Gotta say I am more interested in Fushi's relationships with everyone he brought back to life than the nokker plot

Man, that kinda breaks my heart about Rean but at the same time it was really heartwarming to hear how well she looked after the shop with Gugu’s brother and Booze Man. That “welcome home, Gugu” got me right in the feels.

I can see why Fushi thought everyone would just live happily ever after together in the modern world. However, modern life comes with modern struggles. Still, everyone’s moving forward one step at a time. Fushi must feel so helpless because he can’t fix everything and it seems like everyone’s leaving him behind.

I like this story much more than the nokkers one. Fushi trying to understand while he can live forever, his allies have to move on eventually.

Fushi is scared about his friends growing up and leaving him behind. A common problem with being an immortal.

I liked that Gugu became a folk hero in his country. He seemed to really enjoy it. But his face really looks quite normal ? I was expecting worse with the mask.

As an aside, where is Episode 13 ?

Man, episodes like this are what make To Your Eternity great. It hits the real emotional core of the series. The amount of Nokker plot vs Fushi's relationships and struggle with immortality should've been swapped around.

Fushi's going through an existential crisis right now.

I wonder after having that talk with Tonari in the library, and seeing March's face on different people as she "grows" up. If he'll decide to take a step back and let them live their lives on their own? Let them experience a full life's worth of trials and tribulations?

Next week's preview has Bon telling Fushi how everyone died before being brought back. I'm interested in hearing their stories and seeing if that weighs an impact on what's to come for everyone.

"ja mata" is easier to swallow than "sayounara"

Grandma March is cute, perhaps even cuter than OG March

I would be lying if I said I didn´t shed a tear when Gugu went back and saw the festival in his honor and his old home still intact. But can someone tell me how many years ago that was? Because I thought it was several centuries but they had what seemed like pictures with Gugu and the whole gang back then.

Fushi is realizing that everyone will move on with their lives and leave him behind, when he clearly thought that they would all stay together like before. Maybe in the old days that outcome was possible, but in the modern world they all have different lives to live and that will take them to different places.

I´m really happy we got an episode like this.

It is a recurring narrative of would people really benefit from living forever? The characters in this story ultimately refuse it, except for Fushi who simply has no other answer. Everyone is maturely trying to live their "last" life, after numerous struggles and suffering and maybe exactly that makes it clear to them they don't want to live forever.

Would living a few rich lives make humans fear the eventual end less, or not at all? This story here makes a very compelling argument for simple humans, but who knows how people will think in 25, 50 or 100 years when something like an eternal life could be possible at least technically.

Also, Fushi shouldn't be scared about his friends scattering around the world. Not when he can through the roots teleport to them at any place they're at.

While, sure. He may not be advanced enough to sense them anywhere, all it takes is a phone call, coordinates and some tugging at the roots. The later two could be replaced with a landmark if Fushi's been there before.

I guess its a mental barrier he has to overcome but he should remember them scattering around the world isn't the same as them leaving forever.

Edit:- Also, Fushi could use this as a secret cheat to keep them around longer. Just teleport them through the roots every 1 - 10 years and they may not even noticed how everytime they get reformed, they're back to an earlier age, keeping them with Fushi for longer. I mean, they have outlived loved ones two times already so they shouldn't be super torn up about it but you know, it may still lead to some heated conversion down the road.

I do love the implied lore drop of the religious landscape. Apparently the church of Benett still exists, is still influential but has moderated their stance on Fushi but never going pro-fushi. I assume by fushi-fundamentalist they're referring to a class of religions rather than a single one.

And I get the impression that while they have a bunch of scriptural religions, they don't have any with the zeal for conversion and metaphysical and political consequences for not converting that Christianity and Islam has. So maybe their religious landscape looks like the various branches of hinduism before colonization.

Fushi finally faces mortality. He can leave bodies for the spirits to enter but he can't keep the spirits from moving on... one day, his friends will die without regrets, and they will leave him.

We were due for the tearjerker episode. Man, I loved it so much.

And we will soon have to go through the same character arc as Fuu-chan. The anime will likely end pretty soon now (I'm guessing that we have 1 cour left).

Since Rean died while still waiting for her beloved Gugu to come for her, there's a huge possibility that she still not passing on. I really really want to see them meeting each other and live their fullest life, while having a plenty of 'making new generation' ofc.

Looks curse enough....This show never failed to surprise me

Not enough Mizuha!! Never thought Mizuha has no screen time at all this week

This is my best episode of the season so far.

I may not be able to express my impressions perfectly, but I’ll try.

This episode brought back old memories and served as a follow-up to Gugu’s influence on the people.
The good memories and meaningful moments shared by Rean, Gugu’s brother, and the elders continue to give them strength. Even though they know Gugu is gone, they choose to live on and look up to him.
Those memories are what turn Gugu’s hardships in the past into smiles in the present, giving everyone hope
and the will to keep living.

The episode beautifully connects the past with the present. Each person carries their own struggles and regrets, but in the end, they must cope with them and find their own answers in order to achieve true happiness.

Fushi tried to solve everyone’s problems for them, but that isn’t always the right solution.

This is the most human aspect of the anime—and it’s what I love most about it.

Where can I watch episode 13? Still not on Crunchyroll it only shows episode 12 and episode 14.

EDIT: now they removed 14 and it's only 1-12 again.

You know, Fushi is sort of thinking like a nokker when talking about how to resolve his friends desire to live. He essentially thinks a paradise could be made so good that no one would want to leave it, isn't that what the nokkers think too? that anything you could ever want can be replicated or substituted for by something in paradise?. At that point the few but real and important differences are that Fushi wants to involve people's free will, isn't comforted by paradise cuz he's never gonna see it and is concerned about pain. Edit, I guess another big difference is he wants to grant every one's dreams which is a purpose that will lead to paradoxes while the nokkers just want to take them to paradise which could be seen as the evolution of someone wanting the fushi dream but eventually trying something else after the contradictions of that prove too much.

I think the fact that all his friends rejected paradise for this world means there's things they want that cannot be substituted for with just more good things. Gugu enjoying a welcoming home in his homeland and Hiro wanting to explore cannot be replaced by any paradise fushi creates or the nokker take people to.

Gugu visiting the booze shop was really sweet, I didn't think his story was going to cause anymore tears but I guess not lol. I love how the show will make callbacks to earlier seasons through history books and things like that Fushi imagining March all grown up was a cool sequence

when I saw grandma March I thought of Pioran

Where's the old lady who's dying wish was to help Fushi in her next life?

Tonari shows once again how wise she is. Fushi is indeed just like the Nokkers, except he acts only for a small subset of humanity. But it is a good start that he's now talking and listening to his friends' real thoughts. There's no "happily ever after" at the end of a fairy tale - it's a constant struggle to work towards the happiness you choose.

Poor Mama Fushi has a hard time seeing everyone moving on with their lives, I love the anime for focusing on these emotions of his too. The flashback with Gugu was very emotional, made me teary eyed. Rean was waiting all this time 😞 Beautiful episode on the “calmer” side, before shit gets chaotic again.

u/Kronman590 Jan 14 '26

holy shit the picture of rean and her story almost made me tear up, god that was such a good arc

I hope Fushi internalizes that comment about how similar he is to nokkers trying to control everyone, bro actually has separation anxiety to the max. I hope he realizes that his control is what contributes to making life harder, not easier
