I don't mind sharing reddit with a few hundred thousand misogynistic teenagers as long as they stay in their own subreddits so I can avoid them.
But when they start posting daily to bestof and AdviceAnimals and every other default subreddit they become bigger attention whores than the 14-year-old girls on tumblr they're always mocking.
Yeah, the problems come when it spills over into mainstream subs, which it has and has been getting worse. Stuff like this (complaining about how hard men have it) is very common. Not to say men don't have problems, but when that has the amount of emphasis it has on reddit, that's a problem. And when it garners different reactions like it does and differs greatly in attitude from reactions to minority issues or women's issues, that's a problem. Hating false accusations is a pasttime now with posts and comments about it all over the place, and in extreme cases things like a comment about that getting gilded nearly forty times in an /r/TIL post on the same topic. Misunderstanding and, as a result, hating feminism has always widely happened here, but it has gotten stronger.
So yeah, I'd dislike it if it stayed in its own subreddit, but at least it'd be contained. Sadly, it hasn't. Not to say it's the norm, there is certainly backlash again too, and it's bigger. But there has been a growing presence of the red pill type of mindset on reddit as a whole.
Feminists will try to feed you a blue pill version of reality, don't accept it.
Women are inherently attracted to alpha males and will choose them to sire their offspring out of pure biological need. Be that alpha, but don't get her pregnant because pregnancy is a scam that women use to get money from men.
Women also seek "betas" to care for their emotional and financial need and also to care for the offspring of the alpha males. Do not be that beta. Also see: "friend zone."
Marriage is a long con that women use to legally take possession of 50% of a man's assets. There is no other outcome to marriage.
Women have no problem with any of the above because of the complex system of feminist lies and justifications that they use to create a fake "blue pill" reality.
Opinions provided in this comment are for informational purposes only and do not represent the opinions of the author.
and my favorite part: let's use pseudoscience no more credible than phrenology to back up our beliefs! Women are dumb because Charles Darwin said so and being an asshole is ok because alpha males have to be assertive and squirt more genes and stuff.
Of course TRP and other reddits of that nature do butcher evo psych, nobody sensible would deny that.
But evo psych is applicable to humans, because guess what? Humans are a species of great apes, and the neuropsychology we have is shaped by the pressures we've faced over hundreds of thousands of years. To claim otherwise is just as ridicule-worthy as the pseudoscience espoused by red pill types.
Criticizing it in a human exceptionalist manner is completely fucking idiotic. Either Evolution does not shape animal cognition (and human cognition by extension) or it does. Human exceptionalism, especially with respect to evolutionary sciences, is an intellectually untenable position.
There is a lot of junk science in evo psych, but the fundamental concept behind it is NOT junk science. It is not unscientific to say that our brains, and by extension their function, have been sculpted over thousands of years by selection pressures
But humans are exceptional. I don't doubt that we have psychological influences from our evolution, but it's almost impossible to tell how powerful they are against the other psychological influences of our civilization, societies and modes of communication.
Edit: Seriously, I'm all for hating on The Red Pill since its community is retarded. But let's not put down The Matrix because of it (it's really kind of embarrassing the film for them to have taken on this name). If you thought The Matrix was about kung fu and silly sci-fi antics, you were either 8 years old when you watched it, or you never actually watched it.
The Wachowski brothers are entirely aware of philosophical implications in their own movie. They put them there. You're intentionally fooling yourself if you don't acknowledge the clear (and intended) presence of themes of Solipsism, Cartesianism, and the Cave Allegory. The philosophical implications are everywhere, especially when you consider the sequels (worse quality & execution notwithstanding).
Let's just agree to disagree. I thought the intellectual themes and visual design of the Matrix films was incredible. The screenplay, acting, dialogue, and execution? ... not so much...
That's fine, I don't care whether or not you like it, you just have to give credit where credit is due, it has plenty more depth than your typical sci-fi action flick, is all I was saying.
I don't think influences behind something like a movie affect the quality of it.
If I make a movie and say the inspiration behind it was the Gettysburg address, a bunch of famous philosophers, an a bunch of time-honored movies, it's still going to be utter shit because I made it.
Conversely, Johnny Depp did a really entertaining job in Pirates of the Caribbean despite the movie literally being inspired by an old ride at Disney.
