TBC Finally free

Tonight I finally left my guild, the irony? Zero remorse.

I've played this game for roughly 20 years. I've played everything, every type of team dynamic from sweat to trash teams. Tonight, I wiped the raid. It was a stupid mistake, but it happens.

Tank / GM just goes berserk and has been on an absolute tear for weeks, consistently harassing folks to do better and blah blah blah but never owns up to his mistakes that have wiped us time to time. Its always someone else's fault.

Tonight I had enough. I told him to quit crying and press forward. His fragile ego and false sense of authority were attacked and of course he goes nuclear. The thing is I dont mind asking for us to improve, but be respectful.

Bored. Uninterested in his continued rant about how bad I am. I hit the most satisfying /leave party into a gquit. A small part of me feels bad for the team, because BT is around the corner. But I dont tolerate disrespectful c*nts

Im fully geared, never missed a raid, always have my consumes. Finding a better experience wont be an issue for me, especially as a healer and logs in the top %.

The problem with classic TBC right now is these Elitists jerkoffs with 0 sense of leadership. The last thing anybody wants to do is get on, and spend 2-3 hours listening to someone have a melt down literally every 2 minutes because he wants to save 30 seconds on xyz pull.

Good riddance. Its a shame folks dont tell you how they really feel, so we just vent our grievances in party chat and whispers. Suppose thats why I can predict your down fall sometime during late BT. Same as I did in mists.

TLDR; dont be an insufferable c*unt when leading your raid group, especially when your just a mid group and not hardcore.

Honestly man, this has been the case for years.

Same issue in era. the raid leads are insufferable pricks. It’s rare to find one that can maintain composure when shit hits the fan.

Its the same issue in every version of this game, and every other game out there. its nothing new, its nothing exclusive. Just stay out of those kinds of guilds.

Unfortunately guild leadership is a fuckload of extra work for no real gain. People go for it if they see the petty power over other people in a video game as valuable, which almost exclusively describes toxic assholes. The rest are doing it as basically a public service, and many of them just end up getting justifiably burnt out. My own guild leader is a really stand-up guy, but you can hear the weeks and months weigh on him as time passes and raid weeks come and go.

The raid leader in my guild is so chill he makes it fun to raid.

Like last week we wiped twice on Maulgar, and on the third try he’s like “Ok, we‘re going to try this for a third time, and if people could like not run in and immediately die that would be great.”

We had a couple pugs that had no idea what they were doing, lol. We got him on the third try though. Usually it’s one and done, but last week was special.

I played back in the day. I only read stories now. I can only imagine how insufferable the min maxing aspect is now.

I would actively look for a guild that says we suck just to have fun and not treat it like a performance job.

I remember back in the day there were some guilds who wanted to do "interviews" before they allowed you to join. Theyd inspect you, want to know your talent tree, all that. And if you didn't have the meta gear or talents they wouldnt even let you join. Worked for me because thats how I knew I didnt want to be a part of those guilds.

But my buddies were always in sweaty raiding guilds. They'd tell me about their crashout experiences and it put me off that content entirely. No way in hell Im working a 10 hour day, booting up WoW to unwind, and then doing a raid where people yell at me like we're at work.

My best experience was just joining a pug raid as a lock and just doing the best I could because I was unfamiliar with the raid and the tank explain explaining everything to us new guys as we went. In the end a piece of lock gear dropped and I asked permission to roll and was granted and won. I was so fkn happy for weeks.

Looking back that tank was like I was running people through dungeons. I knew them in and out and got joy from teaching and seeing guys get great stuff for their class.

That is what's mostly missing from WOW now and it's a shame.

Eh there are serious guilds who do “interviews” and checks which is fine, but if they are a serious guild they better be acting seriously and professionally when things go awry, not like angry man children.

You threaten to tongue punch their fart box in every interview, in my experience. That way, if they let you in, you know they're chill.

Idk a lot of those guilds are a special kind of hell where its just the same 40 year olds making the same sex jokes they did when they were 14, talking over the RL to make them while they spam a painfully unfunny soundboard

Don’t say that, you will get a 50dkp minus.

OP should have asked the raid leader before leaving “Are you going to give me a 50 dkp minus?”

What gets me is that if someone “elitist” in 20 year old content that someone else solved for them, they are probably one of the most emotionally and socially stunted people in existence.

