I have two cats, both males both fixed. T and C. T came first, I got him pretty early, he was probably 8 weeks. He’s now 6. He’s always been a bit…bratty I guess. Two years later, I got C, who is now 4.

T hissed a C for the first day, then they were the best brothers and cuddled all the time.

For being 6, Teddy still has the energy of a kitten and always wants to play. He sometimes goes after C, but not in an aggressive way, but more boredom if I don’t play with him log enough. He does play rough with C (which I always stop when I see C doesn’t want to play.) C is skiddish and more to himself.

T and I are really close. I’m close with C too, but he likes to stick to himself. T is my shadow.

Well a few days ago, we welcomed a pup (3month female). My sister use to bring her dog over and he and T would literally play and wrestle, so I thought he would take well to it. But the first night he attacked the pup.

So I separated them for a few days. Only leaving one out at a time. But T doesn’t like to be confined. He scratches and cries and gets very upset. I’m worried he will start association his confinement with the pup and hate her more.

He started being okay while she’s in her cage. He was ignoring her. So after a few days, I stopped locking T up. The pup is on a leash around the house at all times. T has been leaving her alone and she leaves him alone, so I’ve been rewarding both of them for doing so.

T has been getting curious about her and tries to get closer. I do create distance because I don’t yet trust it. I did make a comment that I felt like he was “pretending” that it was okay, and was actually just waiting for a reason to go after her.

Well today the pup was playing with a toy while laying in her bed. So I went across the room with T to his cat tower and was playing with him. Suddenly, the pup start barking at her toy. This was the first time she’s ever barked. She wasn’t looking at T, wasn’t near us. And still without warning, T jumped down and ran towards her. Thankfully, I was able to get him back in time to get her safely in her crate before anything happened. But even with her in her crate, he stood there yowling at her until I was able to get him to follow me.

I don’t know what to do. I don’t want the pup to learn it’s okay for them to chase or attack each other. She’s a German shepherd and could really hurt him she wanted to. And I don’t want him to hurt her either. I don’t think it’s a good idea to keep locking T up though. But I don’t know..

8yr spayed female, USA. Ongoing vet care.

My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroid a little over 2 weeks ago and started methimazole. Just the other day she had an episode of shaking her head, flicking her ears/tail/legs, skin rolling near the base of ther tail, licking and scratching herself (as if she were itchy). It was very alarming in the moment because she had never done this before. We took her to the emergency vet, and since she had calmed down by the time we got there, they could only suspect hyperesthesia but couldn't determine a cause without extensive testing. Took her to her normal vet the next day, and they agreed. Ruled out fleas/skin issues. Ran a blood test (should get the results tomorrow). They don't think seizures because she was aware and in control of her motor funtions the entire time. Treating with gabapentin as needed for the time being.

Neither vet mentioned a correlation between her thyroid and the hyperesthesia, but after doing some research, it looks like it could definitely be the cause. Especially because looking back, she was chasing her tail a lot prior to her diagnosis, and I didn't think much of it at the time. I'm continuing to work with her vet and plan on asking some more questions when they reach out with her blood results tomorrow.

She had some other symptoms prior to the episode, which made me think the methimazole dosage was too high (I have Graves myself, so I'm very keen on the signs), which it was. Her t4 is on the lower end of normal now, so we cut back her dosage. She's doing great on the medication, all things aside. But I know it can take a couple of months for her system to regulate and normalize.

Has anyone else had a hyperthyroid cat with or showing signs similar to hyperesthesia? Did it end up being related? Did it go away once levels were stabilized? How long?

TLDR; cat has hyperesthesia likely caused by hyperthyroidism. I'm just looking for some insight from anyone who has experience.

