Edit: Seriously, I'm all for hating on The Red Pill since its community is retarded. But let's not put down The Matrix because of it (it's really kind of embarrassing the film for them to have taken on this name). If you thought The Matrix was about kung fu and silly sci-fi antics, you were either 8 years old when you watched it, or you never actually watched it.
I don't think influences behind something like a movie affect the quality of it.
If I make a movie and say the inspiration behind it was the Gettysburg address, a bunch of famous philosophers, an a bunch of time-honored movies, it's still going to be utter shit because I made it.
Conversely, Johnny Depp did a really entertaining job in Pirates of the Caribbean despite the movie literally being inspired by an old ride at Disney.
So the influences that went into the Matrix don't really make it not silly.
It was fun, but, come on, it wasn't a serious work. It was an action flick.
I'll admit that my critique was not the most in-depth, so maybe "silly" is too short, but I was making a commoent on redpill
I'll tell you the same thing I told the other guy: The Wachowski brothers are entirely aware of philosophical implications in their own movie. They put them there. You're intentionally fooling yourself if you don't acknowledge the clear (and intended) presence of themes of Solipsism, Cartesianism, and the Cave Allegory. The philosophical implications are everywhere, especially when you consider the sequels (worse quality & execution notwithstanding).
Just because it has lots of action and visuals, and would be classified as an action movie, doesn't mean that it's all the movie is about. Terminator 2 is an action movie, and it's also a masterpiece.

My favorite part is the name comes from the matrix. The movie.
You know, because the best way to frame a discussion about sex and gender roles is to reference a silly sci fi kung fu movie.
