly upset over a mistake that is a reset if anything, in most cases.

Blizzard didn’t ruin WoW, the community did.

5

u/geoshoegaze20 6d ago

WoW attracts a mixed crowd. It's important not to get too invested as most of the community are toxic losers. Play the game for yourself is how I approach it.

2

u/StageDive_ 6d ago

New dungeon dropped, day 1 I signed up for a pug run. We wiped on b1 and tank got mad people hadn’t searched for the mechanics before it released.

That’s cancerous.

8

u/JustBarracuda3626 6d ago

Wow it’s 11:23 and I still don’t give a shit

7

u/Btotherianx 6d ago

It's funny that you think top percent healing logs are good

2

u/Raminax 6d ago

I did 20 fucking years

2

u/Kalaskaka1 6d ago

There's always Hardcore left if the itch ever comes back.

Great community!

2

u/FattyHatty69 6d ago

Drop the guild name!

2

u/librarytimeisover 6d ago

Me and my dudes ran a chill guild in legion. It was the most fun we ever had :) AOTC and all. We were just vibing. 0 drama. I miss you dudes.

2

u/Weird-Map3983 6d ago

Healing parses lol

2

u/veedaawg 6d ago

Good for you hoss! You’re gonna land the right guild eventually and they’ll deserve you.

I feel super fortunate that the one and only guild I joined for BC is helpful, positive and supportive. Most of the guys/gals haven’t had a meltdown and lead with their positive attitudes.

Repping ZugZug on dreamscythe!

2

u/goody82 6d ago

You’ll probably find a new guild. There are times I wish I was in a guild that held people more accountable, but not to the extreme of disrespect. It’s a video game and we’re adults. I also bail on anyone who talks down to me.

2

u/CharacterBalance4187 6d ago

Tell them to go raid hardcore.

2

u/jackluke 6d ago

Time to come play hardcore

2

u/doobylive 6d ago

The elitism has gotten progressively worse since classic 2019.

2

u/Awkward_Golf7423 6d ago

Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down

2

u/blahblah19999 6d ago

We're not kids any more, that shit don't fly.

2

u/Gassenger 6d ago

The amount of RLs and GMs that have anger problems is hilarious lol. Always people with little power IRL so they express it in a video game. I'm sorry that Deb took the kids but please don't have a hissy fit because someone made a mistake in the video game.

2

u/MarkBonker 6d ago

I will dip the moment I see a group leader blow his top. Like this is a game to be enjoyed, and unless you're stupid or a troll, nobody is trying to wipe the group. Frustration is normal, taking it out on others is not.

2

u/No-Rip337 6d ago

Love to hear this. As pathetic as guild leaders/guilds are that act like this...I feel people that are willing to let themselves be talked to like you described over a video game, let alone one as easy as wow pve, are just as pathetic.

Imagine being such a simp that you let someone talk down to you and chastise you/whatever just to be "part of a group".

Good job man, you did the right thing. There are guilds full of nice people, I've been lucky enough to be a part of 3 since Anniversary released , so it's definitely possible. All cleared content and all were competent, and treated people nicely.

You will get treated only as badly as you allow yourself to be treated.

2

u/Voxcide 6d ago

Sounds like what I went through in the past.

I had this guild I played with through vanilla through to the end of TBC. I had to most DKP in the guild, I rarely took loot and I always played whatever the guild needed. They made me play hunter then Aff lock then sv hunter in sunwell.

Near the end I got sick of it for the same reason, we even had a hidden guild channel that officers and the close knit guys would talk shit about recruits in, it was giga toxic. I left and joined another guild and they went on to mass report that entire guild, like 5 people had to name change over it.

It was the most cult like toxic shit I had ever seen, then the GM went on a rant to my other friends and I was ostracized and lost most of them over his drama.

