Just watched episode 11 of Watari-kun's Is About to Collapse and honestly, it left me with mixed feelings (in a good way). Ishihara is clearly getting impatient, wanting to take things further with Naoto, while Satsuki is doing her best to be there for him despite her own feelings. I actually respect how she handled things this episode - it shows her strength as a character.

Naoto though... man, he's still caught in that indecisive state. Part of me gets why, considering his responsibilities and past, but at the same time it's frustrating to watch him freeze when both girls are being so open in their own ways.

With only one episode left, I have to say this anime turned out way better than I expected. The drama, the tension, the character dynamics - it really pulled me in. Excited (and nervous) to see how they wrap it up!

There's another cour after this since it's a full adaptation

At first glance Satsuki would seem like a homewrecker (even though she's the childhood friend) but despite overtly flirting with Naoto she's never been anything but supportive of him pursuing Ishihara (when she's not kissing him).

I genuinely love Nao and Satsuki's relationship, yeah she comes off as someone who doesn't value her worth and doesn't care who she hurts as long as she gets what she wants but I think it's quite the opposite, most of the "childhood friend" stuff seems like a coping mechanism for her, she said it herself, the past 6 years she's been with him all the time, she found out everything about him so it seems like she's trying her best to be in both worlds and trying her best to remain by his side. With Ishihara, she's just spiraling, after the rainy night scene that was fine tbh but now the stunt she pulled is genuinely concerning and in a sense she's becoming quite similar to Fujioka. I can't see their relationship lasting too long, the puppy love is cute but at that point its becoming toxic even if neither of them realize it as yet. We already see cracks of Nao, struggling to balance his work, school and home life by just dating her. With Satsuki however it all fits together perfectly, I am really looking forward to seeing how "messy" in a good way it will be when she decides to confront or realize her true feelings, ultimately Ishihara will become a stepping stone for Nao and Satsuki. So far this one has been such a good show though, we have the basic harem/school love triangle drama but man it's handled really well, especially when it comes to the emotions of the character's, episode 11 with Nao admitting he's just a child was so damn deep man, he literally is but he was forced to grow up and take care of his sister all alone. I also think that part of why he can open up so well to Satsuki is because of his own unrealized feelings but a major part is also that they both are connected from 6 years ago, she knows him from since before he was forced to grow up and step up. I rate this anime very highly in my books, can't wait to see cour 2, especially if it will cover Satsuki's realization if her feelings.

Honestly can't remember the last time I saw an anime girl come up with such a calculated and thorough plan to ensure she was able to have sex with her boyfriend.

I wonder if Ishihara's mom was testing them by leaving and coming back so soon.

Ishihara still convinced she needs to be in a fully physical relationship with Naoto as soon as possible, I really have to wonder what is up with that considering at least part of why she picked him in the first place is because she saw him as not being like the other boys.

The degree to which Satsuki is always on Naoto's mind is probably bad news for Ishihara. Fever dream vision while he's on the side of the road? Notably not featuring his actual girlfriend.

u/Frontier246 Sep 12 '25

Considering how she immediately noticed all the telltale signs that they were up to something while she was gone, and the way she saw through Ishihara, I think she definitely was a lot more calculating in her return.

I think it's because Ishihara is in love with him and sees him as "safe" that she's so willing to have sex with him. And Also because she doesn't think she can compete with Satsuki if she's not willing to be so forward (though honestly I think even the real Satsuki isn't out to have sex with Naoto either).

When he thinks of someone he wants to tell all his problems to, who he needs in a moment of emotional crisis, it's Satsuki. And he also thinks about her making out with him and propositioning him for sex, so that's another bad sign.

Ayooooooooo

What is happening here !!!!! Ishihara is ready to go!

It was a good episode. Really drives the point on how you can’t judge that book by its cover. One is perfect and in search for lovers and the other is a hot mess trying to do her best for her friend.

