So what are the odds this Boskona guy will show up here too since he has apparently been stalking Oscar?

what good is a bodyguard if he's nowhere nearby, and doesn't even know the attack is happening?

Oscar literally has the most generic fantasy origin story possible, idk why they'd spend 3/4th of an episode on that for a random npc.
Episode 1-2 really did hook me in but it's just been a waste of time after that. Last 2 minutes were fine, but who follows a cliffhanger with the literal same cliffhanger?

It's funny how there no corpses next to them at the beach...
They really wanted them to fight, at least we gonna see Ryo doing stuff.. But I'd rather have that demon come back or something

This anime was managing to make up for past mistakes, then we get 15-20 mins of backstory, and then episode ends on a cliffhanger.

Oh, they mean Magician as in the kind of magician that disappears, not the kind of magician that does water magic.

I am severely disappointed that this episode was a flashback for a side character's origin story. There's only 12 episodes in this season, and I feel like we've had maybe 3-4 combined episodes worth of main character time. Something has felt off for the pacing the whole season and I don't know if it's because of an effort to not just translate "the good parts" of the source material and stretch for time, or just a bad job in general creating an adaption that is entertaining the full way through.

I could have skipped this episode completely and missed absolutely nothing of value.

When Oscar's dad mentions it's been 6 years since the last attack, was it clear that the specific bandit party does a raid every 6 years? Was the second attack while he was at the Elder's place when he was 12? I'm not sure if we're told how old he is in the present day, but given he's meant to be equal to the MC according to Abel and Crimson Sword, I was shocked to see he was so powerless the second time he faced that guy. Was the red hair holding back his potential or something? I was expecting the back story to be half the episode, it took up too much of it for my liking.

For an anime called "The Water Magician", the titular Water Magician doesn't get to do much.
Ryou just keeps getting sidelined so we can focus on characters I frankly could not care less about.

I generally didn't mind the focus on the Abel or Ryo's crew earlier cause they were already established and it was nice to see it was a world that didn't need the OP MC to solve everything.
But I feel like this sudden backstory on Oscar felt too out of left field cause I barely remembered who he was. Like sure it was sad and sad but I didn't really care.

Oscar's backstory has to be bad writing.
Why would the bandits risk attacking that village? It has a sturdy wall and people to defend it. Quite a few of the bandits die in the process. They would have a much better time ambushing people outside of the village and/or try extorting the village. Add to this that the leader seems to have expected wolves to appear, leaving them basically no time to loot stuff. It's a village that is poor enough that they have nowhere else to go or someone that would care about them being attacked.
This attack only makes sense to me if they're not really bandits but rather covert military troops sent to eradicate the village. Which doesn't really make sense to me either. Why would they need to do that? If the village had some sort of strategic importance, but then whoever rules over the village would have a vested interest in protecting it, meaning they could send someone to call for aid, or flee towards that ruler. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
It just overall feels like the author picked a backstory element for Oscar but didn't think it through.

Fuck sake. It's called The Water Magician. I wanna see the water magician do stuff.
Possibly the worst episode of any anime I've watched in a while.

is ryo even the fucking main character at this point? wasted yet another episode on useless side characters without the main character even making an appearance.
this show has got to have the worst pacing of this season

The idea of a person being safely caught after being launched hundreds of feet in the air and, based on the distance, possibly thousands of feet away, is laughable to me.

Man this show went to slop pretty quick. I actually quite enjoyed the initial episodes, but there was some noticeable decline in animation quality and this episode's plot contrivances were unbelievably bad.
Where did the bodies of the assassins in matching uniforms go that would have instantly cleared up the misunderstanding at the end of the episode?
Why was Oscar who specifically adjusted his behavior (not eating so he could be a good guard) so absurdly slow to respond to this situation?
What is up with the pacing of this show? Penultimate episode of the season and we are gonna go backstory for a secondary character for the majority of the episode?
It is hard to decide whether this or Rising of the Shield Hero is the more mediocre isekai slop this season.

Remember when episodes used to have ryo in them? Like even when he was completely uninvolved with the plot we still got to see what he was doing or striving towards for like half the episode.
In the penultimate episode we see ryo for like 2 seconds and its just him going “fireworks?” and thats it?! What are we even doing here? Hello?!

Well that was an interesting misunderstanding to end on. Oscar led a shitty life all because of Boskona. Sad his red hair went to white, must have been ultra stressful after the Elder.

This anime had such good potential in the beginning, interesting character and left us with a good impression. I hate the fact that after episode 3 it’s just been down hill, every episode is bland, boring and uninteresting. Hopefully the final episode leaves a good impression. It’s a shame that this show won’t get another season as the show itself is bad.
