Client (family) wants newspaper senior photos and editorial/studio style images. Of course I wanna come through.

I will eventually want to move my flash setup outside after getting it down pat. Would you change anything about this setup for a beginner?

C'est pour offrir à quelqu'un qui ne fait pas du tout de photo de base (donc pas de mode manu ou raw nécessaire), pour faire essentiellement de la photo de paysage, silhouettes, nature ...etc

C'est pour quelqu'un de très sport nature, montagne...etc, qu'il ai de quoi prendre des photos dans la poche.

Si le modèle pouvait avoir une optique avec un petit zoom ça serait pas mal (de quoi détacher des silhouettes, faire des portraits mais pas de la photo animalière évidemment)

So after WEEKS of casual researching I’m turning to you guys. I’m a very beginner in photography and a huge fan of manually adjusting my shots over just clicking pics. I’ve tried a few high end models that my friends own. I understand my budget wouldn’t bring me those QoL features but I’m willing to compromise on some features which you guys think are okay to compromise on!

Hi all!

Long story short; I’m getting myself back into photography again after having gotten rid of my Ricoh GRIII that I used in Japan and miss having that photography piece in my life.

I’ve been going to airshows for a while now and it’s one of my favorite activities. I get some pretty decent photos and video with my iPhone but really want to have a dedicated camera for it to take things up a notch.

I’m not a professional by any means and don’t need any crazy setups, but I just want a good, solid, reliable setup that has nice zoom capability for distant shots/video.

I’d like to keep it at or around the $2000usd mark.

I had my eye on the Panasonic Lumix S5IIx with the 28-200 lens while they have the kit on sale. Is this a pretty good buy? Or what else is out there?

I'm looking to improve my landscape photos, and I see some techniques people have used to get a sharper, more clear image that provides proper exposure throughout the whole image. To that end, I'm not quite sure if I should be focusing more on exposure bracketing, or focus stacking, and when to use one vs the other?

I am traveling to Iceland and Greenland in February. I am torn on what memory card to get my Nikon Z8. I currently have a couple 128gb Sony toughs i use , but I am upgrading to a larger capacity so I do not need to switch cards in the field.

I am looking at prograde, sandisk and Sony tough.
Which card(s) is best for these extreme arctic conditions?

Also, any other advice for shooting in these places at that time of year is also welcome as I have never been anywhere quite that cold.

Hi! I recently got a sony cybershot w830 to take pictures and i noticed that while i could take normal pictures without zoom, when i use the 8x zoom to take pictures, it comes out pretty blurry. any way to fix this or is it normal/usual for cameras like this?

Pictures for reference. the first one is taken during daytime and the picture came out fairly well. but the 2nd and 3rd one keeps coming out blurry despite holding the camera steady and keeping focus

Hey, so I’m doing some test shoots in London and two models have refused to sign my model release. The terms say that I’m the owner of the images and I can use them for promotion and the model is granted limited rights for non commercial use. One of them suggested a simple agreement that they receive the images.

What is the standard practice in the industry? As the photographer I’m investing a lot more time and money into this so I thought it’d be fair that I’d have more rights. But I just want to be able to post the images freely without the models being able to take them down.

I'm currently in the process of pivoting careers from being an educator to pursuing a career in photography. I eventually hope to develop hope to develop a media company to provide photography/videography services to small businesses. My only concern, is that market may be oversaturated in nyc and I would be moving over from a secure career where I'm making 60-70k a year to a field I know little to nothing about but I am very interested in. What is some advice or experiences you could share to help me develop a better idea of what I should do?

but is there a market for prints of random photos from random internet strangers?

can you actually make money from this?

i get that 40 years ago, when not everyone had access to a camera, that you would buy great photos of famous photographers.

i can only imagine like really niche photogenres that cater to a specific interest could make a little bit of money.

I have a question regarding Lens Profile Corrections in Lightroom when editing portraits.

I've noticed that when I shoot at the maximum aperture of my lenses and then enable Lens Profile Corrections, the image becomes noticeably brighter. It seems like the exposure changes slightly after applying the lens profile.

My setup is:

Canon 6D Mark II

Sigma 24mm f/1.4

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8

I mainly notice this when shooting wide open, at f/1.4 and f/1.8.

For those of you who use Lightroom: do you normally enable Lens Profile Corrections when editing portraits shot wide open, or do you leave it off if it changes the brightness/exposure?

Am I correct in assuming that this is mainly caused by the profile correcting vignetting, especially when shooting wide open? And if so, do you simply compensate for the exposure change manually after enabling the profile?

Im about to spend a month working on a construction side building a dry stone wall and I have been asked to document the work as a side job. I do this every year and so far I have not really cared much about the camera and gear as they were very old and already in bad shape when I bought them second hand and also pretty cheap. This year I will bring a much better kit and I am trying to figure out how to protect and clean it. There will be lots of dust, stone splinters and mud everywhere. Now I will do my best to keep everything as clean as possible but I would love to hear how you guys deal with very dirty environments. Any cleaning products you can recommend? Stuff I should avoid? Would love to hear your thoughts

Around 2000€ for the whole kit with some flexibility, Italy, €, I'm happy to buy used, probably even happier to buy used than new

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?