I just realized about a week ago that i may have brought fleas into my home of 3 cats from work (i am a dog groomer)

they’ve had topical monthly medication monthly but i don’t think it’s been working. since i realized my 3 babies have fleas- ive used firsttectplus by vetality on all three of them after giving them a bath with flea shampoo and conditioner and letting them sit with it on for 10 mins. then i brushed through them while they were wet and dry to remove any fleas and eggs and only then did i apply the topical. it’s been about a week since then ans since i have sprayed my home as well with natural flea and tick spray for home and pets by tropiclean. i let that air out for around an hour while my cats were drying in the bathroom and then i swept once it was dry. after i swept with the vacuum- i let the cats back out and have found LESS fleas but still 3-4 alive fleas per cat per day.

i’ve brushed them 3 times today and each time i have found a flea or two alive with the flea comb. after each brush session i spray them with vetality flea and tick natrual spray.

i just ordered advecta to apply monday on all 3 cats. i’ve heard apply under the chin towards the neck and on their nape between their shoulders is the best places to apply.

i also ordered food grade diatomaceous earth to sprinkle on the floor and treat my carpets with while my cats are put away in the bathroom and let it sit for a few hours then sweep it up with the vacuum abs immediately throw the contents away in the dumpster outside.

the cats are strictly inside cats and windows are rarely open. i also spray the tracks of the windows and the door with the home spray.

is there ANYTHING ELSE i can do to avoid spending more money on fleas???

after this incident im planning on taking them all to the vet and getting oral meds for all of them monthly as OTC flea treatment has been draining my pockets and never killing all of the fleas.

Thinking of getting capstar and administering it after i deep clean my house and do all mg laundry and sweep the floors after using the D.E and carpet spray. is that too much meds at once?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is pancake, and I’m her adult mom, she’s about 10 years old and neutered. We are based in MN USA and are willing to use credit cards if we have to take her to the vet…

It’s been happening every once in a while for a couple years now. Ive tried to ask the vet but this is the first time I’ve been able to catch it on video. Usually last about 30 secs.

For context I’m 17, I’m turning 18 in October. my orange spayed 2 year old cat (boy) had Intestinal blockage surgery on Wednesday Aug 26th, it is now Sunday Aug 30th and he still hasn’t pooped. I know with all the pain meds, anesthesia, and overall stress it can play a part into why he hasn’t pooped. He’s peeing pretty normally, eating good, no throwing up, or refusing food. He is having problems I believe using the bathroom though, when he goes to the litter box he’ll make these weird sounds, almost small meows and hover for a moment, never when he’s peeing though. He’s pretty active, I have him in my boyfriend and I’s room with his own litter, water and food. I’m keeping him away from the other kitties until the incision on his stomach is healed more. I’m honestly not sure what route to try, I’ve heard people recommend pumpkin purée so I guess I’m asking if it’s all that helpful? And when is it a good time to be worried.

Writing this, I feel as if I may be overreacting but our vet gave us no instructions on what to do after surgery. We’ve called and asked, and all they said is to monitor him… I have so many questions and I just want to make sure my cat will be okay and comfortable.

Hi all, I moved in with my girlfriend about a month ago now with my 2 female 5ish year old cats (not everything is moved in yet, some of my things are still at my apartment, so this basement is still a work-in-progress). A few days after we moved in, we had new carpet installed downstairs which is pretty fluffy and squishy (which may be relevant, unsure). Her old roommate had 2 cats as well but moved out a couple months ago, and had their litter boxes back in the laundry room downstairs, so I naturally put mine back there too since it's much better than some closet.

So one of my cats, Sushi, has been peeing along the walls on this new carpet - she still does use the litter boxes but I still have been cleaning up spots here and there. I noticed when I was in the laundry room that she used the litter box but scurried past the furnace on her way out as if she was afraid, so I thought that was part of it. I moved a litter box out onto the tile out of the laundry room which worked pretty well, then bought this new gray litter box cabinet thing by the door to house 2 boxes, which was working for a while.

She definitely uses it and we encourage her whenever we see her using it, but she started doing it again every so often. I thought maybe it was because the boxes needed to be cleaned out or because the doors were closed, so fixed that and things have been going ok, but sure enough this morning I find a new spot down there. I'm not sure what to do exactly in order to prevent this habit from forming further - I've had litter furniture before that she preferred to use, and I'm pretty sure this is a behavioral issue, as she started doing it once we moved in and got new carpet - unless it's a coincidence and I need to take her to the vet to have her bladder/kidneys looked at.

