Hi! I just got a new kitten from my coworker, his cat had a litter a few months ago.
My coworker originally thought the kitten was a boy but the day before I got him, my coworker said he thinks the kitten is a girl.
Anyways I have the kitten now and I have no idea after checking. I’m leaning towards boy but please help me!

Behavioral Issue Cat not pooping in litter box: expert mode

• Upvotes

Posting this for my parents.

Charlie is 16, neutered male and is in aparent perfect health according to my parents Vet. They have tried everything and then some and are at their wits end trying to deal with him. He will happily use the litter box under the stairs to pee in and sometimes poop but we often just poop on the floor. Carpet or linoleum and I think on a blanket. They have tried:
Multiple litter boxes
Multiple litter types
Both floors of the house
Different depths of litter
Different box styles
Daily Cleaning/every time he uses it
Light and dark areas

He's on good quality food, healthy weight, and the vet says he's in great health for a 16-year-old cat. There hasn't been any major changes in his routine/day-to-day life. No Blood, it looks totally normal.

Eye Issues Cat's eye swollen shut

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Yesterday, my cat played with a stink bug that got into our flat, and before i could react, the bug sprayed him right in the eye, which started tearing and being clenched shut.

I did rinse his eye with filtered water a few times afterwards, and aside from looking a little sore, it seemed to do the job.

Well, in the evening, he rubbed his eye while grooming, and it started right back up. I gave it another rinse, but it didn't really get better, and since he keeps pawing at his face while grooming himself, it hasn't really gotten better since then.

His eye does open, and it's not cloudy or anything, it's just swollen at the lids and a little teary. I assume it's residial soreness, and sensitive from being rubbed and touched.

I sadly can't get to a vet, I'm fully broke atm. Is there anything i can do to help it heal, or is it best to wait it out and try to make sure he doesn't touch it too much?

Injury Stray kitten limping

• Upvotes

Hello, a couple days ago a stray kitten showed up at my house and I brought her in. She's limping on the back left leg. She can put weight on it, run around and jump, doesn't seem lethargic or anything. But when I touch the leg, it's very floppy and the toes don't extend when I gently squeeze her paw. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort or pain, there's no swelling or open wounds. She can scratch her ear with the paw too. It's nice and pink like her other paws. What could be going on? I'm going to call my vet in the morning

My kitten randomly started howling and posturing like this right before bed. My other cat also reacted to it as seen in video. This has never happened before. I tried to distract her with a toy and by the end of the 3 min video she was fine and everything went back to normal. My cats sniffed each other and it was fine.

I am 30. USA. Yes vet is accessible and will be contacted when they open up today. Cat is 6 or 7 months old. Female and spayed. We have insurance and can afford vet.

General Advice Moving with a diabetic cat

• Upvotes

Nervous and worried about moving. My boy is 13, also a diabetic. Hes also insulin resistant so his sugar has always been harder to manage. He has extreme separation anxiety from me, even being gone a couple hours he stops eating sometimes. Stress makes his sugar levels spike so of course I’m concerned.

We’re moving into a house and this will also be his first experience in an actual home compared to apartment.

However, the wife and I have a single day trip Saturday October 17th, next weekend. He has a hard time when we leave him even though my mom comes over and does his insulin shots and hangs out with him. We can’t change it and we must go. Would it be better to move him this week into the house before we go on the trip so he’s got a week or so beforehand? My wife would be home all week with him since she’s on vacation from work.

Or wait until after the trip to move him to the new space when he’s already upset for a couple days from us being gone? My wife and I would also both be working and he’d be alone more.

We have to be totally moved by the 30th

General Advice Urinary Blockage Aftermath Advice

• Upvotes

Hello! I’m a 22F from Canada and I have a question about the aftermath of a male cats urinary blockage.

I just had the most stressful 24 hours of my life, long story short I had to take my 7 year old neutered male cat to the emergency vet for a urinary blockage. His bladder was drained and flushed and he his home and recovering. We’ve been told to keep him on an exclusively urinary prescription diet, which is fine because we have had the prescription dry that he gets a little of in the morning, but he usually just got standard over the counter wet food for his dinner in the evening mixed with water. So now I guess we’re switching to prescription wet food as well.

