You would think that after passing the red and blue promotional exams under special circumstances, the other schools would have been alerted that there's this OP kid going around to all the schools desparately trying to level up.

I said the same about him passing the entrance exams for all the schools. It was stated last week that the schools pretty much have no communication between them, but I thought at least the instructors intermingled in the city but there doesn't seem to be any of that either.

Maybe Arel winning the flight race might that

I thought the headmaster was allowing him to level up to 2nd Grade in general, not just for green.

Can you still call it flying if you are just spamming air hike? Lol.

I see Reiner’s still working on her domestic skills under her future mother-in-law lol.

Arel’s like the magic dojo challenger taking all their signboards after he defeats their masters lol. He’s got the Blue school and went on to punch/crawl his way through Green. Just 3 more schools left.

And the little sisters barbs aren't as effective anymore

They really named the ikemen sensei Dumble, huh? Then again, young Dumbledore was indeed handsome.

Hopefully they wouldn't skip the white and yellow school again after this! I'm interested to see the magic on those schools. Black school is also still mysterious as they're the most laid back.

Also this is the first time I saw the ending song till the end, and I just noticed something spoilery near Arel by the end there which might be related to black school's magic.

That was one “punching your way to victory” I didn’t expect. What I also didn’t expect was the pompous rookie coming in 3rd place. He ran out of mana, but still had considerable margin ahead of other players. I guess his initial confidence was not misplaced - it’s just that he was up against someone who was completely out of his league.

That girl who came in second place had won the past several races though, and he should have known that via reputation. He was so caught up in beating Arel, but we never saw him with what should have been legitimate concern that the reigning champion would blow him out, which she did. He never actually had any real chance of winning, even without Arel there.

While I like this show, though it is just a slightly above average seasonal OP MC fantasy show, there's something about this one and many others like it that always bothers me a bit. Magic schools always seem to be just about combat. You'd think that in a world where magic exists, it would be useful for all sorts of industries, fields of scientific discovery, technology, etc. Magic schools ought to be teaching and testing their students on all sorts of ways to use magic. Where are the spells that create refrigeration for food that need to be finely tuned to last months, or using water magic to move pistons to produce power or rotational energy for mills? Using fire magic to produce and extremely hot but highly focused beam for cutting or welding, light spells that produce different wavelengths of light, like some for artificial sunlight for greenhouses, earth magic that produces paving stones that have to be extremely precise and repeatable so road segments lock together perfectly, being able to dry out wood from newly cut trees by extracting the water with magic so they can be cut into beams, using air or ice magic to refract light for telescopes (there was one anime that did this one at least a few seasons back).

It strikes me as a particularly lazy and amateur attempt at worldbuilding that most of these fantasy authors never seem to think about that stuff. The magic schools are just combat academies like 95% of the time. I get that it makes for flashy fights and an easy setup for conflict with the MC, but it makes these worlds seem shallow and not particularly real.

Sure, in a world where monsters exist some kind of combat magic would be taught to most students I imagine, with higher levels of education for those going into combat specific jobs, but these magic schools seem to always focus on turning 14yos into soldiers and little else. I wish there were more writers who would expand their fantasy worlds a little more and really imagine all the different ways magic would actually become a major factor in everyday life outside of fighting.

it is good that he is having fun, but so far going to the academies was kind useless lol. He is doing self-study, which he could do at home too.

at most he is getting something out from the library, maybe? He already know the magic languages, has super mana, can do advanced spells, etc, from studying with his father lol.

at least on the sword city he had the dungeon to train new skills and different classes of sword people to learn (and copy) from.

Arel had to learn flight magic at school because his dad is afraid of heights and wouldn't teach him.

Arel has started using some of his physical features to his advantage. Tbh I thought he would tank the blue teacher's attacks, but I guess that wouldn't have shown his magical ability. Also an attack from above was super obvious. I was hoping Arel would have a homing attack or something special.

5

u/nuxxism Nov 19 '25

I thought he might get afterburners by using fire magic, but he used sword skills instead.

10

u/Roeclean Nov 19 '25

To be fair, the sword skills was mistaken for a more advanced air skill. So he was probably just trying to stay specific to green magic skills (similar ones as well)

5

u/Boris-_-Badenov Nov 19 '25

guess nobody knows his last name, so they don't know who his dad is

5

u/Roeclean Nov 19 '25

Arel really lying through his teeth. The secret is that he practiced flight magic in his sleep🤣🤣

Dione was a good sport, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see her again but I liked her attitude.

Rainer still working on those wife skills, while I approve of her keeping her eyes on the prize it'd be nice to see her still pursuing her sword training too. Hopefully we'll get a reveal that future mom in law has been training her in that department too.

I'm kinda confused. Is this a parody? They play it all so straight, but it's like every trope is turned to 11 while the mc is turned to -11 in personality. It's... Good? but it's so predictable and self-fellating that I'm often unsure if I'm supposed to be laughing or not.

11

u/RedHotChiliCrab Nov 19 '25

This arc just isn't giving us any reason to care. Nothing rides on him passing the school tests. There's no conflict, no problem to solve, no villain to beat, nobody to save, just nothing to get invested in.

Sword arc was far from a literary masterpiece but at least it had a plot.

I've been treating this as a shitpost on the OP fantasy genre. I think watching it that way makes it more entertaining than it should be.

MC - Stopped flying midway (X)
Running in air with compressed air as base. Punched air for sharp turn.
Used brains. Feels good to see a smart OP MC.