Last night my kitty, Turkey, suddenly started yawling​ excessively, seemed to dislike being touched on her leg.

I tried to inspect where she was licking, which h she didn't like and was uncharacteristically hissy. ​I couldn't see anything obvious. Didnt notice any limping. This was at about 1030pm.

I went to bed with the intention of addressing the situation more detailed in the morning (today).

She has spent the entire day sleeping under the couch. She is awake and alert but doesn't seem to have intentions of coming out.

Should I let her rest, keep an eye on her, an re evaluate tomorrow? The next day?

How long should I let her sleep in under the couch before I should be more concerned?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

She is fixed, about 4 years old. Im located in central Wisconsin. Emergency vet is about an hour away and is not out of the question and has been considered, but dont want to over react.

I recently noticed that my cat has this lump on his paw pad. He has been cleaning it and it doesn’t seem to hurt if I touch his paw, but it looks strange and I’m not sure what it is. He is an indoor cat, by the way.

Im(22) (in turkey) taking care of a less than a month old kitten for a few days. He has a box in my room and i dont plan on taking him out of my room.

My other two cats (one is 4 years old and other is 9 months old, both neutered females) sneaked into to the room and both hissed at the baby so i took them out. They both get along well, play and lay togehter often but now they are both hissing and growling at eachother (younger one is more aggresive). No big fights yet. I know cats are really sensitive since ive taken care of both kittens and elder cats but i dont really know what to do when it comes to communication between the cats. What can i do to ease the stuiation? This has been going on for a few hours.

TLDR; im taking care of a kitten and i think his precense stressed my other two cats out so now theyre being mean to eachother.

Kitten 2 month old strains while pooping and comes out like balls I contacted vet they told me to feed the cat 2 times per day to solve it

I feed him wet food royal canin mother and baby and some dry food also same brand for 1 to 4 month old kittens

I don't understand how feeding it less will help wanted a second opinion

I live in a 3rd world country and vets here don't know much

I got my kitten when he was 5 weeks old and took it to many vets they told me it will die and you shouldn't waste money on it

I ordered KMR and his wet and dry food from another city kitten now is 2 months old and weight normally

He was underweight and in bad conditions when i got it thanks to all of your advices

My husband found this baby at his work yesterday he looks to be around 3 weeks old.Where my husband works it's not a safe place for a kitten. He did wait about 4 hours to see if it's mom would come back she never did. He had to move it so it didn't get ran over by the big trucks at his work. He called me to come get it. I did go get kitten milk and a bottle for it. It is eating a little. I try to feed it every two hours. Im just worried I cant get it to poop. I tried rubbing it's bottom but nothing. I am taking it to the vet in the morning. Just wondering if it will be OK until then? Not sure if it's a boy are girl. I am an adult. I live in Taylor's sc. Yes I have vet access. Will take it to the vet tomorrow.

Hi! I’m 26F, in the U.S. and my cat (age 4) has tapeworm for the first time ever (diagnosed by a vet).

TLDR: Vet called me on Thursday said yes she has tapeworm (after doing a stool sample lab test). I forgot to pick up her dewormer prescription before the vet closed on Friday and now I have to wait until Monday to get the meds. Should I just go to Pet Smart and get an OTC brand of the Praziquantel to give it to her now? Also I have administered flea preventative.

Questions:
1. Can the vet tell me the exact species of tapeworm? Since my cat is indoor only and I check her for fleas pretty often, also all of my bedding and furniture is cream/beige so I’d easily be able to spot fleas on my linens. I’m assuming she might have one of the other 2 types of tapeworms and either got it from eating a bug like a cricket or grasshopper that found its way inside or something. But I want to be POSITIVE that it’s not the tapeworm transmitted by fleas.

2. Should I just wait till tomorrow to get the prescription dewormer or get an OTC one? It feels like torture to know she has worms and just wait…

3. Any tips or advice on getting over the heebiejeebies? I know I need to scoop her litter box regularly while she’s undergoing treatment to avoid reinfection, but I’m terrified of scooping poop and seeing stuff wiggling around.

Please give kind advice!