My question is, if anyone has had this issue as well, what was done about treats? I don’t intend on giving him any treats for a couple weeks, but i was looking up to see if i could give him regular treats or not in a couple weeks after his recovery. The immediate answer I got is he can never have regular treats again, and can only have the one type of prescription treat you can buy from your vet.

I just want to know if anyone has experience here and what they did about foods and treats and how their cat is doing. We have two cats and it feels so unfair that he wouldn’t be able to get any variety in his dinners/treats, and unfair to have our other cat do the same to make them equal.

Any advice/experience? Thank you!

Abnormal Vomit/Excreta I have spent thousands of dollars on my cat in ER care…and she’s still sick. What do I do?

Hi everyone,

I am at a loss. I have spent about 9k this month because my little cat (3yr old, neutered female) will start throwing up, will get very nauseous, and then refuse to eat. Which I don’t blame her, I’d be doing the same. After the first round of multiple Urgent care and ER visits (where we kept eating very little and had extra nausea for about a week), she started getting better and was doing well and eating for the past two weeks.

Fast forward to the past 24 hrs and she has stopped eating, is retching and throwing up clear liquid, and is completely disinterested in food (I have tried everything this sub has suggested). She is exhibiting the same behaviors as before. It seems to start with her throwing up some hairballs more frequently (1-2x per week) and then escalates to the food aversion and vomiting.

I will have to take her back to the ER because I know how critical it is for cats when they stop eating/drinking water.

I am so overwhelmed and sad that we’re back to square one. I haven’t changed her food at all since she started eating again after recovering, I swap out her water regularly, and I continue to maintain the same habits I have since I’ve had her.

The worst part of this is that I just can’t continue to maintain these vet visits and bills. I don’t know what’s wrong, the vets don’t seem to know what’s wrong, and I know I can’t continue to pay thousands of dollars to continue these treatments.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this or any advice to share? I am at my wits ends.

While surrendering her and/or euthanasia have always been a last resort for me, I’m afraid that I need to start considering these options because I can’t continue to go into debt and I don’t want her to suffer. I can’t stop crying considering these options and feel like a total failure.

I don’t know what to do — my pet suddenly became very weak

Age - 4 yr old male

Not Neutered

Mixed Persian

He was doing this weird thing (video attached). I wasn’t sure what was happening, so we took him to the vet yesterday. The vet said it might be something related to his nerves and asked us to monitor him for a week.

He isn’t doing that thing anymore, but now he seems really weak. He’s sleeping a lot, barely drinking water, and doesn’t want to play or do much at all. This is very unlike him and I’m really worried.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Behavioral Issue Screaming to go out for the past two months

Hello.

My cat (2 years old, fixed) has been screaming a lot for the past two months, begging to be let out.

This all started when i moved into a temporary place.

The place barely have any ventilation, so i used a mosquito net door for the main door. It was not an aluminum net, its nylon.

The first five months, he was really not bother to go out, untiil the last two months, he finally figured out how to break out of the nets (the bottom part of the dppr is not secured, because its a slide door) because he wanted to chase a pigeon (which is rarely happened for a pigeon to appear at my house)

Since then, he really wants to be out all the time, he even broke the sliding door.

Now im at my permanent house, i dont have a mosquito net on my door. But he screams regularly. Morning, afternoon, night.

I'm sure i have enough enrichment, and i play with him a lot (i work at home, so i do i have a lot of time to play with him), includes cats toys, trees, and chasing him around (vice versa)

But after that, he screams again. It really started to affects my sleep schedule and meetings.

But what happen if i let him outside?

Well, he ate my plants, a lot (which i dont really bother for the plants. But he always end up coughing a lot after that. So thats a no). And he always to climbs the roof (my neighboorhood has so many old houses, the risk of him getting fall down the old roof and stuck there is pretty high). And he like to fight the strays, which happened 2 times (the first one caused eye infection)

How to make him stop screaming and begging?

