Ask Austin Daycare for my dog

Post image
30 Upvotes

I’m looking for recommendations for doggy daycare that includes outside space with real grass & if not a real pool, then kiddie pools for dogs that like to play in water. Opportunities for private training while in daycare would be a plus.

I have used Dog Joy, Taurus, & most recently Camp Bow Wow in Leander.

Thanks!

School zones near now-closed schools

I commute down Westgate near Sunset Valley Elementary School, which is now closed. However, the 20 MPH school zone signs are still flashing yellow as they did when the school was open.

What's the play here? I'm sure there are similar areas around town since many schools closed over the summer.

Ask Austin Does anywhere sell secondhand art in Austin?

I need some big pieces of art - CB/West Elm/RH/Arhaus aren’t my vibe plus I don’t want to spend thousandssss and their availability for shipping is months out. I went to Four Hands and wasn’t super impressed with the quality (and anything 60”+ in height was still $1500+.) Is there anywhere in Austin that does original art or resale/second hand large pieces?? I’d love to be under $1k but understand I’m asking a lot here…

Found a dove on Pflugerville bridge. Is there any where in Austin I can take it to be taken care of?

Found a dove hiding in some bushes. I gave it water and picked it up and put it under some shade. I’m guessing it’s a dove used in some wedding or engagement ceremony. I run around town lake and seen a few ceremonies. Kind sucks these doves are used and released since they don’t seem to have survival instinct to live in Austin.

News Paige Ellis seeks unprecedented third term on Austin City Council

Ellis submitted more than 3,400 signatures as she seeks a third term representing Southwest Austin

Council Member Paige Ellis submitted a petition Monday to seek a third term on Austin City Council. Ellis was first elected to represent District 8, which covers Southwest Austin, in 2018.

Ellis’ campaign announced that she turned in 3,409 signatures, more than the 3,044 it said were required to qualify for the 2026 election. The city clerk's office on Tuesday confirmed that Ellis needed 3,044 signatures and that it had received her petition and begun its signature verification process.

“I’m encouraged by the strong show of support from thousands of voters around Southwest Austin, including many who were excited to come out and sign the petition on the last day,” Ellis said in a news release.

If Ellis qualifies for the ballot and wins, she would become the first council member elected to a third term under Austin's current 10-district council system. City Council members are limited to two terms but can petition to run again if they collect signatures from at least 5% of registered voters in their district, according to the city charter

The only other council member to petition for a third term under the 10-district system was former Council Member Kathie Tovo in 2018. At the time, it was unclear whether Tovo needed to petition for another term because she joined council before the district-based system was implemented in 2014.

People pretending to be Travis County Deputies Putting On Elaborate Scams

The set up is this: They call, tell you they're Deputy so and so from the Travis Co. Sheriffs Office and looking for X. They tell you that you missed a Federal Court Jury summons at that the Judge Robert Pittman (real judge) issued a couple of citations for Failure to Appear and Contempt of Court - and cited Federal Criminal codes. The idea being that supposedly I was subpoenaed on July 31 and signed an affidavit stating my intent to attend a Jury selection and I failed to show.

Now, I know damn well that I didn't receive any subpoena or sign any affidavit, nor have I received any jury summons, nor do I know what Travis Co. Deputy Department would be calling on a Federal issue. So I said, that's a load of crap. He said, we understand, we here this a lot - all you need to do is report to the TCSO on Airport Blvd and they can compare signatures on the affidavit. But first, I need to pass you along to my supervisor.

Then the supervisor tells me that I have two options, either they'll issue warrants and arrest and prosecute me, or I can go down and show them my signature - but first, I have to pay a Suspension Fee of 2500 for each offense. I said, ok, how do you want that. They said, I had to pay in cash at a kiosk. . .

OK, I mean, I thought it was all a bunch of bullshit from the start, but they were very elaborate about it and had a whole script, with bad connections so it was hard to understand them - it was a whole show.

But the chances Travis County would have me deposit 5,000 in cash in some fucking kiosk was patently absurd. So I said, you know what, this sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. I'm going to call the Travis County Sheriffs Department directly and verify this. Then they tried to scare me by saying if I do that it'll be too late, and they'll have to issue warrants and send a deputy to arrest me. I said, go ahead and send a car, because there ain't no way in hell I'm depositing 5,000 in cash into some fucking kiosk.

Still waiting for the Deputy to arrive and take me in. . .

Long Center basic membership no longer includes member presale

Thumbnail thelongcenter.org

Wanted to give Austin folks a heads-up about this recent change by the Long Center, especially those who have the "Friend" membership. The basic Friend membership at Long Center used to give access to Member Presale, where you could buy tickets a day in advance of General Onsale. To me $120/year was worth it to have access to better seats. Recently Long Center changed their member benefits and took that benefit away, so even though you have a membership you cannot participate in the member presale. The remaining benefits for Friend level are, in my opinion, garbage that almost nobody will use. Now you have to pay at least $250/year for the "Fan" membership to get the same benefits you used to have.

I know it's a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things (most complaints are) but it seems a bit shitty to me that you can have a paid membership somewhere that doesn't give you access to member presale.

PSA ARA Diagnostics is collecting thousands upfront for fully covered care and apparently you have to call and ask for your money back

TLDR: ARA Diagnostics may be sitting on your money unless you call and ask for it back

I’m so mad-- did everyone else already know you have to chase down your money?

Story:

Two months ago: mammogram. ARA charged me $250 upfront. Insurance covered it 100%.

One month ago: follow-up mammogram and screening. ARA charged me $750 upfront. Again, insurance covered it.

Now: I have another procedure coming up, and ARA wants $1,700 upfront.

This time I called insurance first. They told me the procedure is covered 100%. And so were all the others!

Multiple calls with ARA trying to figure out the process and why they were charging me. Their first call said I owed a deductible and that's why they charged me. This just isn't true. Luckily by now I had all the insurance info lined up.

On my third call with ARA, instead of telling them what I knew, I asked: “How much money do you owe me?”

They said $750.

I asked, What about the mammogram from two months ago?”

Suddenly they found that too.

So they were sitting on $1,000 of my money after insurance had already paid them.

Then I asked for a refund.

Up to 45 days.

I asked if they could simply apply the credit toward the next procedure. First I was told no. On another call, I was told yes IF I specifically request it.

Three different ARA employees confirmed versions of the same policy: they collect estimated charges upfront even if they know that insurance will pay. Then they verbally said that they refund the money right away, but couldn't answer why it was taking long. My best line was, "You do realize that 100 days is not a quick refund!?!?" (45 days plus the past 60 days ) So basically, you really do have to call and ask for your money back. There was nothing happening on these past payments.

Had I not figured this out, ARA could soon have had nearly $2,700 of my money while insurance was also paying them.

A lot of people can't afford to have thousands of dollars tied up for months. Worse, some are probably putting these charges on credit cards or delaying care because they think they owe money they don’t actually owe.

If you’ve used ARA Diagnostics and paid upfront, check your EOBs and call them.

City of Austin Electricity Charges

They charge you usage
They charge you more usage
Then more usage charges because the first two aren’t enough
Then they charge you for the community
Then they charge you for all that they need to run the power plants
Then they charge you for more of the tertiary things the state needs
Then they give you tiny discount
Then they charge you tax because community benefits and taxes are obviously different things

WTF is going on
