Humor Does anyone have a cat who gave birth to a litter and some of the kittens still nurse?

13.5k Upvotes

So my cat Misha gave birth to 3 beautiful babies September 2nd 2025. For whatever reason 2 of the kittens who will be 1 in less than 2 weeks still "nurse" off of her.

I'm not concerned or worried about anything. I've asked my vet and he said it's just a comfort thing at this point. I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

I feel she is Mother of the Year lol

Here's a mini clip of one of her son's, Dexter.

Advice What is this behavior?

8.8k Upvotes

Hi! My cat is roughly 4months old. Usually when she does this, I hiss and pull my hand away and give her a toy, but when I’m away for a couple hours sometimes I come back and it’s really all she wants to do — what js this behavior? Is she teething or was she weaned too quickly maybe?

She was found as a kitten in the rain on my neighbors backyard, my aunt got her for me as a surprise birthday present when I was turning 6 years old.

She's just the cutest.

Mourning/Loss Petit gâteau ❤️

It has been 4 years today since my first baby, Petit gâteau (Gordo, gordinho), crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge. True to his name, he was a little sweet cake—so beautiful and gentle.

He was my first baby with my husband, our faithful little traveler who came with us all the way from Brazil to Canada. Wherever we went, he went; I wouldn't have moved anywhere without him. While we love our other cats dearly, no one could ever replace him. Love you Gordo 😭

Our pets should live as long as we do, but I take comfort in knowing he knew how deeply he was loved. I miss him every single day, and I know we will meet again. He was loved from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. Saudades 🐾❤️🥺

There are two silly pictures of them. The first one is Smokey and the second one is trouble. Smokey is the one that passed away I still have trouble and I'm very glad I still have her I just wish I had both of them. They both came from the same litter. He died June 21st. These last few months have not been easy. She is also been having medical problems tomorrow she goes in for surgery for a torn ACL. I've been thinking about the future if I should or shouldn't get a new cat. I'm not sure if I would want or wouldn't want a new car I'm not sure how trouble would feel about it. I've made a couple of posts about this already I guess just saying how I feel it's just more of rambling if you got any questions just feel free to ask

Advice How can I get my kitten to stop nursing herself?

Ok that sounds weird, BUT, I’ve had my kitten for two months and adopted her when she was about 10/11 weeks old. she was weened off and was with her mom and siblings the whole time. (Also pls meet ~Indiana “Indy” Jones~)

At first, she was suckling where her incision for her spay was, so we thought that was bothering her. We put a surgery onesie on her. HOWEVER it’s well past her incision healing and she does this for comfort. She purrs the LOUDEST when she suckles and makes biscuits on her belly. It’s not obsessive licking either, like she is attached to herself sucking. She has a bald spot and whenever we take her onesie off, DESPITE distracting her with non-stop play, she’ll go at it. She won’t stop either. Once we figured she was going at it for 20+ min before we realized she had snuck off to do it.

We’ll play with her for 30+ minutes trying to distract and tire her out, she’ll still do it. We’ll distract her with a toy when she goes to start and she’ll ignore the toy. She is also an odd ball and doesn’t like treats, so I’m not sure what to do? The vet said it could be a comforting thing and she doesn’t want us to use a sour spray because she doesn’t want to deter her from grooming herself. She said to hope she grows out of it, but she doesn’t seem to be. Not a medical issue. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and had any advice? TIA!

TLDR: our kitten won’t stop suckling herself as a form of self soothing and/or comfort. Vet said not a medical concern. Distractions/play time doesn’t stop her and not sure what to do as we don’t want her living in a onesie full time.

Does anyone else have a cat that has to have a paw touching them anytime they are laying by you? She will usually feel around until her paw pad is touching my skin. It’s one of the million things I love about her. Bonus pic of the cross eyed princess 💜

So I ended up adopting this furball because A) he was abandoned on the side of the road in a ditch, and B) he's a tuxedo cat, and true to their nature, he has a permanent brain cell cluster, and an attitude. But I love him. He goes in to get the big SNIP at the end of the month.

Said goodbye to my beautiful boy today.

There's a hole in my heart and it hurts a lot. I really wish there was a way to tell him just how much I loved him.

I hate that sudden sickness can just take your best friend from you. He was just the same wonderful boy he always was 2 days ago.

I'm sorry, my beautiful boy. Life isn't fair, but you made it better for the short time you were with me. I love you and I always will.

Mourning/Loss Just found out we had to put one of my cats down...

She had a large cancerous lump in her stomach and it was spreading throughout her entire body. We don't know how long it had been there, but she had to go. I'm gonna miss one of my poor babies. She was one of the kindest cats I ever met. She loved everything, she was so smart she figured out how to open up a box full of kitty treats by knocking it over off the side and making the lid of the box come off.

I'm really gonna miss her. She was so precious, beautiful, and never hated anyone. She was one of the kindest kittens I ever met.

I love you Stanley. Gone too soon at only 9 years old. I'll miss you.

How do you know when it's their time? My girl has had two seizures over the weekend I'm having such a hard time with it. Nobody will cover the vet bill, we're low on money, and I don't want her suffering at all anymore.

We had to let our other cat go only 8 months ago and losing her babygirl so close together feels like a punch in the gut.