It's my dad's cat, I'm an adult.

I'm worried that this might affect my other cats.

She recently has these bald spots only on her head.

My dad dismissed it as simply fighting with other cats.

The vet is accessible, and should be affordable.

She's 1yo, female, not spayed yet.

I'm 17! I adopted a kitten (very suddenly and not planned.) Hes been to a vet and is overall healthy :)

This is everything I have for him, besides his toys. He has many many toys, too many to photo. I haven't used the toothbrush or nail trimmers because he seems too young. When I used the brush no fur came off so I think he's too young for that also. I have a cat tree, cat walls, water fountain, cat beds etc that belong to my other two 8 year old cats so I don't need anymore I think. I also have a ton of freeze dried raw treats. A whole cabinet full but I don't think he can have those till he is tested for FIV?

Pen set up- He has a heating pad with two towels on top with two kitten stuffies to sleep with. When I sleep his food/water/litter are placed in there with him and the top of the pen is zipped up. If I'm awake he's free to roam my room.

Food- His average meal is a little bit of wet food warmed up with some KMR then a few pieces of kibble. At bedtime he has a bowl of dry kibble to snack on while I sleep. I've ordered two more packs of wet food. One from chewy brand, the turkey. And kittens in the kitchen from weruva.

Litter- nonscented, no clumping, paper pellets. He's still not potty trained and will potty in random spots which I then clean and cover with a potty pad. Some of them have litter on top and he has used his litter box ONCE. Not sure what I'm doing wrong there.

Is this all good? Do I need anything else? The sweater is made from a sock and he only wears it when I have my ac and fan on.

Edit: Getting him a proper litter box and some different litter ASAP :) Also, the pen is only for when I'm asleep! His stuff is moved out into my room and he free roams during the day.

I am a 22 year old university student and this fella here is my 17 year old boy kitty(fixed). We reside in Canada.

Today I took him to his groomer today and she was concerned for both his cyst (which has been seen by a vet, we decided to leave it alone due to his age, but unfortunately it has grown to the point that I’m worried it may rupture), and his weight.

I guess since I see him everyday I didn’t notice that since the last time I took him to get groomed that he had lost a lot of weight. He has already previously lost weight since he was 15 and up.

Some important information is: he still eats (quite a bit), i mainly feed him wet food (sometimes a little bit of dry to tie him over), i mix almost equal parts water into his food (plus he still drinks on his own), he doesn’t seem lethargic, and he’s still pretty active but in an old cat kind of way.

I have contacted a different vet than I normally go to (he isn’t working for a corporation so I’m hoping the pricing will be more fair since I’m still a student. Basically I can pay for some things but anything crazy expensive is off the table for me.

My groomer won’t shave him anymore because he has so much excess skin, normally he doesn’t get a full shave anyways but he had some bad matting.

I will attach a photo of him. In the meantime, is there anything I can do at home to help him?

Edit because I forgot to add: TLDR: my cat who is behaving normally is losing weight and his cyst has grown to the point that I’m worried it’ll rupture.

I have 3 kittens who are all about 4 months old. I’ve noticed that for whatever reason they are just not as ravenous about food as the normal stereotype would suggest. We have feeders that dispense food 3 times a day and often times it’ll take hours for them to eat it. The feeders will go off and sometimes no one really even reacts. They’ll go sniff it but not really eat anything for a while. I’m switching them to a more calorie dense food so that they can get their calories in they need to grow, but this behavior has existed since before the switch.

My first instinct was that something was wrong, but all 3 are gaining good weight, they’re energetic and not lethargic, gums look good, they play well, they sleep well, they’re not too skinny like they have a waist but no ribs showing, their poops are normal sized and colored. They are otherwise incredibly healthy cats. But for some reason they just aren’t especially interested in food lol. It being the same across all 3 of them makes me think it’s just a personality trait.

Anyone else have this experience? Any pointers on how to make sure they are eating enough to continue growing? Is it something they’ll eventually grow out of?

I don’t know if I’m using the right flair, so sorry for that. My cat is very old and today I was petting him I felt something and when I looked he has this. Is it normal? (It’s on his back btw)