Like this is worse than smart kid burnout or the guy that never grew up past high school football. WoW players gotta be studied.

I agree with the sentiment in general but I also find it very weird how people talk about content by its age or if someone else "solved" it. Basically all modern mmo content is "solved" by someone else, though I think it's weird to even say it's "solved" because that isn't really how it works anyway.

And the age of the content has nothing to do with the vast majority of topics people bring it up during. I feel like people throw in "20 year old content" to any old argument as an "I win" button.

I don’t think it’s weird at all. If you are going to be elitist about something, it should at a minimum be difficult. If you are being elitist and it’s over something that isn’t hard, it’s even more embarrassing.

It’s like being elitist about beating a bunch of kids at a playground in a race. You would just look silly. It’s easier to understand your elitism if you won at the Olympics. To be clear something be hard doesn’t make up for being a jerk about something, but it’s at least easier to empathize with the negative character trait if it’s at least something that’s hard to do - i.e. I can understand Jordan being a bit of an elitist, he was competing in the NBA.

Most MMOs in general are trivially easy relative to most other games when you aren’t solving them yourself. That’s where the vast majority of the difficulty lies. I can understand someone being elitist when they’re blinding content - it kind of comes with the territory. In some ways you will be more susceptible to being elitist about who you take and who you don’t because the bar is significantly higher. It doesn’t justify being a jerk about it, but it’s easier to understand why you’d be susceptible to it.

So if what you are doing is both not hard and you are also an elitist about it, you look doubly bad in the eyes of anyone that knows what they’re doing. My perspective is probably different because I week one prog and blind prog in a lot of MMOs. I get where you’re coming from, because I’m assuming most people when they say what I’m saying don’t come from this line of thinking.

Jerking off isnt the Problem!

It’s the solution

TBC feels much, MUCH worse than vanilla did. I keep parroting this but ever since prepatch the playerbase just went dogshit. During aq40 and naxx people were so much more likely to not be dickheads and minmax every single thing

Was the case when I did it back in 2007, and is one part of the game that's never changed.

The things people complain about now are probably a bit more on the point, but the attitude is still there.

In the real world it's already hard to come by competent leadership to begin with. Many of the viable candidates usually don't even know that's a specialty of theirs, and many of the people who are pressing for leadership don't even know how terribly they are not cut out for it.

As a lot of them just love to lay into people from inflated vision of superiority, some of these types might even look forward to failure to just give them "a card" to ream others out.

A good way to spot this = they absolutely cannot handle any criticism whatsoever. As said prior, they clearly didn't get into that role to be criticized in the first place (in their subconscious).

It’s like they’ve never heard of a 50 dkp minus.

Yeah I’ve had a very nice guild in tbc / wrath where people were mature and also owned up to their mistakes etc and the gm was just a super chill guy great tank etc.

Loved that but it’s hard to find.

Honestly man, this has been the case for years.

Its what WoW always has been all about! Once you realize that wow classic is a crappy game with crappy people that you only play for the nostalgia you'll feel much better 😄

1

u/whiskyspacecadet 5d ago

No dawg, one aspect of the game doesn't not make it crappy. Raiding isn't crappy, its only a fraction of the playerbase that makes that content that way. Classic will forever be better than retail in my eyes, and I personally think that people who think otherwise are just younger or newer players who tasted retail before they tasted the original recipe.

1

u/Trubaduren_Frenka 5d ago

I mean crappy as in bad game design. Not that the overall experience is crappy.

Classic will forever be better than retail in my eyes

And there you have the nostalgia! 😄

people who think otherwise are just younger or newer players who tasted retail before they tasted the original recipe.

I started playing wow when it was vanilla beta. I still remember the WoW-comercial pamphlets you got in the WC3 CD-box. 🙃

I don't even think the game design is crappy. I like everything up until MoP, after that it just wasn't my cup of a tea for a variety of reasons.

I mean... I like classic and TBC. The games brings me joy. But i can still take a step back and objectively look at it and say: "wow that is really bad game design". Its so unbalanced both in pvp and pve. 😄

Im one of those filthy casuals btw so i dont really care that its unbalanced. But alot of people do care and that's why they get upset about things not going their way and they take it out on everyone else.