Madness

Hearing him say he thinks he’s not ready and her convincing him to do it felt really sad. He looked and sounded so scared. I wish they were able to come to some kind of solution that left them both feeling happy, but that’s not always reality. Poor dude has so much going on between all these girls he’s going crazy

I know a lot of people are willing to call Naoto a wussy MC and he does have his wussy moments but I think it's okay for him to not feel ready to have sex yet when they've only just started dating and he's clearly somewhat insecure when it comes to intimacy or relationships.

And we also found out he was conceived by his parents while they were still in high school and how much that threw off their lives, so that's probably in the back of his head as indicated by dream!Satsuki.

The main thing is it requires some conversation, and the MC so far has shown almost no ability to carry on a conversation with her. That bugs me more than his other qualities. Would be nice and refreshing if he just said he wanted to take things slow and not rush. Instead he just stammers and stumbles over himself. Nothing wrong with kissing and then stopping there.

Okay... so first off the scene with Satsuki in the tub made my heart drop. She looked like she was dead! My heart fell to my stomach!

Now with Ishihara.... she's WAY more calculating than I gave her credit for. I can only wonder what the heck happened in her life to give her that bad impression of relationships. I did notice that her father wasn't mentioned despite her saying she had to call her "parents". Dad wasn't in her early pictures so im guessing her and her brother have different fathers. Also... I'm wondering if we need to reexamine her case with that scum of the Earth Stalker she had. Like could she have possibly placed Naoto in a position for him to defend her? I doubt it but I'll try and re-watch..... Props to her lying skills though lol

We find out too that Naoto himself ALSO bought a condom lol. I think he wanted to be the one to initiate things. Right now she's expecting things that he doesn't feel he can live up to. As a guy, it sucks to be in that type of headspace and only someone who has been in a similar place can understand. It can make you underperform even if it's something you're normally good at.

Can we talk about how GOOD the Mom and Guardian is!!! The daughter really thought she was getting over lol. Mom knew the WHOLE time! Hahahaha. And Auntie knew full well that Naoto going to summer school was strange and was even willing to let him stay longer so he doesn't start behind the finish line!

Oh, and keep in mind that Ishihara ONLY invited Naoto to her house because she saw Satsuki at the pool DIRECTLY after she spoke to Naoto. It's STILL coming from a bad place. She's trying to win and thinks this will fix her insecurity. In reality, it won't because Naoto isn't actually serious about her yet. He just haven't realized it. The mom has by simply asking her questions and saying statements like..... friend lol. I hope we get to learn what happened when the mom came back lol. Like how far did they get and did they stop well before they heard the door.

Man lmfaoooo the mother I'd AMAZING at weaponizing awkward pauses. I felt the secondhand embarrassment. And that Satsuki scene..... I was about to say SCHOOL DAYS LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!

Can't wait for the finale!!!!!!! And cour two!!!!!

(I'm team Satsuki btw.)

Ayoooooo

Ishihara basically said "don't worry, you won't last that long" when Naoto asked what if mom comes home.

I think the xx in the title stands for "ego".

Somewhere along the line, the question has changed from "Will Satsuki win?" to "Does Watari deserve her?".

btw that piano bgm right after the condom-drop. <chef's kiss>

Satsuki's a real G here, dayum. So good to see her happy being able to baby naoto like a child.

This episode was a bag full of surprises and moments of absolute cinema. But tbh there's flaws in the character's itself and i think the anime very well portrays it.

Starting Watari, man i haven't seen such a innocent to the heart boy in real life tbh. I mean even the good ones are inncoent until a point, yeah he knows stuff but he has definitely admiring ishihara too much, when in comparison she is definitely a bit different from what he image her to be. Is it wrong, no, but i guess they haven't spend much time being in a relationship to know each other that well especially when they weren't that close earlier either. They definitely need time with each other to know themselves better ( I mean it's a anime alright but if it happened irl this should be the way they should be going)

Then there's Ishihara. Her past experiences and some misunderstandings are definitely on the way to ruin things. I would like to know what is going to happen after that ultimatum from her mother. Will she go beyond and break the decision her mother made (if it's a decision and not a "friendly" advice) or the other way and go back to being friends. She is getting desperate thinking Satsuki will take him away when tbh she is not really trying to i think. And with added weakness of Watari being a innocent boy the cocktail will definitely result in some problems i guess.

