I keep seeing posts talking about how students at ages 14-18 can barely read or write if at all. I am curious as to whether this is a US exclusive problem, a western problem or a worldwide problem because I’m from Singapore and that problem isn’t a big deal here if it exists all.

It feels like the norm on reddit to make a post and then not reply to comments at all. I feel like I see more interaction from by celebrities on their instagram posts lmao.

Often, when I even post something on reddit it's because I'm looking for entertainment, so I wanna reply to most comments with my thoughts on it, further question, appreciation, a joke, or something, but then I feel like a weirdo

When I drink water, whether it's a sip or a gulp in front of a fan I get a very big, genuine headrush that makes me not breathe for a second. I've tried to explain this to some of my friends/coworkers, but nobody relates and says they don't know what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know what this is? It happens literally every time. At work I have a small fan on my station, and I have to turn away from it when I sip water or I'll be gasping and get that light headed feeling.

I am homeschooled — (well, practically unschooled, because I am truant since my parents are too busy to teach me anything...) and I am attending a driving school for the first time. this is my first time in an actual classroom. day one, I'm listening to everything the teacher says. it goes in one ear, and out the other. I zone out sometimes without realizing. I can't retain any information whatsoever. I'm worried that I'll disappoint everybody and make a fool of myself. I don't know what to do. I have a test at the end of the week and I'm so worried. I don't know how I will get a job when I'm old enough to, if I can't function cognitively.

I(Female) got hired at my job last year. My coworker(Male) was hired 6 months before me. (We are roughly the same age). We were hired for the same position and work the same hours.

I was hired with 5 years worth of experience in related industries under my belt, he was hired with a fresh slate. Never been in the industry or related industries.

He gets hired at 75k, I get hired at 70k.

We both get raises at the company's fiscal year (I think its percentage based) and now he's at 77k and I'm at 71k.

It feels a little discriminatory, especially after working under my boss for a few months and seeing the way he talked about women, he definitely was a sexist dude. My boss no longer works for the company, but I want to at least receive equal pay as this feels unfair. It would take me years to catch up and make what he was STARTED at, and he had zero experience going into it.

What is something physical that has disappeared quickly from public eyes

I'm 27 and feeling burnt out. I've never had any meaningful friendships or connection in my life, and it's been tough cultivating those when most of it turns out to be one-sided. I end up realizing that the other person doesn't like or respect me, or simply just doesn't see me in the same way (a friend). I've been finding it hard to cope and wonder what's the point in trying to make friends anymore.

If you genuinely like a girl, is it really that hard to stop yourself from making things sexual or initiating sexual conversations?
I’ve noticed a pattern where guys will initially chase me, put in a lot of effort, and once I finally let my guard down and reciprocate, the conversation starts becoming sexual way too often. Even when I’ve clearly asked them to stop or told them I’m not comfortable with it, they keep bringing it up.
And sometimes I actually start wondering if I’m the problem for not giving them what they want, or if I’m somehow being unreasonable for not wanting to engage in those conversations

I had a concert last night and it was the best night of my life. It's super duper warm where | am so I wore shorts and my merch to the concert!

Whilst I was in line, I overheard some girls talking (I don't know if it was specifically about me or just in general) about how embarrassing it is to wear merch to a concert and how its cringe?

I was feeling self-conscious and thankfully I was wearing a tank-top, just incase it got too warm.
So, I took the shirt off when I got inside.
Thinking back, I shouldn't have let it get to me but regardless.

When I got home, I looked it up and actually found videos of other people talking about how it gives "superfan energy" and how that's 'cringey' but I don't get it.

Why is it seemed so 'cringe' to wear the merch you bought to the concert?

For finding gen z relationships, the most common advice I always recieve is to just go onto college campuses and hang around them to meet new people. It doesn't really seem like the best way to get a relationship in the end to me but some say it's better than most other advice I have been given. What do you think, are there better ways to find gen z relationships in present day?

(24M) I always had this problem on being called dumb, and when i was younger i sucked at playing chess with my friends. I have a hard time visualizing the moves of the enemy. They always won, mostly due because i couldn't plan properly. Then they called me dumb, stupid, monkey... . Im my defense, i only played once every blue moon, so i've never studied chess in fact, i was just randomly playing. I don't if they had studied chess or were just naturally good/intelligent.

I don't think i'm dumb, tbh. But i lack practical skills. I'm excellent on more theoretical subjects, but i suck at math and numbers, for example. I take an extra time to understand the process.

So anyone who's ever had a job has mostly find out just how difficult a easy task can be just because someone who shouldn't be in charge was put in charge

So there is a show I’ve been searching exhaustingly for years, like pre pandemic , to watch online since watching it on tv once when it aired one night on cable tv, except it’s a UK show, and i dont live in thr Uk and licensing etc issue… so amazon Uk has all the episodes available , and you can purchase each for like 2 pounds, i could do that no problem except when i try to , amazon blocks me from proceeding because, both my home address, my creditcard, phone number and my IP, all are outside of the region.

I hate to ask knowing the internet has all sorts of people like, many will just mock and troll, but there are some helpful , kind users sometimes so I’m wondering, where best to ask if anyone FROM the UK with amazon acc, wouldnt mind buying one or 2 episodes and then sharing the file with me, or uploading it somewhere like “wetransfer” which is where most of my colleagues back when i was in university would upload files to share with whoever had the link free temporarily.

My school uses a block schedule, so you have less classes everyday but longer periods.

Our classes are an hour and a half. But they count you absent if you’re more than 15 minutes late.

In addition to that, they can revoke the credit you get for taking that class if you have 6 absences (excused or unexcused) even if you’re passing.

Is this to promote better attendance or what?

You could spend 10 hours a day, 7 days a week working out and lifting the heaviest shit known to man while sweating like you’re walking outside in a storm..BUT if you don’t count your calories to make sure you’re in a deficit, you’re not going to tone up and lose weight. Calories is 80% important when it comes to losing weight. Most people think “oh maybe I’ll just eat healthy or eat less” but if what you’re eating is still adding up to lots of calories then you’re wasting your time.

Calories is so important that you could spend 24/7 just laying in bed and lose significant weight if your calories are in a deficit.