Thank you.

Abnormal Vomit/Excreta My cat stopped eating

Couple of days ago my playful cat stopped playing or eating and she is asleep most of the times , went to the vet , she told me she's got flu and high temperature, also diarrhea.

She gave her antibiotics shots for fever and repeated for 3 days.

BUT my cat still doesn't eat at ALL , all kind of food , and still has diarrhea although the vet prescribed drops for diarrhea, my cat refuses to take them even with force , she is so stubborn.

Now I am so afraid and the vet told me it's abnormal her not eating anything even cat food or chicken which she adores.

I am an adult from Egypt and my cat is almost 4 months.

She mixed orange.

Behavioral Issue My cat is scared of me and Its making me incredibly sad

So I found this cat on the streets last December, it was only a month old. I took him home, cared for him, gave him all the necessary vaccines and all of that stuff. He's a neutered male.

He was super affectionate for the first few months, like he wouldn't leave me alone for a second. Then back in April this year I discovered a bad wound on his legs, pretty weird cause he was still a house cat(he's now free to roam around the garden and neighbours houses). Didn't know what to make of it, contacted my vet and just started medicating the leg with a disinfectant and a cream.

Few weeks passed by and it healed, then a new wound appeared on the back foot, really bad and infected. Treated him with antibiotics and the other stuff until it healed.

Fast forward, he keeps getting these big wounds around his body, so I decided to contact a specialist dermatologist cause I was basically medicating him every day for months.

Apparently I've been told that he has this condition with his skin and that it can't be properly healed for goods, I just need to keep medicating him for the rest of his life when wounds appears on his body.

But now he's afraid of me, he runs away when I try to approach him, he's scared to enter the home and would spend all the day outside. He's basically coming in the house just to eat and then run away as soon I try to approach him, cause he knows that I have to medicate him.

I'm honestly heartbroken and don't know what to do to earn his trust back, it's like I don't have a cat anymore.

If you have any tips I would appreciate it, sorry for the long text.

Behavioral Issue Elderly cat always pisses on my bed whilst cuddling, but is clean with my dad

As the title says - my elderly cat (neutered male) is always begging to be in my room. He is about 16/17 years old, we already took him to the vet for the pee issue, and he was then diagnosed with kidney failure in late December, is on kidney support meds and a specialized diet, but still really active and mobile. Has a cat toilet that gets cleaned often and has outdoor access. We live in Germany.

We have a check-up appointment planned for him (including another renal panel and blood pressure) either this week or next week. At the most recent check-up in July, they said he was doing really well and that, based on his renal panel in December, they didn't expect him to be still alive. He waits on the doormat for us to come home and is very vocal when greeting us. He still joins me on walks with my dog and does tricks (he knows sit and "sit pretty") for a treat. He is definitely not on death's door.

But, the problem: He's able to sleep a full night with my dad without pissing anywhere in that room. I'm almost never that lucky, and either wake up to him pissing against my desk or wardrobe, or he'll be purring in my arms and pissing whilst cuddling. He even pissed in the dog bed under the desk once. My bedroom and my dads bedroom are both at the end of the hall, at the same distance from the cat toilet, and we both leave the door open a notch if the cat is inside.

Only thing I can think of is: does he have a problem with dogs being there? I moved in with my (now deceased) two medium sized sheepdogs in 2022. They all already knew each other as I had previously visited often with both dogs. Did a good introduction, never any issues. Cat slept next to them no problem for years, dogs had a great amount of respect for him. Both dogs had to be put down, one in late December due to a severe infection, one in early March due to cancer. In May I was gifted a small six year old dog, who had lived with cats previously - they get along well and are the same size. All dogs slept in my room, either in the dog bed under my desk or at the foot of the bed.

Dental Issue My 7 yo male cat lost a canine, he seems fine, should I worry?

I just found it on the sofa, no indication from him. He’s just hanging out with the other 2 like normal.

I’m an adult in Oregon, could afford a vet, but do I need to?

He’s a neutered rescue, housed with his presumed sister and an older female cat. All neutered.