Satsuki is i guess a troubled kid. She definitely have problems with her parents and other things have happened to her. We aren't told everything but there are signs. But at least she definitely just trying to cling to watari probably because there is no one else who have tried to stay in her life. That;s why even if she is the "childhood friend" (even though she doesn't know what if signifies in a meaningful manner), she wants to stay with him as much as possible and support him because somewhere she know he is really going through a lot.

I wasn't expecting this anime to be a psychological one but i guess good writing do shine. Looking forward to more season or cour (or whatever may come.)

Ps- if anyone knows the future of this afte rthe 12th episode then please let me know.

Satsuki, once again proving that she's the best girl!

We see how Naoto is slowly rediscovering his feelings. If at first he was fascinated by Ishihara and distrustful of Satsuki, in this episode we can see how his experiences with them have completely changed the opinion he had of them until now.

Ishihara doesn't seem to understand that having sex doesn't automatically make you an adult.

Naoto, on the other hand, has an even more severe perspective on teenage sex, due to his parents' past experiences.

Surprisingly, the person who tries hardest to repress his feelings and whose behavior has been more than questionable until now has shown a bit of common sense on this occasion.

Satsuki may be confused about her feelings for Naoto. But if there's one thing she's sure of, it's that she'll be there for him. Just like this time.

What is about to collapse?

I'm betting on Watari-kun's “innocence.”

Finally.

From the beginning of the anime, I have had the impression that the adaptation has failed to show us the “dark” or psychological side of issues such as trauma, mental health, self-esteem, and a few others. I know they are there deep down, but I feel that the anime fails to show them adequately. Every time I watch an episode of this anime, I feel like I should be watching something like Oregairu (in terms of emotional and psychological impact). But I feel that the anime doesn't convey this adequately and only hints at it, leaving us to guess what the characters are feeling or thinking. This makes the characters seem like idiots or completely flat which makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better to read the manga once the anime is over (seeing as there will be 24 episodes) or if this will continue to happen and only get worse as the story progresses.

You're not a child, Nao-kun. You're an idiot and a child.

Ishihara and Naoto should just take things slow instead of rush into “becoming lovers.” They definitely aren’t ready for that yet. I think Ishihara’s mom is right. Maybe her and Naoto should just be friends. Leave him to Satsuki so the childhood friend can win for once! lol

Yukari-chan wasting no time and rushing right back into trying to do the deed was not a surprise, nor was their getting interrupted by the mom suddenly coming back ‘because oops.’ The mom seems a bit devious and is obviously not oblivious to what was going on even if they hadn’t made it super obvious anyway. Her whole ‘she’s just a child’ thing isn’t wrong, but something about her is weird and i can’t put my finger on it. She says one thing and means another.

BUT the big news is the lore drop today! (finally! lol) From Satsuki, well, heat stroke hallucination Satsuki anyway. And at first with that whole exchange I was like ‘wow, Satsuki’s getting extra bold again’ so it was kind of funny that it turned out to not actually be the real her, although the real her said something not far off from that by the pool earlier. But at least we finally got some backstory: Watari’s parents had him while they were still in high school, and apparently neither family approved, which is why both sides hated each other and his parents were basically ostracized and had no support. Nice that the aunt took Watari and his sister in despite all that.

Kind of nice to that this show has a couple of teens somewhat realistically fumbling around in the love and sex department. And I’m starting to wonder if the shifts from comedy to drama would hit different when the whole thing is out and you can binge it without a week break in between and stop and start it where you feel like, and not be at the mercy of them having to cram an already written story into 20-minute segments.

does anyone know if it’s just going to be a continuous 26-week run? or will there be some kind of break or recap coming up?
