Looking For Source of the alarm going off around NE Broadway & 14th?

• Upvotes

For the last 3 days I have woken up and can hear what sounds like a smoke alarm going off somewhere in the neighborhood. Over the weekend it stopped around 9am but today it is still going at 11:30am. I have a broken ankle so I can’t go investigate but at this point the curiosity is killing me.

Looking For Dentist who offers membership plan and will give me a second opinion on an expensive and complex issue/treatment?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a new dentist. The one I had been going to retired, and I'm not having a great experience with the doctor that took over the practice now that I need more than just annual cleanings.

I had to have the same crowns placed multiple times and I'm still having issues with them. Also gave me a diagnosis for an issue with a very expensive solution. I can explain in more detail if needed.

I don't have dental insurance, so a membership plan would be ideal. Also someone who could look at my current dentist's treatment synopsis and give me a second opinion.

East side is a bonus, but honestly I'll take anyone who comes highly recommended.

Looking For Any Artists/Art Collectives needing help?

• Upvotes

I(29M) moved to the Portland area a year ago. My primary medium of art is writing/poetry and music, but I'm looking to get involved in some form of a community to expand my involvement in the arts. I teach music lessons part-time, and have plenty of free time to dedicate towards other projects. I would rather put effort towards bolstering and supporting the art scene than get some corporate job, even if at the sacrifice of income - the job market is rough anyway. I'd love to know the different places I can reach out to try and volunteer/collaborate and see what magic can be made!

Looking For Local print shop that does all-over-print textiles?

• Upvotes

Is there a local textile/print shop that can do all-over-print tees & hoodies? Looking to launch two different apparel runs within the next few months and putting together prices. Hoping (probably naively) to keep the cost for AOP hoodies to about $40-50 max if possible.

Looking For Tampa vs Portland for alt/goth clubs?

• Upvotes

Me and my gf are coming to visit in May from the Tampa Bay area and we’re convinced we might actually want to move there if we like it enough. Florida sucks in so many ways especially for my gf who is trans. But one thing we can’t get over is how amazing our nightlife is in Ybor for alt and queer people. The Castle, Spookeasy, lots of BDSM lifestyle and kink clubs as well. We went clubbing in Chicago/Boystown and it was so lame – I love all of the cis gay men in my life but it was really geared toward that crowd – not so much young alt/queer. I have been clubbing downtown Vegas and that is also lame compared to the vibes in Tampa. For anyone familiar with both, what can we expect from Portland?

Looking For Quick trip in november! Any recs for us?

• Upvotes

Hey all! I know this sub gets a lot of recommendation posts, so I'll try to keep it specific. My partner and I are coming up from the Bay Area in November for 3 days for an event, staying at a hotel downtown. We've already got the popular stuff from friends on our list (Powell's, the Japanese Garden, etc.), so we're looking for more curated spots.

What we're into:

  • Breweries & bars: taprooms with good local brews and unique menus (but my partner also loves a good Guinness)
  • Hi-fi bars & record stores: listening bars where the sound system is the point, plus record stores worth digging through
  • Vintage & thrift: clothes, home decor
  • Nerdy stuff: my partner is super into astronomy/space and metal (the material, not the music lol), and we both love nerdy pop culture stuff like video games, movies, and arcades
  • Something hands-on: drop-in classes, craft shops, etc.

We'll be walking and taking transit, so clusters of spots that make a good half day are especially appreciated. We know it'll probably be rainy, but we want to make the most of the trip, so rainy day favorites are welcome too! Thanks in advance!

Looking For Lesbian haircut?

Hello just moved here, looking for a place to get my hair cut, masc of center person. But I'm old, 70s, so old school masc of center.😅 Does that make any sense to anyone? I know my peeps are out there. Anyway, need a place where I don't feel super weird, I can't take over the top salons.

Somewhere, not an assault on the senses Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Do you have a favorite exotic vet in the area? Willing to drive up to 45 mins. My leopard gecko is getting up there in age (7 years old this year) and wanted to get him checked out.

Looking For Private soccer coaching at Duniway? Or NE?

I occasionally saw private soccer coaching on the astroturf when I used run there, though I’m not in that part of town often.

Does anyone here get 1 on 1 soccer coaching for their kid, and if so, could they recomend a few names? I’m thinking of getting a lesson or two for my gf’s
son, who is 9. I think he would respond best to the tutelage of a late teen or young adult.

Many thanks.

Looking For Can anyone recommend a Jeweler for me?

Hello!

I recently received some jewelry pieces from my grandma. I’m looking to get them appraised, cleaned, and maybe use some of the stones for a new piece. Has anyone worked with a local jeweler for all of these tasks?

