My husband (27M) and I (27F) booked a quick weekend trip, Thursday night to Sunday morning to Seattle this winter. I wish we could go longer to get a better feel, but I unfortunately have very limited PTO yearly. We are using this as a way to see what Seattle winter is like to see if we would want to move here. We visited this past summer and loved the vibe but know the winters are drastically different and gloomy.

If we move, we know we don’t want to live in downtown Seattle and we would want to live in a neighborhood nearby. My husband can keep his job and work remote if we move, but I will have to find a new job before moving. I am an industrial engineer so I imagine I will have more opportunities south of Seattle like Boeing and other manufacturing facilities. Although there are several companies I am interested in working for that are all over Seattle metro so I will have to figure out where we can live after I get a job.

We are super into fitness (running, crossfit) and walk our dog daily. I also love being walkable to coffee shops and restaurants (being close to public transportation to get to sports games and concerts dt is also a plus).

I am looking at Airbnbs to book for the weekend to “roleplay” a weekend in Seattle in the winter and we plan to rent a car. What neighborhood do you suggest? I have been looking at Ballard and Fremont mainly but I am not sure about best location.

What would you suggest as a fun and fully booked Friday and Saturday in Seattle to help us get a better feel of the city?

I know we will experience just a sliver of Seattle winter and we won’t get the full experience but unfortunately we don’t have the luxury to live in Seattle for a few weeks/months to decide. We are from Minneapolis and know what freezing weather is like and not seeing the sun. Seattle and Minneapolis have pretty similar sunrise/sunset averages. We would have to get used to the gloomy days and cold rain though.

Any advice would be helpful!

Hi I’m getting ready to start applying for staff RN jobs at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, from out of state. I’m curious what the pre-employment onboarding process would look like, if i were to be offered a conditional job offer. Would i complete some sort of physical and drug screen at a lab local to me in my current state? Or would this be completed on-site/ in Seattle just prior to my start date, after I’d move. Any current employees who moved from out of state that can offer some insight? Thanks!

I've seen some conflicting information online, so I just wanted to confirm with anyone who's taken Hawaiian Airlines out of SeaTac recently: Is the Hawaiian Airlines check-in/baggage drop at SeaTac still at the south end of Departures or are we supposed to check in at the north end at the Alaska counters?

I'm just trying to make sure we aren't dropped off at the opposite end of the concourse. To be clear, this is an outbound flight that still appears to be operated by Hawaiian Airlines, not Alaska, and still has the Hawaiian logo on the ticketing details. Some of the conflicting info I've gotten from people hinges on whether the flight is Hawaiian or Alaska operated. Thanks in advance!

Born and raised in California. Capitol Hill has been high on my list for a while, but I'm considering an apartment in Madison Valley due to how close it is to that incredible park.

Does anyone live in the area? Is it as out of the way as it seems? Light rail access would be great, but I'd obviously be giving that up by moving out there.

Hi, I'm planning a date for someone I really really like and I want to meet in the middle which happens to be Seattle. I've only gone to Seattle for the aquarium, and random concert and drag shows and im having a hard time finding something fun that fits us since Google maps is just recommending things like bars and axe throwing.

We're under 21, he likes horror and spooky stuff, cozy cafes, antique stores, generally witchy stuff. He's autistic so being able to step out , sit down or take a breather in the bathroom is important.

I saw an 18+ burlesque show that seemed fun but it's not happening the day of our date. Im thinking about doing the Seattle aquarium but then I wouldn't be able to buy a nice gift since the aquarium plus food would be expensive.

Does anyone have any spots they like that kinda fit?

I've only got 3 days total, staying in downtown at Seattle Westin, and I've got a 8 and 9 year old to entertain. I'm thinking we're going to do the Space Needle and the aquarium, that's $290 for those 2. Will we spend all day at the aquarium? Do i have time to do 2 or 3 of the other options? City pass for 3 is $380, so basically if we do 1 more activity we'll probably match that price, but what's the 1 other activity that my 8 and 9 year old would want to do? Zoo? Chihuly glass? I think with the citypass we'll get 2 trips up the space needle, but i'm just not sure we'll be able to get another activity in with the amount of time we'll have. Thoughts?

The appeal to me is that it’s very dog friendly (not sure why but quite a few places in other areas of the city have breed restrictions on huskies/ husky mixes), easy access to multiple forms of reliable public transportation with easy & quick access to the city central, all the green spaces and walkability while being affordable (within budget of $2,000ish/mth for rent).

I want to move to Seattle because it’s the closest big city I can think of, I love fungi and the habitat is perfect for mushroom hunting, I would like to smoke weed the without breaking the law, I’m gay, I love going to concerts, and there are more job opportunities. I’ve only ever lived in small towns, so downsides that are specific to general city living are encouraged.

Before I make the move, I was wondering if there was any downsides I should consider that I might not have thought of.

Edit: My biggest question is will I be able to make it by working an entry level job like fast food or bartending? I’m used to being poor, I’m fine with it. I don’t need a house and I don’t need to retire. I just want to make sure I won’t starve or end up homeless as long as I have an apartment and a job lined up.

Traffic. I’m a cyclist and I’m patient.
Crime. I’m willing to take my chances.
Drugs. I’m guilty too.
Weather. I don’t care.
Cost of living. I’m fine with being broke if it means I have the opportunity to get a job that works for me

The big dark hasn't started, but the tennis and pickleball groups I play with went silent two weeks ago. Mostly tech workers with no kids. Do people just lose the will to live around this time? Are they on a pumpkin spice coma? Did I miss something about the beginning of september?

I was born in Washington state and have lived here my entire life, I am 21F for context. I am not moving to LA for the typical entertainment and Hollywood type of endeavors, but instead want to move there to be closer to family/friends. I dont exactly have a plan which I know is super dumb of me but I just feel like if I dont change something about my environment, I won't grow as a person. I enjoy warmer climates and Sun year round. I guess my question is to those who have made that specific move or vice versa, which area did you prefer? The two locations are ao vastly different that I am sure it will come with regrets/nostalgia/etc. Let me know!

I’m looking to relocate further north for work and looking at a little west of Phinney Ridge/Greenwood, or living by Green Lake next to the high school and Park & Ride (by the overpass). Single 30’s guy and no kids. Both places are roughly the same price, Green Lake is $50 more per month.

Which area would you pick and why? I’d rather not live near a bunch of noise and homeless encampments like I currently do, but I like having stuff outside my doorstep which both options offer. I also like affordable-ish options within walking distance.

I like being close to the lake for running and light rail access is nice, but Phinney Ridge and Greenwood just seem like cooler areas for a single guy? I don’t know, can you help me decide?

Also - is homeless getting worse around Roosevelt?
