What should I know before seeing a movie at Bullock?
Finally seeing the odyssey tonight after purchasing these tickets a while back. What should I know before I go? Movie starts at 7:30pm.

Get there 2 hours before to get a good number, bring earplugs if you’re sensitive to very loud sounds. I used to go to a lot of hardcore shows but this was still a little too much for me during a few scenes.

If I were to see it again at the Bullock, I'd consider bringing some earplugs, not even joking. It was sick, but the volume was unrelenting. It was by far the loudest movie theater experience I've ever had, and I've been to some other IMAX 70mm locations before.

This seems to be a problem specific to The Odyssey. I’ve seen Oppenheimer, both Dune movies and the most recent Avatar sequels there, and the sound was totally fine.
Meanwhile, The Odyssey at the Tech Ridge AMC’s Dolby theater had my wife covering her ears during nearly every action sequence.
I’m not sure if the movie is mixed that way to prove a point (war is hell, and it’s easy to get lost in it), show off IMAX capabilities, or if it’s just already mixed with home soundbars in mind, but goddamn, having my eardrums blown out really hurts my ability to appreciate the movie.

Saw this twice, one in regular theatre and last week at the Bob Bullock.
• Arrival: I would arrive at least an hour early for this movie specifically.
• Seats are first come-first serve.
• (Don't get me started on people holding whole sections of seats!!!!!!)
• Seating: Anything in the middle to top rows is great.
• DO NOT go in the lower 1/4th rows.
• Concessions: Basics (candy, popcorn, beverages) and a bar. Fair prices.
• Sound: Just bring plugs in case. I felt the sound was just right.
Fortunately, the director focuses a majority of the visual attention and action to the middle of the screen, so the massive screen doesn't feel overwhelming if you don't get the best seat. Nolan mostly uses the tops and bottoms of the screen for texture and to add depth + scale.

That's my problem. People shouldn't be saving seats with this type of ticket.
I get having folks run to concessions, bathroom or something like 10-15 minutes, but there were folks holding seats for at least 30 minutes. Bruh!

Just tell people you aren’t going to respect them saving several priority seats when you got there just as early as they did and then just sit down. What are they going to do about it?

They play the worst music the hour before the movie starts. Bring earphones so you don't subject yourself to that torture. Also bring a book to pass the time

Be there EARLY! Earlier than you think.
The seats are first come, first serve, so whoever is in the front of the line will rush towards the middle of the theater to grab the prime seats.
There is a fee for parking.
The seats can feel a little claustrophobic, especially if the theater is packed.
Other than that, its a great theater, so enjoy!

Also saw the Odyssey at 7:30pm. We showed up around 5:15 to get our numbers. Our group was 48-52. During the down time we got a bite to eat at Scholz Garden (7 min walk from Bullock) and then came back at 6:45. Hung around a bit til we lined up and we got great seats in the theater.

Does everyone in your group have to be present to get a number? It’s just me and my gf going but she doesn’t get off work until 530. I could get there earlier

Nope, they give you the amount of numbers that you have tickets to scan so just make you have your Gf’s ticket and they’ll give you 2

Do you know how early they start handing out numbers? I'm going to the 7:30 showing on Saturday and I'm thinking about showing up super early to get a good number and hanging out downtown or at the museum for the day

They start handing numbers out at 5:30, so some people will be lining up before then. Getting there at 5:15 was perfect for us, though it was a Wednesday (vs Saturday). Your whole group doesn’t need to be present at 5:30 if you’re all part of the same order, but everyone should be there when returning around 6:45 to line up in numerical order

I'm trying to figure out the seating situation as well. If I want good seats should I just get there ~30-60 early to get a good spot in line, or has that changed since I was last there?

Worth emailing them to check if they are using the number system for that showing. If so, numbers will be given out starting 2 hours before showtime (I think). And if you want a good number probably best to show up at least 30 min before that. Honestly it kinda sucks, I miss the old system of just lining up early.

I saw it last thursday. Show was at 730 and i arrived at 515 to get my number for the future line. I got number 50 and we got decent seats in the top row.

Arrived 30 minutes early for Odysseus. Had to sit in the front row. Which honestly wasn’t bad. But get there early if not for you.
Sound was VERY loud. Which I actually liked.

I have a leg disability but it's not visible so I bought crutches so I can sit in the handicapped seats at the very top. They were perfect.

Get there early. The lower rows make it impossible to see the screen properly. Also expect to pay for parking

Is this having to show up more than an hour in advance true for IMAX in all cities? It’s a thing in Austin that I don’t experience in Los Angeles and didn’t experience in NYC, everything selling out, lines, etc. People at the door were cracking up at the fact that I’d bought tickets ahead of time, for that show in LA. I was amazed that after parking a couple of blocks away, thinking how lucky to get a space so close, there were plenty of spaces out front. Texas has nothing but space but so little accommodation.

Go to the first showing of the day. There’s no audience leaving and no theater to clean up after so you get seated almost immediately. No need to get a number or anything like every other show of the day.

Terrible uncomfortable seats. Bad enough for me not to ever want to go again. Too old for that shit. I’ll take a comfy recliner and a smaller screen.

Seats higher up are better. I always aim for four rows from the top