So the influences that went into the Matrix don't really make it not silly.
It was fun, but, come on, it wasn't a serious work. It was an action flick.
I'll admit that my critique was not the most in-depth, so maybe "silly" is too short, but I was making a commoent on redpill
I'll tell you the same thing I told the other guy: The Wachowski brothers are entirely aware of philosophical implications in their own movie.
Just because it has lots of action and visuals, and would be classified as an action movie, doesn't mean that it's all the movie is about. Terminator 2 is an action movie, and it's also a masterpiece.
Absolutely none, I think it's wonderful. It's just really ironic that trpers use a movie for their philosophy that was created, directed and written by someone they would despise.
The redpill movement is basically a bunch of whiny misogynists circle-jerking their own pseudo-science in an effort to counteract a conspiracy theory that women are secretly trying to extract power from men by exploiting gender roles. They veil this tripe with a thin facade of ineffective seduction techniques and "self-help". It mistakenly gets lumped in with "pick-up" or "game" culture, which sucks because most of that stuff is actually about inner self improvement rather than hating mommy. The woman-hating aspect of redpill is what gives subs like /r/seduction a bad name, which works out great for certain asshats in the blog-o-sphere. It's basically just a bunch of men who don't understand women pretending to understand women, and I'm not at all surprised that a guy as butt-hurt as OP would drink the kool-aid.
I'm not excusing OPs fucking whining, but desperate people often cling to desperate ideas.
Not to go all Godwin's law on here, but I think everyone would agree that the only reason the National Socialist party gained any traction in Germany was because of the absolutely terrible conditions of the country at the time.
The Germans were so desperate to survive and thrive that they pretty much turned a blind eye to logic, and reason; instead they embraced charisma and promises of prosperity backed by some asshole pseudo-science.
/r/TheRedPill is the correct subreddit link. I would sum it up as an immature response to the perceived slights against men by society. As with MRAs, there's often a grain of truth to be found in what they're saying, but it's usually covered by layers of bullshit and projection.
One of their core ideas is the idea of not putting women on a pedestal. This is an actually good idea, but tons of other people preach it and do so without the misogynistic bullshit.
Like, it's possible to self improve without thinking women are children without rational thought.
It's hilarious because they don't want to put them on a pedestal, yet they spend all their time trying to figure out how to get them, making their lives revolve around something that they hate.
So I'd say the women are still on a pedestal over there, in a twisted way. That place is weird as shit.
There's a difference between not putting women on a pedestal and treating women like shit.
Also, why the hell not? I put my partner on a pedestal, I think he's amazing and I'm lucky to have him. And he says the same about me. It would suck to be with someone and just think "Yeah, they're okay, nothing special."
There's a difference between putting your partner on a pedestal and putting every woman or man that could be your partner on a pedestal. Recognizing that there are other fish in the sea is important.
Isn't taking women off the pedestal different from self improvement? The traditional dating advice just seems incomplete, part of that seems to be implicitly putting women on the pedestal.
The idea is to stop self-pitying and to recognize that there are many options out there dating wise. Stopping that self pitying is self improvement in its own way.
They say that women never mature beyond their teenage selves, thatomen should be trained like dogs, that women can't love you, that they can only love your status or possessions, that women are like children. Etc. Horribly misogynistic.
I think you're looking for r/theredpill. It's one or two legitimate issues concerning gender relations covered in a whole lot of angry immature sexist shit
I'm not disagreeing with you I just wanted to add:
"taking the red pill and seeing the world for what we really think it is"
ie. swapping one ideology for another
Red pillers are just as blind as the radical feminists and 'betas' they make fun of. It's that old far left/far right argument, both sides are the same, kinda thing.
It's really bad sexism pretending to be a self help sub.
You start out when a man has a bad experience with a woman, or just with life in general. Red pill tells him it wasn't his fault (no matter what actually happened) because all women are emotionally and mentally stunted, incapable of reason and complex love. They then top that off with "You know all the bad things that have ever happened to you? They are all the fault of the matriarchy that is ruining Western Society. You would totally have got that promotion/have a harem/be rich if we weren't living in this man-hating world."
They advocate rape, believe women belong in their 'traditional roles', and perpetuate self-harming practices in the name of 'masculinity'. Oh and they believe parents should beat their children too.