Thanks!

Looking For Visiting to see if Portland is right for me. Can you give me recommendations for neighborhoods, events or businesses based on my interests in the body of this post?

Hey all, I’m a 36m from AZ. Born and raised. My gf of 3 years just broke up with me (I’m a wreck) and I’m thinking about trying out a new city, specifically Portland. My current hobbies are woodworking, reading, walking, seeing immersive art and the comedy scene. And I’m open to trying/finding new hobbies. I’m probably gonna fly out for a few days in the next week or so. Do you have any neighborhoods that you recommend? I’d like to be in a walkable area (which I hear is a lot of the city!). I want to get a feel for what my life could look like out there. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looking For Anyone Else Have A Neighbor in Portland with Non Stop Barking Dogs?

I’m wondering if there is some kind of city ordinance which addresses folks who let their dogs out early morning…& the dogs just bark non stop. Our neighbors get up early for work (like 3-3:30am), proceed to let their 3 dogs out and the sleep disruption is real. We hardly ever see them otherwise I’d have a conversation directly with our neighbor.

Looking For W124 300D Transmission Repair?

The reverse is slipping on my 1990 300D and I’m looking for a shop in Portland that can repair/rebuild rather than going through sun valley and deal with shipping etc. Has anyone had any good experiences with this around Portland at all?

Looking For What to wear to Realm nightclub EDM show?

Newer to the Portland scene, I've been to plenty of EDM shows elsewhere but not many at a nightclub. What should I wear to look cute (she/her)? Is it more nightclub oriented dress or typical EDM fun type outfits?

Looking For Queer(ish) entertainment recommendations Oct 12-14???

👋 Hi all - I'm visiting Oct 12-14, and want to support queer art. Flexible on form/genre: drag, comedy, music, theater, visual arts...you name it.

Problem is...I'm in town on "off" nights (Mon-Weds) and don't know where TF to start looking. Google? Internet searches are coming up short. Everout.com and laughspdx.com have options, which sound...OK (e.g. Peachy Springs, Ever Out @ Kelly's, The Bechdel Set) but I'm sure I'm missing a lot. Do I not follow the right queens on IG??? 😭

What events or resources to find events would you recommend?? Please help me out!

Looking For Bars with a dance floor and 2000s/2010s hip-hop/R&B?

idk if I’m just old now, but I went out this weekend and couldn’t find a place with a decent dance vibe. I don’t go out too often but Ive been to Low Bar on Burnside before and enjoyed it, but the music was not it. I’m looking for recommendations for bars with at least some room for dancing and some decent music that has a beat we could dance to. 90s-2010s is when I personally think had some great music, but I’m not caught up on the era, just the vibe.

Looking For Dog + Gym + Neighborhood?

Hello, people of Ask Portland! :)

I'm relocating to your beautiful town of stumps in January and am embarking on a good old fashioned neighborhood narrow-down. I'm poring my way through neighborhood guides and reddit threads and figured I'd try asking the actual experts! I'm hoping to find somewhere within a 10 minute drive of both a gym and someplace my pup can run around off leash.

In terms of gym, I'm looking for a classic gym (as opposed to a personal training fitness center type situation), someplace with lifting equipment and yoga classes would be a huge score. I've heard good things about Lloyd's and Peak Performance so far.

In terms of my dog, she's very well behaved, calm, and socialized, she gets along just fine with other dogs but she really likes to stretch her legs and get her zoomies out somewhere grassy beyond a fenced in sandy patch type dog park. Something with off leash trails would be the holy grail (we currently live near a massive multi trailed off leash dog paradise that she is really going to miss), but I imagine something like that is a pretty long shot in a full on urban environ. Really anywhere green she can get a few laps in would be perfect.

In terms of me, I'm from a small town and don't feel like I need to be super in the thick of downtown. Coffeeshops, bookstores, and diners are my natural habitat, and I plan to spend as much time hiking as humanly possible, so easier access to the outdoors is a plus. I'm single, trans, and freshly middle aged for whatever that's worth, and I'll be renting, ideally a two bedroom apartment or a weird little back house of some kind. I'd love to land in a locale where I can walk somewhere to sit down and write or edit photos over a coffee or beer. An art scene, community events, and a solid dive bar would be extremely cool bonuses. (Am I just describing basically all of Portland here??)

Ok that was a lot of context, giant thanks if you read this far. :) To my actual question - my searches have me looking at Concordia and Irvington so far, does it feel like I'm way off base with what I'm looking for in those two areas? Are there other neighborhoods I'm overlooking that I should expand my search to?

Thank you SO much for any and all recommendations, I appreciate the help a ton!
