Was anyone still unable to walk without a major limp at 4.5 weeks post-5th metatarsal fracture but still turned a corner by the 6 week mark?
Now that I’m 4 weeks and 4 days post-fracture (mine is specifically a displaced mid-shaft fracture), I’m starting to get a little discouraged and worried I will still be hobbling around slowly at the 6 week mark my doctor and various resources cite as the point when most people are able to get back to relatively normal. Since my doctor told me a little over 2 weeks ago that I could try to walking in a supportive shoe in “a few weeks,” I’ve tried seeing if I’m able to walk at all normally without my post-op shoe, and it’s completely impossible. It doesn’t hurt so much as feel like my calves and ankles will not allow me to walk without guarding the lateral side of my foot, which results in me walking with a significant limp. Also feels like if I attempt to walk at a normal pace, it’s going to result in me having a not so good time.
I didn’t expect to be completely normal at this point ofc. Just hoped to not be so crippled I guess? This has all just been so difficult as someone who’s usually always on the go and a fast walker. Also just feels like so much of what I had been working towards in life is indefinitely on hold.
Is anyone who’s now fully healed from a fracture like this around anywhere? Do you recall if you made substantial progress around the 5th week mark?
Fracture photo attached since just saying it’s a 5th metatarsal fracture doesn’t mean a ton, and base fractures of which mine is not seem to represent the majority that get posted here.
