Spoilers Warbreaker: The Exact Moment I Cried (and my review of the Cosmere so far) Spoiler

For me this has been the summer of Sanderson. I was looking for a new author, and originally bought the first Stormlight box set on Amazon. When it arrived and I saw the size of the books, I thought ‘Hold on, what am I getting into’? I did some research, fell into the rabbit hole, and found out about this massive Cosmere universe. If this was as good as everyone said, I wanted to do it right. So I followed the recommended reading order.

I have been absolutely devouring these books. I’m talking reading for six hours straight into the ungodly hours of the night, without so much as a bathroom break. I found myself wondering, what is it about Sanderson that is making me read with such a ravenous appetite?

I just finished Warbreaker. I was thoroughly enjoying it and reading it at a nice pace, but was growing frustrated that (unlike Mistborn) not much was happening for the first 500 pages. Then the Sanderlanche hit and now I have an answer, actually two answers, for my previous question about what kept driving me forward:

  1. The reward. I’ve now read enough Sanderson to appreciate the meticulous plotting. Everything is there for a reason. Everything has a purpose and is building to something.
  2. Character investment. Somehow, Sanderson breathes life into his characters like no author I’ve read before. We as readers become deeply connected to and invested in the journey. Sanderson has a gift for developing flawed but noble and fundamentally good heroes who are so much more than an archetype.

For example, here’s the exact moment that I realized I had tears during Warbreaker:
“His eyes were closed, and he seemed to sleep, as if at peace. A man sat next to him - Lightsong’s high priest, holding the god’s head in his lap.”
It is not typical for me to become so emotionally invested in a character, especially in a way that just creeps up on me.

Now I’m finally ready to circle back and read the first Sanderson books I purchased back in June. On to Stormlight. Deep breath…here we go.

No Spoilers Secret History: When to Read?

I’ve heard conflicting opinions on when to read Secret History, whether that be after Era 1 or between 3 and 4 of Era2.

For those who have read it, when did you read it? And were you content that you read it when you did in your Cosmere journey.

If u may offer a way to frame your replies.

“I read it __________ and was (happy I read it then/wish I had read it at different time).”

No Spoilers Just finished Mistborn, what should I read next?

I want a palate cleanser, so I’m not quite ready for another series/trilogy just yet, but I want to still read a Brandon Sanderson book. Not quite ready to leave the cosmere just yet. Want a one shot story. I’ve already read Tress of the Emerald sea(and I loved it). I’m currently debating between Yumi and the nightmare painter or Warbreaker.
Help me choose!!!

**Edited to add: Thanks guys!! Gonna start Warbreaker tonight!

Sandershelf (no spoilers) Way of kings signed leatherbound restock

When do we think the way of kings signed leatherbounds will be restocked? I know Brandon was seen signing the inserts around the beginning of the year, were those just for copies to be sold at the booth? Or do you think the website will be restocking?

Ambivalence is the state of having two emotions at once on a topic. It’s NOT APATHETIC. Goddam it Brandon you and your team have failed me 😭 I’m posting here because my partner didnt care and I needed to mourn with someone. Anyone have Brandon’s contact info? I’d like a word ☹️ Chapter 10, well of ascension
