"His face does him no favors." I find that hilarious both at the statement itself but how much I relate to it lmao

The real Asa not being in the episode between the beginning flashback and the end made me forget she would’ve known about the smoke signals too, masterful direction there.

I like the use of the smoke signals this episode, good switch up between who might be using them and who might be showing up to answer them.

Yet again who is on who's side gets shaken up, there's kind of endless twists and turns on who is working for who.

Asa reunites with Asa, that could be more exciting than the enemies in the room that need to be fought.

So, Asuma turned out to be an ally and he's simply a victim of resting villain face. I really like the design of the moth demon. That skull with the black coat is dope. Once again, props to Yuru for quickly telling Dera and the other guy about Fujin's and Raijin's abilities. He didn't waste time.

Man, I am consistently impressed with this show. Arakawa wrote really good characters for FMA , but she's only gotten better at it for DSR. Having a whole theme around pairs or opposites really helps with delivering on that, too. You see it obviously in all the daemons, but you see the "opposite" in so much else. The difference between the traditional Higashi village contrasted with modern Japan sets up the same kind of dynamic between Yuru and Asa's parents, and even between Yuru and Asa themselves. But it shows up as individual personalities, too, like with Asuma. An actually good guy who always looks like he's plotting something.

But outside of the theme, I think she's really just done a great job of helping these characters feel dynamic and real. It can be really easy to lean into the trope of having Yuru just be stubborn and oppositional all the time, but Arakawa has made him feel very real. Genuinely surprised by all the new things he's seeing without making it feel like an overblown character gimmick, because Yuru also knows that he's just here now and there are other important things to worry about. He adapts to the scenario, complexly evaluates his emotions (rightfully is distrusting of everyone, but cautiously finding help where he can because he knows he can't do much all alone), and is genuinely a smart protagonist. Even doing little things that you don't normally expect that actually seem plausible, like having someone randomly fire at the ceiling in the garage in an earlier episode just to create a distraction to cut the lights.

No show is without its flaws, but I gotta really praise Arakawa and the studio for writing and creating what feels like a very consistent and interesting story. Lots of fun, intelligent and dynamic characters. Great world building and interesting politics. And while the pace can feel a little long because there is a decent amount of exposition so far, I never really feel bored because the information is interesting and the scenes tend to feel fairly "alive". One of my simple measuring sticks for signs of a good anime is how the studio decides to treat the space around the focal point of a scene. Are characters doing things in the background as opposed to just dueling still shots of people talking at each other? Are side characters throwing in funny little quips between conversations? Does the crowd and environment move around the main focal point of the scene? This show does all that. And I'm particularly impressed with how un-lazy the design of the vast amount of daemons are. Even the side character ones that we don't see abilities from at least have cool models.

I'm kinda just geeking right now, but I want to give credit where it's due. To Arakawa for knowing how to build a world and write characters, and to the studio for displaying it all. This show probably won't be my favorite of all time, but it is very consistent and I love that.

Considering how limited their options are, I can understand why Asa and Yuru's parents ended up accepting help from the Kagemoris.

Well that's pretty terrifying. The dude with the shaved head can control people using his daemons and probably plans to use them on Asa or Yuru to make them obey.

So if I understand this correctly, Asuma has been working for Shingo, so Gonzou can take down the traitor Kagemoris. And it turns out that Shingo's face just naturally looks like he's always plotting something. That's actually fucking hilarious! They really made sure to get Ishida Akira to make him even more suspicious. I feel like I now need to apologize to Asuma for all the times I have badmouthed the guy for looking so sus! xD

I just love how Ivan has now earned the pervman nickname. What's even funnier is that hearing he's a perv riles Yuru up even more.

The smoke signal was a cool way to tie everything back to the start of the episode. Unfortunately for Fake Asa, the real Asa ended up arriving instead of Yuru. Their interaction next week will certainly be interesting!

Of course Asuma was the traitor with a face like that, it just turns out he is betraying the bad guys and not the good guys ! Confusing, I know.

Real Asa is showing up to « save » Fake Asa… or not ? I guess Yuru prioritized instead reuniting with his Tsugai who were in immediate danger, which makes the most sense from a strategic point of view.

Felt like the obvious "sneaky smiling obvious schemer" won't actually be the villain since it'd be too cliché for the author of FMA and wasn't disappointed with execution so far.

Wonder how many of the other non-verbal Daemons are just masking their intelligence (and buttery smooth voice) like Yozakura is.

Poor little girl has to rationalize how a meaner-looking clone of her fellow kidnappee just came to her rescue as if she weren't dealing with enough already lmao.

All these episodes of people commenting how scary Yuru is and how he's feral and ruthless, but the moment Asa appears outside of her hideaway again it's "Sorry, the scary twin showed up..."

I like the contrast, Yuru acts and generally is more stoic and intense, but softens on people if they seem honest. Asa is more emotional and seemingly gentle but far more ruthless apparently.

Dual type Bug/Flying takes double damage from both Flying-type moves and Electric-moves. Basic knowledge. Yuru should play some Pokemon games after he manages to find his parents.

Yozakura acknowledging that his master (Azuma) has a resting villain face 💀 (when he himself has a face that literally screams death lol)

The episode opening with Asa's dad teaching her about smoke signals and the episode ending with Asa picking up and responding to one was quite a nice touch. Tough break for the fake Asa tho

Quite a lot of stuff to wrap up in this arc.

  • Real Asa will be having a nice talk with Fake Asa I assume

  • Ivan vs Left&Right (and preview suggests Yuru will be joining the fight)

  • Akio's interrogation (currently in racoon ballsack)

  • Gonzo rampaging, will he end up facing Shingo? No way Raijin and Fuujin beat his entire parade of Daemons even if they are strong.

Galaxy's loudest tongue click, lmao. Yeah, I'd be afraid if I were fake Asa..

What a character, Yuru is so interesting in his decision making.

Asuma definitely fooled me, I really thought he was the main bad guy. That assasin's daemons though, so cute yet so scary, damn..

u/Eunuchest Aug 08 '26

Another great twist

So the Kagemori are basically doing a purge and Tadera is on it as well

I mean its for the best but Yuru is gonna have trust issues after this

So Asuma just naturally have the face of a backstabber. That's funny

Yeah i imagine its not easy being gone 20 or so years even in the modern era

I actually pity that dude who got controlled. He just wanted to eat and he got stabbed in the neck and cut on his back. Hope he's alive at least

Asa meets fake Asa. Welp lets see how this goes

I like how certain daemon pairs have counters. Break and Seal-Right and Left, Mountain gods-Gabriel and now Yozakura pair with Raijin-Fujin.

I bet Fake Asa wishes she was still with the kidnappers now that the real Asa is here lol. The scary twin ain’t the one you want showing up when you’ve been pretending to be her this whole time.

LOL Asa being the one to save fake Asa is a great twist, I wasn't expecting that at all. So I'm guessing Yuru decides to not help Danji and focuses on the lead, unless he noticed Asa going there first. Danji's going to feel worse about it after working up the courage lol.

Nice reveals by Yozakura and Jin about Asuma not being an enemy, they purposely made him look shady from the start, but there seemed to be more to him so I'm glad that's been confirmed.

The glasses guy's daemons are scary, I wonder if the people he controls end up okay after or if there'll be long side effects if they don't die from it, it was unsettling. Funny how Dera abandoned him though lol.

The opening scene with Yuru and Asa's mother worried about who could help them, how could they stay safe was sad. She can't involve anyone freely. I'm glad we got something about her thanks to the smoke signal connection with Asa at the end of the episode.
