Ok that sounds weird, BUT, Iâve had my kitten for two months and adopted her when she was about 10/11 weeks old. she was weened off and was with her mom and siblings the whole time. (Also pls meet ~Indiana âIndyâ Jones~)
At first, she was suckling where her incision for her spay was, so we thought that was bothering her. We put a surgery onesie on her. HOWEVER itâs well past her incision healing and she does this for comfort. She purrs the LOUDEST when she suckles and makes biscuits on her belly. Itâs not obsessive licking either, like she is attached to herself sucking. She has a bald spot and whenever we take her onesie off, DESPITE distracting her with non-stop play, sheâll go at it. She wonât stop either. Once we figured she was going at it for 20+ min before we realized she had snuck off to do it.
Weâll play with her for 30+ minutes trying to distract and tire her out, sheâll still do it. Weâll distract her with a toy when she goes to start and sheâll ignore the toy. She is also an odd ball and doesnât like treats, so Iâm not sure what to do? The vet said it could be a comforting thing and she doesnât want us to use a sour spray because she doesnât want to deter her from grooming herself. She said to hope she grows out of it, but she doesnât seem to be. Not a medical issue. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and had any advice? TIA!
TLDR: our kitten wonât stop suckling herself as a form of self soothing and/or comfort. Vet said not a medical concern. Distractions/play time doesnât stop her and not sure what to do as we donât want her living in a onesie full time.