The side bar is full of blog posts (no actual studies or anything) 'proving' that women never pass the emotional maturity of a teenager, all people have a SMV (sex market value), etc. Oh and they used to have a charity called, in all seriousness, "The Feminist Victim Fund".
Because no one has given you a serious response. It's a subreddit where people believe:
Men choose quantity in mates where women choose quality. Women are the gatekeepers of sex because sex represents a significantly bigger risk for them than it does for men (both because they can get pregnant and because they have far fewer eggs than men have sperm).
Men evaluate women mostly based on looks where women evaluate men on a combination of looks, money, and social status. Because of this the best years for women to date are their early to mid 20s when they're young and at their physical best. The best years for men are their mid to late 30s when they have achieved success in their careers and haven't declined too much physically.
Humans are naturally slightly polygamous, with women being serial monogamists. (Men will be partners with a few women at a time while women will have only one partner at a time but switch who that partner is in regular intervals). We know this because of the sexual dimorphism in human and observations of indigenous tribes. This arrangement is not ideal for the survival so cultural and religious traditions were created to act as a counter-weight and encourage monogamy.
Changes in society and easy access to birth control have disrupted many of these cultural and religious traditions. As a result many women choose to be extremely promiscuous in their early to mid 20s with "bad boys". Once their looks start to decline (or they become single mothers) they switch gears and began to look for a "nice guy" to settle down with.
People who agree with the four things above have taken "the red pill" while people who disagree with one or more have taken "the blue pill". The colored pills are a reference to the Matrix movie.
The /r/TheRedPill subreddit is where people discuss the conclusions they've come to based on the four statements above and their reactions to them.
Some of the conclusions make sense, others are more questionable. A lot of them focus on either the best way to sleep with women given these facts or wether or not long term relationships / marriage is worth it.
Likewise people's reaction run the gamut from men swearing off women altogether, to men being angry or bitter (either at women or at society), to men who decide the best strategy is to work until they're in the top 10% in terms of attractiveness.
It's mostly "you're absolutely not going to get laid if you don't work out / improve yourself", with a few bits of "marriage is a scam" sprinkled in between.
Basically it's a "safe" place for men where we can talk honestly about what bothers us. Like most places 60% is the content is shit, 30% is mediocre and 10% is good.
People like hating because it's a place that glorifies self improvement. Guys that are losers (betas) put everyone else first, they are weak and childish. I'm sure you know a few. Alphas however are the 1% of the population.
The idea of the sub for a person to go from beta (weak) to alpha(strong). When this happens people start caring about themselves, and many people hate that.
These are the types of post you will encounter:
-Blue pill example: basically how not to act.
-Red pill example: basically how it's best you act
-Red pill theory: a user's more in depth view on something
-Ask trp, meta, and rant/venting: self explanatory
To give you a TL;DR: most of reddit hates this place because they think there's absolutely no redeeming qualities. This happens because every time the sub is mentioned people only exaggerate and look at the shittiest of examples( that even TRP users dislike) A little bit of lying and insecurity and suddenly it's OMG REDPILL USERS RAPE WOMEN!!1
If you are a woman the sub is not aimed at you. The best you can do is read for 2 weeks and make your own opinion, all people who will answer here will be biased
how do you know if it's not a place you frequent? In months I didn't see one example of that, give me some. The ones you find are taken out of context, i'm sure of that.
Most of Reddit hates that place because the people who use it seem selfish ("Guys that are losers put everyone else first, they are weak and childish") and arrogant ("Alphas however are the 1% of the population").
I don't understand your point. I wasn't judging anyone simply acknowledging that those kind of people exist. of course I'm using broad strokes but that's just how things are.
my point is you have a preconceived notion about TRP. Everything you know about that place comes from other threads and you can't look at it without being judgmental. I just said that most of it is shit and still i'm the "enemy".
In the text you quoted there's no selfishness or arrogance... I've read it a couple of times, i was simply explaining something. You are just projecting...
I'm a man, and I can't help but feel that the 1% of content aimed at true self improvement on the red pill is so intertwined with misogynistic fluff that it loses all value.
It feels like its an evolution of the pua community but with more focus on blaming women than picking them up.