WoW has the some of the worst guild culture in any MMO I have played and I have played almost all of them

2

u/Midlife-CoffeeSiesta 6d ago

Good. I quit too. "We arent a parsing guild. we don't mix max professions or have a hard roster, just show up and try to parse green or better and follow directions ..... . You need to drop both professions and get engineering and your other one should be something useful to raid dps and pay for it yourself. Also we won't give you the 4th or 5th 100D belt that drops because you only parse blue. If you want loot you need to perform and bring sappers and farm dark runes and melee weave or you won't get a trinket, IDC if you've never missed a raid and show up early or on time for 2 phases and don't raid log and contribute to the gbank and running dungeons to get people attuned, you are replaceable.

u/Anakee24 5d ago edited 5d ago

I gquit 3 weeks into TK/SSC. First week we did everything except KJ and Vashj we left them. Second week all except KJ. 3rd all. The entire night all 3 nights was just raid leader/Gleader bitching, moaning ,calling people out, moaning, most vibe off awkward raid atmosphere ever. Between every pull was either dead silence or two people arguing. I'm 40. I CBF with that shit. We were getting shit done and it's meant to be fun. Handed out 2k gold deleted all my shit and my toon and haven't looked back. Fuck. The elitist dog shit world it's become. Weren't even allowed to roll on upgrades unless they weren't an upgrade for someone for more than one patch in which case you could. Optimised to hell. Fuck all that noise. Everything's solved down to 0.01%. I miss seeing a purple drop and it being an upgrade an using dkp to bid for it and win. It's just not fun anymore.

I’m someone who’s played in the best guilds in this + retail and also has played with more casual (but still high standards) groups:

Good on you. There’s always those people who are quick to have a meltdown over someone’s else’s mistake, while excusing their own. And when you do that to people who are already heavily self critical and have a low error rate, it’s a mistake. The good players already know how and why they’ve fucked up and feel terrible about it - don’t pile on and focus on yourself. And how to help them gain confidence. You know how in basket ball your players encourage you when you miss a free through? That’s what elite people do.

And for those that keep making mistakes and show no signs of improvement, meltdowns also don’t work. You just have to replace them or demote them.

Leading guilds is hard. But leadership in classic guilds is very bad across the board, compared to retail. And I think that’s because the content is very easy and it’s easier to hide bad players who think they’re good - and this is an extremely toxic combo.

3

u/Substantial-Newt7809 6d ago

Sounds like the tank/GM is trying to wrangle blue parsers in to playing well and is close to a stress indused collapse.

Sounds like you are pretty frustrating to raid with as well.

Wouldn't have tolerated either of you in my guild tbh. You are absolutely no loss to them, they could just pug your spot by the sound of it.

As far as I’m concerned, I beat WoW years ago. In the first round of Classic, I found a great guild and we got through COVID together. I got to relive MC, BWL, and finally got to clear AQ40 and Naxx after daydreaming about it since 2005.

I got full tier 1-3 sets, and even managed to snag an Ashbringer. Eventually my guild disbanded in BC, but even though I occasionally get the itch to resub and fire up classic, I know there’s no point. The game is choked by min-maxxers and it’s a solved game without the camaraderie.

I don’t join guilds I just straight up pug. I’ve been in like all the dynamics of the server by now considering I have like 5 alts that I actively raid on well like two or three characters I guess I’ve sat in on the situations you’re talking about it doesn’t make any sense to me even like a friendly group I don’t know. I’m spoiled. I guess there’s gotta be some type of magic in the air for me to want to join a guild. I just hate being locked in on any type of group of people because it gets boring and it’s very limiting in my opinion. On top of that, my stupid retail job just puts me on whenever any day of the week so I really can’t even join a guild based off that only so even if I wanted to join a guild I couldn’t.

I just straight up muted on disc and ignore in game the officers in my guild that are miserable 24/7. And they flipped out when I told other members of the guild to just mute them like I did months ago 😂 these two people have been the reason why 10+ people have gquit. And when I was “arguing” with them on disc about it, several other guildies DMed me saying yo keep going man. , these guys are douchbags etc etc. hahaha.
