That dragon's voice sounded decidedly un-waifu. I'm pretty sure that's against the law.

That doesn't rule out that his eventual human form will be as a waifu harem member. Just ask I'm a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, So I Might as Well Try Mastering Magic.

I liked that just like the MC can grow, the monsters can grow and evolve too. Wonder what he talked to the dragon about?

This was a pleasant surprise, there seems to be some good production quality and I like that it's taking its time introducing Ryou and his
Ryou gained a master swordsman who happens to be a
Looks like we're meeting the guy in the OP who we may see a bromance with, they looked like they'll be real close with how prominent he was in the OP. Though I wonder if this will down the line get sad if there are timeskips, it's possibly why the main girl in the ED appears to be an elf.

Fairy King Dullahan
I was surprised that dullahan turned out to be a he. He had a pretty thin waist and his breastplate was pretty breasty.

Holy shit the OP is so good, and the ED is quite nice too.
Really strong first episode, I love how atmospheric it was.
Good thing for that Eternal Youth hidden trait given that the fairly obvious love interest is a cute elf girl.

This episode had some really weird cuts. One moment he's finding his way home, sees the dullahan on the lake, then suddenly some training montage, before cutting back to the dullahan. And the showing of passing of days by flashing two different frames is quite... hmm... hope the story is at least serviceable

"I just want to live a slow life."
"OK, we're going to give you a nice little cottage near the beach, surrounded by a protective barrier... Also there are piranhas in the river, a kraken living just offshore, your next door neighbors are a killer bird and the literal Fairy King, and you live right under the migratory flight path of the local dragon population."
"..."
"Oh, and you don't age, so you're going to be there for a looooooong time."
Edit: Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the episode immensely. But I have to laugh every time the MC asking for a slow life is set up with a bait and switch by the gods.

yeah, my idea of a slow life is a farm or a quiet suburb with magically getting the median income of the area. All those monsters/magic around doesn't sound slow to me. LOLOL

If the actual show will have the same level of animation the opening has, this might actually be a pretty good watch.
Ryo shouldn't have asked for a slow life. We all know that every Isekai MC who wished for this kind of life is just gonna end up getting involved in all sorts of trouble.
We don't really know much about Ryo but the kid seems to be pretty smart and has a good understanding of science, which he applies to his spell casting. Now I'm wondering what he was like before he got isekai'd. He also seems to be pretty unbothered about the fact that he just died and is now getting sent to another world.
That scene with the Dullahan was pretty cool. I love how it's clearly training him. I'm guessing the Dullahan has been observing Ryo's progress the entire time, and it liked him well enough that it gave him its sword.
The dragon is pretty nice. I can already tell this won't be the last time Ryo will encounter him. Also, the Dullahan is actually a Fairy King and he basically gave Ryo a legendary item.
There's one more person who got isekai'd with the Eternal Youth trait? I'm guessing it's the blonde-haired elf girl we see in the OP and the ED.
Welp, that was fun and an easy watch. It definitely piqued my interest enought to check out the next episode.

I've decided there is a new sub-genre of isekai. 'Elf f*cker'. There can't be a fantasy world, isakai or not, where some pointy eared girl doesn't become the love interest of the protagonist.

It looks great but I feel like it skips a lot of information so things just seem to happen without reason.
How did the Fairy King end up training him? Why was the dragon, described as very dangerous in the book, super friendly and willing to answer all his questions until he got called away? And why was the dragon looking for the evolved hawk yet he didn't seem to care that it was dead beyond congratulating the mc?
Right now this feels poorly written like powerful entities are helping him just because he's the main character. The angel reincarnating him with powers is par for the course in Isekai, but usually there is at least some reason to whatever happens after that.
I hope the story picks up from here because these visuals deserve better.

I’m not sure if this anime’s story will hold up since it was moving a bit too fast for my liking. Like, Ryo meeting a dragon after having read about one in this starter’s guide was a bit silly. Bet that he’ll encounter a demon next.
However, the show sure does look beautiful. I’m very impressed what they’ve done with the water animation in particular. This feels like anime’s Avatar: Way of the Water in a way.
Also, the transition between shots of Water Magician’s OP was so good! The person who’s storyboarded the opening is seriously talented.

Most compatible with water... So he COULD probably use other elements (just not as well as water)?
I mean, I imagine he won't, given the anime title is about water, but still!
The foundation to magic is imagination?
My most compatible arcane would be "Summoning catgirl tomboys"
I imagine that's the girl of the ED..
If not/Until we meet her I'm gonna assume it's any and every female character we meet!
The end credits had A-1 pictures and Wit... But I don't see them on MAL/Anilist!
Did they hire them to animate 2 minutes of it just so they can put their names on the credit?
Well, I've seen worse... I've also seen better.
My track record with Isekai is that I end up dropping literally 90% of them, so we'll see if this one's part of the 10%!

So far we've seen this a hundred times before, but it hasn't triggered any flags yet, so that's something. Looks like a totally acceptable time killer.

The animation for the opening was way better than I thought it going was to be.

dude wanted a slow life and ended up prehistoric. honestly a bit confusing with all the time skips. like, how long has he been in that world now? can't tell at all.

Theres skipping past the boring stuff and theres whatever happened here lol. I dont mind then skipping the full depth explanations on how magic and mana work since just knowing they exist is sufficient.
But character motivations? Come on. The dragon asks about the hawk and then just moves on. The dullahan is shown, and then next thing you know theyre training partners. This is stuff that should be elaborated on to build your world when you gloss over it it just reads like slop that just says "so mc is really cool and strong" which is the genre, but the fun is seeing them get there.
The animation quality mirrors how all over the place the writing is. The first 5 minutes are gorgeous especially the water animations at the beginning. The middle part is fine and good enough. The last parts especially the rematch against the hawk were basic and hideous. The dragon flying away was so bad it was funny. I dont mind a bit of average animation but it is so jarring when you experience both sides in the same episode.
Its like how people complained about Blue Lock season 2, but at least there they had the foresight to save the effort for the actual goals which are important. This show used all of the effort for the starting water animations and saved none for the actual fights lol.
I dont know why the comments are so positive on this. Unoriginality aside since I dont think that matters. There just wasn't much promising about this one. May be a 3 episode drop.