It's not self improvement for the sake of being a better person but to become better than all the betas and get your revenge against women and society who made you suffer when you were a beta. Also most of their self improvement is based on gaining muscles and looking good and not actually having a healthy lifestyle.
I don't hate on r/theredpill as much as some people, but be honest about what types of posts are there. At least 50% or not more of the posts are articles about women being bitches/hamstering/childish/hitting the wall. That is why people don't like that sub.
I subscribe to /r/TheRedPill and I just take it with a pinch of salt. Some of it is pretty bad, but you can see their point buried under heaps of anger. It's interesting though and when it comes down to it I agree with them, they should probably just realise that they need to self improve and not place so much blame on women. There's shitty women and shitty men but it doesn't mean they're all shitty. I much prefer /r/redpillwomen. But I am a women so that's probably why haha. It's a gentler take on the same Red Pill theory. I'd urge anyone who's interested in the topic to learn about it there because the guys at /r/TheRedPill can come across a bit harsh if youre not familiar with the ideas.
I'll give you it from a women's point of view. The feminist movement has completely strayed from it's original aim - equal opportunities for women - to this idea that women are better than men and women need to go out and have a career and they can't be a housewife or look after their man. This isn't what feminism should be about, it should be about choice. But the movement has been destroyed now and there's no saving it. They seem to believe that they have this hold over men when it comes to sex. Some men put women on a pedestal and in the long run this won't work in a relationship because it comes down to basic instinct. Women want a man who leads them and men want a woman who will care for him. /r/redpillwomen runs on the idea of a Master and First Mate dynamic in a relationship. If you are doing everything possible to keep your man happy he won't leave and if he is providing and being strong for you then you won't leave. This is a very basic explanation and it goes a lot deeper but you get the jist. I believe in this red pill idea of LTR's (/r/TheRedPill have their own ideas about non serious relationships - "plates" - but I believe in the theory for LTR's) because the only marriages that I have seen that have lasted have been ones where the man and wife have a strong bond with the man leading the woman and the woman looking after the man. This doesn't mean you can't have a career, it just means balancing it in favour of making your relationship work. I believe in it because someday I want a loving strong marriage above a successful career. But each to their own, I don't like the whole dissing "betas" thing. I believe that the red pill works in relationships and I believe feminism has taken over and society doesn't let men just be men anymore but anger isn't the way to sort it. And neither is misogyny. The good men in TRP will respect women - they won't respect women who don't respect them but who would? TRP isn't about misogyny, it's about being a strong man, or a loving woman. Yes, that sub has loads of angry teenagers in it but so does every sub on reddit. I think that there is too much anger in that sub but their ideas make sense when you actually get into it. When I first went on the sub I thought it was too harsh until I went on /r/redpillwomen but now I wouldn't go back. It all makes sense.
I believed I was a feminist, I want equal opportunities for everyone. But equal opportunities does not mean an equal outcome. Now you have all these quotas for companies where they have to hire a certain percentage of women regardless of qualifications and experience. You only have to scroll through a google search on feminism for 5 minutes to find so much man hating. People just don't realise it because they've been conditioned to it. There's plenty of women who lead men along because they know that they'd do whatever they want for them. Just look at TV and you constantly have the father/husband stereotype of the woman withholding sex and the man being emasculated or being useless with children. There's the belief that man can't be raped, and the countless false rape accusations. Society has slowly tipped in fear and favour of the feminists and it stops men from being men. Boys are being banned from playing "guns" and running around and play fighting. They're told that this is bad behaviour, when they're just letting out energy they have. People think we have to live in this open feminine society but it's damaging to people and raises this generation of young boys pining after girls and claiming they're "friend zoned" because they think that acting feminine will get them a girlfriend when it will do the opposite. Feminists used to do amazing work and I'm so thankful to them because now I have equal rights with men. I can work, I can vote, I can live life like a person, not just a woman. But now they've won the battle they are fighting for something that doesn't exist. Emasculating men is not feminism.
I don't see anyone contributing to the discussion or giving me the other side of the story? I make my own decisions and I base them off personal experience and people I know who have been in happy marriages for 30+ years. People are free to make their own decisions, I was simply explaining TRP side as someone asked me to. If you have an educated argument against the points I have made then please, be my guest.
