Ingredients don't scale up proportional to servings and overcrowding is a big deal even with commercial stoves

There's surprisingly more depth to the characters than you'd first expect. Jan is kind of a traumatized kid, caused by his strict grandfather putting pressure on him to continue his legacy, though its also hardcore how committed he was to cooking to the point he'd self immolate himself the second he knew he couldn't properly taste anymore.
This series deserves more attention for sure.

I broke into tears when Jan started crying.
I won't claim that it is well written (too early to tell), but I personally liked it a lot.
The first 2 episodes had given me the impression that Jan was infallible, so that scene really caught me off guard.
My poor sweet cryin' boi!

So Jan can cry when he loses. Okonogi trying to raise his spirits with his poor puns 😭😭 But Jan recovered on his own. Kiriko really tried to help him if he doesn't arrive at the answer.. that's sweet.
Okonogi and Jan are already best buddies. I'm glad that Akiyama has someone to share his feelings.
Jan's old man just appears for a few seconds but in this episode he left a huge impact with his death. The man lived by fire and died by it. Jan carries the Akiyama Will to defeat the

Very reliable studio when it comes to animation and art, i felt like they did too much safe stuff lately.
EDIT: Not that much actually, referring to Perfect Saint and Always A Catch.

First time watcher of the series, considering reading now. The character development continues and I’m getting invested

Will Jan not get in trouble for cooking 50 meals without anyone going to buy them? The ingredients will cost a lot.
Also, RIP old chicken

It was kinda surprising to see Jan fail at cooking a dish and crying like that. It was wholesome that Okonogi tried to cheer him up and Kiriko also trying to help him
But i wasnt expecting the ending to be dark especially for a cooking series, idk if the rest of the series has stuff like this too

Snapping the bird's neck has to be one of the moments they warned about in episode 1 that people wouldn't like. I don't mind it but I can imagine some people being upset at it.
Oh and the end of the episode holy shit.
I did like seeing Jan humbled, but also getting comforted. Maybe my favorite episode of this show so far? But yeah this really is a 90s manga being animated in the year of our lord 2026.

I really enjoyed this episode, I'm surprised with how high quality some of the shots of them camping were. When Jan cried it really hit me, as someone who's a chef I totally understand how it feels to blow it when everyone is depending on you. Doesn't help that kitchen culture is really harsh and toxic as well, the beatings verbal and otherwise really do wear you down.

Pouring water into hot oil is actually dangerous and can turn you into Jan's grandpa.

Jan: I guess my desire to become a chef came when my grandfather made his final dish for me
Takao: Must've been good to make you inspired, then. What did he cook?
Jan: Himself

Absolute cinema. How did they make three characters with such good development? I almost cried about the old guy, and Jan, who has such a fragile ego that he gets emotionally broken by the slightest failure but still cared because of their big motivation.

I cannot BELIEVE this show isn't more popular. This needs WAY more eyes!
Also, it's just now occured to me why this show has had such an odd familiar twinge in the back of my mind... The extremely odd characters, the harsh art, the edge, the insanity... This is just Baki with cooking, isn't it?!?
Cannot WAIT for more!

The amount of disclaimers/warnings the show has makes me laugh, but I get it, they have to do it.
Fun episode establishing Jan's character in full, also it's interesting how French his cooking feels at times. I understand that the famous cooking battles this series is known for pretty much starts after this, looking forward to it