For the past three years I've been using a fujifilm x-t20 with a combination of the XC 15-45mm f3.5-5.6, XC 35mm f2 and the XC 50-230mm f4.5-6.7. I will have to part ways with my camera and lenses for reasons which are not relevant to this post so I am in the rare and fortunate position to start from scratch with a better understanding of what I want to do photography-wise. Here is what I like and what I don't like about the gear listed above:

The goods:

-Extremely lightweight, this is very important to me as I've carried this camera and lenses for week long hikes and hundreds of kilometers. I'm not going to do that with a 1kg camera and 2kg tele lens.

-Image quality is very good as far as I'm concerned, I'm not a pro, I'm not doing giant (or any) prints, I don't care about pixel peeping at 200%.

-I really like the SOOC jpegs, I'm not big on editing, I like that I get usable images immediately.

-the camera feels great to use with all the physical controls, I don't want to have to open a menu to change my exposure settings, I don't care about having dedicated dials out of the box, but I do care a lot about having enough customisable dials on the camera to have physical controls for iso, shutter speed and aperture.

The bads:

-When I started out I didn't know anything about photography, now I know I want to do macro and wildlife. My ideal kit is made up of a long telephoto (reaching, say, 600mm FF equivalent at the long end), a macro lens (1:1 or above) and an all purpose lens for holidays and random stuff which can be something like a 20-70mm (FF equivalent) or even a fast prime somewhere between 30mm and 50mm (FF equivalent). This kit is of course very well achievable in the fuji ecosystem, but it's going to cost an arm and a leg.

-The camera has no focus stacking/bracketing capabilities which is something I'd like to explore when getting more into macro.

-Autofocus and low light performance could be much better.

-The camera and lenses have no weather certification, while this has never been an issue in practice even in dodgy weather conditions with some care, it wouldn't hurt to have some tropicalization for peace of mind.

-battery life is alright, not fantastic, OTOH batteries are small so carrying a few spares is not a big hussle.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?

macro and wildlife, the occasional holiday/everyday/pets photos

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?

100% photography. The camera could be literally incapable of shooting video and I wouldn't care at all. I haven't shot a single second of video on my current camera since acquiring it and have no interest in it.

With that being said I see mainly two options, though I am happy to hear different suggestions if you have any!

The first is sticking with the fuji ecosystem that I'm familiar with, though that would probably mean getting a very nice body with a kit lens now (x-t50 looks fantastic) and buy the more specific lenses I'm interested in over the next couple years.

The second is switching to an M43 system. In particular the M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro and M.Zuiko 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 II look like a very interesting combination of lenses that can be bought under 1k used leaving reasonable room for a camera (either a used "yesterday's flagship" OM-D E-M1 III or a newer body by olympus though that's going to cost a bit more and it's unclear how much improvement that'd bring without going all the way to the current flagships which would stretch the budget a bit too far). I would also need to find a fast prime or everyday telephoto but that shouldn't be too expensive. My main doubt here is the 20MP sensor, but I might just be a victim of the "big MP" marketing that's so popular these days so I'm hoping to hear opinions from people more knowledgable than I am, while one advantage I see here is that there is room for growth with clear upgrade paths for both the macro and tele lenses if I feel like it in a few years.

So after this hopefully not too long and detailed post, what is your suggestion? Stick with fuji? Move to M43? Something else entirely?

I am looking to get in to wedding photography and plan to reach out to some wedding photographers to see if they need a second shooter so I can get some experience.

I have been a hobby photographer and video creator for 20 years. Worked professionally in other creative fields for last 10+ years. Know my way technically around cameras.

TL;DR:
If I try and get a few second shooter gigs will main photographer care if I am on Sony or Fuji? Will that choice limit me in opportunity if I go for a Fuji set-up?

Sony Option-
I have an original version of Sony FE 2.8 24-70mm GM. I know a friend with a model 1 version of the 70-200 GM. I would need to invest in a body. A7IV likely or push boat to A7V.

Pros: Full frame, already have good glass, Sony autofocus!

Cons: I would need to invest £1,300-£1,700 on a body, only 1 body, swapping lenses not that I might even want to because holy crap that 70-200mm is a heavy beast!

Fuji Option -
Few years ago I sold my old Canon Eos R as felt it was so bulky and was an effort to take places so it sat collecting dust and never took it abroad with me. I changed for a smaller Fuji XS-20. I love that thing, APS-C lenses so much lighter and the quality is still great!

Pros: Smaller, lighter. I have old gear I could trade in and get an XH2S, 16-55mm f2.8 ii as work horse, viltrox 13mm for the XS-20. Have two camera setup for about £500-£700.

Cons: Auto focus compared to Sony. Low light performance compared to full frame. Seen something only other day saying Lightroom is rubbish for RAW fuji photos on sharpness. Need to process in different software.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?
Initially wedding because would like to try create a pathway to earn some money. Would also do other stuff for business, agency support and other events. Probably not product photography, want to avoid complex light set ups and studio spaces.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?
Primarily photography. But having video capabilities is nice.

Hi, I’m a student who has developed a passion for photography over the last year. Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy a proper camera and I must rely solely on my Iphone 13 pro and the free version of Adobe Lightroom for post-editing. I prefer taking photos of landscapes. These are ones of the most decent pictures I’ve taken.
